10 Great Asian-Owned Vegan-Friendly Restaurants In NYC

"Luanne’s Wild Ginger, owned by Xiang Ting Fang, has four locations spread across Little Italy and parts of Brooklyn. They serve a variety of vegan and kosher dishes, like spring rolls, nori wraps, and my absolute favorite, the black pepper seitan sizzler. It’s not only a creative and delicious way to use seitan, but it’s also quite the showstopper when the server brings it out of the kitchen - hot and sizzling off the skillet with smoke wafting through the air. The flavorful seitan is coated in a black pepper garlic sauce, and every bite feels like you’re chewing on pieces of steak. This specific dish was the entryway for me to enjoy this meat-like texture while feeling good about the nutritious factors - seitan has the same amount of protein as meat, and is a good source of iron and calcium." - esther cho, with warm welcome

Google
THE best mock meat texture i have ever had. Food was delicious and prepared quick. love the ambiance, felt very old school and cozy inside.

Google
Upscale ambiance and beautiful design, meticulous attention to food, affordable vegan prices (~$15 for mains which are generous portion! What a steal!!). Great for a date, and the spacious patio is welcoming for groups or families. Honestly It doesn't get better than this! Macrobiotic absolute yum of a vegan bi bim bop bowl. Can't wait to come back.

Google
Loved the fried mushrooms, these were my favorites from the lunch! Also got the Malaysian curry and black pepper seitan — both of these were ok. I think I would have liked them more if the seitan and vegetables were cut into smaller pieces so the flavors could soak in.

Google
This is one of my favorite restaurants ever. Food is great with so many options, service is always amazing, the owner is super kind and I love the vibes. A variety of options for different tastes as well. I love the back patio, it's so nice! If you are in New York, I 100% recommend this place. Couldn't be better.

Google
Awesome place with a variety of great vegan dishes. I highly recommend to try the Crispy Stuffed Tofu Skin. They are so delicious and a great appetizer. I took as a main course Tempeh & Seaweed Quinoa Bowl. It had a great flavor and is the right amount to fill your tummy. The service was friendly and fast.

Diana S.

Google
Had dinner with a friend and we got miso ramen and they had Bibimbap. Both dishes were very tasty and the service really good. The passion fruit tea and lemonade are delicious! I have been to other locations as well, always in point.

Google
Love this vegan spot. Had a really tasty tempeh bowl for lunch. Seitan was cooked nicely and all tasted healthy and yummy! Pleasant staff and lots of great choices on the menu. Enjoyed a rose tea too!

Google
I had a really good Vegan Lunch at this place. Their Outdoor dining is beautiful and quiet. I ate the Sweet and Sour Sesame Soy with breaded soy protein, Cauliflower, Broccoli, PineApple, and Bell Peppers. Along with an Eggroll, white rice, and mixed salad greens. I also drank Thai Iced Coffee. Highly recommend to stop for a great Lunch and Dinner.

Yelp
Oh this is yummyyyyyyy. It's a vegan spot that my niece casually mentioned. We went towards the end of the night and dined in, and I was impressed! They're described as Asian vegan, and I was excited to see so many Asian countries featured on the menu. Everything from China, Thailand, and Vietnam to Japan, India, and Korea were on that menu. The staff were super nice, and they were patient with us as we tried to decide what to get. They had so many lovely pumpkin soup and noodle options... my sister asked her what some popular favorites where, and she mentioned this black bean cutlet skillet... and I was sold. I got this eggplant appetizer as well. While waiting for the food, I got a rum mango drink that was out of this world. The eggplant appetizer came first and it was fantastic -- though I know my sister wouldn't have liked it because of the texture. And then the skillet came, sizzling oh so nicely. It was delicious! I could've had more of that black bean sauce though. The place was pretty empty on a Saturday night, and I feel like they deserved so much more business for how good they were!

Yelp
What a perfect and beautiful quaint space. I found it on my Yelp search for soup. A brisk 10 minute walk to Dekalb brought me a warm cup of pumpkin soup on a very cold day. Not only that; the service was extremely pleasant, the ambiance was literal perfection and they serve rum & chai toddies. (I didn't get one) but like I said the soup was spot on. White bean, pumpkin, and squash, it tasted rich, almost Spanish. Metal chop sticks, home style china and the red leather seats are three things I wouldn't have thought to pair, but I'm glad someone did. 5/5 I highly recommend.

Yelp
They're so friendly at this location and the tofu skin wrap is to die for. Get extra napkins.

Yelp
This is the best hidden gem in neighbourhood. I've eaten here for years and it has only gotten better. Best music, best service, best food.

Yelp
This was a really nice place . It's like a little tucked away nook almost . I would have liked the blinds to be more open but it was still a lot of natural sunlight . The server was sweet and it was empty , so my food came out in perfect time . I tried the samosas and they were sooooo good and crunchy . I also got the orange fried seitan I think it's called ? I thought it was a bit too sweet for me personally . I would have liked a balance of savory and sweet I felt it was just very sweet but my mom liked it lol altogether it was a really nice meal and cost efficient. I would def be back for sure

Yelp
Wow!!! This place is incredible- I stumbled upon it accidentally. I was so hungry and decided to check it out. I ordered the dumplings, pad Thai, and pineapple fried rice. I was so pleasantly surprised. I loved the atmosphere as well. The gentleman "shig" that took my order was so kind and provided great service. I definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Nice patio! Good service! Healthy food! I'd come back. Easy to get a table and peaceful environment

Yelp
The food was amazing , service was excellent, and the ambiance was welcoming and intimate.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here. I came on a weekday for lunch, and the place was pretty much empty so the service was very fast. I loved that it was a vegan friendly spot that didn't feel like it was trying to impersonate non vegan food - it let naturally vegan ingredients and flavors shine, and all the food felt fresh and healthy but tasty and interesting at the same time. A lot of healthy vegan spots serve you really basic salads and grain bowls that you could easily make at home, but Luanne's served delicious and creative meals with tasty sauces. and was not unreasonable in terms of price either. It's a fairly casual location, but nice enough to meet up with a friend or date here for a meal. I would come again.

Yelp
Quite the culinary experience! Dishes were iriginal and delectable. Quantities were very reasonable and ingredients were very fresh. The atmosphere in the back yard is pleasant and relaxed. I tried the Mango Avocado Summer Rolls, Kale Mandarin salad with walnuts, burgul, cranberries, and the Kale Avocado Shiitake Bowl. I ended up with one of the vegan deserts, Raw Banana Custard Tart. Each of the dishes was delicious. The waitress rocked it and was very helpful with the suggestions and descriptions.

Yelp
Fabulous dinner. Ordered 4 different dishes. The curry was absolutely fantastic, beautiful blend of flavors, the green tea noodles were perhaps my favorite. Similar to Cold sesame noodles but with an extra flare. Other dishes were the fried oyster mushrooms, they initially look like fried large potato slices, but were chewy like mushrooms, with an orange sweet sauce. We also got a bowl with avocado, shiitake, beans, greens, over a really nutty flavor type rice, very pretty, healthy, and good. Comfortable, casual atmosphere, friendly waitress that was helpful in describing the dishes. Will definitely return next time I'm in NY.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Tried the eggplant and string bean lunch special plus the ginger miso ramen. Everything was delicious. The ramen bowl is a generous portion! I loved the taste of the broth, and my non-vegan fiance enjoyed the red curry ramen too.
google avatar

Yelp
So good! 5 stars across the board for food, service and ambiance. Only thing I can't speak to are the drinks, but the menu did look good. The crispy stuffed tofu skin wraps in particular were excellent as a shareable starter... more or less like spring rolls. A friend who has gone several times tries something different each visit and has yet to be disappointed.

Yelp
4.5 stars - really solid vegan Asian fusion!! Made a res for Friday night at 7 for a table of six. The inside is very cute, with a warm, cozy, atmosphere. We were seated in the back and even though some members of our party were late we weren't rushed to order. My friend and I split the miso eggplant, crispy tofu skin, and general Tsoys protein. All three dishes were very good. I loved that the eggplant was warm and juicy and soft. The crispy tofu skin was filled was stuff and the soft inside contrasted nicely with the very crispy fried exterior. The general tsoys protein Pattie's were great and I liked the flavor, reminding me of classic general tso's. The broccoli however was quite flavorless and bland, I wished they had stir fried it instead. Overall enjoyed the experience and would come back. Great flavor for vegan food!

Yelp
LuAnne's Wild Ginger is a solid spot for Brooklyn vegan dining. I was hesitant about their pan-Asian menu but the first visit quickly dispelled that, so much so that I went a second time on the same trip. This was a time before I lived in Brooklyn and now that I do I've gone back to LuAnne's several times. The seared miso eggplant topped with hijiki mushrooms is a fav. This is the only place I've seen this served and it's a must dish. Would also recommend the black pepper seitan served on a bed of bok choy, a staple on Chinese menus. This vegan version is tasty. Luanne's has several locations in Brooklyn and in the city. This loc is probably my favorite because the other Leeuwen, Van Leeuwen to be exact, is just a couple blocks down the street for vegan ice cream.

Alexandra N.

Yelp
I have been to Luanne's wild ginger in Franklin Ave in Brooklyn and Broome st. This is my first time coming to this location in Clinton hill and I had a bad experience unfortunately. I always order the general tsos protein and this is the first time it is drenched in sauce that I couldn't eat my veggies and had to ask for a small plate on the side. The server was on the phone for the majority time I was there which made him unaware when I needed a fork or a drink. I mentioned the sauce was a bit much and still didn't acknowledge it. I love the other locations never was an issue. If you're getting this dish make sure you mention not too much sauce it was super sweet.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
First time, everything was delicious. Went to the fort Lee location and had the red curry ramen, kimchi kabocha squash gumbo, samosas, and mushroom spring rolls. Friends had the pho and the black bean sizzling veg plate. Everyone was super stoked. Everything had solid depth and satisfied all members at the table. The broth for the pho was the biggest pleasant surprise, but everything we tried I would recommend! Friends had mentioned they've been to other Luanne's locations in Nyc but they are all different with different menu items + a few staples. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Why didn't I come here earlier? I've been asking myself everyday since my first visit last week! The extensive vegan menu is absolutely mind blowing. I want to try every item on it. The relaxed and stylish interior vibes are also wonderful. I had a rice bowl and eggplant appetizer and both were amazing. The rice in the bowl was cooked just perfectly and the skewer was really flavorful with a nice texture. From a sustainability perspective, they used all reusable utensils for dine in. Can't wait to go back and try more items!
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place when we went for our first time last week. I just moved to Fort Greene and my mom is vegan so I needed to find a good local spot with options for her. We didn't have to look far before settling on this as our regular spot. We must have gotten half the appetizer menu and then each got an entree. Everything was incredibly good and leftovers were quickly eaten the next day. Loved the outdoor area out back too which provided shade, quiet and some nice music.

Yelp
There's nothing I love more in New York City than a cozy chic "hÿgge"-like experience in a small eatery. As perky as the bartender is, I don't recommend date night here 100 times over. See you soon Luanne!

Fran T.

Yelp
The food here is terrific. The service was excellent. The only reason I'm going from five to four stars is because the music was really loud and not conducive to conversation. We asked it to be turned down and then maybe a different kind but really the music should have been turned off.

Yelp
Always a good time for vegans and those trying to cut down on meat products. Still can't quite figure out the protein dishes, wish they had photos in the menu! That said, everything was awesome. The soba/kale dish came cold, so that was a surprise. The lychee mojitos were very sweet and didn't seem to have enough alcohol. Also, wish they had more dessert options, they only had one available!

Yelp
First of all let me start off by saying that I was one of the first people totally judging crazy New Yorkers for eating outside in the snow! Well put me on the official crazy New Yorker list, because I had THE best vegetarian food last night! AND it was spiced up with some Asian fusion that kept the heat rolling. Now the thing about Sagittarius such as myself we are just spontaneous people. So when you put two of us together who knows what can happen. We really had no intentions of staying at Wild Ginger and then dinning out. We simply just just wanted to order some food and go. Until we realized we ordered a lot of food that needed to be sampled while hot. The hostess was so friendly and accommodating. I apologize I forgot his name but I love him for making it a great evening and an awesome warm experience. Ok ok let's get to the food. We ordered; steamed Soy Dumplings, Fried Wontons, scallion pancakes my favorite , miso Mushroom Soup, Genteral Tso's Chicken (Tufu), Kimchi Undon Noodles which was the right spicy yet flavorful, Quinoa salad which had kale and pieces of pumpkin simply delicious. I had the Nori Wrap which had avocado and brown rice in it was also great! All the dishes came with dipping sauces to enhance the flavors but Im telling you the food is great without it. Of course a pot Green tea was needed to keep us warm along the way. So technically we vegged out . Everything was delicious, flavorful who knew vegetables could taste so fabulous. My palate was well pleased. I was Warm and Cozy. I had great food and service! Can't wait to go back! I love NY. We have the best food!

Rob B.

Yelp
Never coming back. Saturday night. Out of town friends over for a send off dinner. Food was good. The bartender has been gone over a half hour. The overworked waitress, dealing with several tables, hasn't stopped by to check on us, since serving dinner. I'll accept having a cigarette break but damn! I think she said he went to the laundry...
google avatar

Yelp
Superb service and food. Cozy ambience. Nice welcome back to New York. Would definitely go again when the pandemic is over.

Yelp
Delicious and healthy! Fabulous faux meat, home made gingerale and delicious veggies!

Yelp
I've been to the Smith street location and the Franklin location. And now this one (well delivery). Everything is consistent between the different locations and always delicious. My go to is the sweet and sour chicken (soy protein). It comes with veges, rice and miso soup. Everything has great flavor and is so fresh. I love the sweet and sour sauce. Its big enough to split with two so that's what we did! Plus we ordered the miso eggplant app. Which was really good too, it had some small yummy mushrooms on the top and the sauce was salty and savory. A good match for the sweet and sour dish we ordered. And the miso soup is the best miso soup I've had. Its so warm and comforting and they put a decent amount of seaweed in it. We ordered off the website which charges around a 2.50 delivery fee only and plus tip of course. All in all it was 30 dollars for enough food for two people and it was delivered! It came right on time too! Order here!

Yelp
So fresh, so delicious!!!!!! It's vegan friendly, gluten friendly place with a very homey and chic atmosphere. They have a happy hour special where a small plate and an alcoholic beverage for $10. Started off with the spring rolls. They're filled with fresh mango and avocado, and we're naturally sweet and tasty. Entree of spicy soba kale noodles had so much flavor. It had gochujang sauce over the tofu which created a fun korean fusion. Kale was soft, soba sauce was well seasoned. My belly was left full, happy, and not bloated thanks to everything being so fresh!!!

Yelp
I saw an old review of what I thought of this place and I def changed my mind. Having been there a few times now I can say I actually enjoy it. If you can, ambiance wise, try to sit in the garden. It's lovely out there. It's all about the red curry soup thing, that was really major. The medallion salad is good too. Vibe check is at peak when the waitress with the dark hair is there, she's maybe my fave part of the experience. She ups the cool factor for sure.

Ellyor A.

Yelp
I am not vegan and I love meat or steak with crust. But this place on of my favorite restaurants.

Yelp
The food is amazing and makes me feel so good. Staff is cute and fun. A gem in Fort greene.

Yelp
We thought we over ordered but had no problem finishing everything! The food was so delicious and Dori, the expert server, did a great job taking care of all of the tables. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
This was a very fun place, with great food. Excellent for sharing, and with a nice drink menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food; wicked fast delivery. Definitely became a neighborhood favorite spot.

Yelp
Great vegan options and the service is good! Ate here last month with a large group and everything was yummy and prompt.
google avatar

Mandy K.

Yelp
Clean, tasty, and healthy food made with quality ingredients! It was hard to decide what to have as the menu offers a variety of options ranging from bowls, small plates to noodles; even drinks also include a range of homemade sugar free options. The desserts are great too. I enjoyed the steamed macro bowl that had red rice.
google avatar

Naomi T.

Yelp
I ordered the King Oyster as per recommendation of the hostess it wasn't bad, but without the sauce it really doesn't have a taste. It's texture rivals that of calamari except less chewy. The next item I ordered was the Sweet Citrus Soy which was a big let down as it wasn't as it was described; Overall it taste watered down. It didn't taste sweet or citrusy at all. There were no orange pieces in it and instead of cashews it was served with almonds. Things like this really bother me as people have allergies such as my mom who is allergic to almonds but not all nuts. I think any alteration like that should be told to patrons as it can result in something serious.
google avatar

Crystal D.

Yelp
My partner and I eat Luanne's at least once a week. Everything on the menu is so flavorful and fresh, meat eaters and vegans alike will love it. And the staff is always so friendly and warm. Overall amazing spot!! If you're like me and love Asian food - you might be shocked to learn the struggles these communities are currently facing. We've seen almost 3000 Asian hate incidents this past year and the number keeps rising. From physical assaults, to verbal harassment to civil rights violations across 47 states in America. We need to speak up, show our support and raise more awareness. It's time for us to remember the impact these communities have made in our lives. All we need to do, is love the Asian community the way we love their food. #ReviewsOfLove #StopAsianHate

Yelp
Luanne's was amazing. Super fast service and great tasting quality food. General Tsoy's is the way to go! Definitely trying the Pho next time.

Yelp
Amazing food great service nice place I am vegan and eat here often Nice local establishment awesome people

Yelp
I started frequenting the original Wild Ginger on Bedford in Williamsburg when I first moved to New York many years ago. While that restaurant is now closed, it's exciting to see that there are new locations. Luanne's improves on the flagship Wild Ginger with a cute back patio, very kind service and excellent cocktails. The citrus seitan is just as tasty as ever!
google avatar

Brigit B.

Yelp
Is it me? Are my tastebuds injured?! This place came highly recommended by a few friends local to Brooklyn and the reviews I read backed their recommendations! Unfortunately the few items my gf and I shared were significantly underwhelming. Starting with the seared miso eggplant and the bbq seitan skewers. I couldn't stop thinking of Vienna sausage when I was eating the skewers. The consistency of the seitan reminded me of a gross NASCAR party my family attended in junior high. Try they sausage they said, you'll love it they said. Those things were almost as bad as the race that followed. Anyway, while the flavor wasn't bad it was too chewy and too rolly. Is rolly is even a thing? Lol. As for the eggplant, it wasn't bad but almost flavorless. I've had eggplant that has been seared deliciously in a soy glaze so i was excited for this dish! Unfortunately, it didn't impress. Although I have to to mention that the plating was beautiful. Next up we had the the summer rolls, miso soup and a seaweed salad. The rolls were with jicama mint, vermicelli noodles, mint, basil and carrot. I noticed that they neglected to have the vermicelli and basil so these things were, you guessed it...flavorless. The miso soup looked beautiful and was a generous portion but it tasted watered down. The seaweed salad was a very small portion, but was okay. So that was that. We left disappointed. Hold up, i forgot about the delicious mint tea! And guess what? It was actually flavorful. I guess you win some, you lose some, right?

Brennan M.

Yelp
oh. my. god. someone blow the confetti. this restaurant is amazing. in all my years of fine dining and boujee eating, my tongue has never grazed such exquisite food. first let me start with the service: the waitress dory delivered some of the best customer service and hospitality i've ever received. she was supper kind and was very funny. she also made me feel right at home. now to the food. have had some great ramen in my time at many different places but jeez does this hit different. the second the broth of the creamy ramen hit my mouth i felt like Anton Ego after eating ratatouille. to keep short, 5/5 doesn't do this place justice. if i could give a 6/5 or a 10/5 i would. definitely recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Luz H.

Yelp
The food was delicious from appetizers to entrees. I came to this location on a Saturday with two of my best friends and loved the food. When we tried to order drinks we were told they didn't serve soft drinks on weekends, we weren't too thrilled about this since we didn't really want to drink any alcoholic beverages. When we got ready to pay, we checked our bill and noticed we were charged for two spring roll orders when we had only ordered one. It wasn't busy at all so we're not sure how this mistake was made. When we brought it to their attention they were very receptive and corrected our bill. Other than those two mishaps I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for tasty vegan food.
google avatar

Nicole T.

Yelp
Came in here with my partner for lunch over Labor Day weekend, and truly I hope the holiday was the reason it was so quiet! We had a great experience -- the food was fresh and made quickly, our server was incredibly kind and helpful, and we really enjoyed sitting in the back garden. Can't wait to visit again!
google avatar

Shauntay B.

Yelp
I am not huge on vegan food but so far I've eaten here 3 times and I loved each time. My favorite dish is the garlic eggplant I literally stuff my face with it, it's super delicious. I also tried the Pho and it was super tasty, not usually a fan of tofu but I enjoyed my dish a lot. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the Clinton Hill area.
google avatar

Yoko N.

Yelp
I am not a vegetarian, but after too much meat and cheese, I tried this restaurant on a warm May afternoon. There are street tables in boxes, backyard tables and inside the building tables. We sit inside by the window, very airy and cool. The waitress is kind, taking time, polite and professional. My beer something like Monkey is not my type, bit yeasty. My kimuchi pumpkin gumbo is too sweet ( big chunks of pumpkin) for me, but tastes so healthy. Hijiki with edamame dish is good. Of corse hijiki( black tiny seaweed) is usually cooked with soy sauce and sugar in Japan, here it is more like salad. My companion's broccoli shiitake salad looks very fresh and serene. Overall they are less salt and very natural. Not really my kind of food, but once in a while they are refreshing. The interior is also peaceful and gives you calm effects.
google avatar

Liz F.

Yelp
This is an all vegan restaurant and as a vegetarian that's great because it means I can order anything on the menu. The dinner prices are a little high, I think general tsos soy for delivery is something like $18, however it's much cheaper during lunch and you get sides to go with your meal. I will say that the rice is not good and the side salad is also not so good; that and the high prices is why I give them four instead of five stars. The rice is super dry and flavorless to a point where I just didn't eat it. The general tsos soy is great! It's made with cut up soy patties instead of chunks of tofu so it's more filling. The sauce is really good but it's not very spicy at all. The black pepper soy wasn't really my taste, but I know others who really like it. The chocolate peanut butter cake is pretty darn good and the portions are very generous. The cake is a little dry, but not as much as you expect with vegan baked goods and the peanut butter mousse makes up for that.

Yelp
Amazing food and staff every time. I've always appreciated how friendly and personal the staff at Luanne's has been. I truly enjoyed being able to go there often before the pandemic and missed it when they closed. Now that Luanne's is open again, they're always my number one when I consider ordering in. Thank you!!
