With family in town for the holiday, we decided to do a fun pizza tasting of six different pizzas and rate each one based on appearance, crust, sauce, and cheese to see which was the favorite. I was excited to order from Lucatellis because I had heard great things, and everything looked delicious. I ordered the Rip and Dip as an appetizer, a plain pie, and the honey hot pepperoni. When I ordered online, it said the food would be ready in 40 minutes, but it was ready in just 15. I was able to run in and out, which was convenient. The recently renovated restaurant looked beautiful, and they were quite busy.
When I selected the pizzas for our tasting (the two from Lucatellis, a local tomato pie, one from a chain, one from a convenience store, and one frozen), I thought for sure their pizza would be ranked as the best. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I regret not taking a photo until after we had cut the pizza, but you can still see it was overcooked. The center of the crust was mushy, and the cheese was rubbery and didn't melt well. Even my teenage nephews only took a few bites to complete their rankings and had no interest in eating the rest. Surprisingly, the frozen pizza won by a landslide.
It's possible this was a one-off, but I'm unlikely to return.
