On the Grid : El Luchador

"Kick Chipotle to the curb, y'all. El Luchador is el rey when it comes to Seaport mexican food. They'll kickstart your inner Mariachi band with their signature pork, beef and grilled chicken tacos. And their guacamole? It'll hit you upside the head faster than your abuela with a flip-flop. If you can't make a run for the border, get down to El Luchador on your lunch break instead." - Wasabi Rabbit

Luchadores Review - Financial District - New York - The Infatuation

"Whether you don’t want to miss the coming attractions before your movie at iPic, or you need a quick bite before sightseeing on the Circle Line, Luchadores is the best counter-service option in the Seaport. This Mexican spot serves five meat options for your burritos and tacos, like carne asada that we prefer in burrito form, or panko-crusted fish that makes for the best taco, as well as chips with some very good, chunky guacamole. There are a few picnic tables in the courtyard out front, but the best thing to do here is get your food to go, and eat it on Pier 17 across the street." - Matt Tervooren

Google
stumbled upon this place while my friend and I were at the seaport. we wanted something authentic but not expensive. at first glance, don't let the appearance fool you. We were immediately greeted and served. We tried a variety of things made amazingly by Kent and the team. the food was spectacular. I highly recommend u coming to this place. Definitely try all the tacos, corn pop(elote), and the guacamole and chips amazing!

Google
Flavortown!! I walked in without much expectations and was pleasantly surprised. The tacos were warm and tasty, the tortillas held up well and were not overwhelming. I suggest the carnitas and diablo sauce.

Google
Great tacos amazing location right next to South Street Seaport. The fish and the beef is great! The elote is slapping too! There’s a lot of shopping nearby as well. They even have heated seating that’s indoors!! Update, Cinco De Mayo!! Got my self a Cajun Shrimp Bowl 🥣 so good!!

Google
For a carryout Mexican spot, I was quite surprised and impressed by Luchadores! Well, I would’ve loved to see more vegetarian, protein options, the Veggie Quesadilla was actually incredible - I tend to not go for quesadillas because they are often pretty bland, but there was a ton of flavor here from the mushrooms and onions. I also really loved the nachos, which are vegetarian and come fully loaded. The prices are also very reasonable and service is quick. The only reason for one star off is because while service is quick, it was NOT very friendly on the day I was there. Although I was very polite and upbeat, the cashier didn’t seem to want anything to do with the customers. Oh well.

Google
A fabulous, reasonably priced Mexican restaurant right by the Seaport in FiDi. This hole in the wall place has delicious burritos with large portions of nicely seasoned proteins and superior cooked rice & beans. The vegetarian burrito, which has large pieces of mushroom, is the best I have had. The shrimp burrito is also recommended. The chips & guac are also great. There's a large covered seating area. Highly recommend for Mexican in FiDi.

Google
Wow! The service was incredible! We had steak taco salas, chicken and carnitas tacos everything was cooked Perfectly 🙃 they have been here for 10 years and now I know why 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Google
Good food, service, and prices. Enjoyed the carnitas. Thank you. They make giant 🌯 burritos, taco bowls etc. nice little dining zone. The employees are really kind and generous, they gave us free guacamole. Caronas are available. Go great with their awesome food. This place was really poppin at lunch time in the summer. Gracias!

Google
We first discovered LuchaDores in 2022 during our first visit to NYC. Their chicken tacos - with popcorn & cilantro, lots of “red” sauce and a few drops of green sauce - are my favorite. Their guacamole is very good, too. Everything is fresh and assembled right in front of you. The building is small and there is no indoor seating, but they’ve erected a shelter in their patio where you may sit at one of 3 picnic tables.

Yelp
TLDR: Great food, generous portions, amazing flavors. Highly recommend Taking a trip down memory lane for when I came to this spot during my law school years. So happy to see that they are doing so well and that the quality of their products has not changed at all. There is 1 person putting your order together, 1 cashier and 1 cook. Wait time may be a bit longer during peak lunch/ dinner times but it is worth the wait. Came here around 12:30 on a Thursday and it was very busy but the line went by pretty quickly- probably a 20/25 minute wait? I got the carnitas bowl and it was very good. Not too salty but not too bland. It may be a bit off putting for visual eaters as the carnitas aren't as colorful as other spots but don't let it fool you. The bowl was perfect once mixed together.

Yelp
Luchadores is a small, no frills restaurant/cafe serving simple Mexican in the form of either a taco or burrito with choices of steak, fish, chicken and veggies. I particularly enjoy the panko fish in taco form (see picture). The Guacamole and chips were solid also. It's tasty, cheap, and they also have beer. Friendly staff make your stuff in front of you with whatever toppings & sauces you want. It's a great option if you're near Pier 17 and don't want to go to Tinhouse or elsewhere.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a couple years now but never got around to reviewing it. My go to for lunch when I want tacos. Perfect location near the seaport. You've got options here, tacos, burritos, bowls. Pick your protein (chicken, steak, shrimp, fish). I always go with the fish taco or the chicken taco with all the toppings. The like can be long sometimes but it's totally worth it. The owner puts love and attention into everything he makes. Outdoor seating (picnic like tables) are available but I always take my lunch closer to the water to enjoy it!

Yelp
Does the job. Nothing super flavorful or exciting about the place but the value and quantity are great. The carnitas burrito is packed with fresh stuff. I enjoyed eating it. It lacked sauces or spices but the last bites had all the flavorful juice. The chips and Guac was average Service is stoic, and unfriendly. Looked into the servers eyes to no greeting for 5 seconds, unsure if he was ready to take my order.

Yelp
SIMPLE & GOOD MEXICAN RESTAURANT that is ideal for pre-concert dining. The food is simple yet really good here. They have the basics of a solid Mexican restaurant while offering extras like fried fish and Cajun shrimp. We opted for a chicken and Cajun shrimp burrito with all the toppings except for the pico de gallo in an attempt to keep our concert outfits intact for the concert later. We shared this beastie burrito along with a beer. The proteins were well seasoned without being too heavy. I definitely recommend getting the shrimp because it was perfectly cooked and paired so well with the chipotle Mayo. We busted our quick meal down while half sit-standing on the stools by the counter in lieu of the wooden picnic tables under the covered area. This is another outfit -saving decision. We also came in at the perfect time because by time we were done eating, the place was packed with customers. If you're in the area and craving something good minus the fuss, try Luchadores.

Yelp
Your hole-in-the-wall taqueria at its finest... Pricing is good Location and vibe is happening Selection and taste is good and they got corn... Mexican street corn man... in a form of Corn Pop. What the hell more can a person ask for??? They even have seating albeit limited, but this is FiDi dammit so don't you complain. Besides, walk across and you've got entire riverside of South Street Seaport to sit and chow down at. Ok to food - we ordered 5 different tacos because that's the only way we'd try everything and not feel like manatees getting poisoned in Hudson River. Best: - Panko-breaded fish taco - Delectable flaky morsel. do I need to say more? - Cajun shrimp taco - Full of grilled shrimp bringing shrimpy sheriff to town! - Carne Asada - it's steak, what else you wanna know? Oh, it wasn't dry at all! - Carnitas - Umami porky flavor abound - Corn pop - Surprising amount of cotija cheese gave an initial armpit smell (Mine don't smell, but jus' sayin') followed by smoky chili flavor body-slammed by juicy corn goodness. You can never have enough corn. Unless you've got no teeth. (Wait, you still can using knife) So-so: - Pollo - Chicken was a bit... dry or lacking in character. douse it wth green sauce and it might be better. My wife and I just really enjoyed ourselves people watching while washing down our delicious tacos w/ jaritos and corona, and feeding a ballsy sparrow asking for a grub. A fun and authentic Mexican taqueria - don't miss it, and go with friends!

Yelp
Cute taco spot across from south street seaport! Highly recommend! Outside eating area even in the winter! Service is quick and friendly!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite/dinner after roaming through seaport recently. The menu is straight forward and easy enough to follow. The tacos were a bit pricier than I'd like for the quantity and toppings. I had the chicken tacos and the carnitas taco and the Mexican street corn. Chicken was juicy and tender and I wasn't a huge fan of the carnitas; they felt a bit dry. I would recommend making a deal as I would have liked 1 more taco to fill up but honestly it wasn't worth the added cost to me. However, if they had a deal for 3 tacos I would have bought that from the start. Thankfully we came on a cold weekend night and there were plenty of seating at the picnic tables inside the tent.

Yelp
Luchadores in NYC is a GEM everyone needs to experience. If you don't know, it is a wrestling-themed dining experience that packs a punch! The atmosphere at Luchadores is as alive as it gets in the city, being located right across the street from the buzzing Pier 17 boardwalk and rooftop. When it comes to the food, very little compares to Luchadores. Their menu features a variety of Mexican-inspired dishes, from tacos to quesadillas. The flavors are bold, and the portions are generous. My go-to is a pollo burrito with a side siracha mayo. The staff at Luchadores is super friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. They're always ready to recommend their favorite dishes or share the story behind the decor. I rate Luchadores as a solid 4.5/5! Whether you're a wrestling fan or just looking for a fun and delicious dining adventure, Luchadores is worth a visit.

Yelp
A excellent fresh food for a great price. Quick service. They even have a small selection of beer. I'll stop here again for sure.

Yelp
Such a short trip and not enough time for a full New York eating experience. But was able to at least try something unique. This place is tiny and resides tucked into a corner near the bay. Cuisine consists of burritos/tacos/bowls and 3 beers. There is no indoor seating, and has maybe 3-4 benches outdoors plus ledge/bar type seating. All 6 of us were crowding inside to order, and one in our group (who speaks fluent Spanish) overheard someone say in Spanish "why are they just standing there?". To you sir, we were cold. The burrito I ordered was gigantic and the chicken inside was amazing! For the price, it totally hit the spot. The toppings were fresh as well. It certainly was a decent spot, and a nice view of the harbor to boot. I would recommend this spot (reminds me of an upscale - as in taste - Chipotle or Moe's). Just don't crowd the inside area.
google avatar

Yelp
Taco or burrito... doesn't make a difference, all awesome. Oh, and some chicken tortilla soup.
google avatar

Yelp
A little hole in the wall Mexican food stand across from the ferries at South Street Seaport. The pollo asado tacos were so ridiculously good. Soft corn taco, messy chicken and guac and toppings. Oh lord! Veg tacos were good but paled in comparison to the chicken. Eating tacos while standing in the line is the best way to wait for the ferry to the Rockaways. Definitely stop here instead of buying any food on the ferry. The staff was great and there are places to sit out front, the only downside are the few choices of beverage. No Mexican cokes? No Jarritos? Why why why
google avatar

Yelp
Kent and friends sure know how to packed burritos! This awesome little spot also serves alcohol! The joint is decorated with cool cool Luchadores wrestling masks (hence the name). It's a great little spot across from South St Seaport w outdoor seating. We had tacos: Carnitas Pablo breaded Fish (so good!!) Beer!!! When you hang around long enough in NYC like me and my bros have, sooner or later you'll bump into old friends. Kent is an old buddy of my bros and he was happy to give us the perks at his dope shop. Y'all should come through, too!
google avatar

Yelp
Good and quick taco option in FiDi/Seaport. I think there are better tacos in the city, but the vibe here is very fun and it's a good spot to grab a quick snack.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
When I wanted something small and don't have to walk far I would stop by in this hole in the wall trailer park ambient space. The taco spot is located in what it looks like a tiny parking lot with a tiny trailer park store with kitchen. There are two-three people working taking orders, cooking and prepping food. All staff were wearing masks and gloves when preparing and serving food. There are benches and a standing area where you can eat your food. After ordering and paying for the meal the staff squirts hand sanitizer on your hands. Tacos are on the pricey side but flavorful. Nachos is cheaper given the portions provided. Good spot for a quick bite on the go.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
I was headed towards sushi when I walked past this hole in the wall. Don't let the look from the outside deceive you! Food is very very good and the price is extremely reasonable for this area. Highly recommend their tacos. Pass on the rice and beans a side of guacamole. I took mine to go and went over on pier 17 to eat it.
google avatar

King B.

Yelp
This place is great! Nice atmosphere as it's by the river nice theme to it, but something to consider if you want to come here is that it can be pretty busy. The food is amazing and satisfactions, but a bit weird how it's you must order one person at a time. Overall this place is chefs kiss.
google avatar

Leah S.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick and affordable restaurant to grab a bite to eat before a concert down at the pier and were lucky enough to stumble upon Luchadores. There was a bit of a line, however the food was worth our wait as everything was made to order and served steaming hot. They offer a decent amount of outdoor seating and we were able to grab a table without a problem. Our food was thoughtfully packaged to go and we could have easily brought it anywhere in the Seaport to enjoy. The guacamole and chips and corn pop were delicious appetizers. We absolutely loved our burrito and burrito bowl. We definitely recommend Luchadores to anyone passing through the Seaport area.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here after running past it several times. Cajun shrimp burrito was nice and filling and tasty. It also ate easy if that makes any sense - it was done in a moment despite looking like a hardy meal. The fish had a nice crispy outer which is what I prefer in a fish taco (you can keep the grilled ones away from me). The green sauce made me sweat - i like spicy but that's what it does to me. The luchador and the Sriracha Mayo were also good (I'm a condiment lover).

Douglas M.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall type place. Great lunch and very friendly staff. Recommend for a quick informal lunch stop.
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
Amazing mexican spot in FiDi. There's always a line but it moves quickly. The burritos are huge and only $11-15, some of the cheapest i've seen in NYC. No indoor seating, but they do have a covered patio with a few long tables. It's right by the water too. Food is delicious and there's usually plenty to take home. I got the Pollo Asado Burrito with diablo sauce, and my veggie friends got mushroom burritos (the veggie ones come with free guac). Really excellent!

Maribel S.

Yelp
I asked if they sold agua frescas and the cashier (blonde hair lady) looked at me as if I had three heads. Tienes cara de nopal pero con ojos azules. Get off your high horse . You're Mexican you knew what I was talking about not sure what was with the dumb confused face
google avatar

Jess K.

Yelp
It's gotten super popular over the years and I'm so happy to see that! Luchadores' fish tacos are delicious and other items on the menu are a sure hit as well, no matter what you order. The portions are big and it's not super expensive, considering the area and the target audience. Space wise there's not much if you're planning on having a big hangout, but perfect for a simple date after walking or before walking at South Street Seaport and Pier 17. The lights that they have strung up in the seating area and the neon signs make it pretty cute and maybe even oddly romantic, haha. (Makes for a great photo though, if that's your thing!)
google avatar

Kelsi Y.

Yelp
Great spot to grab quick meal and enjoy the after work happy hours!!! Fast turn around and right next to the pier/Hudson River. What could be better than this!!! I gotta try the Burritos next time. The Cajun shrimp, stark and fish tacos are so good!
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
Ordered shrimp and fish tacos. Both were really good and reasonably priced. Will definitely refer this place!
google avatar

Rogel H.

Yelp
Passed by this place so many times and noticed it's always packed. On a chilly Monday afternoon, my friend and I ventured to this place as it was not busy at all. To the point, it looked closed. I'm glad they weren't because we would not have enjoyed their food. The guy behind the counter is quite friendly. We asked for a taste of the chicken tortilla soup. It was very flavorful and the chicken was very tender. We got two orders of it! We also shared a healthy portion of nachos which was decadent. It was very good! Next time, we will try the tacos. Definitely we'll be coming back!
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Alright, let's start off with saying, I'm a PRO when it comes to finding Taco's - AUTHENTIC, (example: Leo's Taco Truck on La Brea and Pico Blvd in LA!!)....but Luchadores is definitely the best Taco spot in NYC! IT WAS FRESH!!!! This matters - my pico de gallo was FRESH!!! Many times I feel like I had tomatoes from yesterday - NOPE they were from TODAY! ...and the SAUCE....not sauce, the SAUCE was FRESH! Look at the pictures - look at the Jalapeño sauce, that wasn't even for me but you know that Jalapeño sauce looks fresh! You'll probably look at the pic and say "oh damn that Jalapeño sauce does look fresh! I promise you won't be disappointed! 43° and I had no problem during Covid eating Tacos outside! I don't even leave reviews on Yelp but I had to! Also during the time we ate, it wasn't empty - we even overheard a couple while they were leaving say "Ready to walk back to Brooklyn?".... ...yea exactly. So they knew - and now you know!
google avatar

Lingxiao C.

Yelp
Small but chill joint with nice outdoor seating. Maybe not the most authentic Mexican food, but the chicken burrito bowl is really good for what it is! It's like chipotle but 100x better, as each ingredient is fresher and more flavorful. Friendly and efficient staff too.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
There's no second chance at first impressions and I had an experience that ran counter to the high rating. It's dinner time on a summer weekend and you don't have guacamole...or tomatoes...or any sauces. Why continue to serve then? Or why not run to the grocery store to buy ingredients? For $4.95 for a single taco, I hoped for more than limp shredded iceberg lettuce atop some dry fish. The location is nice, but you're better off with a street water dog.
google avatar

Ms. V.

Yelp
My husband works nearby, and it used to be a go-to Date Night and/or lunch spot pre-Covid. We don't frequent it nearly as often anymore, but it still is one of my favorite casual places to grab a bite in the city. They have supporters in us for as long as they want to be around.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Small little taco spot with bold flavors! This gem is right across from the seaport! I ordered a chicken taco with all the toppings available, plus a drizzle of the spicy mayo sauce--tortillas were very fresh too! Will be back again to try their Cajun shrimp taco (they ran out of it when I was there).
google avatar

Gregg O.

Yelp
The food, the service, the portions, the happiness and aesthetics makes this place a gem! It's quality food, full servings, and really really good. I always pass this place and decided to stop in. The woman who allowed me to use Venmo, you're the best :). I will put all my co workers on to here and stop in again for my Carne Asada burrito!
google avatar

Miranda S.

Yelp
COULD NOT BE BETTER. kind employees, cute seating area, and FANTASTIC food. the chicken and shrimp are my favorites but all are amazing. go at least once a week. LOVE

Nora J.

Yelp
The nachos, chicken taco, and carnitas taco were all prepared fresh as we ordered and fantastic. My friend got the tortilla soup which was also said to be equally as good. Staff were very friendly and happy to help.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Live fast, eat a burrito.....at Luchadores! The menu is pretty easy to look at just like the servers there ;) Aside from that, these folks serve Diablo sauce so yea, that's a solid for my Cajun Shrimp burrito....give me your worst please and keep it burning for daddy . The outdoor eating area is pretty chill with some neon lights and views of the Atlantic. There will be a next time!
google avatar

Nathalia N.

Yelp
This place is small and only had outside seating. The staff were not friendly and seem impatient, as a first timer and not knowing what I want. The set up is similar to a smaller chipotle. The taco is a 3 bite size, single tortilla, they only double the pulled pork, the chips were fresh and crispy, the guacamole was fresh, each taco meat although the same selection was different - some dry and some moist, the tacos are loaded with meat. I was expecting better meats and friendlier staff

Brett C.

Yelp
Expertly made burritos (I had the chicken and beef), tasted awesome, and a nice little corner Mexican by the seaport
google avatar

Meli S.

Yelp
This place has the best burritos with homemade sauces. I am so glad they are open in the weekend and the staff is very friendly.

Terry F.

Yelp
While the food is good, the quality is something of concern for me. I wish the staff would contact me about this issue.
google avatar

Lucie T.

Yelp
Just happened to be passing this taco place and decided to give it a try. I had the grilled chicken nachos with red beans, pico de Gallo, cheese and spicy sauce. It was fresh, delicious and tasty. It very fulfilling and worth every penny. My friend had the chicken and corn. She said both we delectable.
google avatar

Yelp
The four picnic tables outside serve as Luchadores' only seating -- potentially an issue in the cold winter months, but a bubble dome & heating lamps create a warm, atmospheric eating area. Luchadores excels at what I consider to be an essential part to all my meals -- the condiments! Well-seasoned guac; delicious, smokey red salsa that is a dead ringer for my all-time fave (the Taco Shop at Underdog's for my SF peeps); & most unexpected because I don't usually like green salsa was their wonderful, salty green version. Elote was good, if not a little heavy on the mayo. We shared three tacos -- carne asada, pollo asado, & cajun shrimp -- & enjoyed each one immensely. I like to try new eateries, whereas he likes to return to proven winners. If he suggests coming back here, I won't object. At all.
google avatar

Anne S.

Yelp
I love the igloo! It is so cool that you can sit outside and eat in an igloo! For me, the igloo was the purpose of stopping here, and the main highlight. I thought the tacos were good, so was the guacamole. I didn't think the food was special. If you're in the neighborhood and want to sit in an igloo, you should definitely come here!

Isha D.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in seaport. It's the perfect stop for Mexican food - tacos, bowls and burritos. So flavorful and much better than the other Mexican fast food options around the neighborhood. Try it, you'll love it!
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
Pretty good spot for a quick taco. Not the best but definitely not the worst: *Guac and chips was good *They only accept cash *Quick friendly service *Outdoor seating only Overall not a bad experience
google avatar

Jerone S.

Yelp
Super small business with big taste. By super small I mean hole in the wall with 4 lunch tables outside for seats. But the burritos I saw that they served were stuffed! My wife and I ordered a burrito but decided to get it in a bowl. Great portions and one positive thing I will say about them....THEY DON'T SKIMP ON THE GUAC!!!!! They made sure they were generous with it. So that gets them extra points. Quick service. Fresh food. Five stars!
google avatar

Teresa V.

Yelp
Once I saw the igloo, I knew I had to stop by to give this place a go. Ordered the lunch special, which was any burrito bowl (carne asada) and soda (pineapple Jarritos) for $10.95. Overall, the food and atmosphere (igloo) were great but was not a fan of the service. The cashier was pretty grumpy when I asked her for my soda, which was part of the special stating I needed to tell her in advance. Thing is, I didn't get to her until my burrito bowl was built and already passed to her so there was no way for me to tell her any earlier. Additionally, a number of my friends ordered different quesadillas and the cook apparently got furious messing up the order that he told the staff to not allow anyone else to order quesadillas for the rest of the day. I'm a huge supporter of local joints, but am unsure of how I feel about my experience here. The igloo concept and food were great but might be better going to Chipotle or Dos Toros, which give bigger portions and better service.

Joseph H.

Yelp
Food is outstanding. Hot tip: the menu doesn't list quesadillas, but they will make one for you if you're willing to wait.

Will R.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much walking by but this place is an absolute gem. You are going to question it waiting in line but just wait till you eat the food it's incredible. The workers work so hard back there to prepare everything and didn't mess up a single thing in entire order. everything perfect. They also sell beer me and my friend bought 6 beers to chill on while waiting for concert to start across the street. Also the prices are cheaper than your average Chipotle prices and you get way more food here!!! He gave THREE scoops of steak in my burrito and folded it into perfection! a steak burrito was only $12!!!!!! These workers worked so hard they deserved a nice tip! You won't find these prices anywhere else in NYC I highly recommend for a quick bite while walking around the area!! LUCHADORES is great.
