Lucia Pizza Flushing Review - Flushing - New York - The Infatuation

"According to the prevailing definition, a classic New York slice should be thin but not too thin, foldable but not oversized, crispy without being crackery, and straightforward as an MTA conductor who’d appreciate if you'd stop holding the doors. Lucia achieves all of this in impeccably unpretentious style. A regular slice at this narrow Flushing spot—not to be confused with the newer Lucia Pizza of Avenue X—costs around $3 and arrives crisp as creme brûlée, wearing a layer of molten cheese that mingles with puddles of grease and sweet tomato sauce. Grab your oil-stained paper plate, then claim a stool in the cluttered parlor that doesn’t seem to have changed since it opened in 1962. Food Rundown photo credit: Bryan Kim Pepperoni Slice Lucia makes whole pies with a variety of standard toppings. But if it’s a slice you’re looking for, your options are plain or pepperoni, both of which achieve a perfect simplicity. Whichever you choose, prepare for a cascade of grease and loose hot strands of cheese." - Bryan Kim

On the Grid : Lucia Pizza

"Best plain slice in town? Lots of people will give us flack for such a bold statement. Lucia Pizza is a well-known pizza joint that everyone loves for their no frills Sicilian or plain slice pizza. According to a local, they even have the original cash register mounted on the walls. Lucia Pizza has been around as long as we have lived in Flushing—over 20 years. The guys here are super friendly and a plain slice has the perfect thin crust, just the right amount of tomato sauce (we don't like too much of it), cheese, and oil. Grab some napkins!" - QNS MADE

Best pizza in Flushing by far! 🍕 The pizza is fresh, hot, cheesy, and greasy, everything you’d hope for in a New York slice. Seating is very limited in this little hole in the wall, but service is quick and the food is quality. If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend!

Google
The best pizza! This is a true neighborhood gem! It has been here many years, it’s great to see some original businesses still around. Fresh, delicious and hot out the oven. Highly recommend for slice or a pie. Great, amazing flavor and all toppings available. Staff is also friendly and professional. 10/10 stars!

My favorite no thrills pizza spot in Flushing. Sometimes you just want a slice , nothing more. This place doesn't disappoint. Can get a quick slice in a few minutes. Not the best pizza in NYC but a decent slice considering you are in Chinese heavy Flushing. Slices run about $3 each. Pretty good pizza slice.

Not sure how I never reviewed Lucia before. As a kid, I’d have a slice every Saturday. My parents would also often get me a slice on their way home from work during my picky eating stage. It tied with Barone for my favorite pizza place growing up. I really love their pizza and could easily have it everyday. Lucia serves the perfect NY-style thin crust pizza. It’s greasy and cheesy, with just the right amount of sauce. My mom absolutely loves their regular slice and their sicilians. Whenever she visits, she wants to order a pie. The house pie is huge and worth it. It takes about 25 minutes to make so order ahead for pickup, or do what I do—place your order in person, then go do your Main Street/Roosevelt shopping until it’s ready. There is no one in my family who doesn’t love them. They’re almost always busy, especially during meal times, when school lets out, etc, but if you’re getting only one or two slices, the wait is usually not long. It’s a real neighborhood joint even with the limited seating. (I’m old enough to remember when it was bigger and they had tables!) The service is friendly. There has only ever been one person working there who (whom?) I didn’t like and would actively avoid if he was taking orders, but thankfully I haven’t seen him in a long while. Everyone else is great, including the guys in the back making the pizzas. Tip: If you like your pizza crispy, like my mom does, just ask. But, you need to eat it immediately. If you get it to-go, it will lose that crispness. Better to crisp it yourself when you get home on a flat pan. It’s really actually better when you do it yourself at home. Sadly, they don’t offer individual white slices, but you can buy a white pie and it’ll be delicious. You can get it with toppings like jalapeños, onions, mushrooms, and peppers. Yum!

I was excited to see how crowded this place was cuz it would mean that it was gonna be some damn good pizza!! I could barely get in, that's how crowded it was!! I ordered through the phone beforehand so I was able to get in an out of there fairly quickly. Just note that they would need 30 minutes to make the pizza. The pizza itself is extremely large and definitely a solid pie. Visually looks great and the same goes with the taste! There are some things that I wish could have been better though. The crust was more crunchy than crispy and the underside of the pizza was not as crispy as I hoped for. This is still a very good slice given that they don't use a traditional brick oven. If you're looking to grab a bite of pizza, I definitely recommend it!!

SO RELIEVED that Lucia's is still here! 🎉🎉🎉 I no longer reside in NYC, but I used to frequent this place years ago when GameStop was still next door & DuaneReade was OldNavy. During school days, everybody loved the teachers who ordered Lucia's instead of Domino's or PizzaHut. To newcomers- relax this is a small local shop, bring cash, enjoy that $3.25 plain slice of goodness and be on your way 🍕🍕🍕

Don't look down on something just because it's cheap. Every time I used the subway, the store was always crowded with people. I heard from someone I already knew that this place was delicious, but there was always a long waiting line to get into the store, so I gave up. It was a rainy day. Maybe it was because of the weather, but there were few people. I was finally able to get my hands on this pizza. Many people ordered slice pizza, but I ordered a large whole pizza and brought it home. They bake it and serve it right in the open kitchen where you can watch it being made. I ordered a large pizza and waited about 20 minutes. Plain pizza is the standard here, and there is an additional charge for each topping added. I think it was about $24 with the pepperoni added. Red pepper powder, cheese, special sauce, and even disposable plates are provided. Even though it was busy, the friendly staff responded and my mood improved. The pizza was savory and delicious. It felt a little salty for my taste, but my son said it was delicious. All American food is too salty for my taste. Haha

Google
Lucia is a tiny place with just a half dozen stools to sit, but the pizza here is delicious. The cheese is extremely hot, gooey, and floating on the sauce, but the taste makes it one of my favorite Queens Pizzerias. Just let it cool for a minute. The service is good, and the main server is always telling great stories. It's my go-to for a quick slice and coke in the downtown Flushing area.

Dave M.

Yelp
Been going to Lucia since 1972 as a young teenager when my family moved nearby in Flushing. It was called PM Pizza at the time, and there was no seating, not even the three bar stools that currently exist. It's a hole in the wall kind of place but those are often the best places and it certainly is in this case. The pizza (Sicilian and regular) has been consistently great over the years and the taste has not changed much - if at all - with the apparent changes in ownership. Sweet tomato sauce and tasty cheese. I have not lived in the area for many years but still make it a point to stop by if I am ANYWHERE near downtown Flushing. Several years ago, I had my wife and children stop by on the way to a Mets game and now I have a household filled with Lucia lovers. We sometimes have a few slices on the way to the game and drop by after the game to get a pie to take home to Long Island. Well worth it if you love old time NY style pizza.

Yelp
Stayed at the renaissance hotel nearby and walked to this place My boss had never been to New York and wanted some pizza Boy did Lucia's deliver!! Phenomenal. Nothing crazy, just consistent and delicious. Great service and good people.

Yelp
Food: Stopped in to try this plain slice because this place was featured in a recent New York Eater article as one of the best slices in New York City. The pizza wasn't bad but it's nothing special. I'm not sure why it was featured in the article. The sauce and cheese were good, but the crust wasn't the best. I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to get pizza here. Service: Service wasn't the best. We were standing in line to order our slice while someone was finishing up placing their order. Meanwhile, someone else walked in ahead of us to order, and the person taking orders behind the counter took his order first even though we, along with another customer behind us, were waiting in line first. Ambiance: The place is small and has about five seats and a counter for eating, but the space is tight, and seating is not comfortable. Overall, I would recommend this spot if you're craving pizza and in the area, but it's nothing special that you need to try.

Yelp
I have so many fond childhood memories of this pizza place! I used to frequent this cozy little pizza spot every time I would visit downtown Flushing to take the 7 Train or the LIRR. The shop is tiny, with barely any room to order and limited to a few countertop stools. The crust is very thin and slightly crispy. The sauce is zesty and the cheese is flavorful. The reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because the quality isn't as great as I remember. Based on my memory, the pizza used to be extraordinary but recently hasn't been the same as I recall. Still, the pizza is above average and satisfying for a quick bite near Flushing main street.

Yelp
Amazing cheese plain pizza slice! Definitely going back. Service was nice & fast. Only very limited stools so we took out bc no space to eat.
google avatar

Samantha J.

Yelp
Always a good pizza. This was a snack while waiting on 2 pies and 2 beef patties with cheese. Always a goto place for family visiting NYC. Service was fast. You. A call in your order and come pick it up. There's like maybe 5 stools to sit at and eat there.

Yelp
One of our friends claimed that Lucia was one of the best pizza joints around NYC so we made it as one of stops in our food tour. I had some doubts looking at the pictures but they do not do them justice. This place seems like a local favorite because while we were looking at the menu, there was a steady stream of customers who knew exactly what they wanted. Very small space with mostly standing room or a couple of counter stools. There's a little counter outside where you can stand and eat as well but there isn't any shade. I think most people just order the regular, which is a cheese pizza and if you want toppings, it's $0.75 each. Food comes out really fast since all they have to do is heat it up. A single slice is large enough for one person, maybe even two if you're not trying to eat that much. It's got a thin curst, crunchy bottom, and is very oily but in a good way. And there's parmesan, oregano, garlic powder and chili flakes on the countertops. Overall, very good value for a delicious slice of pizza!

Yelp
Lucia Pizza was one of many stops of our journey to eat everything in Flushing. We came on a recommendation from a friend and were honestly a bit skeptical when we saw photos. But we decided to give the benefit of the doubt and check it out anyways! The sausage pizzas were probably the saddest of the photos we saw but I still ended up getting it anyways for the extra meat. Don't judge a book by its cover because I was pleasantly surprised! I imagined thick slices of sausage but they were thinly sliced to not overwhelm the rest of the ingredients; good ratio of ingredients for each bite. Not only that, but the slices were huge at a great price. Red pepper flakes, oregano, and parmesan available for those that like to drown your pizza like I do. Overall, great spot to grab a quick slice of pizza. Friendly staff too!
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
We were on a food crawl and Lucia Pizza was one of our stops. No frills spot, with standing room inside and a few bar seats. Since we had multiple stops ahead of us, we just decided to split a pepperoni slice and a sausage and pepperoni slice. The man helping us was friendly and quick with his service. The crust is thin and crispy, but still a little flimsy from how fresh it comes out. The cheese is oozing and there's a decent amount of pepperoni and sausage on top of the slices. There's parmesan, oregano and red chili flakes on the countertops for you to add on top of your pizza as well. Really delicious pizza, and great value at ~$3/$4. If we had more stomach space, I would have absolutely wanted my own slice!

Yelp
Solid slice considering this tiny busy pizzeria is located in downtown flushing where it is mainly fast food and Asian restaurants. I got a plain cheese sliuce which was a fair $3.25/slice. I had come doubts especially after looking at the undercarriage of my slice (yellow and no char) but the thin slice was definitely crispy with tangy tomato slice and hot enough to burn my face off. Definitely a solid slice.

Yelp
Easy ambiance, small store, good pizza. I keep craving NY Pizza from my youth. In the years past, the pizzas haven't really met the memory I had, but this is very close. Served piping hot, gooey cheese and nice tomato flavor. Nice people in the store.

Yelp
Best pizza in Queens. Quick service, no frills, and amazing pizza. I prefer this place than pizza joints in Manhattan. This place is practically an institution in the area. The crust has nice chew to them and holds their shape with good browning on the bottom. Sauce has a nice tang and not overly sweet like some other joints. And I love the amount of cheese they put on each pie. They also sell pizza dough the same price as a slice And they have Italian ices they sell right at the window for those hot summer days.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Very good pizza in the heart of Flushing's Chinatown, which I was surprised to find. It reminded me of Joes Pizza. The sauce was the best part, perfect balance of sweet and zingy. I gave it a 4 instead of 5 because the warmup on my third slice (I was hungry hehe) was off, it became too crispy. I preferred the crisp-chew on the first two slices that I ate. But maybe I'm being nitpicky, because this really was a very memorable sauce. I'd come back. It was way better than Champion pizza a few doors down....
google avatar

Sandy D.

Yelp
After seeing the handful of patrons in the store, we had thought Lucia Pizza would be decent enough to try out for a pizza night one day. Not sure if delivery played a part, but the pizza we received was the worst I ever had. We ate it as soon as we got it, so the pizza was still warm. The cheese quickly detaches itself from the bread as soon as I picked it up. The toppings also looked mediocre and tasted just as mediocre. I barely remembered what toppings I ordered from how scarce everything was. It's honestly disrespectful what we ate. I wouldn't come back to try again.

Yelp
Was looking for gourmet pizza in the area. Here's what we ordered: - Sicilian slice: quite well done. Exactly what we wanted - Vegetable slice: hefty on the veggies in an enjoyable way - Margherita Slice: lovely - Penne alla Vodka slice: easily the favorite of the night - Grandma slice: still don't know what this even is but so well received - BBQ chicken slice: this was the one we had the most difficulty with. Honestly, it's probably because we don't love BBQ sauce but it is a hefty amount of BBQ chicken - Meat lover's pinwheel: a lovely spin of various meats around dough. With a dipping sauce Overall, this place met our expectations for gourmet pizza and we were super pleased. I did ask for extra parm/sauce, which it did not come with, so was a bit of a bummer. But overall, quite a lovely place nearby for $4.5-6 slices if you want a variety of pizzas! I will say, not sure if it it was from Uber Eats or the restaurant itself, it took us 1.5 hours longer than anticipated for our delivery to be made.

Yelp
Lucia's is my childhood pizzeria from the 1970s. Stopped by recently after many decades and it is still the same solid, classic NYC slice. Perfect crust. Nice balanced sauce. And just the right amount of cheese. There is a reason Lucia's has been around for 60+ years.

Yelp
This small pizzeria has been around forever and I can see why they're still standing. This pizza is so good and the staff is very nice. Easily the best pizza in queens, next to margaritas of course. Any time I'm in the area I will return. It's kinda small and gets really crowded so be patient but know you'll be hooked.

Yelp
I had to go to to New York for work. I'm told to go to Flushing Chinatown for food. I wanted some authentic Chinese food while I am in New York Àll of a sudden I see amid all the Chinese restaurants and shops in Flushing I found a pizza joint. I wasn't looking for one. I wasn't craving for one. But i thought if they had the guts to open up a pizza place in the chaos of chinese food it better be good. I am glad to say....you guys are great pizza at a reasonable price in an area where u wouldn't expect it.

Ed W.

Yelp
Good ny style pizza! Busy throughout the afternoon so you know it's fresh. Fast counter service.

David A.

Yelp
First, I grew up in NYC in the 70s. Lucia is tops when it comes to old-school NYC metal-oven pizza. After all these years, it's still bringing it home. And a big shout out to the guys that work there and to the transit workers that eat there.

David H.

Yelp
Perfect NY slices for uber eats late night eating at hotel. Three slices of, cheese, two topping and a three topping ..good prices ...size wise a typical Ny slice ... would have preferred more cheese but overall a decent place. Recommend
google avatar

Vicki P.

Yelp
The reviews are right. I decided on the spinach roll instead of pizza and it did not disappoint! It's a small place with limited seating but definitely worth the wait. Can't wait to return and try their pizza!!
google avatar

Bobby S.

Yelp
I know it's not one of the well known names in NY pizza... but it should be. Flushing is the Mecca for authentic Chinese food... but mixed in at the heart of flushing is this amazing pizza place! It's a tiny hole in the wall with a few bar stools. It smells of non stop fresh pizza and dough coming out of the oven. That melted cheese and burning fresh tomato sauce that pools the cheese oil on the surface when you bend it in half... The slurp as you can't wait and take a huge bite and the swirling around in your mouth in the hopes that you don't burn off all your taste buds and roof of your mouth... only to repeat it until all there is left is the crispy crust... All you remember is how much you miss the slice you just ate... and just like that you think about that slice the very next day and no matter what you eat... you make your way back for another slice... This is that slice... the one you want everyday for the rest of your life...
google avatar

Jessy M.

Yelp
This place is busy and packed! Pizza was really greasy but my husband liked it, I had a sausage calzone and loved it. First meal in NYC since we got here and we were able to walk there and bring home dinner, I would eat it again but definitely a different pizza since I'm not a pepperoni fan because they can be greasy and our pepperoni definitely was greasy!
google avatar

Mack C.

Yelp
Lucia's has been a staple in flushing for decades! Pop off the 7 train and you gotta grab a slice every time! Thin crust and tangy sauce! Great slice!
google avatar

Lisa V.

Yelp
Good pizza in the middle of a bustling Asian cuisine mecca! It is a small place with only a few seating so it's best to take your pizza to go unless you're just wanting a slice or two and have a small group of people. We were there on a Friday evening and it was packed! I would recommend this place over others in the area based on the customer service alone. The lady in the front taking orders is excellent at her job given the busyness of the place! We called in our order ahead before pick up (recommend doing this)! My son and I ordered a medium pizza and ate it there. Luckily we had enough counter space, but we were in and out in about 30 mins!
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
Good pizza but you'll have to stand in the corner, away from the fray of eager buyers, because there are no seats. It's mainly a take-out anyway, with most ppl on their way somewhere, and dropping by for a few slices to go. The pizza is reliable, and very oily , so grab extra napkins to sop up that extra oil.

Laura W.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Order thru Uber and not only was order late and not delivered but the people who picked up the phone told me order will arrive in 5 min the first time I called. After waiting another 15 min the person that picked up the phone told me that it's going to take another 20min. WTH! And they weren't even apologizing for being late just told me to call Uber to cancel the order. Seriously irresponsible and horrible service. Their service has been getting worst and worst thru the year. I've been eating here for over 20 years and this is the last straw.
google avatar

Joanne C.

Yelp
Small little pizza place with very limited seating! Got a slice of sausage pizza pretty fast and it tasted great! Don't forget to add the crushed red peppers and oregano. The front staff also did a small act of kindness that meant a lot to us.
google avatar

eric s.

Yelp
Poor service! They talk to you as if you're dumb. Ill have better pizza somehere else.
google avatar

Yelp
The sauce is the best. Great neighborhood spot. And very underrated! Love coming here often with the family.
google avatar

Yelp
A very solid NY slice Crunch: 5/5 Cheese: 5/5 Sauce: 4/5 would like it a little more sweet Crust: 4/5 wish it had a little more flavor on the crust Price: 5/5 I would definitely come back

Kate Y.

Yelp
Always the best. The quality does not need to be talked about it's the best you get in the area. The service is fast and efficient. Nice mom and pop spot.
google avatar

Noe C.

Yelp
The real deal here, great tomato sauce, cheesy and great crust and fresh from the oven. Boy I wish they deliver to Jackson Heights, I came to flushing just for this and it was worth it!. Great quick and friendly staff too. Can't beat that.
google avatar

Russell D.

Yelp
Great pizza and service. Really popular place, Sicilians were still crunchy after a reheat at home

Yelp
We just landed in New York from 8 hours on a plane from London, and we're staying overnight near La Guardia airport to fly home the next day. We ordered a pizza just after 6:30 pm using Uber Eats from a place four blocks away. I should have picked it up but wasn't sure if the neighborhood. It was supposed to be there at 7:15. At 7:30 no pizza. Called the restaurant three times and they blamed the Uber driver, who blamed Lucia. What a cluster. At 8:20 pm the pizza arrived. The pizza tasted okay but definitely not what you expect in New York. It was like the Greek pizza place near my house when. I was a kid. It was a decent pizza surrounded by a terrible delivery experience. And all I wanted to do was eat and sleep...

Jordan H.

Yelp
Very unresponsive to phone calls. Food is okay, but they are way more responsive if you go to them in person rather than over the phone. They kept us on hold for over ten minutes and never responded to us.

Javier R.

Yelp
First time visiting NYC from El Paso, TX, saw this place with great reviews. Did not disappoint!! Didn't get the person's name that attended us however, amazingly friendly person and even give my kiddos a taste of their frozen dessert. My kid's favorite place out of all the restaurants. Awesome place!!! Thank you for the experience!!
google avatar

Mia L.

Yelp
This place is probably the best pizza I've had since my trip to Italy, the sauce is a-little in the sweeter side, but the crust is on point. Parking on the area is a little difficult since there is no street parking both sides, the place is located in the heart of traffic, lmao If you some how walking or taking the subway station near by I do recommend drop by and picking up a slice, it's worth the trip for a good slice, To those who drive, I don't advice double marking, cuz you will get a ticket.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Been going here since elementary school and everytime I return to Flushing, I always salute this store. Just perfect NY PIZZA everytime. So sad there's no shirt or hat nor stickers I can buy. I've been traveling the world with the Army, and I always think and talk about this place as a symbol of hope. That's how great this place is and nobody would ever regret it ever!!!
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
Though not the best and absolutely far from the worst, this is a super solid pizza joint if you ever need a break from all the Asian cuisine that pretty much makes up for 98% of downtown Flushing, given that it's the last one standing in downtown Flushing after Barone's closed down a few years ago. This place is the epitome of a true NYC quick, grab-and-go hole-in-the-wall with a 5-seater in a narrow, vertical layout and a take-out window where you can scarf down your slice for a few minutes while you either fawn at the traffic or keep a watchful eye on your bus arrival. Although pizza will never be at the $1.50 price point that I grew up with and enjoyed, the $3 for a plain slice is still a great deal given how much inflation has skyrocketed, with some places even upright charging $5 for a slice. I do get their garlic knots on days where I'm not super cognizant of garlic breath but even their garlic knots don't have a strong taste or aroma since they're lathered in garlic powder vs real garlic and herbs. Buuuut, you really can't beat the 3 for $1 deal! Definitely a no-frills place and everyone who comes here is in and out very quickly, so not the type of place to hang around.
google avatar

Pauline H.

Yelp
This peach shop is so delicious. My cousin bought me pizza there one time and brought it over to my house and I asked where they bought it from and they said there I was saying wow every place you go to is a different taste, but that's what makes a good about pizza, it just doesn't have the same taste and to me. This was very delicious and I recommend it to others.
google avatar

Victor C.

Yelp
I love Asian cuisine, but Lucia's Pizza is an oasis in the desert. They have traditional NYC thin-crust and Sicilian pizzas. I really like their traditional slices, served hot and fresh. Their plain cheese is great, but I recommend the pepperoni too. Delicious and hits the spot each time. They are friendly, and their store is clean. The set up inside is simple, been lucky to always grab a seat. Great prices for one of the best pizza places in Queens.
google avatar

Karen X.

Yelp
Lucia Pizza is the definition of hole in the wall but their pizza is absolutely delicious. When it's hot and fresh? You can't beat that in Queens.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
Yup I see what the hype is about. Their dough, cheese and tomato sauce just all goes perfectly. Worth it! They are top on my list for best pizza in flushing.

Raymond L.

Yelp
Best pizza in Flushing! Been coming here for the past 30 years and it tastes exactly the same.
google avatar

Jackie B.

Yelp
I'm backkkkkkkkkk and I missed you SOOOOOOO much I brought the family!! As you grow in generation so will your customers. My mother brought me here as a little girl and now it's my turn!! I THANK YOU for your food... your customer service/hospitality and I appreciate coming here when I am on vacation. The food speaks for itself and we ADORE youuuuuuuuuuu!!
google avatar

Kat L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite pizzas in NYC and it's right in the heart of Flushing. It's a small store with only 6 seats so most of time I'm standing. They sell individual slices. The best way to eat it right there at the store when it's served piping hot. I have burned my tongue a few times! It is piping hot, crispy and oily. Exactly what a NYC pizza slice should be. They just opened a new location in Bayside. If I'm ever in that area, I will go there for a taste.
google avatar

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Lucia Pizza is soo good! It's definitely the best pizza in town! I actually have to drive 15 min to get my go-to pizza in Queens! The classic cheese pizza slice or the pepperoni are my favorites!
