Not sure how I never reviewed Lucia before. As a kid, I’d have a slice every Saturday. My parents would also often get me a slice on their way home from work during my picky eating stage. It tied with Barone for my favorite pizza place growing up. I really love their pizza and could easily have it everyday.
Lucia serves the perfect NY-style thin crust pizza. It’s greasy and cheesy, with just the right amount of sauce. My mom absolutely loves their regular slice and their sicilians. Whenever she visits, she wants to order a pie. The house pie is huge and worth it. It takes about 25 minutes to make so order ahead for pickup, or do what I do—place your order in person, then go do your Main Street/Roosevelt shopping until it’s ready. There is no one in my family who doesn’t love them.
They’re almost always busy, especially during meal times, when school lets out, etc, but if you’re getting only one or two slices, the wait is usually not long. It’s a real neighborhood joint even with the limited seating. (I’m old enough to remember when it was bigger and they had tables!) The service is friendly. There has only ever been one person working there who (whom?) I didn’t like and would actively avoid if he was taking orders, but thankfully I haven’t seen him in a long while. Everyone else is great, including the guys in the back making the pizzas.
Tip: If you like your pizza crispy, like my mom does, just ask. But, you need to eat it immediately. If you get it to-go, it will lose that crispness. Better to crisp it yourself when you get home on a flat pan. It’s really actually better when you do it yourself at home.
Sadly, they don’t offer individual white slices, but you can buy a white pie and it’ll be delicious. You can get it with toppings like jalapeños, onions, mushrooms, and peppers. Yum!
