Oakland is a unique place where you can find soul food and local cuisine nestled in the heart of the city. Unlike San Francisco or the South Bay, many people are unaware of the diverse food scene here in Oakland. One evening, I was looking for some fried rice 🍚🍛and, since I was staying nearby, I stumbled upon a charming little spot where I decided to order a combination plate.🍜
The elderly lady at the cashier was incredibly sweet and friendly, and I suspected the chef was her husband. I requested fried rice along with half chow mein, and she provided me with excellent options for that evening. When I went to pay, I noticed that I could add extra shrimp for just a dollar more; I asked her for the shrimp, and she generously gave it to me for free. She was truly delightful!
I enjoyed a fantastic dinner that night for about $11, and the portions were enormous. It's these hidden gems that deserve more love and attention, as not many people take the time to review places like this. I rated it a solid four stars overall, with five stars for the atmosphere and service, all thanks to that wonderful couple. While the food was acceptable—nothing extraordinary—I appreciated the experience enough to give the place a strong rating.
