Lucky Fish & Chips Review - Kalk Bay - Cape Town - The Infatuation

"While the Cape of Good Hope itself is fairly overrated, swimming with penguins at Boulders Beach (make sure you go to the entrance on the far right), surfing in Muizenberg, and eating fish and chips in Kalk Bay are not. The Kalk Bay Harbour down the southern peninsula is where the fisherman return with each day’s catch, so you’re pretty much as close to the source as you can get. The classic fish and chips shop is Kalky’s, but we prefer Lucky Fish, a local fast-food chain with a location directly across the road. The best call is to get a parcel of fried hake from each one and decide for yourself." - Dana Alloy

Best fried hake and calamari you can get! Always good never disappoints, this is my favourite place to visit. For a more formal sitting, try the other branch at kalk bay which is equally good. Prawns are shockingly bad though but I don’t go there for their prawns. Can get quite busy during peak times where you gotta wait for a table for sit downs or struggle to find parking outside but it’s usually worth it.

Good day and compliments for the year ahead. Today the 01/01/2026, my wife daughter and I visited your establishment in muizenberg like many other time since you trading there. But today was disappointed to us as we ordered a hake and chips and a snoek and chips. My order # was 30183. When our orders came we first started with our chips because it's always fried good. When my wife and I started our snoek outside was good fried but the inside was disappointed cause it was all soft and abit off. We called the assistant which collected our plate and replaced it with another piece of snoek which had the same texture on the inside. So we just disgard of the fish and left. This is the first time it happens and it left a bad memory. Allister Roode.

I visited Lucky Fish & Chips in Muizenberg recently, and it was a major letdown. The main issue is the portion size; I paid a premium price but received snoek pieces so small they looked like they were meant for a child’s meal. It is definitely not value for money when you’re still hungry after paying for a full main course. On top of the small portions, the customer service was quite bad. The staff served us with a clear attitude, making us feel unwelcome. It's a shame because Muizenberg is a great spot to sit down and eat, but I don't think people will continue to visit if they are treated this way. To make matters worse, the food didn't even taste as good as I expected it to—the flavor was underwhelming and just didn't live up to the reputation. There are far better options nearby that actually value their customers and provide decent portions. I won’t be back.

If you looking for some old school fish and chips you cannot go wrong here . Ill admit the hake was great and calamari was just OK but its defiantly worth it

Hake good but unfortunately calamari not up to standard, dry and hard , had to go into the bin. I come to this place often for the hake , gave the calamari a try and unfortunately not edible except the chips

I paid for food that's portion didn't even fit the price , anyways their fish wasn't even cooked properly, fish more sour w/o the piece lemon added. Chips crispy but not all fried to the same degree. Overall I wouldn't revisit.

First time trying Lucky’s Fish and Chips and I was left impressed! I think it’s better than Fish On The Rocks and Kalkys! The food was fresh, the service was great and the atmosphere was fantastic! Keep up the standard! I have the Hake and Chips

We got calamari and chips, 2 piece hgake and chips. What a shocker when the portions was served and the fried calamari and chips were the same as the calamari and chip roll. The chips was oily and had to wipe it off with a serviette. Only one person at the till and it was kinda full and the line moved along slowly. The sauce was also charged
