There are not a lot of sit-in Chinese restaurants left with full service, decor, and the whole works. So I do appreciate Lucky Key for that. However, the interior of Lucky Key is very off putting. The booths are bright pink, and some of them broken. The carpet seems very dirty, and most of the ceiling has very dark spots. Decoration is old and eclectic. Their health score today was 84, but when I came here a few years ago, a roach literally crawled onto our table. Luckily, I did not see any today and thought to give them another chance.
My son and I tried the Snow White Chicken lunch special that came with plain fried rice, soup, and spring roll. It was $6.95 for Wednesday's special, but otherwise other lunch specials are $7.95. A bit pricey for Chinese food. The egg drop soup was good, as well as the spring roll. My meal was a bit on the salty side, but no real complaints. I also tried the Sizzling Rice Soup for 2. Traditionally, the hard rice is served at the table and thrown into the soup so that it "sizzles." But the rice was already in there, and I did not care for the flavor, which heavily tasted of ginger.
Service was okay. She spoke in such a low tone, I could barely hear her. I thought it was a language barrier, so I asked if she spoke Mandarin Chinese, and she did. It was still difficult to understand her in Mandarin because she spoke so softly.
I gave this place two tries, and I don't think I'll be back. Good luck, Lucky Key.
