Houston’s Tokyo Night Festival Returns in November With More Than 30 Food Vendors | Eater Houston

"A theme park on Airline Drive that has closed due to expired permits and construction issues; its unexpected shutdown prompted organizers to relocate the festival that had been scheduled to take place there. Festival spokespeople described the news as shocking and disappointing and said the closure was beyond their control." - Brittany Britto Garley

Pictures don't do it justice!! This place is BEAUTIFUL with a million different places to take photos! Very cool art and sculpture everywhere. Made me feel like a kid again! Also interactive. Really good place for children and adults with a fantastic price! Definitely make time for it! Park is also large enough to be interesting but small enough that it doesn't exhaust you.

Google
This was a great place to take photos. Admission for adults is $10 and kids $5. This was way cheaper than other places. We had so much fun. Also you can feed the fish and they have a a little shop to buy drinks n snacks. They have lots of space to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Love the music playing it was calming for me. Thank you for creating this it’s Awesome!!!

Google
It definitely wasn't what I expected because I thought it was like a game type place. But .... MY WHOLE FAMILY LOVED THE EXPERIENCE. It's actually a really cool place that teaches you about the important history of people places and things of China. Very cool, relaxing atmosphere. We even got to feed the koi fish which my son and daughter very much enjoyed. Oh yeah .... there were also these huge, amazing Transformers made up of car parts that were really cool too !

Sohaira M.

Google
I LOVE this place!!! Perfect place for an event, a date or to bring the kids. It's like leaving TX and going to China. You can feed the coy which I really recommend. There's a lot! Fans were located all over the park to keep you cool. They also have misters around the park too. Why is this place not more popular? It's almost like a hidden gem. There is music playing around the park to give you the full experience. The gifts shop is fun too. I got a paper umbrella with a beautiful design. The staff is helpful and sweet. I was also happy to see that they were Covid safe. The restrooms are also clean. People were social distancing so you can truly relax. I had a great time!

Google
Definitely worth checking out! Not too expensive like other places, plenty of photo ops. Beautiful art and statues and there's a Koi pond where you can feed the fish. Great place to enjoy with the family or a date, will come back soon!

I took my kids to Lucky Land over the Christmas break. I was floored by what I saw. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. The environment is peaceful and the grounds are well maintained. There are fountains, gardens, models, and a little market-like area where you can get some concessions. In this same area, which is kind of like a courtyard, is a dragon head you can control. My kids had a lot of fun here. It is open air and very nice to walk around. At the end of our visit, my kids went to play on the drums. Inside you will find a few different themed areas like the Happy Panda Village and an area of life sized Transformers. These Transformers were really cool. The sheer labor alone to put it all together is admirable, never mind the scale to which it was done. The employees were all welcoming and warm. Love this place. A real gem in Houston in an unlikely place in town.

Crystala Z.

Google
Definitely worth the 40 minute drive. We came on a Friday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves. Admission is only $10 for adult and $5 for kids 12 and under. Snacks and souvenirs are reasonably priced. Lots of places to take pictures. Overall, I was happy with my visit and will be returning.

Ricardo M.

Google
At Lucky Land everything was amazing! We took many pictures and they look great! The mini terracotta warriors are so cool, and the panda village is adorable. A very clean place with plenty of places to take good pictures. Also you could feed the koi fish whice was nice. Amazing place for the family!

Yelp
I tried to visit lucky land last weekend and was disappointed to find that it's still temporary closed. The parking lot was open to the flea market, but Lucky Land itself wasn't accessible. It was a bit nostalgic driving up, because I visited 12 years ago and remembered how fun it was. The displays and atmosphere really made me feel like i had stepped into China for a moment. I really hope they reopen soon.

Yelp
Fun place to bring the kids and enjoy been to Houston many times and didn't even know this existed. You have a variety of flea markets right next door as well and this location is more of a sigh to see they have Asian themed village with many statues and information. $10 per person and you also have a chance to get a ride on a rickshaw with was pretty cool.
google avatar

Evelyn L.

Yelp
A hidden gem. The place isn't too big, buts it adorable. Hopefully they can expand it in the future. Tickets are $10
google avatar

Thuy P.

Yelp
Lucky land locates in a non Asian populated area. Which is a bit weird but the park is quite interesting. They have pretty much China shrinking down to a miniature area. If you go during Chinese New Year they do have dragon dances entertainment for free.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Not worth $10 per adult plus $2 parking. It may be worth $2 to park and go to the flea market next door. Lucky Land itself is just an odd mix of asian themed photo opportunities. Most things are poorly maintained and haphazardly assembled. The only thing real here are the koi.
google avatar

Danasha S.

Yelp
This place is so cool. My dad took my daughter and they had a ball. It's so cool that we have a place like this to experience a different culture. Very affordable. They had different sections that showcased different styles of Asian culture. I would suggest everyone visit this small local business!
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This place is so small and offers very little to be desired. You could walk around the entire "land" in 5 minutes or less. There are a few instagram worthy shots but nothing that is $10 worth. I actually went for lunar new year where they had dragon dances and performances but it was so crowded that if you weren't standing at the front of the stage waiting your view was definitely obstructed or from a distance. The parking is $2 or $4 for reserved which is full and unavailable but it's cash only and that was mentioned absolutely no where on the website. Due to the crowd, the parking attendant just allowed me through but it was stressful.

Yelp
This was my first time here. So, I didn't know what to expect. I got here in the early afternoon, and parking was already full in the immediate Lucky Land lot. But, across the street, I was able to park in that lot for $2. So, bring cash. Anyway, once parked, we made it to the entrance. For some reason, on their website, you can't buy tickets in advance. But, you'll have no problem buying tickets when you get to the venue. I think they take card or cash. Just bring both forms of money for flexibility. I gotta say this venue has been decorated very well. I mean, I felt like I was in ancient China. They had smaller scale versions of the temples with Emperors, Empresses, and their royal court; smaller version of the terra-cotta warriors in Xian; a portion of the venue that mimicked the Great Wall of China; several statues of armored Chinese soldiers; etc. Well, you get the picture. They also have a souvenir and garment stall. If you want a panda teddy bear or a traditional Chinese dress to bring home, they have it here. I'm not sure how much they charge, though. I think you can probably navigate through this venue in a couple of hours. But, most people stay for the live performances. The only downside was their performances were delayed on the schedule. However, I did enjoy the Dragon dances. I loved all the different colored dragons. Don't forget to feed them some money for their performance. After this, the Kungfu show was just ok. It was kind of underwhelming. Other than that, you can also purchase a ride on the rickshaws here. I didn't do it this time. But, it looked fun. The food here was quite limited. I just got lemonade and water to drink here. The lemonade was too sweet. For a slightly sweet snack, I did get a bubble waffle. It was not bad. It just wasn't as light or airy as the bubble waffles I used to eat in Hong Kong. Overall, I'd recommend coming for the experience and getting a taste of the Chinese culture. Come here early to get a good parking spot in the Lucky Land lot.

Yelp
Personally, I love this place. I went here today for the Lunar New Year celebration so it was a special day. During my visit I felt like $10 is a bit much especially since we have to pay for parking. But then I remembered that we pay way more for things like Candytopia and Color Factory. They are similar in the aspect of these places are made mostly to take pictures. There are a ton of photo opportunities here. We spent maybe two hours alone just taking pictures in the various scenes they had to offer. I'm very happy with the place. Everyone is very welcoming and they educated us on Chinese culture and the Lunar New Year. The host made a joke that we don't need to visit China since there's a mini China here. It's pretty and interactive. And the pictures came out really nice for me! I really can't complain about my experience here. Luckily, because it's cold the place was pretty empty. So for the Lion Dance we had a very clear view. There's a lot of parking and it's $2 to park. They only had one food truck and snack places by the souvenirs. I would suggest to eat in advance so you can stay longer. I saw a friend who came to the event last week so my plans were only to take pictures and see the show anyway. I would highly suggest following them on their Facebook page to see everything this place is about.

Yelp
Wow what a great find in Houston! I took my kids on weekday around 11AM and there was NO ONE THERE! Literally had the place to ourselves. Thank God for Google Maps because I would have never found this place. So much to do and see you can easily spend over an hour here with the kids. It's like a small interactive cultural museum! When we went it was cold that day so we would've stayed longer but my daughter was getting irritable with the weather. I loved all the different displays so many picture worthy scenes and sets. My only gripe is I wish they had displays at each exhibit that talked about more in depth the history of China and the customs. I wanted to my kids to learn more about the culture however they still had fun running around looking at the different exhibits and taking everything in. A definite visit for kids/families in the Houston area!

Yelp
For the price, you can have a unique and fun afternoon. That's really all you can ask for. Would I go again? Maybe, maybe not. But it's definitely worth going once.

Yelp
How can anybody not like anything for free until January 17th? This is something pretty different in which it is a Chinese themed park where you walk around, shoot lots of pictures, look at the interesting statues that they have up and order foods from one of the concession stands. There are at Asian themed tables that they have spread around as park type bench and tables in their own little huts. Parking is of the dirt type so if it rains, expect for a little muddiness or very dusty on a hot summer day. There is room for about 100 cars. I would say this size this venue is about two football fields ever take a few square feet. It does not look like much from the outside until you walk in and see how they have everything laid out. You will see lots of statues, little Bridges, a good 25' by 30' terra cotta Soldier display to the left which stand each about two fee high. I would say there are around 10 to 12 little themed areas in their own uniqueness here. I have gone through the Liberty to post about 150 pictures for you to sample so that you can clearly understand what I am speaking of. I believe the opening times are from Tuesday through Sunday 9 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock in the evening but things may change. when they start charging after January 17th adult will be $10 and the kids I believe it will be 5 or $7. This is really a unique venue that is Asian themed finally on our side of town, the north side, which I hop that you would enjoy and that they also may prosper and grow. You know Little Mexico flea market that is very hard to pass by on the weekends? It is located butted on the southside of them. If you are unlucky and come down Gulfbank, take a right and it will be on your right hand side but be prepared for a lot of traffic because of the flea market. You'll probably have much less of a headache if you come down Little York until you hit Airline take a left and then ventured down until you see it on your right. Note: Those Terracotta soldiers look familiar don't they? The owners here bought the terracotta's off of the ones that you probably saw in the Katy area years ago. This is the year of the chicken, Happy New Years.
google avatar

T J.

Yelp
Guess this place is closed. Went by there today. Gates were closed and a sign was up saying Mexican flea market or something like that. But it wasn't open yet either.

Yelp
Happy New Year! I visited here on February 10th 2019 during the 2019 Chinese new year.I loved here. I loved the Chinese garden. It was beautifully built.I saw some koi fish in the pond.I really enjoyed bamboo jungle. It made me feel zen-moment.I learned Chinese historical figures such as Qin Shi Huang.I took many pictures with panda and others.I took a tour of a rickshaw. It was five minutes ride.I loved it. I am from Japan.I saw cherry blossoms in the garden.Cherry blossom is a Japanese flower.Chinese flowers should be plum blossom(梅花) and peony(牡丹).I also saw Japanese torii(Japanese gate). These were examples of confusions between China and Japan. This is a great park.I loved it.However, I have a question about the location. It is located in a Hispanic area of Houston. This park is supposed to be in the Houston Asian town area( Bellaire and Belt 8).What if there is a Mexican park in Houston Asian town? It is strange.I visited on a Sunday. But sadly, the food and drink concession stands went south. If the park had been located in Houston Asian town, more people would have visited here! I really loved here except the location. It is good for kids to visit here in order to learn Chinese culture.

Yelp
Wow!!! This place is really breathtaking. I found this Festival online and just decided to go on a whim. And it was so worth it! I went in here not knowing what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprised. It is something that I have never seen before. This place is so big and so colorfully bright. You feel like you're in another world! Today there was a festival for the Chinese New Year celebrating the year of the pig. They had Dragon dances and lion dances.. it was such a cool experience. They actually have this every year and I just found out that lucky land is one of the most visited places for the festival. Is see why! I really would recommend anyone go and see this place.. it isn't in the nicest area but don't let that prohibit you from visiting!!! You learn a lot of Chinese history and get to see a lot of amazing Asian culture. Go!! You wont regret it!

Caly S.

Yelp
Highly highly recommended this place! It's so beautifully done and totally worth the $10! So may amazing photo ops and just a beautiful scenery to be around. The weekdays are slow and don't have food but it was still worth it. It would have been nice to have more history plaques and more entertainment but I also understand how slow the weekdays are. It made it great for having photos without people tho. It's a great place for adults and kids and would definitely return whenever I am in town again on a busy day to see the difference. This is a hidden gem! Wish I would've known about it when I lived in Houston.

Jessica V.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday at 1pm it was practically empty. No parking fee. $10 for my ticket $5 for my kids all under 12. We've been to many selfie and pictures places, which is what lucky land feels like. However for the price it's worth it. If you have been to any selfie exhibit/museum/mall. They're a bit pricey so this was a great price and offered many areas for pics. My kids enjoyed being able to interact with many of the items and the staff there was awesome offering to take our pics and they took a lot. The ladies at the booth asked us if we had seen so and so area before we left to ensure we got a great experience. They were so kind. I would say to eat before you go because we did spend about 2 hours enjoying the different set ups they had. They do have a souvenir and snack shop and tables which we sat and ate Ice cream at. Overall the kids enjoyed it.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
This is a fun place to kill an hour. Don't expect to spend all day here, but it will entertain you for an hour or so. It costs $10 to get in which seems a little expensive. You can walk around and see all of the different displays. Everything has to do with China, and it ranges from models of villages to over-sized panda statues. I enjoyed feeding the fish. If you get hungry they have a bunch of different restaurants just outside the entrance. You don't have to pay the entry fee to eat at one of the restaurants. This place is not going to blow you away, but if can definitely be a light-hearted way to spend a bit of your afternoon.
google avatar

Jeimy N.

Yelp
the place is extraordinary. you can take incredible photos. I loved the plants and all the decoration of the place. I just hope to go to some festival very soon
google avatar

R. Mark M.

Yelp
Hidden Houston Gem!!!! I took my family to the Panda Festival. It was an incredible cultural experience. We learned a lot about the chinese cultural and at every turn there is a photo opportunity. It is inexpensive with adult costin $10 and kids 6 an up is $6. Kids are free 6 and under. Parking is $2. Great family experience!
google avatar

Felicia G.

Yelp
Pretty little place to visit. Went on a Friday morning and it was dead! We were the only people there. None of the small trinket shops were open, nor was the bubble tea shop which we were looking forward to. It was interesting to look at, and take pictures of, but I wish there were more signs explaining what we were looking at. From the sounds of the other reviews I think maybe going on a Saturday or Sunday would be better, plus the flea markets in the area are open then as well. Not sure it was worth the $10 admission fee.
google avatar

Gabriela C.

Yelp
Lucky Land was fun with the kids! We visited last week during spring break. Tickets $10, but free under 2 Yrs of age. My kids and I walked around and took lots of fun pictures. The mini statues and monuments are interesting. Buddha area was fun for me because that corner felt serene. Spent about 2 hours. Recommend for cultural education, a very stimulating place for kids to explore.
google avatar

Diana V.

Yelp
An amazing experience. One of Houston's best kept secrets. I highly recommend it! We went as a family and everyone enjoyed it so much!
google avatar

Carol A.

Yelp
This place was Zen, very relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Driving by it seems like its closed or under construction but it was opened. Entrance was $10 for adults.

Elvia J.

Yelp
Great fun place to take the kids ans take good photos. I would recommend during the week. Saturdays get crazy with flea market next door
google avatar

Nate C.

Yelp
This place was obviously constructed with passion. It is somebody's labor of cultural love, no question about it. However, this whole place screams with numerous safety hazards: exposed wires; trip hazards; protruding staples; jagged concrete edges. I hope they can reconcile all that before somebody gets injured.
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
Nice attraction. Good for photos. You can see everything in an hour or less, but it wouldn't be bad to hang around and relax for a day here. I came here during the summer, and I was impressed by the staff members' friendliness. It felt as if they wanted to do everything possible for us to enjoy our experience, and that alone is enough to give this place five stars. It was so hot that day, but they provided us umbrellas, cold water bottles, and even some eucalyptus oil for her dizziness when they noticed that my sister wasn't taking the heat well and felt nauseous.
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
It's not Moody Gardens or the museum but still something COVID friendly to take young kids to expecially now that it's getting nice weather. They have a massive school of Koi in their pond and fish feed to give them that the kids enjoyed.
google avatar

Wendy W.

Yelp
Lucky Land has so much potential, it really does. But it isn't off to a great start. It is located in a part of town where i have never traveled and it was super fun to drive down Airline and see a new part of Houston I have never discovered. I'll start with the pros! 1) Until mid January it is free. I am sure they want to get the word out. 2) Visually it is quite nice. They the property is covered with statutes and sectioned off by themes. A panda garden (statues), happy buddha garden, terra-cotta warriors (which used to be at another Houston location - glad to see them back), kung fu statues, emperor statues, coy ponds and nice Chinese benches to sit and relax. 3) The employees are extremely friendly and so happy to explain the chinese culture and direct you to areas of the property. One woman explained that the Lunar new year is in a couple of weeks. I was able to bang on a drum and she gave me coins of good luck as I walked into Lucky Land! Pretty neat! 4) They have cultural demonstrations throughout the day (but no printed flyers of times). -- Hoping this changes. 5) I was able to purchase some wonderful boba tea! And there are lots of snacks around the complex. Cons: 1) I am a huge culture and history buff. There is zero signage that tells anything about the culture and what the statues are in reference to or history behind anything. For instance - there are statues of the Qin Dynasty, but if you didn't know who or what this was, signage would be extremely informational. The history of kung-fu - There are so many statues and patrons are taking photos with them, but there is no signage of the background of the art of kung-fu. Give us some history! The amazing display or terra-cotta soldiers - where is the information behind this? There were so many parents with kids, but how can anyone educate themselves? 2) The parking lot is a disaster. Dirt lot, mud, people jumping over puddles. It's just bad! Hopefully they will take care of this soon. Fortunately I was able to see much of this display (with information) when another company owned the products out in Katy, however now there is no information. I am truly hoping they make this more of an educational experience and not just a money maker from souvenirs from the several pop up stands around the property. Once they start charging my hopes are that the parking lot will be paved and plaques and information/signage will be posted throughout the property. I LOVE that i live in a city with so much culture and Lucky Land can hopefully lead to many great things to come.

Yelp
I didn't get so lucky at Lucky Land. That's just so sad because that's just not the norm for me. Let's start with the trip to get here. It's next door to a flea market and why on earth did I pick a Sunday to drive up here? Possibly, because I found out the day before, it's closed on Monday's, and getting in free was about to expire. Every Latino and their abuelas were going to the Sunny Flea Market. Traffic was not pleasant with my kids who were already not at all enthusiastic; I was taking them somewhere I was keeping a secret. It usually means I know ahead of time they more than likely won't be thrilled when we arrive. Sitting in traffic is best when you're with the love of your life, you can hold hands, he can kiss it, feel on each other, and steal kisses. Parking is in the mud. You must plan to come when the sun is shining so at least it's just dusty. The parking fee is not bad only $2.00 but I hope they raise enough money soon, to redo this section quickly. If you didn't make it here while the entrance fee was free, you missed out, I just don't feel it's worth paying for me and my kids. (I have a whole bunch, they break the bank) On a date yes, I would enjoy coming here again, just relaxing in the many little covered, cozy niches, and grossing out others with public affection. My kids ran through the place, feasted their eyes on all the beautiful statues and were ready to go in 15 minutes. If they can't climb, they just aren't that interested. Don't let my experience ruin it for you and your little ones. I am sure they love looking and not touching. I am sure they enjoy taking pictures at your request. My boys 13, 10 and sassy little 6 year old princess claim it was the worst day ever, but they say that every other day.

Yelp
This is a whimsical place, perfect for a family outing or a nice date. It is hidden in a poor part of town, surrounded by flea markets. However, there are guards in the parking lot and we felt safe at all times. Customer service is superb. Everyone in the staff was so nice and helpful. They wanted to make sure we had a good time. Many of the food and goodies vendors only take cash, and so does the parking attendant. But you can pay with a credit card your entry fee. There is no ATM in there that we could find (as of the time of this writing). We spent three hours there. Lots of good fun. By the way, bring a dollar or two to get food for the koi! It's a lot of fun.
google avatar

Thuc V.

Yelp
This is a great attraction for family with kids. The staff were very friendly and tried their best. We were there during the Summer and despite the scorching heat, the staff came out in their mascot gear! They also had jigsaws to take you around for a ride. Just don't come out here expecting to learn about Chinese history...it's not a museum!
google avatar

HsiaoCheng W.

Yelp
This place is pretty small. If you stand in the middle you can actually see the ends of the park. But they do a good job of keeping the grounds up. And they're super nice here. Free umbrellas to use while stroll around in the heat. Seniors get discount on entrance fee. Rickshaw photos and rides were free. There was a woman selling fish food for $1 but she gave us some free food to give the fish. In and out privileges so if you want to stroll to the flea market for a while and come back later to watch a show you can (show time is 3 pm for Kung fu show). The employees offered to take our photo when they saw us taking photos of each other. Parking in front of the park says it's for Sunny Flea Market and cost $2. We told the guy at the parking lot gate that we were going to Luckyland and he said we didn't have to pay. I understand the owner is a thai lady who married a Chinese man. We heard a lot of folks speaking Thai in the park. We tried the custard and sticky rice at one of the food stalls outside on the right. My wife is super picky about Thai food having grown up there. She said it was pretty tasty. Lady outside was a bit pushy in selling us stuff. We ended up buying something. Be careful if you park on the side of the lot near the flea market where they're constructing a building. Tons of nails and screws all over the parking lot there (Could give you a flat). I hope they do well. I know Forbidden Garden struggled. But hopefully their location close to the markets will be better.
google avatar

Kay C.

Yelp
This park is tucked away but I was glad I visited. You can tell they had put a lot of work into setting it up. It's divided into sections where you can take a stroll and enjoy a different facet. Customer service was fantastic. Everyone is friendly and cheerful. They even provide you an optional umbrella to shield off and keep cool under the burning sun. There are people in costumes out front to greet you, whether they are in martial arts clothing, lion dance, or playing drums. There are plenty of booths and seating out front for dining, snacks, teas, or souvenirs. Every inch is thoughtfully decorated. When you go inside, there's a guy pulling around a rickshaw which I believe you can rent. There's a roaming dragon with a sense of humor that enjoys running up to people, and if you're up for it, it will also chase you down. I saw a guy running in circles with the dragon on his tail. Funniest thing I've seen in a long long time! They will even give you food to feed the koi fish for good luck. You can bang on a gong, pound a drum, and I personally enjoy mimicking the martial arts statues. The kids should enjoy the panda corner. And I thought the lined soldier statues were fascinating. It's something quite different in Houston and it's definitely worth a

Yelp
Happy we finally found this place daughter is obsessed with pandas. It was fun and we will be back.

Yelp
Beautiful garden in the middle of a bunch of flea markets. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. One of the employees fed the koi for us, another showed us the bamboo tunnel. There's a lot of care that went into making the little town. Obviously a labor of love. We had a great time. Takes one to two hours to see everything.

David N.

Yelp
Awesome and very interesting place to take the family..I'm glad we have something like this in Houston..I made a review video about Lucky Land if you guys want to check it out https://youtu.be/hkTsVSnhXRA

Sean K.

Yelp
Super friendly staff! Kids enjoyed this place. No details were overlooked making this place. Traffic getting in and parking was rough, but still it was worth it.

Patricia B.

Yelp
We were a little concerned when we pulled up and were the only car in the parking lot. That concern quickly turned to true amazement. This is wonderful glimpse into China and some of its culture. As we were the only family there at the time, we were treated to information from two of the employees that we might not have had access to otherwise. We learned some information about the yin yang as well as marital arts. The people who run this are very friendly and have a true pride in their culture and a desire to share with others. I hope this place takes off because it is a true asset to the community. We will definitely stop back by next time we're in town.
