"You’re staring at the glorious structure that is The Lark, and suddenly you notice something in the corner of the parking lot that resembles an upscale construction trailer. Welcome to Lucky Penny: The Lark’s casual, all-day spot that’s a very solid lunch option when you’re wine-buzzed and ready to load up on carbs. This order-at-the-counter spot serves mostly pizza, but the sandwiches are solid too. photo credit: Lucky Penny" - Brant Cox

"One person you’re with is gluten-free except when they’ve been drinking, another hates shellfish, and the lone vegan in the group has taken to eating a bar they brought from home under the table at most dinners. Bring everyone to Lucky Penny and then bask in the gratitude that will inevitably come pouring in. The space is bright, with blue chairs and lots of colorful artwork and plants and the menu covers a lot of ground, with all-day breakfast, sandwiches, salads, and a whole separate vegan menu, among other things. They’re open 24 hours every day, and everything is under $25, including steak frites and a waffle grilled cheese that you won’t have to share with most of the people we listed above." - Edward Thompson

First time going to Lucky Penny, this is a nice little bar! Service was good. I had 2 Strawberry Smash cocktails, very tasty and refreshing! Southwest burger and tots were delish too! I would definitely come back!

Google
Really good food and I haven't even tried the stone oven pizza yet. Service is great and really friendly. It's a warm, relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Blackened shrimp with tots 👍🏼

Google
This should be called nickle and dime. Way overpriced with miserable staff. When I felt like I got a poor portion size for the cost I asked for ketchup and mayo and was informed I'll be charged for those. In order to pay for them I was paying with a my card to only be charged another 4%. Will not be returning.

Google
Everything was great. Our server was cute with a fun personality. She complimented the additions to my order and said she was going to copy me. I couldn't complain about a thing. Got a pizza to go. It was fantastic. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with everything, then o added pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, avocado 🥑, and bacon. Superb.

Google
Great place, good food. Definitely coming back when it's a little nicer out for an evening on the patio

Brad Jacobs

Google
Maybe the wost pizza I have ever had. Crust seemed like grocery store pre-made and sauce was bland. Low quality cheese. Our first waitress was cold and accommodating. Our second waitress was great

Stopped in the other day for my first time to grab a quick lunch with my dad, and I wish now I had tried out the Lucky Penny months ago! I had the brat of the day and the soup of the day, both were excellent! I didn't get a chance to check out the beer selection but I hear good things! I will definitely be back to try them all!! Good food, good service, overall, an awesome bar!

Google
Nice looking place, food was tasty but overpriced. Had the fish and chips which had two thick fish pieces and fries but for 14$ I was expecting more. Their burger had a wonderful taste but both orders of fries could of been cooked a little longer.

Julia H.

Yelp
Really enjoy the broasted chicken. Daughter thought Funghi pizza was lacking mushrooms. She thought pickle wrap grilled cheese and white chicken chili were both good. Good service!

Mark S.

Yelp
There was an undisclosed 4% fee for paying by credit card. I hate being nickel and dimed by undisclosed fees and upcharges. This will be my last visit to this restaurant.

Kristian A.

Yelp
The place is cool looking with all the Abraham Lincoln around. The service was great very attentive. The cheese nugs were great but the pizza was terrible. Seemed like the pizza was from a frozen supermarket and just put toppings on top of it. The crust was not edible. We ate a quarter of it and brought the rest of it home for the dogs. Don't get the pizza!

Haley R.

Yelp
Went out to the Lucky Penny with my dad, we've been here before and love the sweet and spicy pizza. We tried the popper dip which was really good as well.

Yolanda Yogi H.

Yelp
Great Neighborhood Eatery Staff always NICE FOOD: It's up to your preferences on flair and flavor. Chicken Chili Pizza ( They must be using whatever boneless chicken they serve and cut it into chunks on the pizza.) don't like chunks only in one spot on a slice of pizza, should spread it out. And the chicken seasoned isn't for pizza of my taste. Remind me of California Pizza Kitchen- Chicken Pizza in frozen section. Italian beef could been shaved thinner, and marinated and soaked in the dipping sauce. Dry and tuff. Bread to thick and hard, for dipping to get that famous Midwest Italian Beef Flair. We Chicagoans are picky about food. But overall GREAT.

Christopher G.

Yelp
Really good burgers, and have a pretty decent beer selection that continues to cycle out for variety. Great lunch spot, can get noisy though.

Rhij B.

Yelp
I love their broasted chicken ans sweet and spicy pizza!highly recommended:) It was my first time to try their food and cannot wait to go back!

Cindy S.

Yelp
Great food and great service! We do our basketball Iowa Club events there and they do a fabulous job!

Constance M.

Yelp
I came here while in town for a basketball tournament. This establishment had plenty of seating for our large group. Our party tried a variety of fares such as salads, wings, pizza, and grilled cheeses. Everyone was more than satisfied with their selection. The service was on point and the decor in this place is creative. Come check it out.

Yelp
Disappointed! We consider ourselves regulars. We have been loyal patrons to Lucky Penny since the beginning. We have been recommending this place and brought a lot of friends with us in the past. We are OK if the menu is update and prices are adjusted if things get more expensive. BUT not on the account of quality of the food. The black bean burger was charred, the fish was dripping of oil and seemed a lot less fresh than usual. The salad was 1/2 the size and not as versatile as usual. Service was great as usual. The last straw? Food being brought on a service tray with a thin paper on which food rested. You'll either cut right through or it will soak through. They must have decided to ditch the plastic dishes. It felt like we were eating at a fast food joint - just paying double the price. We'll take a break of coming here for a few months. Sadly.

Brian B.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar/grill/pizzeria with a neat environment: President Lincoln & pennies. Good food and service. My favorite is the BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato sandwich) with coleslaw. (Although I preferred the previous coleslaw recipe or ingredients.) The pizzas are very good too. Plus, there are usually some excellent beers on tap. There's an outdoor area & and a decent sized private dining room. I wish that they would bring back the unique & tasty walleye reubon.

Patrick K.

Yelp
Here is a nice hidden gem located in Hiawatha west of Toyota. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great selection of food. Tasty. Try it out. You'll like it!

Brita R.

Yelp
I love stopping by Lucky Penny to enjoy a beer with friendly faces. Their stuffed mushrooms appetizer and their fungi pizza are very delicious choices at Lucky Penny. Lucky Penny has a wonderful selection of craft beers on tap and in bottles (including some great gluten-free beers). The bartenders are very nice but sometimes not always completely knowledgeable about their beers on tap. I frequently play shuffleboard at Lucky Penny as well. Just give them your ID and they will give you the pieces to the shuffleboard set and when you're done playing just take the pieces back up to the bar to get your ID. Along with shuffleboard, Lucky Penny has a karaoke/photo machine that is fun to use by yourself or with friends. I fun place to stop with friends to enjoy good beer and good food.

Sam M.

Yelp
Another great restaurant. Great pizza and all the sandwiches are very good . Beef french dip is really good and lots of meat!

Reece T.

Yelp
Average in every way. I've been here often over the years and it's never been amazing but I still keep going back. I do enjoy their pizza crust. Kind of different for this area.

David J.

Yelp
Great bar, great food, great drinks. Really unique place celebrating Abe Lincoln. They have pennies laminated on the bar, tables and walls. A local artist painted pictures of famous people all with Abe's face. Funny stuff. Hailey was our server and a sweetheart. Food is great and reasonably priced. They have a shuffleboard table that is fun to play. Outside seating is nice. Our table had wings, chick tenders, salads and pizzas. All were great!

Jordan S.

Yelp
We came in with a large party, food was great and fast. Service was very prompt and handled our large group well.

Karan V.

Yelp
The ambience of the lucky penny was definitely good. I definitely liked the environment. But food up here was below average. Firstly I was going to order wings/buffalo chicken nachos but I couldn't as their oven was broken, I was ok until then. So then I had to order Chicken Salad Sandwich which was way below my expectations. In between 2 plain white slices of bread they had chicken salad stuffing, definitely not paying for that. My colleague order chicken tenders, how can you go wrong in that. It was super breaded & he was complaining of not having any chicken inside. The only positive on our table was the popper melt was good. Also our server wasn't welcoming. Sad to say this but it is over rated & over hyped. Avoid - Chicken salad sandwich & chicken tenders

Greg J.

Yelp
Returned to the Lucky Penny at lunchtime today, and I was more pleased with everything than my last visit. Was glad to see nice specials on the board, and I chose the Sriracha Bratwurst with grilled onions, swiss cheese and cream cheese. It came on a nice bun, not the store bought buns you sometimes find elsewhere. The server was very helpful, especially with my iced tea drink. On my previous visit the glass was filled with ice, making multiple refills necessary. Today the server explained that the tea was fresh brewed, so made it nicely enough so that it was chilled, but not filled with ice. I've upgraded a star, and will be back. :)

Yelp
My review is for an early dinner of cocktails and pizza. When my group entered I thought the atmosphere was kind of fun. The penny covered bar was cool and the Abe Lincoln art was interesting. We seated ourselves as no one seemed to notice us. Our server came by after a few minutes to take our drink order. We were one of the only tables inside (it was early dinner) and it took several minutes to get our drinks. We ordered two pizzas from the menu: the BLT and the BBQ pork. I recently had a BLT style wood fired pizza at Red Vespa in Solon that was amazing and knowing this Pub has a giant brick fire oven, I figured they knew how to make a good pizza. The menu makes note the pizzas cook in 5 minutes (due to the high temps). I am not sure how it took nearly 20 minutes for us to get our pizza considering we were one of the only tables and they had a full staff. But I am sorry it came out at all. I've never had pizza oven pizza like this before. The crust looked and tasted like frozen pizza dough covered in seasoning salt. It was like the kind you buy prepackaged from Pillsbury. Awful! The BBQ pork was typical bar food: BBQ pork, smothered in cheese. It is what it is. The BLT was disgusting!! They squirted mayo all over it! There were giant hunks of lettuce and big chunks of tomato top. It was like they were trying to do a taco pizza BLT style but were drunk when they conceptualized it. It was one of the most awful and confusing things I've ever tried to eat. The service started mediocre but then went down hill. We were completely forgotten with empty drink glasses - sitting around trying to catch her eye to get our bill. I might try coming back in awhile because everyone deserves a second chance, but I don't think I would ever order another pizza knowing how awful the crust turned out.

Yelp
I love that there is a casual and fun restaurant in the neighborhood. I love the fish and chips and the soft pretzel is really good, too.

Shawn H.

Yelp
We stopped in for a late lunch, first time and very glad we stopped. Great service, food got to us really fast. I love a good club sandwich and this one was a ten! I had the Buffalo tots for a side, they were tasty. My spouse had the BLT and loved it! One small issue, the side she ordered was fries, they were outstanding and enough to feed two people. Not really an issue, we will be going back very soon.

Linzi F.

Yelp
I need to make it back. I ordered the fish stuffed with crab I feel like it could have been cooked a little longer . But the reason I'm upset is it can with a seasonal vegetable and they served a pea and corn froZen bag combo with no flavor. Soo upseting knowing that I can purchase that at the store for 50- 99 cents. If they were out of something let a person know I would have gladly asked for a salad.

Scott G.

Yelp
The food is good and they have a decent selection of beers. I have to give two stars based on experience approaching the front door. Last time I was there the same trash was on the ground that was there the week before. This time there was a bunch of bird crap on the ground at the front door and the bird nest in the canopy framework overhead was deteriorating and hanging down looking like it was ready to fall on your head. If management isn't paying attention to the customer experience at the front door, I have to wonder if they are paying attention to what's behind the kitchen door. Update 1 month later: Back today and not sure if anyone there is reading this or cares. What do I see on my way to the front door? A glass out by the patio that has been there so long it's growing algae. On the upside, the bird nest over the door is gone - however, at this point given the demonstrated lack of interest in the customer experience I suspect it fell down and was not intentionally cleaned up. 3 hour later update: Here's a photo of the plate we were given to eat the appetizer. My concern is confirmed. Current state of the bar ... You decide!

Yelp
After a hectic day and no time for food prep, we were searching for a place nearby that, (A) we had never been to before and (B) scored well on Yelp. Off to The Lucky Penny... Interior tastefully decorated, clean and gives you a confident feeling that this might be good. Menu pretty diverse and appealing to the masses. Beer selection is decent enough although I'm not a big craft brew fan. The food...awesome! Service...equally as good! Really enjoyed this experience and can see myself coming back fairly frequently.

Sean W.

Yelp
Impressive menu all around. All the wood fire pizzas are great as well as the build-your-own. The entrees, apps, and specials all make me want to try each and every one. They even have Sausage Foundry for items which is a plus. Everything is priced decently. First visit we got the buffalo chicken nachos are real good and will be getting again. As well as the chicken pesto pizza and one build-your-own. Good options, and great wood fire crust on the pies. The beer and drink menu is pretty good as well. Good atmosphere and staff was friendly and attentive. I will be returning to try various other menu items (like the grilled cheese and Sausage Foundry meat tubes).

Melissa C.

Yelp
"Whatever you are, be a good one" - Abraham Lincoln. This bar's atmosphere centers around one of the greatest president of the USA... Lincoln portraits everywhere and a bar top made of pennies ! We came in after work for drinks and pizza. There were maybe 15 people there with only one server thus the service was very slow...this the reason for the reduction of a star. The drink variety and food variety was great though - lots of Locally brewed beers. The carnivore pizza was delicious - wood fired and made with locally sourced meats! Will definitely come back!!

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Not a great experience! Served gluten free pizza and tried to pass it off as hand tossed. The steak frites was a joke. Their norm is to cut it up into little pieces, over cooked and under portioned. Shocking that they want 19 bucks for something that looked and tasted like McDonald's version of steak frites. Italians would be applaud by their version of Italian beef. It came out crispy edged dried out chipped beef without any au jus, or cheese on top. I wouldn't have fed it to an abandoned dog. We won't be going back and really wanted to like this place. The manager took care of the situation and waitress was wonderful - too bad the main ingredient is missing, decent food!! Left feeling like we found a very unlucky penny.

Nick B.

Yelp
Sports bar atmosphere. I've only ordered hamburgers here. I was very happy with them. Hamburger came with tater tots. That was fun. I would go back again.

Julie S.

Yelp
Another great experience! This time had the spicy chicken pizza....Loved it! And want to support small local businesses!

Shannon M.

Yelp
Yelped "full bars near me" and ended up here. What a delight! The food was great. My wine was fresh and above par and the crowd was friendly! Staff went out of their way to make my experience memorable. Cheers to Tuesday! This place made my day!!!

Lori C.

Yelp
Let some friends here for an outing. The atmosphere is interesting and up beat. Our service was very attentive and good. The food however left a little to be desired. I had the wood fore pizza. There was a nice selection of choices including what type sauce you'd like...tomato, pesto, garlic oil cheese. You can also choose from an assortment of cheeses. I ordered what I like and when it came it looked delicious aside from the fact that the toppings seemed to be concentrated in the middle with some slices having none at all. I found it all rather bland. The tomato sauce was very bland and a little sweet for me. I prefer a nice deep tomato flavor. It was not inedible just lacking. The others in the group had salad and one other had pizza and she felt the same as I did. I would try it again as the place is interesting and I liked it, but not for pizza

Jody R.

Yelp
Really enjoyed their patio this summer and early fall! But now that the cold weather is here I'll be ordering their home made chicken and rice soup more fine. Their pizzas are wonderful, BLT and Carnivore are my favorites. We discovered that the tater tots are the side to order instead of the fries. They make awesome burgers and many of their entrees are winners too. Their salad selection is disappointing and shows little imagination though. My one pet peeve is they don't seem to try for create visually appealing dishes. Check out the blah look of the fettuccini alfredo, spinach salad, and even the chicken and rice soup. C'mon folks. We really like this place and want to see it really do well.

Matt I.

Yelp
Very unexpected gem! The pizza was VERY fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. The menu is small, but good enough for everyone to find something. I had the soup of the day (Chicken and Rice) and it was like my mom used to make. SO GOOD! Their beer list looked impressive, too. I will definitely be coming back! I want to try their very interesting dessert choices! DO NOT come in here expecting to get PIZZA HUT or other chain-style pizza. Theirs is unique and much more fresh! You can create your own with their cool ingredients, as well.

Phil P.

Yelp
Decided to come and try it again. We walked in, greeted warmly, and seated right away. Our server was fast and friendly. I opted for the Jambalaya - it was the soup of the day. Perfect for a cold, windy day. Holy cow was it good! Come on in and get you some great grub!

GV S.

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff and a very inviting atmosphere. All the food is yummy; We've always enjoyed our dining experience and with a good bar you can go wrong.

Lane H.

Yelp
I was really primed to right a harsh review of the most recent "hipster" (Whatever happened to calling them yuppies?) establishment. This is not that review. Because it wasn't pretentious. It wasn't overpriced. The food was good and there were a few quirky things to make this menu different then the Applebee's/Chili's/Knock-offs down the block. So we decided to go out to eat on a Friday. Just the husband and I, the kids were left to fend for themselves. I was worried that a slightly newer spot on a Friday would be to busy to get in. Parked and went in, sure enough, there was a wait. Only 15 minutes they told us, so we grabbed the one available chair at the bar and I sat down. We were instantly waited upon by a sweetheart of a bartender. She was smiling and personable (I failed to get her name) and brought us our drinks in short order. The nice thing about our spot at the bar was we could watch the pizza's baking in the stone oven. Glad to see the prep being done with gloves on. We were offered a table, but since there were only two of us and it was a six-top table, we told them to take the four people behind us. We had another drink and chatted with the bartenders a bit. Our second Guinness had a clover drawn in the foam! Nice touch!! A few minutes later, a table became available and we were seated. Again, very friendly server taking care of us. Ordered the jalapeno poppers as an appetizer and a burger and a pizza for meal. The appetizer came out quickly. Halved jalapenos with cream cheese filling and served with slices of toasted baguette. The baguette seemed a little too toasted and crumbled when you bit into it. The black and blue burger and the chicken pesto pizza were great. The burger was cooked perfectly to a medium rare and the bleu cheese had the perfect creamy bite to it. The pizza had a slightly thin crust and was delicious. There wasn't much in the way of chicken on this pizza and to be quite honest, I was glad. The chicken tasted bland and dry and didn't do a thing to make this a better product. Again, the pizza was very favorable. All in all, this was a great place to visit and my husband has said that this is the best burger he has had in a long time! Great job Lucky Penny. We hope to see you again soon.

Mahar C.

Yelp
Love this place!! And they have the best gluten free crust pizzas around. Yum! Great service and staff. Lots of parking. My "go-to" favorite.

David W.

Yelp
First visit. The environment is nice. We had: Buffalo Chicken Nachos, chicken had a funny texture and flavor was okay. Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, really bad, no crap, all filling. Bruschetta, was okay, I think they are trying for a "different flavor" and they got it. Pizza was very tasty. Good service. Value was okay. Returning??????........maybe

Hunter H.

Yelp
Lucky Penny was a fantastic experience! My girlfriend, mother, and I went for a nice lunch on a Saturday afternoon! We entered the Lucky Penny and it had its own interesting ambience. We were waited at our table quickly and received great service! We ordered our food and played shuffleboard for free while we waited for our food to arrive! I ordered a burger (can't remember the proper name) that had Swiss cheese, grilled pineapple, and a teriyaki glaze! It was fantastic! Cooked to perfection! My girlfriend had a delectable Italian beef sandwich which she said was fantastic! Great place to be!

Molly R.

Yelp
I would like to start off by saying bad service is better than no service. Which is what we had the only two people at the bar. Had to wait with empty drinks finally flag down the bartender who is very busy flirting with the waitresses and eating soup. Food was served by Cooks. who were both very nice personable and made very nice food. Finally after waiting and waiting and waiting had to embarrass myself and the bartender by yelling across the bar for him to finish his soup so we could get our check. left a 10% tip which was 10% more than he deserved want him to be aware that this was because of his bad service. Not because I'm cheap. I've been in this food industry for over 35 years and this might have been the worst service I've ever had

Eli C.

Yelp
Great pizza! Food is great and the ambiance is nice. Very clean. They have a shuffle board and their bar has pennies as its top!

Hilary E.

Yelp
I love the selection of food Lucky Penny has to offer without having a massive menu. The drinks are good, the food is tasty, and the atmosphere is laid back but fun. Definitely going to be a regular spot for me!

Zacharia H.

Yelp
The decor is creative, but the Abraham Lincoln celebrity mash up paintings were a bit creepy. The service was fine, our waitress was friendly. I ordered the steak frites, my girlfriend got the Italian beef. The food was adequate, if a touch pricey. Overall though, just nothing that would bring me back.

Mike H.

Yelp
First trip to the new neighborhood bar and grill. Nice atmosphere. Had an amazing BLT with a fried egg. They inherited a fancy pizza oven from the previous tenant, and while the pictures and ingredients sounded great, I wasn't super impressed with the margherita pizza. Looked and tasted like a regular cheese pizza with a few basil leaves sprinkled on it. Disappointing, because it would be a great oven to make a traditional margherita with tomato slices and fresh mozzarella. I'm sure we'll be back, since we can easily walk here, and there are many other things on the menu I would like to try.

Leslie B.

Yelp
We love the Lucky Penny! The pizza is great at a great price and the service is fast and friendly. It is a regular spot for us!!

Katie B.

Yelp
We had a really great experience today at lunch at Lucky Penny. Our pizza was fantastic - between my husband, two young kids, and I, we split a Quattro Formaggio pizza and a Build Your Own Pizza with fresh mozzarella and pepperoni and sausage. We have more than enough leftovers for a couple of lunches, so I'd say it was a really great value. There wasn't much of an after-church crowd like we thought there might be, so we received prompt service and were in and out of there in less than an hour - pretty good for a sit-down restaurant that serves made to order pizzas. We will definitely be back and tell all our friends to try out Lucky Penny!

Haley W.

Yelp
We were looking for good beer and good pizza. And luckily we stumbled upon both. I had the hot Italian beef which was amazing! The fries were fresh and hot. Husband got the carnivore which was satisfying. If we had one knock, the pizza is a bit over seasoned with a lot of oregano. It kind of overtook the pizza. Other than that, the happy house was great, and there were LOTS of beers on tap. Overall, great experience and we will return to take advantage of the patio seating.

Rachel G.

Yelp
The atmosphere is the main room is nice, the side room is a bit loud & crowded. The food was OK... The first time I was here I tried the pulled pork sandwich and tots, it was good but nothing to write home about. The next time I tried the meat pizza it just tasted sort of blah. Most of the tap beer was out of order and condensation from the AC handler was dripping on the floor/walkway by our table. My father ordered the wings (an appetizer), we were told they no longer had traditional wings, they were a larger size wing so you would get 6 instead of 12. When the 'wings' came out, it was apparent they were chicken legs. This was very odd and it appeared the waitress had no idea the difference between chicken legs and chicken wings. I had higher expectations for this place, hoping it will improve.
