"Since George and Peggy Brown opened Lucky Wishbone in 1955, it’s remained a postwar Anchorage institution, serving up white cardboard boxes of sizzling thighs and drums, fries, and corn muffins with honey and melty butter, all passed through the passenger-side window in the retro drive-thru. George built the restaurant himself and could regularly be found among the green vinyl booths until 2018, when he died at age 96. The fried chicken, made according to a family recipe that dates back at least 100 years, is done country-style — flour-breaded, lightly seasoned, and oil-fried — and offered alongside other throwback classics like fist-size burgers, homemade shakes, and piping-hot fried chicken livers in a paper-lined basket." - Eater Staff

Great family atmosphere. The walls tell a story of the passion and love on starting and running a successful business. Great food and service. Shakes are the best around. You have to try their pan Chicken. Will be returning over and over again. Thanks

If you ever find yourself in Anchorage, you absolutely have to visit the Lucky Wishbone. I stopped by on a recent trip, and let’s just say I might need to buy bigger pants. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I had discovered a hidden gem. The classic Americana atmosphere immediately put me at ease, and the friendly staff made me feel like I was a regular. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Heidi, who was fantastic and incredibly nice. She made sure everything was perfect and chatted with me like we were old friends. I couldn’t resist starting with the fried chicken, and oh my goodness, it was a revelation. Crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection – I devoured every last piece, barely coming up for air. Then, because I clearly have no self-control when it comes to amazing food, I tackled one of their burgers. It was everything a burger should be: juicy patty, fresh toppings, and a bun that held it all together like a champ. I’m pretty sure I made a mess, but it was so worth it. By the end of my meal, I was stuffed to the brim, but ridiculously happy. There’s something special about Lucky Wishbone that goes beyond the food. It’s like a warm hug from the past, with comfort food that makes you feel at home. So, if you're ever in Anchorage, do yourself a favor and drop by Lucky Wishbone. Just be prepared to eat more than you planned – and love every bite of it. And if you’re lucky enough to meet Heidi, you’ll understand why this place is so special.

Great shakes, and their chilly cheese fries are outstanding. The only thing we didn't like was the onion rings. Breading was bland and fell off easily. We didn't order one, but their salads look unreal

Visited the Lucky Wishbone and very impressed with fried chicken and corn muffins which are delicious from the way it done in the southern US, also had a true taste of of their shake which had strawberry, blueberry and raspberry mixed together and it was delicious. Recommend to stop by and check out the Lucky Wishbone and promise you will not be disappointed, glad we got to taste one of Anchorage very best 👍

We came about 1 hour before closing, and it wasn't busy at all. The service was very good and she kept our drinks filled. The wings were soooo good but also very filling. The chili was amazing, and the friend chicken was delicious. Definitely recommend gettin some onion rings for an appetizer bc the whole table loved them. Overall, it was a very good choice of dinner plans. Wasn't expensive either. Nice peaceful atmosphere right in the middle of town.

An old Anchorage gem. I have had the chicken sandwich and that is the best. The chicken pieces are decent as well. Hands down the best milkshakes in the city however!! Great selection to choose from and they are so good!!! I go here to go or just for the shakes at times!! Seriously the best!! You will be in love!! In the photo is cherry and salted caramel flavor.

We moved to AK in 2002 and were told about how good the chicken was at the Lucky Wishbone. Apparently, we've been missing out! My wife and I had the Mom/Dad baskets, one with fries and the other with coleslaw. We also had the Sourdough Mining Company corn fritters with honey butter. We miss the Sourdough restaurant, but the fritters and honey butter were really good here. The chicken was great as it was juicy, lightly breaded, and not overly greasy. The fries and slaw were ok, with the slaw being different than any I have ever eaten. It had a creamy texture and taste that I cannot place. Sort of like a frozen yogurt kind of sweetness. The service was fantastic. All the servers had each other's back and ours did a wonderful job. Maybe a sign of the times, but it seems like our meal was on the pricier side, although not by much. Despite the price point, we enjoyed our meal and will return a lot sooner than 22 years!
