Luckycat - Review - Lakeview - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Luckycat started as a coffee pop-up, but now has a cafe in Lakeview. And aside from caffeinated concoctions like miso maple lattes and matcha lattes with osmanthus and wildflower honey, they havebreakfast sandwicheswith chili crisp and gruyere, braised chicken rice bowls, and more. Luckycat also has some sweets, like basque cheesecake and hojicha white chocolate cookies." - John Ringor

Google
Just found my new favorite hangout spot in Chicago! We ordered the sesame latte and cortado for drink. Love the sesame + coffee combo is so unique and honestly unlike anything I’ve try at other coffee store in the city. Also highly recommend their house-made cheesecake. Not overly sweet, perfectly creamy with great serving volume. There are seatings and WiFi available at the store making it great place to chatting with friends and lock in for work. Definitely planning comes by more often!

Google
The matcha had a nice vibrant green color which is always a good sign. The matcha is mellow not overpowering not too little, just right! Their sesame chia pudding was also good. Love the coconut chips in there, added texture to the dessert. Overall worth the trip. Last Photo: my windshield is tinted so made the matcha color look dull, it actually looks vibrant green

Loved this coffee shop! The space is modern, beautifully designed, and instantly welcoming. I ordered a coffee and a croissant — both were excellent. The coffee was rich and smooth, and the croissant was perfectly flaky and buttery. The staff was very friendly and made the experience even better. Such a great addition to the neighborhood — I’m excited to come back again soon.

I’m so happy to finally have a coffee shop I look forward to visiting in the neighborhood! The latte and the drip coffee were on point, their breakfast sandwich was to die for, and pastries from La Boulangerie were fresh and crisp. The staff were friendly and attentive. The ambience was warm and minimalistic, a perfect place to relax or get work done. Definitely coming back and highly recommending!!

A new establishment recently opened in Lakeview. I initially discovered it on Indeed.com and subsequently noticed it on TikTok. Following its opening, it appeared that many people were visiting for the matcha. Although I am not a regular consumer of matcha, I do occasionally enjoy it. Consequently, I decided to visit here for trying the coffee. I ordered a beverage, and it was quite enjoyable. It exceeded my expectations, as I had some concerns that the flavor might be too intense. They have certainly managed that aspect well. Unfortunately, the pastries were already sold out when I arrived, which was disappointing because I was looking forward to trying them. However, it is not a problem; I intend to return because the coffee left a positive impression, being a good, decent, and delicious coffee that I needed. The atmosphere there seems pleasant, in my opinion. I only wish there were more people there to socialize than to work on computers.

Google
Strong, flavorful matcha and delicious, creative Asian-inspired lattes! Recommend trying the mala mocha: it is reminiscent of mapo tofu (in a good way) balanced perfectly with cocoa and espresso. Solid breakfast sandwich on a buttery bun. Only wish they had more seats!

Google
i visited to work from home here on a weekday and tried the radiant latte. it was really really good. the ginger flavor was strong, but blends seamlessly with the latte. I will definitely return in the future. the playlist was also immaculate on the 3 hours I was there!!! the only complaint is that the cafe is located on a busy street, so it can get loud if the door is opened.

Google
The iced black sesame cold brew is refreshing and the coffee tastes super clean, not overly sweet or bitter. We may have a new best breakfast sandwich in Chicago. Perfect ratio of thick bacon, insanely good egg and gruyere cheese. The bun with the hot honey chili crisp makes it a perfectly sweet and savory. The matcha was excellent, not overly earthy like matcha can be.

Yelp
I came across LUCKYCAT on my TikTok feed and decided to treat myself to a beverage on a particularly rainy day. When I came in on a Wednesday late morning, it was decently full. They have a few tables, but it isn't a huge space--I could definitely see seating being an issue. However, I managed to find a spot and they do have Wi-Fi, so I was thankfully able to get some work done! I quite enjoyed my drink. I went with the Warm Sweater Matcha. I love both cardamom and matcha but had never tried the combination of the two flavors. Upon first sip, I was pleasantly surprised; they complemented each other so well, and it was such a perfect fall drink. I still think the matcha could have been stronger, but it definitely was better than other matcha spots I've tried in Chicago! They had some yummy-looking food items on the menu, so I will hopefully be back soon to try those out. Definitely adding LUCKYCAT to my list of Chicago cafes!

Yelp
Luckycat is such a welcomed addition to the neighborhood! This corner has a lot of big name stores around it, so seeing a local coffee shop is such a breath of fresh air. The inside is really cute (and tiny!) every seat when filled, so if you're looking to get some work done definitely come a little bit early to snag a seat. I went with the coconut cloud cold brew. So yummy!! The coconut cold foam isn't overly sweet, but it balances the bitterness of the cold brew really nicely. I definitely need to come back to try the miso maple latte -- it sounds delicious!

Yelp
This is my first time here, and I got their breakfast sandwich with bacon and their matcha latte. The breakfast sandwich was very good! I loved the sweetness from the bacon since it paired well with the fluffy bread and egg. The matcha latte wasn't too bad; it was lacking a bit of sweetness and not my favorite. The service was very nice though! The cashier recommended me stuff, and she told me about the drinks. The ambiance is very aesthetically pleasing and nice! I'd definitely come here to do work or relax for a coffee session. I'll say that the breakfast sandwich is a little pricey for what you get, but it's very tasty! And the drink prices aren't back for a spot like this! I'd definitely come back to try their other drinks!

Yelp
Breakfast sandwich with thick cut bacon was fantastic, the bun was freshly toasted and the hot honey mindblown Their matcha is also one of the best I've had in the city - matcha flavor was strong

Yelp
I was really excited to try this spot because I had gone in with seeing a post about the matcha here being a 9 out of 10, and it hits a spot after a few sips. Aesthetics of this spot- 10/10. I love the wood touches and finishings, and also such a contrast to everything going on outside. Felt like you were whisked away to another place, another city when you stepped in. The popular drink is the miso latte which I wasn't bold enough to try. I went with the autumnal seasonal matcha drink and found that the cardamom was overpowering when the matcha itself was so subtle and rich. The classic latte would be a solid 4.5/5 for the vanilla bean and coffee combo in a hot drink for when it's windy and chilly out. Would try again another time and be bold enough for the miso drink!

Yelp
I got the breakfast sandwhich, luckycat cookie, and gaowen tea. The hot honey chilly crisp oil made the sandwhich so good with the hint of sweetness. The bun was also good. The cookie was okay. A little too sweet with the amount of chocolate chips, wish the miso flavor was a little stronger. The gaowen tea was pleasant too - I usually like black teas. There are about 5-6 tables. Good space to do work. The main feedback I have is I wish there was a clearer display of a menu somewhere, instead of only finally being able to look at it when at the front of the line and feeling rushed to pick something. Overall nice to try. I would come back to do work or try other items.

Yelp
I was excited to try this new cafe and the interior is beautiful! Nice neutral wood tones, but I love the green tile on the bar. There is a row of seating for more small groups. I'm a matcha girlie through and through, but I also love black sesame and the staff gave me the genius idea to go a little off-menu for a matcha black sesame. The matcha was really smooth and th tea shined through, plus I enjoyed the nuttiness of the black sesame shining through. I did sub for oat milk was well which is an additional charge which is normal to most places now. I also ordered the Breakfast sandwich which was especially delicious! It feels like an elevated breakfast sandwich with the flavor profile. The egg was soft and I want that hot honey chili crisp on everything! Looking forward to coming back and trying coffee options and more menu items! The chia pudding is calling my name for next time.

Yelp
So happy Lucky Cat opened up in the neighborhood! The space is adorable!!! It's cozy, clean, and super aesthetically pleasing. The vibe feels warm and welcoming, and everyone working there just seemed genuinely happy to be there. I tried the Autumn Sweater Matcha (had a nice hint of cardamom) and the Sweet Bloom Matcha Latte with macadamia milk loved the subtle osmanthus flavor (my fav) . The matcha itself tasted authentic, and you can tell the baristas/cashiers all enjoyed working there and they spent time to do latte art for us! I'm just so happy to see another mom and pop coffee shop to open up in the neighborhood, north Chicago doesn't have enough cafes imo. Esp stoked that it specializes in tea and matcha type drinks

Yelp
It's a cool new coffee spot in the neighborhood. I was very excited to try. The service was great - nice people working there. The cold brew was delicious (very strong actually! I felt jittery for a while after drinking- just an fyi- but still it was worth it). The only reason why I took a star off was because of the pastry selection. It was very limited and not in line with the overall theme of the cafe. Plus for la Boulangerie pastries, which we all know how much it costs, the mark up was on a higher side than other cafes that sell them (plain croissant was $6 I believe?). Also given the theme of the cafe, I thought there would be some cool Asian inspired or matcha flavored pastries which was not the case and didn't live up to the expectation

Yelp
So glad a matcha place opened near me!! I feel like the quality of matcha at coffeeshops in general has fallen recently, however I'm never disappointed when I come to Lucky Cat! Every time I come I get something different, but I really enjoy the flavored matcha drinks with the macadamia nut milk. The servers are always very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The cafe itself is so cute, and plenty of seating for studying or working remotely. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a cafe and a good matcha in the area!!

Yelp
Really enjoyed this friendly Asian-inspired coffee shop! Loved the aesthetics the moment I walked in -- clean, modern, and cozy at the same time. We tried quite a few drinks: an iced matcha latte with osmanthus, iced black sesame latte, iced radiant latte (with Taiwan black sugar and ginger), Kyoto-style cold brew with coconut cold foam, and a hot classic latte. Everything was delicious! While the coconut foam didn't pair perfectly with the deep, dark Kyoto-style cold brew, the iced matcha and rich, hearty hot classic latte were standouts. The radiant latte tasted like an Asian milk tea-meets-coffee combo in a good way. Also loved the breakfast Sammy -- the bread and the sweet-and-sour sauce were the highlights. Highly recommend adding bacon for some extra crunch and meaty texture.

Yelp
Great Iced Latte. Beautiful, modern and earthy interior design. Friendly and quick service. Hopefully I get to try more items and make a more well rounded review. But definitely want to come back and would recommend this place to others!

Yelp
food: i got the signature latte was good but not worth its price, can get similar coffee for cheaper. the breakfast sandwich was special though and was very good. i liked the glaze they used service: staff was nice, things came out fast ambiance: not a ton of room but i enjoy the interior, gets pretty busy so will be loud

Yelp
Cute , urban vibe, modern coffee spot. Skip the Starbucks across the street and give this place a try for something more unique and modern. Good latte , good coffee, interesting pastries and menu items .

Yelp
A great addition to the neighborhood, Lucky Cat offers unique coffee options, breakfast items, and local pastries. We came here on a Sunday morning to study and get some work done. It is a smaller location so there wasn't many spots, but we were lucky enough to find one. We tried: - Black Sesame Latte - Sweet Bloom Matcha Latte - Breakfast Sandwich - Chocolate Hazelnut Muffin The coffee was flavorful, the sesame came through nicely. I'm not a fan of matcha but was told the sweetness helped. The breakfast sandwich was very tasty, the hot honey chili crisp was a nice touch. I'll definitely come back!

Yelp
Cute, cozy cafe. I've walked by and missed it before. Coconut cold brew was disappointing but the traditional latte was excellent. Service was great. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Amazing Radiant coffee, the ginger flavor was delicious! I have also had the breakfast sandwich and I love the addition of chili crisp. The black sesame coffee and the sweet bloom matcha was very rich and flavorful. Small space, but the area is homey and baristas are very kind and know their craft.

Yelp
I got a black sesame latte iced with oat milk. This was almost $9. There was limited to no black sesame flavor. The layout was not efficient which had the line out the door with just 3 people in line. This is a cute space but not enough seating room and you are definitely paying for the aesthetic. I was also surprised that this coffee shop did not have half-decaf option and that their milk substitute options were an additional $1.

Yelp
Drinks: 4.5/5 We got the autumn matcha latte and Osmanthus. They were delicious and the ratio of matcha to milk is perfect. It wasn't too sweet which I find rare. Overall the matcha is standard but doesn't blow me away. Service:5/5 Fast and friendly, good recommendations. Ambiance:4/5 Good luck finding a seat. Limited indoor space. It is cute inside. You will touch elbows with the person next to you.

Yelp
The staff is very approachable and friendly. They were accommodating to make special accommodations for milk alternatives, such as an option for macadamia milk instead of 2% or oat. The space is warm and welcoming to get some work done or catch up with friends.

Joshua S.

Yelp
Great coffee, both in the specialty drinks and the drip coffee, which I appreciate. Their breakfast sandwich is really delicious as well

Yelp
Such a fantastic addition to the neighborhood! A beautiful space to hang out with a few friends. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and unique, the cortado was one of the best I've had in the city. And the staff is so nice and welcoming. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for yummy drinks and small bites!
