Lucky's Breakfast is really a gem. Lucky himself really does run the whole place single-handedly, from taking your order, cooking, and serving. I have so much respect for what he does.
The menu is simple with just a few options- a two-eggs breakfast, omelette, French toast, or pancakes, and you can choose to add bacon or sausage. For drinks, the options are coffee and OJ. There is only counter seating, and the decor/music played are old-timey. Due to the seating arrangement, many of the guests from separate parties make small talk with one another, lending to a sense of community.
The food, while simple, is good (especially for the very affordable price) and tastes like home. The toast had a good crunch to it with jam provided, Tabasco was available at the table for my eggs and hash browns, and most importantly, the generous portion of bacon was cooked crispy! At the end of your meal, you get a few fortune cookies.
Lucky seems like a great man who is loved by his community, and his business seems to have a lot of regulars (and first-timers, too!). The environment in here is quaint and feels sort of like a time capsule to the past.
I heard that Lucky may be retiring soon, so don't miss your chance to visit if this sounds like your cup of tea! It feels like a little piece of San Diego history.
