"Lucky’s bills itself as a haven for comfort food lovers and a comfortable space to be in. It trades in retro, with a big neon sign, big booths that evoke that ‘50s diner feel, and a checkerboard floor. It serves breakfast all day in classic diner style, including a mean bowl of grits and pancakes. And it sources from many local farmers in Texas for everything from its bread and butter pickles to its butterfat ice cream." - Courtney E. Smith

"This throwback diner serves good old-fashioned comfort foods, including chicken-fried steak or chicken with hot buttery cornbread. Get some southern charm with a side of rustic mashed potatoes smothered in creamy gravy. As you sit down to look at the menu, peer up to see where patrons made donations to sign the preserved wall benefiting the Resource Center, which played a crucial role in prevention and treatment during the AIDS crisis." - Charity Chukwu

The way we were received was not friendly at all, we weren’t even greeted just taken to a seat and given menus to get it out of the way. I understand that sometimes when a place gets busy the employees also get overwhelmed but that’s no excuse to not give everyone the best treatment possible. That was my main issue. This place seems to be very popular and they should be used to the rush… On the other hand, the waiter was fine. The food was good, in quality and flavor. I liked the complimentary biscuits and cornbread. The deviled eggs and the creamed corn were my least favorite.

Google
In Dallas for my infusion treatment, so the wife and I were looking to get some great food. We found it looking up restaurants. I'm so glad we chose to stop in for a bite. Had fried mushrooms, jalapeno loud puppies I highly recommend trying them, I had the build your own omelette with grits, the grits we're a great choice. My wife had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts. She said the chicken fried steak was very delicious. If you're ever in the area I say swing in and grab a bite. Breakfast is served all day. Also the waiter was very attentive to all of our needs. Had to get the French toast to go. It was some great French toast.

I had the post roast. Tasty and a good size portion. The bread that it comes with I didn't care for. Service wasn't very attentive. The atmosphere is what you expect from a cafe, but just add a bar. Oh, my happy hour drink was delicious, but I can't recall the name of it.

Google
I was in Dallas for the day and found this jewel 💎. We could barely find parking bc the place was packed by locals. I love mom and pops places and this is one. It’s a true farm to table establishment. Try this place if you get a chance…

Google
The food and service were good and the staff super friendly ...I think this was the best chicken and waffle that I have had, and the gravy was very good. The place has a comforting feel to it. Staff was so nice that they gave me a free biscuit to try and it was very fluffy and delicious.

Google
Good coffee, great mimosa, excellent service. It's a whole vibe. I'm glad I followed other recommendations. The food is fresh, straightforward, and a food value. Meant to take pic at the start of the meal...whoops... enchiladas and eggs.

Google
#JoeFoodTour step back into time into a classic diner! The food is super yummy with lots of local farm to table options. Cheesy grits and the sausage are a must to get. The fundraising mural has been around since 1996. #HowdyFromHouston #ThePropertyJoes #LivingLifeInHouston #Dallas

Google
The food was outstanding with a friendly service. Celeste suggested the heavenly potato soup which was perfect for the rainy day. The staff was happy, smiling, and keeping busy. Vegan and vegetarian options were available, and farm-to-table food made it even better. The delicious meatloaf only needed a bigger portion of mashed potatoes. Overall, it is one of the favorites now.

Yelp
Today was the day golf was rained out so off to Lucky's. After seeing the Sleaziest Cheesiest Grilled Cheese presentation on Fox 4 we had to try it. We walked in an was greeted by the gentlemen at the bar , they were busy, we took a table. Marvin was our waiter and he was very nice and prompt with greeting us and taking our orders. We looked at the menu and well we ordered the Grilled Cheese and Whole Chicken and Waffle, fries with the grilled cheese. The food came promptly and we dove in. WOW the grilled cheese held up to its expectations. The chicken and waffles like wise we loved our meals. We had a free slice of Cake for our first visit there from an email my wife had and it was a Chocolate cake!!!!!mmmmmmmmm Wow we had one taste and could not wait to get home to finish it!!! The cafe seemed very busy but relaxing for the walls were fun to read from the graffiti which we loved. Cannot wait to go back , being from Dallas I cannot remember ever going there ??? Thanks Marvin for great service!!!

Yelp
I have had good and so-so here, however, I just ordered the Pot Roast with a side of Whipped Potatoes via Uber Eats...it is delicious! And...piping HOT! Flavorful, moist and absolutely fantastic! The chef/cooks provided enough gravy to soak the toasted bread in to sop up all of the flavor. Enough for 3 meals for me. First time having this dish and now it is my FAV! Give it a whirl!

Yelp
Location Central Oaklawn. Parking Street Atmosphere Clean diner Service Immediate, friendly-great job! Personable. Menu Awesome farm to table items-I love how they list the farms they get items from. We had the americana-although it was hard to choose from all the selections-yes it all looks yum! The banana conac pancakes and variety of hashes look so enticing. The biscuits and corn muffins are complimentary. The corn muffins are so delicate and delish! Real butter on the table and local honey! The toast us AMAZING-beautiful! The bacon was crispy and not greasy-generous portion. The sausage patties are large and juicy. The eggs-over medium-also cooked perfectly-not greasy or overly salted. When I declined grits and potatoes, the server immediately offered tomatoes-love that! Tomatoes are red and ripe. My friend had the grits and said they were creamy and smooth-not watery. Summary Awesome local upscale diner-join the club! Great locally sourced food, menu with tons of choices, outstanding service! Love this place!! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Wanted something different and decided to get the liver & onions plate and I'm glad I did. It was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. Service was fast and friendly . Plenty of parking available. The corn bread and rolls are always delicious.

Matea P.

Yelp
The food here is really not that great. We only came here to meet with some friends, but the food is meh and I found a hair on my potatoes (which I had them take back and they replaced the potatoes (which was good)...but still)

Belle R.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely, quick lunch at Luckys Cafe. The server was kind and efficient. He brought water, took our drink order, and was back shortly with biscuits and cornbread to take our food order. The food came out almost immediately and I enjoyed the blackened catfish, roasted broccoli, and roasted brussels sprouts. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and the pricing was reasonable considering the area. I'm sure we will be back again!

Yelp
I was expecting a grimy diner, but this was actually a really great brunch spot! The ambience is fun and lively! It feels like a lot of Oaklawn locals, both in the clientele and the staff. Even though it was super busy, we didn't have to wait long for a table. I ordered the spinach eggs Benedict and it was delicious! The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the biscuits were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken eggs Benedict and also really enjoyed his. They make the biscuits in-house and bring them to your table before your food comes -- absolutely delish. One of the best parts about going here is that the wait really makes you feel welcome and taken care of. I loved our waiters and everyone seems to be enjoying working there

Stephen O.

Yelp
Best local diner. Service is great. Food is good & reliable though a menu update would be nice.

Moriah D.

Yelp
Came to Lucky's for brunch with some friends! It was soooo packed, we waited about 25 minutes to be seated which was great. The atmosphere was definitely high energy and I enjoyed it. The basket of warm bread that they bring for the table was soooo good! The homemade honey was amazing on my biscuit. I was shocked that they didn't have homemade jam/jelly, since they really promote local entities for their provisions. I also got the pineapple mimosa carafe, no complaints there. For my meal, I got the Enchiladas & egg entree. I don't know who thought of this combination but they deserve an award! It was soooooo delicious. The waffle was awesome as well, it came with a cinnamon butter that was to die for. Follow me for more (IG & TikTok): @MissMo2323

Yelp
I had not been to Luckys in years but had fond memories of the place. We were sat in a booth and they brought us biscuits and gravy while we waited for our food. We shared the pancakes with the cinnamon brown sugar butter which was divine, Migas and Veggie Benny. Also, we ordered a mimosa carafe our server brought us many juices (orange, cranberry, grapefruit, etc.) to mix with it . My friend who I was dining with is a vegetarian so she appreciated all the vegetarian options.

Kelley H.

Yelp
Super cute diner! Super yummy! Very healthy and organic choices- all locally sourced. There's a board that shows where all the ingredients were sourced from. During the week- you seat yourself and during the weekend there's a hostess to help seat. There's always tons of people waiting on the weekend but the wait always is so quick (15 mins max). The parking is kinda limited- few spots out front and all parking lot in the back. But overall great !

Rocky S.

Yelp
The food and service were good and the staff super friendly ...I think this was the best chicken and waffle that I have had, and the gravy was very good. The place has a comforting feel to it. Staff was so nice that they gave me a free biscuit to try and it was very fluffy and delicious.

Laura R.

Yelp
Turkey bacon is inedible. It does not seem like a lot of care and attention goes into the breakfast.

Ken G.

Yelp
We have been going to Luckys for 15+ years for breakfast. We used to go quite a bit when we lived at Southside but not so much since we moved to the country. I have gotten to go there several times in the last couple of weeks. It's been a real treat the quality of the food and the service is still beyond anything I can find in the central Dallas area. Ask for biscuits before you start. Eat them plain with butter or like I do butter and strawberry jam. Ask for a pancake on the side, you can split it if you want, it's pretty big. I stay away from the cinnamon butter they give you and just use butter and syrup. I hope you get a chance... it will reset your standard.

Dustin U.

Yelp
Great little dinner. The food is good, service is attentive, and there isn't usually a wait. If you're looking for traditional dinner food in this area, you'd be hard pressed to find a better location.

Cat N.

Yelp
The juevos ranchero is the freaking bomb!!!! It was all texture and flavor! It was savory, crunchy, soft, all in one! I highly recommend it! I got it to go and it was still crunchy when I got home.

Markeye B.

Yelp
We went to Lucky Cafe for brunch in Dallas, Texas, and it was an amazing experience. The retro theme adds a charming touch, and the service was friendly. The food was simply fantastic, with a great variety to choose from. Don't miss this gem!

Tanaka B.

Yelp
Not the fanciest of places but definitely what I would expect a Diner to be. Good attentive service. Better than average diner food. Great story about the names written on the upper walls.

Auvern E.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service. Great ambience. The build your own omelette is outstanding.

Jamie N.

Yelp
By far one of the coolest places you can eat at in Dallas! Service is so friendly. The restaurant itself is very nostalgic and fun. Full bar and they have the best fresh fried beer battered green beans you'll experience, the sauce is ok too.

Jamie Y.

Yelp
We stumbled upon Luckys cafe by chance, and I was happy with this finding! Luckys cafe was very chilled, casual, neighborly restaurant with reasonably priced food. Now onto food. We ordered French toast sticks, chicken and waffle and sweet potato hash. Everything was delicious! French toast stick is probably one of the best french toast I've ever had; however, it is very rich and dense, I would recommend ordering one for the table and share. Sweet potato hash was light and more healthier choice breakfast. Chicken and waffle were pretty good, too, with the gravy, but I've had better. It wouldn't be choice of dish for me next time. Overall, we had great breakfast. Would love to try their lunch menu next time!

Kelsey R.

Yelp
Service: excellent Food: yummy I enjoyed an affordable and delicious meal at Luckys Cafe. I got the chicken fried chicken with a cranberry mimosa. It all tasted great, no complaints at all. The restaurant was cute and resembled an old school diner. Our server was very attentive and nice, & the wait for our food wasn't long at all on a Saturday morning. Overall 4/5 Would come back!

Lawren Marie B.

Yelp
To end my new year my husband, father in law, some friends and i are went to Luckys. I've lived in Dallas for ten years and heard all about Luckys. Finally came in. Seated quickly and loved the ambience with an adorable home diner feel. Our server James was such an amazing server. He was so nice, efficient, communicative and all around sweet. Everything was absolutely delicious. Really loved and enjoyed our time. Thank you Luckys for closing out our new year

Eimy H.

Yelp
We had to get are own seat and the glass of water was dirty. I got egg shells on my food and raw food

Anthony T.

Yelp
I have been looking for a new diner to call home since I left LA. I found it. This place is wonderful. From the warm and friendly staff to the delectable menu. Bonus, they have a full bar! The chicken and waffles are delicious. The breakfast enchiladas are on point. Even the basic breakfast is great. They spend the money for high quality ingredients and you can taste it. Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner this is a great spot. Jimmy is an absolute sweetheart and Bobby behind the bay makes a strong whiskey sour (my drink of choice lately), good man. Judy the owner? I can't say enough about her. Go in and love on them, they'll love you back.

Spike M.

Yelp
Best all round for food! Breakfast fabulous. Great lunch/dinner! BEST BISCUITS! Can really do a great job on salmon.

Zahkyia H.

Yelp
Extra special breakfast spot in Oaklawn. A friend and I visited as a spur of the moment idea on a Monday early afternoon. Plenty of tables available and the servers are super nice and attentive. We started with a mimosa carafe and the fried pickles (sweet and sour). I loved the batter on the pickles, it was thick and crunchy perfect contrast to the pickles. I've never had a sweet pickle fried, and I'm glad I tried it, same texture but the sweet really stands out and goes with the dipping sauce well. For brunch I ordered the chicken and waffle with dark meat and a side of gravy. Where I begin, it was all AMAZING! The waffle is perfect, crunchy outside and fluffy inside and it doesn't get soggy. It's served with a cinnamon butter on top( yes, you heard me lol). I really enjoyed the dark meat because it was more juicy and flavorful, which balanced all the sweet from the waffle. I ordered the half order but next time I will definitely get the whole so I can take some home for later. I also had a taste of the banana cognac pancakes. Wow! They are delicious! Even if bananas aren't your favorite, you should definitely try them because the chemistry between all the flavors is excellent!

Jeff B.

Yelp
Great locate that's been in the neighborhood for a long time. It has good food at decent prices. Especially great for breakfast.

Patty A.

Yelp
I ordered chicken fried steak, whipped potatoes and okra with gravy on the side. The steak was covered in gravy and the potatoes where mashed with skins. Both were barely warm. The okra was good and hot as well. My husband ordered the ground steak and it didn't even have enough gravy to covered the dry over cooked ground beef. When I told the waitress about the gravy she replied that she didn't know I meant the steak as well as the steak. She didn't a knowledge her mistake until I pointed it out. Food was barely warm and just so so. The service wasn't good and for that reason we won't be back. Oh and it was very expensive for what we had. $35

Samantha B.

Yelp
Carlos P customer service is the best his nice n very polite the food is awesome the food is fresh and very good inside the restaurant is clean

Daniel P.

Yelp
Lucky's is an exceptional farm to table breakfast, and arguably the most affordable in Dallas! Their 50s style diner experience is iconic, and they keep it clean and running fast like a well oiled machine. They are at their best for breakfast and brunch, so swing by and try one of their classic options or venture into something more exciting. Pros: - fresh fruit - locally sourced ingredients - consistent quality - fast and experienced service - attentive and friendly staff - fun and relaxed atmosphere Cons: - a little more expensive because of the local ingredients. - foods are seasoned with salts and dried ingredients instead of their fresh counterparts, which is disappointing considering the local options available. I enjoyed my breakfast and plan to return to try some of their Tex-mex brunch options. I can safely recommend this establishment to anyone interested.

Sharyl D.

Yelp
Fabulous food! I got the pot roast for lunch, it tasted just like my grandmother's pot roast. We also got the apple pie à la mode, and it was the best apple pie ever had.

Charles L.

Yelp
Ordered breakfast this morning. An omelet (which I believe was made with Velveeta cheese), grits (more like Cream of Wheat) and a very hard biscuit for me, pancake & bacon for one guest and oatmeal for another guest. Now I and the pancake/bacon eater are sick at our stomachs. Never again!

Brian ..

Yelp
Step back in time at this charming old school café that's all about authenticity, without any unnecessary frills. Love it or leave it, but chances are you'll find yourself falling head over heels and itching to return. The staff, a delightful blend of seasoned experts, are not only friendly but also possess a wealth of knowledge about the café's rich history. Prepare for a melting pot of guests from different walks of life, sprinkled with a couple of eccentric characters for good measure. But let's talk about the food: it's simply sublime. No extravagant garnishes or unnecessary embellishments here - just pure, unadulterated goodness. This place knows exactly what it wants to be, and boy, do they nail it!

Sarah S.

Yelp
We had the best service and food here on day one that we came back the next day! I love the farm fresh eggs, sourdough, sausage, and grits. All delicious and served up quick by our friendly waiter.

Kim D.

Yelp
If you want a classic diner experience, look no further. This place has some very cute decor. The menu is quite extensive, with diner classics and some great modern favorites. I like that they used lot of local ingredients and everything is nice and fresh. My partner and I split a chocolate shake. Not on the menu, but so satisfying. I ordered the sweet potato hash and i really enjoyed it. Our water was very nice and attentive. Overall, this was a great place for a nice classic American meal with a retro atmosphere

S S.

Yelp
I've never been a fan of Lucky's. In my opinion, the food is always bland and tasteless. I recently visited for dinner and was hugely surprised. I ordered pot roast, and it was fantastic. Loved the bread that came with it, and it was a generous portion for the price. The meat was mostly lean, and I didn't need to remove huge chunks of fat. We were there nearly three hours (restaurant wasn't full), and we never felt rushed to leave. In fact, our drinks were refilled several times. Talk about friendly, competent service! (Yes, I tipped very well.) I've changed my mind and am now a fan.

Ashley A.

Yelp
Great attention to detail and excellent service! The food is fantastic! Especially, the meatloaf with the gravy! Hands down! The best!!

Michael V.

Yelp
Great service. Jameson was awesome. The food was great!! Will come back on the next visit.

Dee R.

Yelp
Y'all! I ordered the sweet potato hash and got this! It was as though they didn't want me to order from here every again and I won't be! All this was is soggy potatoes, unscrambled eggs (I asked for scrambled hard) and absolutely ZERO seasoning in the spinach, not even salt! Paid about $18 with delivery and all. IT'S A NO FOR ME! Y'all HAVE to be better!

Sonya A.

Yelp
If you're a foodie, like me, then Lucky's Cafe is definitely a spot to check out for your driving pleasures. They offer a variety of food, and even vegan foods that are so good! The lemonade is my personal favorite. The perfect blend of sweetness and tartness to give your tastebuds a sensational burst flavor without overpowering your mouth. Good presentation, self-seating, and an amiable atmosphere add to your ambience and create a really nice place to dine alone or with a friend. Check them out!

Christiane M.

Yelp
food was so good - especially the pancakes and biscuits, server was friendly, very retro/diner vibe which is fun

Maggie L.

Yelp
have not been here in over a year so thought it was time to revisit. While the service was very friendly, it was also harried and A bit chaotic. The meatloaf was fine, though it did have kind of an odd color sauce on the top. Unfortunately the liver and onions was not very good. The meat was very sinewy, lukewarm, as were the mashed potatoes and okra. Overall quite disappointing.

Roderick K.

Yelp
Food was okay until I found a long piece of hair attached to my order of fried pickles.

Margaret L.

Yelp
Fresh food. Locally sourced. Consistent in their cooking. Friendly service. We love it!!!!

Mary D.

Yelp
Cheers to this local, delicious diner for coming through on a snowy, ice day in all of TX. On DoorDash, Grubhub, all the apps - Luckys was the only place open today to feed our neighborhood. Lucky's brave employees made it possible for me to eat a tasty breakfast with good portions and company. I particularly liked the well seasoned and flaky/crispy chicken fingers. I also enjoyed the spinach and green beans. Yum. My partner enjoyed the juevos rancheros which Lucky's has put a spin on. And they gave us warm, buttery, complimentary biscuits to eat! PS the ranch and honey mustard are out of this world! Service was on point. Our server was quick, efficient, and aware of our needs. She had our sauces, sugars, and dressings down. She was also friendly as were all the staff. Ambience was set up like your class diner. I felt cozy and warm on a cold February day. I can't wait to come back again. I also loved that this place celebrates all walks of life. I loved seeing the elderly, children, and couples. Can't wait to come to breakfast again!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The best cafe in Dallas! The staff is always friendly, and they always seem to know a lot of customers that come in. Their biscuits are amazing, just like everything else I've eaten here. I usually come for breakfast/brunch, but want to try lunch/dinner soon. They also have a decent mimosa carafe deal which is always a perk! The atmosphere is a combination of a traditional cafe with a lively bar... it has had a great crowd every time I have been (in a good way). It is also in a great location on Oak Lawn, but on the corner so you can walk through the neighborhood and/or park free on the street if you need to. Can't recommend enough!

W S.

Yelp
While the service is excellent, the food quality is lacking. Something "amuck" with almost all of my breakfast items. Oatmeal, scrambled eggs were the worst offenders. Use to love this place but stay away until the food gets better

Sara S.

Yelp
food is average. highly recommend you check your receipt against your bank statement.

D M.

Yelp
Great service AMAZING people, to bad I don't live in Dallas otherwise I would've here every day!!
