"Classic Culver City hang Dear John’s has a fresh new look, and a new name to go along with the retool — though one might not notice the subtle changes right away. New owner Ben Myron tells Eater that the address on Culver Boulevard has reopened this week under the name Lucky’s. There’s new neon signage right by the front door that shows off the moniker, but Myron says that out of respect for the legacy of Dear John’s the plan is to keep the original red and white sign on the lamppost overlooking the restaurant intact. Inside Lucky’s, the differences are subtle but telling. The carpeting is gone, there’s a big new black banquette running along the length of one wall. Myron’s also upgraded the cocktails — the signature drink is now a mezcalita with Casamigos tequila and Montelobos mezcal — and there’s a full new menu from the kitchen as well. That includes shrimp tacos, nachos, burger sliders, a fried chicken sandwich, and salads. An ode to the original intent of the former Dear John’s remains on the menu in the form of a ten-ounce New York strip steak, served with fries or onion rings." - Farley Elliott

After work I was convinced I needed good food and a drink. I came upon this hidden gem with great ambiance. It's a local hangout but welcoming to new comers. The food is great! You can't go wrong with the steak. The portobello fries are a must. Drinks are strong and righteous.

A Culver City classis with classic American style food. The prime rib is delicious, and drinks are always great. The prices can be a little steep...and don't expect California Cuisine here...but go there for the frozen-in-time (in a good way) atmosphere and listen to some crooners sing Sinatra covers. I mean if was good enough for Ol' Blue Eyes himself...

It's now called Lucky's and it's turned into a regular bar with really loud music and a limited menu. They've taken out all of the booths and the room is now an echo chamber. The music is so loud that everyone has to yell to have a conversation. Loud music plus a bunch of yelling people make it hard to talk to your friends. They did turn the radio off for about 20 min for a live music set. That was really good, and at 2/3 the volume so we could enjoy both the music and our conversation. Apparently, they only carry one kind of cider, and I got the last one. Waitress was nice but, not attentive. I would have ordered something else but, she didn't come back until we were ready to leave. They get an extra star because I still had a good time with my friends but, we won't be going back again. Too bad it's not Dear John's anymore.

I love Dear John's. It's right off the freeway, Culver Blvd exit off the 405, so it's easy to stop here after work for a drink or for dinner. Manny the bartender makes great drinks. The food is great. I love the Alaskan crab legs and their short ribs but my favorite is the steak sandwich. They recently remodeled the interior and it has the old school feel with new school vibe. Family owned, Maria is a down to earth super star. She makes me feel like family every time. Bring a date or your friends or even come alone and sit at the bar. You will have a good time regardless. I always do.

Had the absolute pleasure of dining at Dear John's last night. Stayed in the area and googled a close place and so glad we ended up here. The owner is a total darling and we were fussed over and extremely well looked after. The service was warm, friendly and welcoming and the food was just divine. I had the crab legs and the Mr had the filet Mignon and he swears it was the best steak he has ever had. Enjoyed the lovely comfortable booths and chilled out relaxed atmosphere. It made us sad to leave I wish we lived here so we could come back again and again. Unforgettable thank you Dear Johns!

No longer a steakhouse, now a hipster bar. Drinks are ok, food is ok, not bad overall for a hipster joint, but really wish the new owners had kept it the way it was. It's also not Dear John's anymore, it's now Luckys Bar

I had seen the makeover on TV so wanted to try out Dear Johns and took a friend for a steak dinner. When we sat in the booth we noticed black tape on them and in the TV makeover they talked about the tape having hair in them so I was turned off. Chuy the waiter said the TV show was on a tight budget and could only do a partial redo on the restaurant. Next my bread plate was very dirty and I had Chuy the waiter take it away. Then we asked about the happy hour as we arrived at 5pm and he said you had to sit at the bar to get happy hour prices. Our salads were sad looking & I ordered the prime rib and my friend the New York steak and both disappointments. Our steaks were something you would expect at a Norms. We spent $120 with out tip and were very disappointed and will not go back ever. I had high hopes after seeing the show on TV and found out they went back to some of their old menu and ways after the show. I wouldn't recommend Dear Johns to anyone.

We came without reservations on Valentine's Day and sat at the bar for dinner. The lamb and New York steak were both delicious, the bartender was good, and the pianist was a lovely addition.
