After the way I was treated last night by the bar manager, I am absolutely never returning to this establishment. It is clear that this place is not a safe or welcoming environment for anyone with dietary restrictions who mentions that their drink is too sweet. Instead of accommodating concerns, he told me I received exactly what I ordered and that I still had to pay because “the liquor can’t go back in the bottle.” I never asked for a free drink. When I didn’t react the way he hoped—likely to justify ejecting me—he talked about me to several staff right in front of me, clearly trying to make me uncomfortable. After I left, he even followed me outside and attempted to interrupt my conversation with security in an effort to provoke a confrontation. This behavior was unprofessional, hostile, and completely unacceptable.
Given the level of intensity he showed over such a simple request, I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t a pattern of behavior for the manager. Not a single person in the establishment apologized for this treatment, and the manager was cavalier about providing the owner’s name, which only underscores the problem. I will be advising my entire network about this behavior because I would hate to see anyone else walking into that space blindsided by such argumentative and baiting conduct. It was obvious, at least from management, that my presence was unwelcome. Whenever appropriate, I will be informing all of my community partners, network, and colleagues to avoid this establishment due to the emotional instability displayed by its leadership.
