4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: July 12 | Eater LA

"Out in Canoga Park, a quiet office park contains a busy cloud kitchen where one door opens into Lucky’s Pizza, where plucky Peruvian pizzaiolo Luigi Erausquin makes some of the most underrated whole pies in Los Angeles. Erausquin says he once owned something like seven restaurants in Peru, including one nearby Machu Picchu, mostly on the fame of his pizza, which he describes as New York-style. He also says his dough uses slow-fermented sourdough, though the actual flavor won’t veer anywhere near tangy. We ordered a pepperoni and a supreme—the latter loaded with juicy sausage, ham, onions, and bell peppers for something that felt like delivery pizza—and both were excellent: fairly thin, pliant crusts and well-loaded toppings, something in the middle of the road that won’t be too challenging for most people. I actually wish there were something this tasty near me in the South Bay, and I’m hoping if Canoga Park doesn’t catch on, Erausquin will make his way south." - Eater Staff

Google
Hands down the best pizza in Los Angeles and the best food I ate this year. Their pizza is made with such fresh ingredients that it has amazing flavor. The crust has a perfect chew to crunch ratio, and you can taste the sourdough flavor. The tomato sauce is super fresh and light. The cheese is nice and tastes good. I ordered mine with mushrooms, and they cut such big chunks of mushrooms. I'm only going to eat pizza from this place moving forward because it's the best in town. And they also have a special of 10-in pizza and a soda for 10 bucks, you can't beat that. And Chef Luigi and his wife are so sweet and kind, you can feel the love they put into their business. Please know this place is in a kitchen hall, so there is no seating for dining in.

One of the best pizzas I’ve had in a long time. I really recommend Luckys pizza the owner Luigi cooks with passion. I got to try the supreme pizza, the margarita pizza. they also have a family special for only $29 but definitely try out this pizza. It’s really good and it’s worth the wait when it’s busy.

Absolutely amazing thin crust pizza. The closest pie to a New York style pizza you can find anywhere in LA. Don’t be alarmed because it’s a ghost kitchen. The quality of the food will speak for itself. Thank you! Especially being open on Christmas Eve. My kids loved it!

Delicious pie! A real crispy, chewy crust, my favorite. This is the first pizza I've tried in the area and I will be returning. I'll admit the location looked like a ghost kitchen but this is the real deal. Lady was super nice too.

Ordered the 18" Valley Queen Pizza. The pizza was great! The dough was perfect. The toppings were very good and generous. I added anchovies for that extra salty flavor too. Normally, I skip eating the edge pizza crust but this pizza was so tasty that you'll even eat the outer edge! :D The dough is that good. They also sell pizza by the slice if you don't want to order a whole pizza pie. Easy free parking lot and free street parking available.

I wanted to like this pizza based on reviews. Specifically, wanted to try this Sicilian pizza. Ordered two pizzas on Saturday night, one Sicilian pepperoni, and one of the valley queen. Got home and we had two regular flat pizzas no Sicilian pizza. My husband called about the error and they said oh we ran out of Sicilians. Mind you, we paid extra for the Sicilian and gave a tip. If you ran out of the Sicilian, why wouldn’t you mention it when we go for the pick up order. My husband asked about a refund of the extra amount paid for the Sicilian, the person said that it’s not so easy to refund and that they will call us back later. It’s been three days and no one has called. I would say this place is a scam. It’s not even a real restaurant. If you want good pizza try Jerry’s in Canoga Park. We have never had a problem with ordering from them online and they have an actual restaurant so if they make an error, you can actually go back and get the error corrected.

This is what I waited an hour and a half for! Yuck, who wants blackened burnt pizza! I was so excited to find NY style pizza, but I can tell you will most certainty, it’s definitely not like this!

Google
I ordered a Margherita pizza from Lucky's on a whim. Not only did they accommodate my order very late for them, they made an amazing pizza! Easily one of the best I've ever had in CA, as a longtime east coast pizza slob. Anytime I eat pizza from here on out, it's Lucky's.

Yelp
I'm very particular about my Pizza Margherita so we tried the famous YouTube ad about a small Italian Pick Up Pizza place on Owensmouth Street in Canoga Park, a much touted pizza core er owned by young Italians. We ordered the 15' Pizza Margherita and took it home. This place is located in a shared restaurant warehouse like building in an industrial place. There's really no sit in or tables, it's a pick up ordering system format. As soon as I got home I opened the box and began smelling the pizza first, looked for the basil and the quality of the cheese. The aroma was Margherita like and as soon as I munched in, hmmmm... the taste was close to the real pizza Margherita that reminds me of Tuscany. There's really no parking, let's make that clear, price is about 22 dollars for the 15 inch and ordering is online. If you want to order at the site, it will take you at least an hour to wait for your pie. These folks really knead and prepare your pizza by had and it's NOT like one of those frozen ones. However, their pizza is really good, take it from me. I've travelled in Italy and Europe many times. I usually drive from village to village during my breaks to enjoy anything food or pie in Italy. Let's face it, pizza in Los Angeles and America for that matter is unavoidably all over BUT they are not made the same and much less taste that great. This pizza is not the best, short of the Italian equivalent of pizza Margherita of Eataly in Century City or Cipriani of Beverly Hills or Manhattan BUT it's close. So, if you are always aching for pizza, try thin one and you will never be sorry.

Yelp
I've been here twice and wow both times this place did not disappoint. My personal favorite? The pepperoni with caramelized onions, OMG, it's the best of the best! The cheese, the crust, the sauce so crispy so thin and sooo yummy. The owner and Nicholas at the front are also super nice and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The spot can be a little tricky to find since it's a ghost kitchen, but once you're inside, you're greeted with friendly service and amazing food. Lucky's has become one of my top pizza spots, and I'll definitely be coming back again and again. Would recommend!

Yelp
Good pizza. Bit expensive but better than most places. Sauce is excellent Not sure why this place hasn't had the hype or popularity but definitely a great pie.
google avatar

Billzz818 G.

Yelp
Pizza was bad they use kalamata olives which dnt belong on a pizza very sour also the sausage taste like breakfast sausage, onions burnt also $$$18 for a little personal pie IDK wut the hype is they must pay these foodies on social media to rave about them but in reality they're way better choices around the valley skip dnt waste your money!!

Yelp
The Place- This place is a trip. It is located in what looks like a small industrial area. You walk into a hallway with a bunch of doors and see that multiple restaurants, to go only, have rented small places. I love the ingenuity. Food- I had the Supreme Pizza and it was very good and I would recommend. Service- Friendly. The only thing that kept me from getting to 5 stars was that I would have wanted my $30 18" pizza to have been in the $25 range.

Yelp
Superb thin-crust cheese pizza pie from Lucky's. Found this spot on yelp and I'm so glad I did. Their sourdough is prepared for over 3 days, the cheese and tomato sauce are high quality, which makes their pizza very tasty. Each slice is somewhat well done, the undercarriage has some char and the slice holds its posture, doesn't sag. With each bite you're hitting a variety of tastes notes and truly tasting each ingredient and freshness of the pie. They gave me a side of this incredible sauce for the dipping and I was blown away-it's a must try. The sauce I'm showcasing is the spicy mango sauce and as you dip your slice into it, it could literally change your life. What seems to be a mango puree with a touch of cayenne pepper, this magical sauce compliments each slice so perfectly. A must try, for the pizzas and this sauce! The place is slightly hard to find, cause it's actually a ghost kitchen and you have to walk into this hallway until you reach the Lucky's door. The customer service is very friendly and professional. Great find for me since I'm only 10 minutes away. Will definitely order from them again!

Gail Witt C.

Yelp
what's up standing about Lucky's pizza they use higher in cheese which is exceptionally delicious. Their pieces are hot crust is perfect and the varieties of the meat with the sweet onions. It's very delicious. The price is a little pricey, but not that much but the pizza is very good
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Called ahead of time and that was a great idea since it takes time for them to prep and make it (not complaining at all). They are for sure a hidden gem and I'm glad we found them because pizza in the valley can be hit or miss. The guys working are nice and deal with a lot in terms of uber orders and then being canceled and reshuffled. They took my order and they have a text system that works pretty well. The food came out hot and remained hot until I got home which was about a 15 minute drive. The flavors didn't disappoint and they aren't stingy with the toppings. The crust was not flaky and was amazing, one of the best I've had. The sauce to cheese ratio was also top tier and all around a great experiences Five stars for sure
google avatar

Sharon K.

Yelp
Be patient. It's worth the wait! Pizza still fabulous. Same flavorful crust crispy. Toppings plentiful. Sauce delicious
google avatar

Lediona L.

Yelp
This is the best Pizza I've had in the valley, by far. Amazing quality ingredients, creative toppings, fair price, and top customer service. We go back here pretty often or order it for parties.
google avatar

Nancy J.

Yelp
Heads up! This is a ghost kitchen -- there is no restaurant! Ordered by phone, was told it'd be 1 hour, we got a subsequent text that said it'd be 20 minutes, so we left to pick it up. Got there to find it was going to be another 20 minutes. Waited... waited... then got a text that my order had been sitting there for 20 minutes. They had our pizza under a wrong name. Pizza was okay... but after that kind of ordering/customer service experience, probably won't be back -- simply wasn't that good.

Yelp
If you love Toppers Pizza, you'll love Lucky Pizza. I ordered a large, half veggie, half Hawaiian pizza for $30 and some change. Thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Very comparable to Toppers pizza quality -only difference is the slightly thinner crust than Toppers, which I enjoyed. I placed my order via cell phone and was told my pizza would be ready in 30-40 minutes. I arrived and it was ready on time. Lucky's takes cash, Venmo and debit card. Tatted up guy at the entrance was nice enough, as I didn't really converse much with him, just picked up my order. Lucky's provided disposable plates, napkins, a mango habanero sauce for dipping, couple packets of red peppers and parmesan cheese too. Located in a building labeled "Kitchen Place" (see my photo). When arrived there was 3 other people, waiting at the door of Lucky's for their order. You'll see the pizza boxes stacked outside and know you're in in the right spot (see my other pic). Small free parking lot. Area may seem a little sketch, as it's around other industrial looking buildings and apartment complexes, though I lived to share this pizza experience -so no worries, lol.
google avatar

Delilah M.

Yelp
Our friend kept telling us about this place so we decided to try it! We ordered ahead of time to schedule a pick up at 4pm. Once we got there we luckily found packing right away (we've heard parking is tricky). We ordered the family meal with the large pepperoni pizza, garlic bread, and two sodas. Was ready right on time - pizza was fresh out of the oven, not cold, not greasy. It was absolutely delicious! Loved the crust. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The foood was amazing!!!! Usually you have to wait for food even you order online, but not for Lucky's Pizza, they have my order ready by the time they estimated it would be ready. It was my first time trying, And i love the everything they put on the pizza and cook it with perfection!! Totally would come back for more!

Yelp
I had reeeeeaallllyyyy high hopes for this spot. After seeing so many amazing reviews I thought I have to try! I LOVE PIZZA, so I had high expectations, especially at $33 for a large. I will happily pay good money for good pizza but sadly I thought this pizza was just okay at best. I don't understand where the buzz is coming from? The sauze had no flavor, no tang, no zest, not even a sweetness to it, just tasted like nothing. My pizza was also not very thin, the crust was on the thicker side, like normal pizza. I woukdnt call this NY style at all. The dough tasted like tap water. I know someone out there reading this knows what I am talking about. It's like you can taste the water used for the dough. It leaves an after taste in your mouth. I really wanted to love Lucky's but it's a no from me. There really is no good pizza in Canoga Park/West Hills/ Woodland Hills. Someone please change my mind.
google avatar

Arianna L.

Yelp
It's a small but mighty pizza shop. Latina owned and I love supporting small businesses. The service by Luigi was top notch! The pizzas were delish even the vegan one! I would recommend this shop
google avatar

Marcelo G.

Yelp
Had this pizza a twice in the same day so so so good. Margarita pizzza is made for sauce lovers and the they do not hold back on the pepperonis.
google avatar

Nipsy T.

Yelp
Sad that the pizza just wasn't what we were expecting. Now there is the old saying that "even if a pizza is bad, it's still pretty good. And that's definitely true with Lucky's Pizza. Their pizza is NOT bad, but it just wasn't good and also considering the price, it was disappointing. We got the pepperoni with the green drizzle sauce and the Mike's Pizza. The flavor was lacking on both also the crust was too limp and soggy and overly greasy. The top part of the crust was nice and crusty and caramelized. Even though the Mike pizza was loaded with toppings it just lacked seasoning and punch. The sweet yellow sauce just doesn't work either. It's overkill. Thank God, we ordered it on the side. The staff was extremely friendly and professional when we went to go pick up the pies. I believe Luigi was the name of the guy in charge. Oh well.
google avatar

Matthew F.

Yelp
Great pizza! Amazing thin crust with the perfect crunch. High quality toppings. Things to be aware. This is take out or delivery through 3rd party apps only. The 18" was cut into 8 slices, so they were big but I did like that. Be prepared to wait though, my pizza took an extra 20 minutes then what the original time said thus was a Saturday at 6pm. so while it's definitely worth it, order knowing you'll likely wait.

Elizabeth

Yelp
Lucky's Pizza is hands down the best in town! Delicious, freshly baked, and full of flavor ! You can truly taste the quality in every bite. What makes it even better? It's Peruvian-owned, and you can feel the passion in the food. Do yourself a favor and give it a try ! it's absolutely worth the trip!
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Got a slice of cheese pizza. The people that work there were very nice. It's a nice hole in the wall ghost kitchen. Should give it a try. They are quick and fast. Pizza was soft and tasty. Good deal for a slice and soda combo.
google avatar

Theresa F.

Yelp
It was a pretty good pizza but the delivery through Grub Hub took so long that the pie was cold. That made it disappointing. I will try them again and hope for a quicker delivery.
google avatar

Maryana V.

Yelp
Hands down the best pizza in town. Always baked to perfection. If you haven't tried this spot, you have to!!! It's a must!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Just a shoutout to Lucky's Pizza on Owensmouth 1 Blk So. of Nordoff Best pizza in the Valley. This tiny kitchen run by two of the nicest gentleman I've had the pleasure to cross paths with.. I'm talking a KITCHEN ONLY not some sit down place.. Make that call and get your favorite topping and crust size.. that's it. It's like going into the kitchen of your favorite restaurant, having a conversation with your buddy the chief and he cooks you your own pie. I drive for Grubhub and seen many pizza joints, but I ain't ever seen this... just don't get lost on your way to a slice of heaven.. no big sighs here.. V.I.P. Only.. and the P stands for Pizza.. Lucky's Pizza
google avatar

Sheryl T.

Yelp
Finally found the best pizza spot in LA county!!!! My family ordered pizzas on Saturday evening and again on Sunday!!! The service was superb and they are so busy delivery is about an hour but it's definitely worth the wait. Delicious, yummy salads too. This is the spot for a great pizza Happy Yelping
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Ughhhhh....I hate that we love Lucky's Pizza so much. But, it's just so good.... We keep asking ourselves whether they put crack in their pizza because we are addicted. If you like a NY style pizza with a thin, chewy crust, this is your place. The sauce is on point and the toppings are great. I've had one or two orders where the pizza was either overcooked or undercooked, but every other time the pizzas have been fantastic. If you are willing, I would suggest reheating the pizza slice on the stovetop at home for a few minutes for a crispier crust and a piping hot pizza. It's what Friday evenings are made for. Lucky's Pizza is strictly a takeout business. Call in your order and expect to wait another 30-45 minutes+ after your pickup time. Only once in the dozen times that we've ordered from Lucky's Pizza did we get our pizza on time and it was because we picked up at 4pm on a Sunday. If you're ordering on a Friday evening, prepare to wait longer. I've tried ordering 2 hours in advance and we waited almost an hour after the designated pick up time. We've tried coming 30 minutes later because we know they run late, but we still end up waiting 30 minutes. If we didn't love their pizza so much, I wouldn't bother to come back, but it's our favorite pizza this side of the valley so we begrudgingly wait it out. The long wait times is why I unfortunately have to knock a star. If you're in a rush or expect your pizzas on time - do not come here. You will only get frustrated. But, if you're willing to wait it out, you're in for a treat.
google avatar

Trace V.

Yelp
This is a GHOST KITCHEN so take-out only. Very good NY Style pizza my fav. being the pepperoni w/ caramelized onions. Margarita also quite good. Only complaint is the wait as they said 20min. when we called but the pizza was actually ready for pick-up in 40min. Just two regular pies so not sure what the hold up was? One star removed for that (and apparently it's an issue other Yelpers have mentioned in their reviews).

Marcela R.

Yelp
My spicy BBQ chicken pizza was delicious, just the way I like the crust, crispy edges with a little burnt. A 10/10 I would highly recommend . My Hawaiian pizza was just ok.
google avatar

Amir N.

Yelp
Pizza was great! Got a Large Meat Lovers and it did not disappoint! Toppings were good, dough was fresh and crispy, sauce was flavorful, and the cheese was good quality like everything else! The mango sauce is a nice addition as well! It was a bit of a wait for the pizza but it was well worth it! Looking forward to the next order soon!
google avatar

B M.

Yelp
Tried the Don's special for the first time at Lucky's pizza. It was good. If the dough & crust would've been crispier? It would've been really good. Overall the pizza didn't disappoint.
google avatar

Natalie T.

Yelp
I'm surprised this place has so many positive reviews. The dough itself was good but pizza overall was nasty. We got Margarita and Buffalo Chicken pizzas. Would not recommend you to spend your money on this
google avatar

Faustino M.

Yelp
If you're a fan of the NY style pizza, with an extra crispy crust then you're just like me! This place is killing the CA pizza game. Easily best pizza in the state (Pro tip:ask for extra crispy crust. You're welcome)
google avatar

Janeen P.

Yelp
Love this place! I finally found a pizza place I actually crave. Best pizza in the valley!
google avatar

Lior D.

Yelp
You want a good pizza? Look no further! Lucky's not only has a great selection of unique and delicious specialty pizzas, but the quality of the ingredients and the deep appreciation to the amazing dough brings flavors that every pizza connoisseur will appreciate. Great ratio between sauce cheese and toppings, and even with multiple toppings, the pizza holds firmly with zero flop. I ordered the "Mike" pizza for delivery, and I loved it! Hit the spot ++++ Can't wait to order again and try something new! Thank you Lucky's!!!
google avatar

Alana B.

Yelp
Absolutely the best, hands down! If you're searching for an authentic Neapolitan pizza experience, look no further--this place nails it. From the first glance, you can tell it's the real deal: the blistered, leopard-spotted crust puffed to perfection, the center soft and slightly soupy just like it should be. The dough was light and airy with that beautiful, subtle tang that only a long fermentation can bring. The San Marzano tomato sauce was fresh and vibrant, and the creamy mozzarella melted just right--stretchy, soft, and full of flavor. A few fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil brought the whole thing together It's clear Lucky's respects the tradition--every detail, the delicate char on the crust, speaks of skill and passion. This isn't just pizza; it's, flavor, and comfort all in one. The service is spectacular fast friendly overall excellent. Gotta try for yourself. Highly recommend for purists and pizza lovers alike, You gotta try this place for yourself!!
google avatar

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
Let me start by saying as a person who grew up in NY my taste in Pizza is super picky. That being said I give this place an A. From the crust being cooked perfectly thru out to the sauce which is perfectly sweet but not to sweet the flavor explosion was never ending. We got the Margherita Pizza 10" and the Sweet Pepperoni Pizza 10". Both were insanely good. It's a satellite kitchen so super small but honestly it won't be long before they open a regular pizza place. I can't rave enough about Luigi and the pizza art he's created. If you long for great pizza at a good price take it from this native New Yorker this is the place for you.
google avatar

Bradley T.

Yelp
Best pizza in the valley! Guaranteed Great service! Great Price! Ask about the specials.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Perfect pizza take out spot. This place is in a shared use commercial kitchen location and you have to take a double take to make sure you're in the right spot. Don't worry- you are. The line down the hallway and pizza speaks for itself. My personal favorite was the Sweet Pepperoni (and I don't even like onions, but the onions were caramelized) and the Mike (I love pineapple on my pizza). The crust was my favorite. I even added a little hot honey to top off my delish slice. Can't wait to come back again soon.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Whilst being a way in the Valley area, running from the palisades fires, I decided it would be very fitting to get a pizza at Lucky's and it was a wonderful experience. First of all Brandon, my pizza maker was not only very cool but also very sweet, which given my circumstances meant a lot! The pizza I had, with not too gooey not too crispy delicious doe, perfectly melted cheese and yummy pepperoni was absolutely delicious... May I say one of the best pizzas, if not the best I have ever had! New York style baby! I loved my pizza and also got a couple freebies, I really liked those addictive garlic roles.. The pizza was amazing and the kindness and compassion felt was equally as appreciated... Specially in difficult times like these! Before leaving the Valley I went back once again to enjoy! Thanks Brandon for the great pizza
google avatar

Guy Q.

Yelp
Great pizza and friendly owner. Unusual storefront and you will likely drive around the block a few times looking for it. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Carol A.

Yelp
Late night order availability if good. However, not nearly edible as more than 60% burnt.
google avatar

Clarence T.

Yelp
The pizza itself is great, loved it. I also liked the little area that they were operating out of, the Kitchen Place (i forget what it's called) seems like a really interesting concept. The only complaint I have about the service is that the time estimate for food seems to be off by about 10 minutes. (said the pizza would be ready at x, went in and it was actually ready 10 minutes later) would recommend
google avatar

Chelsea A.

Yelp
AHHHH what have you done to me. The spicy mango sauce is killing me. It's all I've been craving all week. I even googled how to make it but gave up! Firstly the garlic bread is actually so good. Whatever the previous reviews have said believe them! Hawaiian in my eyes was perfect. If I order Hawaiian I want a shit ton of pineapple and they delivered!!!!! Sweet pepperoni is so good too! Perfect balance and with the mango sauce ughhhhhhh. We ordered DoorDash a little far from the restaurant but nothing a quick reheat in the air fryer won't fix. Overall can't wait to try more pizzas here it was amazing. Please sell your sauce in a bottle !!!!!!
google avatar

Jody J.

Yelp
This is the best pizza I've had in a long time. I'm so glad it's in the valley. I had their famous margarita, pizza and a sausage and pepperoni, the ingredients were fresh and well prepared thank you!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Had a slice of cheese pizza today-very good crust, right amount of cheese and a touch of sweet in the sauce. Take out or delivery only.

Rob F.

Yelp
Kind of found this place by accident and was not disappointed. Great pizza made simple. Classic version of what pizza should be. Also was our first experience with a ghost kitchen. Weird, but super cool. The guy working the place was super nice and really gave great service. We will be back

Tigran T.

Yelp
The order was in an hour, very bad value for that money, tasteless pizza, the second time I ordered delivery, also an hour later and very bad

amanda r.

Yelp
We decided to order from Luckys Pizza because it had great ratings and pizza looked good online! I placed an order under my husbands name online and it said it would be ready for pickup 7:16-7:26pm. The order was not ready until 825pm!!!! Almost an hour waiting for food. I understand it can get very hectic and busy but they should be honest with customers and just say it will be an hour, they're running behind or whatever the reason! I then call and get transferred to the "owner" and they tell me they are sorry but we have the food now. And says they are too busy to resolve my problem and have to go.On top of it all the owner then hangs up on me while I was talking explaining the situation. Then blocks my number! ZERO STARS!!! Terrible customer service.

Anthony G.

Yelp
Best pizza spot in the valley. Service is good. Ambiance is not relevant since it's a ghost kitchen.
