Her Resume would be Larger than Life!! Lucy Craft Laney is remembered as a pioneer and a model figure of education and social activism, and is often referred to as, "the mother of the children of the people". Among her many credentials is: Founder of the Haines Normal and Industrial Institute, Founder of the Lamar School of Nursing, which was directly connected to the Lamar Hospital for black patients, Founder of the first kindergarten for black children, and she was key in the founding of the NAACP. To honor her commitment, tireless efforts and accomplishments, President Carter hung her portrait (and 2 other notable blacks) in the White House, and she was also inducted as a member of the "Georgia Women of Achievement". I was fortunate to have Corey as my tour guide! For the last 24 years he has dedicated his efforts to her Legacy and is a great source of knowledge. Lucy Craft Laney is a "must" in learning about black social development.

What an amazing experience. Great museum dedicated to a pioneer in her own right for the sacrifices she made to educate young Black kids. When I got there, the museum was closed, but call the number on the front door, and a young lady will come and let you in. The military discount is $5.00. There's a 10-minute film that talks about her life and the many contributions she made in the education field. Must see if you're visiting Augusta

While the website listed it open on Mondays, it was initially closed when we arrived. However some of the staff saw us walking around the grounds and offered to open it up for us since we were visiting from out of town. Super informative source on a fascinating African American woman. Thank you to the staff. Above and beyond!

We recently arranged a field trip to see the museum, and more specifically, an installation of art work honoring women artists. The space was clean, elegant, warm, and inviting. The installation was amazing with beautiful artwork in several different styles. The artist talk by Rhian Swain was informative and inspirational. I'm looking forward to coming back for the full museum experience.

Absolutely fantastic museum. Beautifully maintained and well loved by staff. Fantastic events - a hidden gem in Augusta. In my opinion, far more valuable and enriching than its counterpart on Broad St

This was a great informative museum. Please check the times of the tours before going. We found the docent to be friendly, informative, and accommodating. The information we received was presented confidently and with pride. I would highly recommend visiting this house if you find yourself in Augusta!

A fascinating place. The director has been there since its conception. She was very knowledgeable and the museum is full of Augusta's history. It also has works from local artists. There is a place for children's classes.

I visited in 2023. I paid to go on a field trip with a group of people with Aiken Senior life services here in Aiken SC.It was a wonderful experience to, see all of the famous people that have lived in Augusta GA such as James Brown, Laurence Fishbone. So many beautiful photos of African American people that I remember studying about in my history classes in public schools in Madison GA such as, Harriet Tudman, Fredrick Douglas. Education is essential. The staff gave us a tour ,and we watched a movie about Lucy craft Laney ,and the legacy that she left behind.RIP God bless Aiken Senior life services. Thank you Almighty omnipotent unlimited God bless my education at excellence to see some US History.🙏 ❤️

Yelp
Visited the museum during masters week. Opened ceremony with our own wonderful local jazz musician. Mr Bill Karp. Theme and performance. Augusta's Black Caddie A great educational reason to visit the museum. The story vividly reveals how augusta, augusta national, and golf have changed....evolved... The phrase that stays with me.. All players will be white All Caddie will be black Today, I don't see any black caddies at Augusta National tournaments. But The success of Tiger Woods has propelled the unbelievable success of Augusta National. I would enjoy seeing more black players I would I would like to play that course I would like to lower my handicap Good food and drink Thank you

Yelp
Informative museum. It's small. Currently have a collection of beautiful quilts that are African American inspired.

Yelp
I truly enjoyed the tour. The wealth of knowledge about the history of Lucy Craft Laney and the surrounding area was well curated. I toured with local residents, Professor Rogers was able to fluently provide background knowledge and developmental history to ensure all patrons were included in the discussion. I would definitely recommend the tour.

Yelp
This is a great place to visit anytime of year, but February is ideal. The museum consists mostly of Black History displays. You can find out information about local people that have made history in the Augusta community. There's a display about James Brown. The museum has various other events, which are usually fundraisers to assist with getting more exhibits. They also rent the building for various groups to have events or meetings. I recently visited for a speaking engagement for a youth group. I'd encourage anyone in the area to visit and see Ms. Christine Betts. She knows everything about local history.

Yelp
Excellent historical tour of Laney home museum dedicated to Black leaders from Augusta Ga. $5 fee (senior) for one hour with educated guide who walks and talks you through the museum. Situated in older black Augusta neighborhood where Black, Irish, working class resided from turn of the century.
