Four San Gabriel Restaurants Destroyed Strip Mall Fire | Eater LA

"A shop known for Yunnan beef rice noodles inside the same San Gabriel strip mall that was destroyed by the May 16 fire; emergency crews surrounded and flooded the building to protect adjacent properties, brought the blaze under control in roughly two hours, and the cause remains under investigation." - Mona Holmes

Google
Absolutely fantastic! The broth is so rich and flavorful, and the noodles have the perfect chewy texture. My new comfort food! Highly recommend! These lamb skewers are fire!

Shangfang G.

Google
Their rice noodles are so good! Don’t be tricked by the price, the owner is actually giving you 2x tripes of the other restaurants. Super fulfilling, and their service is impeccable!

Google
Very delicious and high quality noodles soup. Also the bbq lamb is tasty has a lot protein.

This store has very good service and the food is delicious! Looking forward to coming again next time!

You think about getting ramen, but you want something healthier? Try rice noodles. LuDingJi will open your world to rice noodle soup. Parking is usually plenty, just go to their underground lot. The restaurant is relatively clean. Food is served pretty instantly, so that's great news for hangry (hungry and angry 🤣) customers. Servers are polite and friendly too. The only complaint I have is the lighting in this restaurant is kind of dark. To order, it's 3-step to get your bowl of rice noodle goodness: 1. Choose your soup base 2. Choose your entree 3. Choose your carbs, but really just get rice noodles! 👌 4. -- Side note: please get some add-ons as the dish doesn't come with many things. -- Food we ordered: - Tomato soup (8/10): For those who can't eat spice, this is Really REALLY GOOD! It's not too salty, the rice noodle textures were mildly chewy and tasty. I added fatty beef and some vegetables. Overall, the portion given is plenty. - Chili Pumpkin (10/10): A little spice, but this is probably my favorite hands down! The spice has a mild sweet-sour flavor to it. I really enjoyed this. - Shou Zhua Bing (6.5/10): This is basically roti canai with meat. I actually liked the dish. I gave it a low rating because I felt like the meat was cold but I thoroughly enjoyed the roti canai! Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants to try a ramen alternative. ✨🤤

Google
Nice place where I can get a hot soup noodle with an affordable price

Google
Rice noodle itself is not bad at all but the spicy soup taste a bit artificial.

Mari B

Google
Very good soup. Not too salty, big portions. Worth the price. Tastes home cooked :)

Yelp
Ludingji Noodles hits the spot when you're craving hot pot flavors without committing to the full AYCE price tag. They offer a great selection of rich, flavorful soup bases and toppings that bring that hot pot satisfaction in a more manageable portion. Free noodle refills are a huge plus, and the service is consistently excellent--fast, friendly, and attentive. It's a great spot for a quick, comforting meal that still feels indulgent. Perfect when you want hot pot vibes without the full buffet experience.

Yelp
Review is only for the braised pork bone. Was excited to try something new from this place. Got home noticed it was pretty heavy. But after digging through everything I was disappointed. Mainly vegetables, potatoes, a handful of pork pieces (all with bone it big chunks of fat). Flavor was good but wouldn't be ordering this again

Yelp
Ambiance: small little mom and pop shop feel, initial impression was that the restaurant was warm. After mentioning it to the worker, they opened the door after serving all our food and turned on the mini-split Service: I liked that they gave the child in our party a plastic boba cup of water. Food came hot and fast, but I did notice that as the server put down the side dish kelp, the sauce touched her thumb before it was set down Food: I ordered the pepper pumpkin with beef. I thoroughly enjoy the flavor of the soup, it is very unique. Reminds me of the yuzu pepper seasoning from Japan. I did anticipate more pumpkin flavor but not too disappointed with the strong pepper flavor. In terms of the contents of the soup, I did feel it left much room for improvement as there was very small amount of beef and most of the beef was more on the fattier side (like short plate cut). Overall, I do feel that $14 might be a bit more pricier for the product I received, but I can imagine with the improvements made it would be much tastier.

Yelp
I just had the most amazing hot pot! Spicy beef and it tasted amazing!! Now I wish there was a place this good close to me. It was called G4 on the menu and it was beef and lots of spice. The broth aka soup was out of this world. Staff is okay, you actually have to get up and ask them for help Lots of k-pop videos playing

Yelp
This bowl of noodles is $9.99, with a bowl of soup. HUGE amount! Couldn't finish at all. Service is pretty ok, will check up other items soon

Yelp
Every time I visit, I always order his golden soup beef rice noodles. The soup has a smooth and creamy pumpkin base that's full of flavor rich, slightly sweet, and very comforting. The beef slices are tender and juicy, and the portion is generous enough to fill me up every time. It's such a satisfying and delicious dish, I can't help but love it!

Yelp
At LuDingJi, you can find noodle dishes from China's Yunnan Province. I like the noodle wall art. The TV is playing Chinese music videos. House Special Rice Noodles with Beef: This dish is also known a Crossing the Bridge Noodles. You are given two bowls. The first is a scalding stone cauldron containing the soup. Another bowl holds the rice noodles. The rice noodles are thick, round, and slippery. The soup contains a treasure trove of ingredients. For crunch, there's black and white fungi, bean sprouts, and corn. The beef is sliced thin, and the ham boosts the flavor. The quail egg is creamy. You add some aged vinegar or throw in some of the peanuts from the side dish. Parking: Sunny Plaza has lots in the front, back, and underground.

Yelp
WHAT I GOT: - Tomato Soup with Beef Brisket ($15.99) - 8/10 A really hearty soup and noodles when you're craving something warm! I like the tomato base because it's not spicy but they have a lot of great spicy options as well. The rice noodles pair really well and it's always a pretty big portion! Very attentive service as well! LOCATION: - Located in one of the San Gabriel plazas. Inside has a decent amount of seating, mostly for small tables of 2-4 people. PARKING: - Since it's in one of the plazas, there's parking in the front area as well as the back, and they have underground parking as well. The parking in the front can be a bit tight so I like to park in the back. WAIT: - No wait for 2 people on a Friday around 1 pm! NOTES/DEALS: - You can actually ask for extra noodles! I usually like to get two servings - Seems like they're doing an offer when you pay in cash!

Yelp
DON'T EVER COME TO THIS PLACE!!! Went in for their dry mixed rice noodle and found a hair and a blueish tiny part likely from a scrub sponge that they use for washing dishes. Called the lady and she was very impatient and told us that these issues are not preventable. She took out the hair and the blue thing out and walked away without replacing a new one for me. Horrible attitude and food safety!!! We asked her to waive bill for the one that had a hair and blue thing on it but she refused to. I can't believe how a restaurant can continue to operate with this food safety issue and horrible customer service. I've been to the San Gabriel location multiple times and everything went well. Should have bring in health department for recheck and train their servers well enough before they continue to open this place.

Yelp
My brother recommended this spot. Ordered Spicy sour angus beef soup. We didn't find it on the menu when we arrived but a co-worker of his had ordered it to go and the waiter let us order it no problem. Spiciest level mind you. We love Szechuan peppers and the mouth tinging and numbing sensation it brings. This soup was served hot and spicy. Would be the perfect soup to accompany a chilly winter or rainy day. The broth was so yummy! The noodles reminded me of thicker, cellophane like noodles. I wished the noodles were a bit chewier like udon but still not bad with the noodles they served. The waiter didn't come around to check on us but that was ok. We ended up calling him over to ask for water refills and extra napkins. Good experience and i'd go back again.

Katherine C.

Yelp
Food was delicious I got a mala beef hotpot with noodles and everything in the bowl was delicious for around 16$ pretty worth. I had stuff to take home and eat later and fill with my own vegetables again with the soup. Service was extremely good

Yelp
A different vibe of noodle soups has hit the town! Food - 4/5 - You get to choose your soup base, protein and whether you want their fresh made rice noodles or rice as your carb. Any other add-ons are an extra $1-2 depending on what it is. Make sure to chose to have your meal served in the hot pot because it keeps the soup hot the whole meal! The meal comes with bean sprouts, woodear mushroom, ham and other veggies in the broth as well. I chose to go with the house special soup base which seems to be a healthy bone broth with lots of flavour. I got it with beef brisket and rice noodles. I was blown away with how hearty yet fresh the noodle soup was. It was not greasy or heavy at all. It felt very refreshing yet super satisfying. I can't wait to come back and try other soups! Price - $$ - The price range is about $15-20/ person after tax so it's not too bad. Ambience - 4/5 - Cute little shop that has a homey vibe. It seems to be a small business? Very cute and intimate. Service - 5/5 - The server was really kind and patient with us as it was our first time at the restaurant. She answered all our questions and had a very wonderful and cheery attitude. Location - 3/5 - Located in a busy plaza, it may be a bit of a hassle to find parking, but there is underground parking available. The plaza is full of busy restaurants so be aware of that!

Yelp
Noodle Soups!!! Trying Ludingji in San Gabriel and it was delicious. I chose the spicy diced pepper broth and my love chose the tomato broth. Both soups had great flavor and went so well with the house made rice noodles. A perfect rainy day meal. A hidden gem that you must try if you love soup.

Yelp
Gone to this place a few times and the quality is consistent. I get the bone broth/house special with lamb usually and it's great. Super flavorful with the rice noodles. Only place I can find since Dagu closed that's like this so I come often. The service is good, place is on the smaller side and can get pretty warm in the summer.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
My first time at Ludingji was in Alhambra but it burned down and I was so sad. I wasn't aware there were other locations so I was super happy to find this location! Odd thing is, I always come to this plaza to eat at Arirang around the corner so I'm surprised I never saw this establishment. I always get the B1 which is a tomato based soup with angus beef and rice noodle. My other favorite is A1, the house special with angus beef and rice noodle. Both are very rich in flavor and delicious! Ludingji is in a plaza with other establishments and there is basement parking available. Also note that this place requires a minimum of $25 for a debit/credit card payment.

Yelp
09/16/2018 Combo #2 comes with tripe in spicy oil and spicy angus beef with rice noodles on the side. They were out of mango green tea so they offered Beijing plum juice. Very interesting kind of juice since I have never had it before. It has this Smokey flavor to it. It's not K-pop but it's Chinese music videos playing on the TV screens. Sort of a small place with about a dozen tables. I went back Sunday night which is a week after my first visit. I don't quite understand the bad reviews when reading them. It's just a hot bowl of soup with beef, spicy or not spicy. This time I ordered the combo #1 which is a tomato broth with angus beef. The side dish is the black fungus in spicy pepper oil. The waitress/server says they didn't have anymore mango green tea. She tried to offer the Beijing plum juice again. I wanted to try the honey grapefruit drink. She says that's extra cost, I asked her to ok to charge me for the drink. This is a bottled drink and not made fresh. She asked if I want extra noodles, I said yes because that helped me finish most of the broth.

Yelp
Nice noodle place in Sunny Plaza! There is parking in the basement so don't worry if you can't find a spot on the ground floor (especially if you need to park for more than 30 minutes) Ordered A4: House Special Rice Noodle with Beef (牛腩) for $12.99. Before they give you the noodles, they actually give you some banchan-style toppings for you. It's quite cute! These include black and white fungus, shrimp, bits of marinated mushroom, bean sprouts, others and also raw quail egg for you to cook later on when they hand you your soup base. Do be careful about that because the soup comes in a clay pot so it's very, very hot. The noodles were cooked well. Nice and chewy. I just love the soup base because it's flavored nicely. Beef is also nicely marinated but they could give more meat, especially with the price I'm paying at a restaurant in SGV. So, I'm taking a star off for this. Overall, not bad! My friends from China ordered their tomato - flavored noodles and they said it tasted great!

Yelp
Are you polite? We found hair on it when we ate it in the store, so we sent it back. Due to time constraints, we could only take away the food. When we came back to eat, we found hair on the same dish again. We seriously doubt that the dish did not replace me with a new one. They put the dishes I returned earlier into the takeout box. We will definitely not go there again. If you can't publish without giving one star, we won't even give one star.

Yelp
Dined here last night for the first time after randomly picking this restaurant out of hundreds of competitive restaurants in the area. And we were glad that we did. We had a beef burrito, 3-kinds cold appetizer of shredded potato, dried beef, dried tofu; and spicy seafood pot. The beef burrito was yummy. It had a crispy wrap and the dried beef and lettuce inside. The seafood pot was also delicious. We had never had this style of noodle soup before and definitely satisfied our cravings for spicy food. I liked the dried tofu the most out of the 3 cold appetizers. It had the texture like meat but healthier and light. Due to lack of knowledge about this style of food, it was a bit challenging for us to figure out the menu and what to order. We were not sure if we were going to have a soup or noodle, or altogether everything was a big unknown lol However, our waitress was so kind and patient with us thoroughly explaining the menu and answering our questions. More than being professional, her deed alone represents her good character. We truly appreciated her hospitality and the experience we had. I wish that the menu would be more first-time customer friendly to tell about these amazing dishes. We wanted to know the story behind this dishes like history, the origins, character, etc; so that we could talk about the food with out friends and colleagues and come back again!! We love to support small businesses like this.

Maria G.

Yelp
The food taste is average. I think is a little bit over price compare to other Chinese restaurants. They put a little bit meat and noodle. They put to much soup. The place has a smell a little bit. Need a good ventilation. The service is ok.
google avatar

Lily L.

Yelp
Ate there in person today. Taste is still good, but the noodle portion was so small this time maybe before was the difference between takeout and dine-in.
google avatar

Jasmine N.

Yelp
I've gone to all locations and believe this one is the best one for their soup flavor, quality noodles, and service. I usually get the combo #2 with extra noodles and request for more spicy. I like to share with a friend, it's a lot of food and comes with plum juice and tripe in chili oil.
google avatar

Daniel Y.

Yelp
This noodle joint is located by the Yung Ho Taiwanese breakfast restaurant; parking in this plaza is just a tad too tight! This place serves essentially a fusion of Vietnamese pho and shabu shabu hot pot. The guest chooses one out of four soup bases and one type of meat. The entree includes a plate of various toppings that could be added to your bowl of noodle soup, such as corn, bean sprout, and egg, a few to name. However, the toppings are not anything special, and they come in small portions. I ordered the house special, which tasted on the plain side. The precooked noodles came out separate from the bowl, so the noodles are not soaking in the broth. The bowl comes out with the meat and lettuce already inside. I selected the beef, which is served as slices similar to those found in pho. Overall, I found my order to be a simple noodle soup - nothing extraordinary. I actually wish I had gone to a pho restaurant instead!

Yelp
always coming to Rowland heights store and today we are trying out the San Gabriel store, found small cockroach in the soup, disgusts me a bunch. Totally not an A-ranking store as it posts.
google avatar

Doris C.

Yelp
Attention: although they take credit card, there is a $25 minimum. So bring cash or be ready to get charged $1 process fee. This place is a solid 4 star based on the food taste and the to-go container (bowl shape and microwaveable). I ordered the new golden soup rice noodle with pork ribs. I enjoyed the complex flavor from the bone soup, the pumpkin, and the Chinese sourkraut. It is a bit spicy but you can still taste the original bone soup. It comes with 3 pieces of pork ribs and quite a lot of vegetable and rice noodles. Although I wouldn't come here every time I craze a hot bowl of noodle soup because it is a bit pricey ($11.99), it was still a pleasant meal. Side note: this place claims it serves Yunnan style noodle ( guo qiao mi xian), and there is a beautiful story tale behind it. Think more than just not a mixture of Vietnamese and shabu!
google avatar

Miki A.

Yelp
I wouldn't have come here if my friend did not take me here since this restaurant is kind of hidden in a small plaza I never noticed. The interior is bright and clean though. I tried House Special with Angus Beef since it was my first time. It came with a bowl of soup and noodle and more ingredients on the side. The presentation is so cute! Soup was very flavorful although it a little too oily for my taste, but overall, it was very good. If you like Ramen, I think you would like this soup. The portion was a lot for me, so I could not finish noodle. My friend got Hot & Spicy Angus Beef, so I tried its soup, which was also very good! I am already so excited to come back here to try different soup. It's cash only, and our server spoke very little English, but she was very nice!
google avatar

Xiaoying S.

Yelp
Went there on a Sunday night without waiting for too long to be seated. There are quite a lot of options on the menu, including the add-one. All our food were served very fast, although the two dishes were in a plastic box. The pig's intestine was a little greasy, and all of us did not finish. I also added tofu and bean sprouts in the rice noodle which tasted pretty good.

EliZabeth G.

Yelp
The food was Amazing!!! Good portion size plate too. Will come back and try the other soups on the menu.

Yelp
i love it!!!!!I introduced to all my friends already, they all love it Delicious and good service, they even provide aprons when u wear light color clothes
google avatar

Joycee K.

Yelp
My favorite place!!! I go at least 2 or 3 times a month especially the cold and rainy days!! The meal is simple and I prefer a blander taste so this was perfect for me. I usually get the original where there's bunch of toppings you dump in your pot of hot soup w/ noodles or sometimes I get the spicy noodle soup. The price is very reasonable I usually get the $9.99 one, but the higher the price the more stuff there is in the soup.

Ceci L.

Yelp
Not sure why the review rating is so low but OMGaw, soooo delicious! I'm picky in choosing rice noodle soup. I like it to be soft but also chewy, non-spicy soup needs to be flavorful but no strong msg, the meat in the soup needs to be good quality and decent quantity. I have to say the rice noodle soup they offer here meets all my expectations! During COVID, their packaging is really fast and very nice packaging that they separate top section as noodle and bottom bowl as soup, so it's compact and noodle doesn't get soggy. My favorite flavor is tomato beef rice noodle soup! Just sooo satisfied especially when it's cold outside.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite noodle places everrrrrr! I think they use the mi xian noodles, which are smooth and white, for their dishes. As a loyal customer, I've tried all of their soup bases/ flavors (lol), and I can say my personal favorites are the tomato and "house special"? I forgot the name, but it's at the top of the menu and it's the one with the small dishes of toppings that you add in. Super clean soup bases and very flavorful meat. It is served in a hot bowl (really really hot) and you can add in your desired amount of noodles. My only downside to this place is that, for what you're getting, the price is a bit steep. But, for the taste and uniqueness, I will still keep coming back!

Yelp
I was excited about this place after the old place burned down. This was our favorite place to get Yunan noodles. We finally went to relive our fond memory of the palace before.. but alas it turned out to be a mistake. First they changed the credit limit to 25 or more.. that was more than before. But no deal breaker. Then on the table there was a flyer about signing up and getting points.. but it was not clear how to earn them so I tried asking what appear to be the manager.. we saw him from the old place too.. he was really rude and condescending and kept telling me that we won't be earning enough points and didn't provide how points are earned (how much we spent, how many times visited, or how many times we share online).. the manager could care less and just simply told us to Forget about it.. The noodle soup came and we knew right away it wasn't what it used to be.. the soup flavor average, noodles were plastic, and it were just not the same as before. Worst part after we went home our stomachs were seriously upset and bloated.. even after next day my stomach was in serious discomfort.. not sure if it's food poison or over seasoning or not uncleaned food. Very disappointed and can't believe how it went so drastically wrong with the new place. Do not recommend!

Yelp
The noodle soup is very delicious.I like the Pickled vegetable with angus beef rice noodle. This soup is a bit sour and spicy.Yum,the soup is nice.

Yelp
Disclaimer: parking here is horrible! Parking lot is super small and almost always full. It's on a corner so not a lot of street parking opportunities either. I had to park next door at the hardware store after circling the places a few times and not finding any parking. Being a rule abiding person I was having mild anxiety thinking they're gonna tow my car. Anyhooooo. On to the food. The noodles here were on point! Almost worth the anxiety attack. I got the soup broth base with pickled veggies and it was goooooood. The beef they use are the fatty kind you find in hot pots and yoshinoya beef bowls. Melts in your mouth and oh so good. They serve their noodles in the side so you can put in what you wanna eat as you go so the noodles doesn't get soggy. The soup are brought to the table in those Korean tofu type piping hot metal bowls. The soup stayed hot well after I was done eating all the noodles so that was pretty awesome. I also got the pickled wood ear mushroom side dish. It was really tasty. Totally would recommend it. Overall what I had at this place was amazing. The parking sucks so I'll probably only come back during off hours.

Yelp
I came to this restaurant in the beginning of April. Taste: 3 star Wait time after ordering food is long. When the waiter brought us water, her hands were so greasy the cup was smeared with grease. Most important of all. We ordered 2 noodles and one side, which is a total of about $31 dollars. Aside from being expense for the portion of food served, I still wrote a total of $35.00 as food + tip to the restaurant. A few days later, when I checked my bank statement, this restaurant charged me $37.51 as total. Hello?! How do you mistaken $35.00 to $37.51? I had to dispute with my bank to get the credit back. Overall it is not worth it to come back to this restaurant for the hassle it has created.
google avatar

Andrei S.

Yelp
too salty for the soup base this time. I order the restaurant couple times, this time is worse I had. Hopefully the chef will get more attentions for the food and get bet
google avatar

Joyce W.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this noodle place and finally got to try it. My family of 6 pretty much tried all the different broth except for the pumpkin soup. We loved ALL THE soup base. The tomatoes base is super good and the sour veggies one just reminds me of a hot and sour soup base ! The best thing about it is that it's pipping hot!!! The food is served super hot and stays hot in their big pot . Would definitely come back again on rainy days or any day

Yang Y.

Yelp
Great rice noodle!!!! Remind me of my hometown's rice noodle flavor ( i am from the northeast)! Big portion, delicious, tasty broth and many different ingredients in the soup! 和我在大连吃的林芝妹子很像!终于吃到了久违的家乡味
google avatar

Joann M.

Yelp
This is a unique rice noodle place! There are many different ingredients you can choose from, and the pot stays hot for a while to continue cooking. Rice noodle is aside from the soup, you can customize your own noodle soup. Very busy place! Hate the parking - it's a nightmare. I wish they also have stir fried rice noodle, so far there are only rice noodle soup.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
Ok - so the place seems clean enough. Was quite interested in trying it out. Unfortunately, it came out just ok. The wife did not like it much at all though. The portions were quite small, especially for the price. The 'sides' were around... maybe a spoon full each at most? I think they even know that the portions are too small too - given the look on our faces, they threw in extra noodles for free. Just a few slices of meat in a soup that was too oily. Uncomfortably oily. Masks any sort of flavor really. So was not memorable sadly. The service was good - inefficient perhaps due to the new opening but friendly enough. Alas... as much as I wanted to like it... was a bit of a let down... =(
google avatar

Naomi X.

Yelp
Meh didn't like the place at all. Food smelt good but tasted only okay. They were extremely petty about the extras. 1 dollar quail eggs add-on were only for 2 tiny quail eggs, excuse me???
google avatar

Zhen L.

Yelp
come here many times . I order beef brisket noodle always taste good. Service are good too. The house special are famous. Flavor are good. Food are fresh. I recommend beef brisket noodle and add some seamead oil. If you like pickled, must try the pickled noodle. That one always gone too fast. It worth the five star
google avatar

Ray Z.

Yelp
This is gonna be my go-to restaurant! The noodle is awesome! I really like the way they present to you, it looks so fancy, and the important thing is it taste really good, I just hope they have more options for noodle.

Yelp
This place is more like a 3.5 restaurant than a 3. We got here at 12pm on a Saturday and there were a few open tables still. But by 1215 there was a small line which never really subsided throughout our meal. Started off with the spicy tripe appetizer which I wouldn't get again. Tripe wasn't crunch enough nor did it have enough flavor or spice. Would recommend the ribs over the beef for choice of protein since both beef soups had a large amount of oil floating on top. I would also say that the house special soup is better than the spicy since there is way too much hot oil floating on top. Like that the noodles come out in a hot bowl. The chinese style ban chan is kind of weird but can't complain since its free.

Yelp
I ate this noodle several times. No doubt the noodle is one of my favorite. Today I pick up noodle from this store, after I arrived home, I cannot wait to taste it. In few minutes when I was eating, I was shocked at the bug in the soup of noodle, I almost throw up. I got frighten and feel disappointing at the same time. I think I won't trust this noodle restaurant anymore...

Yelp
the service here is the worst I ever had! When I try to order to go, they are reluctant to serve me, they ask me to go to another location, they ask me to go to another restaurant and they tell me the item I want to order is unavailable. So I asked him to recommend a different item, he told me they are very busy right now and refuse to give any recommendations, so I put in order anyways, because I do not want to think another place that might be too far. When I arrive to pick up the food, there is literally only one table on the premise. Also, I saw the item that i want to order, so I confronted the server that the item I want to order is available. Then he reply it's for ppl who dine in. And they insist they are very busy with only one table. I feel like he is simply trying to not serve to go orders, because there is no tips for him.
