Tim,
Because you walked over to our table and berated me for merely requesting to speak to you after you initially refused to come over... Because when you did, you didn't give me a chance to speak... Because you literally yelled and screamed at me -- calling me and my party a "waste of your time" and that you "were busy"... and then turned and walked away, never allowing me or anyone at our table to speak a single word, because of that I'll speak it all here. As the owner, I doubt that you will read this, but it needs to be said-- at least to allow me to express my profound disappointment in the way you treated me and my guests on December 8, 2022.
We made a reservation at your restaurant after a tough day. Our beloved friend received unthinkable news-- the cancer had spread. And it was also her birthday. We tried to salvage what we could of the day and canceled plans at a downtown steakhouse. Ludlow & Prime seemed to fit the bill: close to home and a bit more intimate, in light of our news. We were seated on the bar side of the restaurant and in attendance was my 76-year-old mother, my 16-year-old daughter, and our beloved friends. Our waiter, who was also the bartender, was fantastic. You have a great employee in John. We ordered drinks, a dozen oysters, appetizers, dinner... and Mari ordered a steak, she was looking forward to a good steak all week. We were intent on making a night of it despite the news and John was so attentive and kind -- we were actually succeeding. He apologized three different times about the wait for our food and we weren't bothered. Enjoying one another and celebrating Mari was our main concern. We were plenty hungry when the food did come out. The steak and the mashed potatoes, the most important meal at our table, came to us cold. Our other friend had the scallops which she told John, tasted like Pledge, but she liked pledge, so she would eat it. We all laughed. I so wanted something to be right for Mari though and that's why I asked you to come over. I even told John, that we weren't looking for you to pay for it-- because we were so hungry after waiting for so long that we ate our food...cold steak, cold mashed potatoes and all. I was hoping I could explain all this and perhaps just perhaps-- a special dessert or a special consideration could be made for Mari. You, however, were so stunningly rude and incredibly mean (witnessed by another of your employees) that I truly don't understand how you remain in business treating customers like this. You told me that you saw all our eaten food and we weren't going to get anything for free. We were shocked. And you said this and more with such intensity and fury that your spit flew in my mom's face as you were telling me off for simply requesting your presence at our table. I'm not sure why you arrived at our table so hot, so vile and ugly... spewing all of it without us ever being allowed to speak a single word to you.
My husband came to pick us up and he too asked to speak to you. He waited at the bar for about 10 minutes and you refused to speak to him as well-- telling John that you weren't coming out. We all agreed that this was the single worst experience that any of us have had a restaurant in our lives. We had almost salvaged part of the day until you came along. Human beings shouldn't treat other human beings this way.
