Ludwig’s German Table Is Bringing a German Beer Hall to Mountain View - Eater SF

"San Jose’s Ludwig’s German Table is expanding to downtown Mountain View, taking over the former Bierhaus space at 383 Castro Street. Bierhaus closed in the fall following a landlord dispute — it relocated to Temescal in Oakland — and the building owners announced plans to open their own German beer hall in its place. Eventually, they brought in Ludwig’s instead. It’ll focus on providing a classic German beer garden setting, serving pints of German brews alongside pretzels, sausages, German cheeses, and more when it opens this summer." - Janelle Bitker

Herrlich! (Fantastic!) Really good beer garden, definitely a new favorite in the bay area. The 1L beers are as authentic as it gets, the warm pretzels and accoutrements are better than in Munich, I mean they really put in the extra effort here at Ludwigs. Really very highly recommended, from a true native Bavarian. Chapeau Ludwig & team! Love your work. Prost - auf euch! EDIT: Sappralott (omg!), the veal SCHNITZEL was absolute perfection. The kitchen at Ludwig's is EXCEPTIONAL. Very very solid 5/5 stars. EDIT2; Second visit, reconfirming Ludwig's is incredible. You should go and order a 1L “Helles.” DO IT.

I ordered the currywurst and pommes and the sausage was spicy and flavorful. My friend got the wienerschnitzel which I tried and thought was super bland and basically all breading. I thought the price was definitely a bit steep… 2 entrees and 2 drinks were $78? 😭 and the food quality seems to vary based on the item. I liked the outdoors seating. Service staff were nice.

Google
I went to this place while on a work trip as we were craving some good German food. The sausages were absolutely fantastic. The beer selection was excellent and had something for everyone. I personally had the sausage bites appetizer and the cheese spaetzle dish. Both were extremely delicious and I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in the area.

Google
We had an amazing dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. Everything we tried was fantastic, especially the sliders and the Bratwurstplatte (Sausage Sampler). The fries with cheese were a standout as well. We’re already planning to come back soon to try the Wiener Schnitzel—it’s definitely on our list! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and an excellent atmosphere.

Opinion Worth a Thought

Google
I was there a couple times for team building and college alumni events. Beer selection is great. Food served was good (schnitzel, bratwurst, pretzel, salad) The bartender was great - spending time with me explaining the samples I requested. The rest of the staff was not so friendly - telling the group to stay out of certain area and reminding us the rules

Google
I love their food, especially that they have a variety of vegan options, and that outside is dog friendly. One of my favorite go to places to sit outside on Castro.

I didn’t order any food so I can’t rate it but very nice collection of German beers 🍻. The outdoor seating was great and excellent service.

I’m loved the sauerkraut - it was perfect. Beer has good prices. Service is a bit slow, but the pints a big. Nice crowd.

Yelp
Solid place, delicious food and fun ambience! I recently dined here during Happy Hour with some co-workers. It's been here for a long time and I've been in the area so many times and never stopped here so I'm glad that I did! We are looking at this place for our office Oktoberfest party and I will be back with another review once that's done. I have a feeling it's going to be a good one! We ordered off the happy hour and my favorite was the dumplings. They were vegetarian, tasted a bit like thanksgiving stuffing and the mushroom cream sauce is to die for! I also loved the Jager fries in this amazing curry sauce. Both of these dishes are a must try. They have a lot of vegetarian options and I love that; even though I'm not technically a vegetarian, I often go for vegetarian type dishes and so finding a place that has a lot options is always a huge plus! Especially as German food can be pretty meat heavy. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
We popped in here for a weekend brunch. I love German food so I was excited to try this place. For a German restaurant I was surprised to find a lot of non-German food on the lunch and brunch menu. We stuck to the more German options. We ordered: King's breakfast: 2 Weisswurst (Pork-Veal Sausage), Pretzel and Sweet Mustard, with sauerkraut. The sausage was very good. It was served in some kind of broth, which is not something I've seen before at a German restaurant. The sauerkraut was very good, with a hint of sweetness. The pretzel was tasteless, but the mustard helped amp up the flavor by adding some sweetness and texture from the seediness of the mustard. Chicken & Waffles: Chicken Schnitzel, waffles, and spicy honey The Chicken Schnitzel was dry. The waffles were excellent. The spicey honey was just barely drizzled on a corner of the waffle, so we asked for more of this sweet, sticky, and spicy goodness. Once the extra honey was added, the dish was more balanced and less dry. Service: The service was good at first but it took forever to get our bill at the end. Atmosphere: There are lots of large picnic tables outside under a covered patio. Dining indoors as well. Unfortunately on the day we went we were surrounded by flying visitors - bees. We spent much of the time trying to shoo them away from our meal. Maybe the bees came back for the honey, or perhaps they were German bees who wanted a taste of the Schnitzel, but it was more than a bit annoying. I know they don't eat much, but we had no intention of sharing. Overall, Ludwig's was good, but if you love German food there are much better restaurants to try.

Yelp
I've never had authentic German food before so Ludwig's was a very new and exciting experience for me :) It was very lively for a Thursday evening and the outdoor seating was pretty spacious. With the heat dying down, sitting under the sun was nice. We were seating within 15 minutes and our server was really nice. She gave us a few recommendations (which we went with). We ordered: Taste of Germany Flight Super cute beer mugs and a decent selection to try if you're not sure which to get Hibiscus Bloom Cocktail 4/5 Light and refreshing German Pretzel w sweet mustard 3.5/5 It was good, pretty standard pretzel. The mustard had a small kick to it which definitely stood out. Jagerschnitzel 5/5 This was massive and soo good. Super crunchy and the mushroom sauce and lingonberry jam were amazing. I substituted my spatzle for mashed potatoes and it was creamy and soft. Heisse Liebe (Vanilla ice cream w/ raspberry) 5/5 You can never go wrong with whipped cream! The raspberry sauce was more tart than sweet and made for a light and tasty after dinner treat.

Yelp
The servers were super kind and accommodating. The outdoor seating was really nice and well lit at night as well. The food was very good!

Yelp
A solid 5 star rating!! Since we celebrated his birthday at a German restaurant in 2022, DJ has continued to pick beer gardens to celebrate his special occasions. Through yelp search, LUDWIG'S BIERGARTEN was chosen from the list of German places for our Father's Day, 2024 dinner. Located at the corner of Castro & California Streets in downtown Mountain View, when we drove up, we found street parking across the street right away, so didn't need to look to see if LUDWIG'S has its own private lot. The venue looks more modern than a traditional German beer garden, but you will still find communal tables in the small indoor dining room where the bar is as well as a festive outdoor area with big, long biergarten-style wooden tables and benches reminiscent of an eatery in Munich. This is a great place to watch a game while enjoying a cold, frosty beer in the company of others. LUDWIG'S serves up authentic German cuisine and, to DJ's delight, offers some VEGETARIAN/VEGAN items for non-carnivores. Below are some of the items that we ordered. DJ ordered a Hefeweizen that turned out to be flat and tasted like beer-flavoured water. Apparently, there was an issue with the beer tap. 6 Nürnberger Sausages ($21.00) - We ordered this to share like a family-style appetizer. I had to get some sausage, sauerkraut, and pretzel while here! I didn't expect these brats to be so skinny, though. Jäger Fries ($12.00) - The guys ordered this to share and practically licked the plate clean. Fish N Chips ($24.00) - This was Z's main dish which he said caused a stomach ache because the fried fish were soaking in a puddle of oil and dripped of oil when picked up. Though, the small piece that I had was good in taste as well as crunch. Tropical Bacon Dog ($17.00) - V ordered this with the omission of Pineapple; however, he still found pieces of the fruit on it...and still enjoyed it. The plate appeared small to him at first, but he found his meal to be filling. Jägerschnitzel ($28.50 + $1.00 for Chicken) - This was my entrée. I replaced the Homemade Spätzle with Mashed Potatoes. Can I tell you that I have been dreaming of and drooling over the schnitzel that I had in Austria that was served with lingonberry sauce many years ago? I couldn't find it anywhere until this night. Finally!! I found a schnitzel with lingonberry jam in the States! THANK YOU, LUDWIG'S!! The Mushroom Sauce and Breaded Cutlet were DELISH! Vegan Jägerschnitzel ($28.50) - Kudos to LUDWIG'S for offering a vegan version of Jägerschnitzel and extra bonus points to them for not adding an upcharge for veganizing! DJ super enjoyed this and stated that he couldn't tell that the dish was meatless and dairy-free. You can't get better than this! From the get-go, Sandrine impressed us with her stellar customer service. She was so warm, jovial and accommodating (a cutie, too). For the flat Hefeweizen and oily fried fish, she comped all of our beverages and Z's Fish N Chips. Everyone agreed that we had a wonderful time. LUDWIG'S BIERGARTEN is currently our favourite German restaurant.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour between 2:30pm - 5pm with one other person. We both got Lagers and shared a Happy Hour Sampler. Everything including the beer was light which I really enjoyed. The pretzel was really well made and the wrapped hotdog went good with the sauce. I had asked the server for light beer recommendations and they were very knowledgeable with it!

Yelp
Stopped by for their happy hour after work as my friend and I were looking for a casual place to grab a drink and bite. Ludwig has happy hour until 5pm on weekdays and we made it just in time to order. We ended up just getting a lemonade radler each and the happy hour sampler. The radler was really good - I wanted something light and refreshing and it really hit the spot! The sampler platter comes with a pretzel, 2 spätzle croquettes, sausage bites and house pickles for $20. The food was ok but overall a bit lackluster. I wasn't a fan of the overly sweet mustard sauce that came with the pretzel and the sausage bites were cold when they arrived. Overall, not a bad place for drinks - classic cocktails, radlers, beer and wine are $3 off during happy hour. I would come back for just that but probably not for a full meal.

Yelp
Every time I travel to San Jose to see my daughter, I have to go Ludwig's! Since my last visit, Ludwig's opened their new restaurant in Mountain View and closed the old one in downtown San Jose. The outside seating area is much more inviting at their new location! While it was a bit cool outside, they had plenty of heaters and we had to take off our jackets. Their menu is the same as it was at the San Jose location plus they do have seasonal items. This time around I had to have the Goulash. This was served with red cabbage and potato croquettes. The beef goulash was the best I have had in years, very tender and so yummy! I love the red cabbage the Ludwig's serves and have it every time I visit. The potato croquettes were a pleasant surprise with a nice crunch and smooth middle. Along with my goulash, I had a wonderful Glühwein! Having spent three years in Germany, I fell in love with the warmed mulled wine. On to dessert! I was so full that I almost passed on dessert but I am so glad I didn't! I had the Hot Cinnamon Plums and OMG this was to die for!!

Yelp
My go-to place for authentic German food and beer in the South Bay. I've been here many times and get something different each time, but I know a friend who gets the same thing (the jagerschnitzel) over and over. Something for everyone, I guess! With a bigger group, I'd totally consider ordering the sausage sampler or the Ludwig's Butcher Plate; they look really interesting. I've seen this place's menu change over time, so it's nice to know that they're still trying to come up with new things despite being pretty firmly established and well-known. The venue is fun, too, with plenty of outdoor seating and sports on TVs. I'd have to concur with the other reviews here, though, that warn you to be prepared for a wait, especially during peak times like after work hours on Fridays,

Yelp
Went for the second time and have a similar sentiment to the first time. The food is not bad and the atmosphere is fun but for the cost, I didn't feel like it was worth it. Got the jagerschnitzel with chicken and sausage plate this time and they were both decent. We don't really drink so I'm sure that's a big draw for most people who come here! Definitely fun to try once but probably won't be a regular spot for us.

Yelp
I really wanted to fall in love with this location of Ludwig's. I was a big fan of the San Jose biergarten and was so sad when it closed. This mountain view place has potential. It has a good outdoor space and some of it is covered, with heaters. It has a rather small indoor space with communal tables. All fine. I didn't like that you order at the counter and there is no server. It really changed the feel of the experience. The menu seemed limited as well. And the Jager schnitzel was different. Gravy seemed like it was from a packet, spetzle was very bland, and the schnitzel was a little tough and not as thin as I remembered it. Overall, I would like to try this place at a different time of day, and when there is a large crowd outdoors. I think it might help to have come in the summertime.

Yelp
Came here after doing some work in the area. The restaurant had lots of outdoor seating, including some on the street. The place seemed decently packed, but not super busy - didn't really explain why our server took so long to help us (both before ordering and when we were done to get the check / takeout box). This was the first time we tried German food at a restaurant, so we weren't sure what to expect. We thought about getting the beer flight or a dessert, but our bill was getting a little high. We ended up getting a German Pretzel with Bier Cheese, a Jagerschnitzel, and a Currywurst Mit Pommes. The German Pretzel was pretty good, nice and doughy. The cheese was interesting, not particularly strong in the cheese department and it was a little grainy. The Jagerschnitzel was delicious, super thin with crispy breading, savory sauce, and pairing nicely with the jam. The spatzle was alright, I would have wished it to have some kind of flavoring or sauce. The currywurst was interesting, with a sauce that tasted kind of like ketchup mixed with BBQ sauce. The fries were really nicely fried. Overall I enjoyed the food, I would come here again, but the service was really slow and I hope that's not the norm.

Yelp
Ordered the following: Tomato and Watermelon Salad, Jager Fries, and Sausage Sampler The tomato and watermelon salad with Feta, Mint, Basil and a Sherry Vinaigrette was refreshing with the basil adding a nice bitter taste to the sweetness on the watermelon and sourness of the tomato. The best part of the jager fries was the melted cheese. On the sampler, my favorite was Kasekrainer Sausage; it had a nice spicy taste. The service was quick and prompt. The ambiance is relaxed with outdoor seating and heaters.

Yelp
The patio is wonderful. Shaded and bright with large communal tables. Everyone is friendly and there were a lot of dogs just enjoying the day. The downtown location is great with lots of other Mountain View treats nearby. The side of cheese spatzle stands out as an unctuous, salty, savory delight.

Regina S.

Yelp
Wonderful food and atmosphere! We loved all the outside seating and the food. So many vegetarian and vegan options too. Lots of beer options, but our favorite drinks were the Jäegermeister cocktails.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the best places to gather with friends, eat delicious meal, drink the best beer and have fun. My friends and I celebrated Oktoberfest at this restaurant and loved it. The service is great. I love free decoration at the restaurant, it gives a warm and cozy feeling. This restaurant is located on the Castro Street which gets really busy on weekends. The parking can become a bit challenging, but is doable.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. I drank a single pint of 9% Belgian-style dark ale and it powered me through the entire evening. Probably the best beer I've ever drank. I had planned on getting a good schnitty, but I was tempted by the distinctly American fried chicken sandwich instead. It was fantastic. The vibes on the patio are great too.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was absolutely superb, as a German who's also accustomed to eating in Germany, I felt right at home! If you're new to beer or German beer, get a wheat beer, you won't regret it.

Yelp
I'm sorry to say I've had a poor experience all 4 times I've been to Ludwig's. The final experience was really what pushed me to share my thoughts. The pros: great outdoor space and great beer selection The cons: service is lackluster and slow, the food is overpriced and isn't very good, and the prices are high The last visit I made was for 40 minutes on a Thursday evening (August 3rd). Really, I had 30 minutes and figured we'd pop in for a beer before our reservation across the road. It took the server about 5 minutes to get to us (understandable), and then it took 20(!) minutes to deliver two (!) beers. Yes, they were busy but not THAT busy -- there were open tables. I was 60 seconds away from cancelling altogether when he walked out with the beers. Upon delivery, I immediately asked for the check, which he said he'd come right back and share. It took another 15(!) minutes to get. He then stood over my partner's shoulder as he paid and reviewed the tip options. The pressure to tip the lackluster service was a terrible book-end to the visit. While my recent experience was poor due to the service, my prior experiences were 3-stars at best due to similarly slow/inattentive staff and bland food. Personally, I feel there are better options for beer gardens on Castro.

Yelp
Ludwig's has it's own small parking lot, which is a plus in downtown Mountain View. It is pretty much an outdoor dining facility; We were told the area inside is all bar-seating. Luckily, we found shady seats, and it was not a windy day. The only outdoor issue we had was a pesky wasp that appeared to harass me just as I was putting my leftovers in a container. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel and paid #1 extra to get chicken instead of pork. My husband had the dumplings in a mushroom soup, which came with a salad. I ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. Everything we ordered was excellent, and the service was great. We will definitely return and will probably take a dog or two with us.
google avatar

Sofy Y.

Yelp
Good variety of German beers. Everything in my flight was unique and flavorful. Love that they have rattlers (juice/lemonade & beer) lots of variety, got strawberry cardamom (too much cardamom not enough strawberry) cardamom took over the flavor of whole thing and I had cardamom flavored burps rest of the day. Food is tasty but so overpriced for what it is. Got a sausage plate with mashed potatoes and too much saurkraut and it cost damn near $25 dollars. Not a single entree on the menu was reasonably priced I would say for the food offered For 4 people (food, and 2 rounds of beer it was close to 300) I'm terms of taste, the sausage was good, mashed potatoes were super mid, and the sauerkraut was also just okay. Came here on a Sunday afternoon, not too busy, looks kinda like a sports bar inside. I would come here again for the beer but not the entrees
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
Good food/beer but terrible service. We waited for someone to come take our order and every other table around us got service and food came out right away. Disappointed as everything else was nice, different vendors were there selling goods.

Yelp
I was craving German food after a Sharks game and thought Ludwig's was perfect until I saw their San Jose location had closed! Oh well, this was only a 15 minute drive away to their Mountain View spot. The craving was too strong not to go and it did not disappoint! Plenty of outdoor seating, nice service and hardly a wait to receive the food. Of course had to start with some good bier, followed by spätzle cheese croquettes and sausage bites for an appetizer. My husband and I also shared the classic and delicious jägerschnitzel and nürnberger sausages. The nürnbergers are basically mini bratwursts. The pretzel on the side was warm and soft and the sauerkraut was great as well. I'll definitely be stopping by next time I have another craving!
google avatar

Quoc H.

Yelp
Takeout order: 8/10 Jalapeño Cheese Sausage with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut - portion size really small. Sausage was really good though. A lot of flavor, juicy, cheesy, and 3/10 spicy level. Mashed potatoes and sauerkraut were average. Nothing special there.

Yelp
Everything was delicious; why don't I come here more??? Great to find a patio with great food and an excellent beer selection in Mountain View!

Yelp
To start - all the yes. Grab a seat a liter and fries. Done done and done. Was pleasantly surprised when we decided to stop here for a drink. I'm not from this area and got lost after going to Stanford mall then stumbled upon this place. The atmosphere was pleasant, welcoming and definitely had that home vibe. I definitely recommend this place for groups or even the 3rd or 4th date. The selection - oh so many. Went for the heff since it's easy to drink and the place was going to close soon. Thought it was weird that they closed at 8pm on a Thursday night. So that's kind of a bummer. Would I come back? Sure! But I wouldn't go out of my way to trek an hour to get here. Although, definitely a place to visit when I'm in the area. Until next time (hopefully I get to order from the food menu) c ya later! Cheers!

Yelp
Ludwig's in Mountain View offers a relaxed and delightful German pub experience. The cuisine is both uncomplicated and flavorful. We had the chance to try several beers, savoring the diverse options available. And the service was on point. The patio is a perfect spot to bask in the afternoon sun and unwind. A visit to Ludwig's is certainly recommended! Rating: 4.5 stars

Yelp
First the really good stuff: The German beer on tap was very good. The french fries that we ordered with our meal were very good. The cucumber salad (that came with a white dressing) was very good. Now for the really bad stuff: We ordered the wiener schnitzel, which is supposed to be made with veal. Although the wiener schnitzel was huge in size, and it looked very good, it did not taste like veal-- not even close !!! In fact the wiener schnitzel tasted absolutely terrible ! It was the worst wiener schnitzel that we have ever eaten. It tasted so bad that we actually asked our waiter to verify that the schnitzel was made with veal. The waiter said yes, the schnitzel was made with veal. We will not being back to Ludwig's. If you like the taste of veal, go to Original Joe's in San Jose and order the Breaded Veal Cutlet, or the Veal Cutlet Milanese, or the Veal Parmigiana. You won't be disappointed.

Emma D.

Yelp
Great schnitzel and kolsh!!! The service was fast and checked on us multiple times. The vibes were great, clean tables, pretty lights, and right in the downtown strip. Super fun place!

Yelp
I was so sad to find out the Ludwig's in downtown SJ closed but luckily the one in Mountain View is still going strong. Came on a Saturday around 5 and it was open seating. They have a good amount of outdoor seating, pretty limited indoors. The menu has so many tasty options it's hard to narrow it down, almost as hard as deciding what beer you want and what size. The pretzels are delicious as is the bier cheese. We got fries, cheese sausage bites, Nürnberger Sausages and Spätzle. All of it super delicious! The servers are super friendly and will allow you to try different beers before settling on one. Definitely will be back again!

Yelp
Just a few notes about this place: 1. Parking can be tough during busy hours, but there is a parking structure bit further down. 2. Bathroom is clean, but not managed often enough. (I think paper towels / toilet paper were out) 3. The beers are good, tasty, and has a decent selection 4. The food is pretty good taste-wise, and also good for sharing. 5. Service was really good and attentive, cheerful attitude. All in all, this is a casual and chill hangout spot with a good selection of drinks (including wine!, mixed beer drinks, beer), and a good selection of tasty food to share. I'd definitely come back to visit with friends

Yelp
Went to Ludwig's 2 weeks ago. We have walked by it many times and always wanted to try it. So glad we did! We started with the potato pancakes with salmon and crème fraiche- delicious. Three perfect pieces and so yummy! For our entree, we split an order of the Jäegermeister schnitzel. It was huge and topped with the most amazing mushroom sauce! The schnitzel was on a bed of spaetzel (sp?). The whole meal was great. For drinks, I had a perfect Riesling and hubby had a beer. Pours are extremely generous. Service was excellent - very friendly and professional. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food is great! Their strawberry beer is a must! Service and atmosphere is great. Definitely check them out

Yelp
Beer of the Dark Happy Oktoberfest! With Oktoberfest coming to an end (fun fact: despite the name, Oktoberfest usually runs from mid-September to the beginning of October), we really wanted to get out and enjoy some German food--and beer!--to celebrate. Remembering the great meal we had back in March at San José's Ludwigs Table, we decided to check out its sister restaurant in Downtown Mountain View, Ludwig's Biergarten. The menu features lots of German comfort food, as well as some vegetarian/vegan-friendly German options and a gigantic list of German and local beers. The Good: *Loved the ambiance and atmosphere here more than the SJ one. *Fantastic Dog-friendly outdoor space *Service was good and friendly *As mentioned above, the beer list is large and features a lot of classic German draughts. *Jägerschnitzel was unreal. So crispy and the mushroom gravy was full of flavor, and I couldn't stop eating it. The concomitant Spätzle (egg noodles) was also fantastic and has a nice toothsome bite. *Carissa opted for a slightly healthier dish and ordered the Quinoa Carrot, which was surprisingly excellent. It had a really good crunch on the patties, and the basil mashed potatoes were a nice touch. The Meh: *Bacon Spätzle Croquettes weren't as good as the ones we had in SJ. The exterior wasn't as crisp, and the aioli dipping sauce was a bit bland compared to the sweet and savory sauce we had back in March. *Parking in DT Mountain View can be hit-or-miss, so plan accordingly. The Ugly: *We both would've killed for some Rotkohl (sweet and sour cabbage) with both our meals. Def would've put both of them over the top. TLDR: Fantastic German food in a great location with nice ambiance and service. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We came for dinner and enjoyed some sausages, the Kaiserkrainer plate. Sausages were good, but not a fan of the purple sauerkraut. That was a disappointment as I love German sauerkraut. The pretzels were average, but the cheese sauce was good. Mashed potatoes were excellent. Their bench seating is pretty old and rickety. Could use improvement there. Also, beer came out with food. Would have been nice if it came out right away. All in all a nice visit.

Yelp
Sausages and cabbage! Oh yes! The waiter, who was fantastic, giggled a bit when I ordered a back up bowl of pea soup, because the serving sizes were huge! The hubby ordered sausage (3 options to choose) with mashed potatoes and cabbage, with the most delicious horseradish mustard! Pure and simple comfort food -easily 2 meals in one order. More yay! Also, the waiter brought a taste of the mulled wine they make for the season (and sell through the end of January) oh my goodness, more comforting deliciousness! Totally worth a stop in downtown mountain view. Prices were more than reasonable-great for any age and group size.

Yelp
Ended up ordering with our eyes and not our stomachs but everything was delicious and the staff are very friendly even if some are new. Place is clean and was nice to squeeze us in before they closed. Hard to find German places. Too bad I didn't try their beers. Everything was big portioned too!

Yelp
Outdoor seating preferred. If you're a beer drinker then it's a plus . Being a 'Biergarten' they tend to specialize in the field of yummy beers. Tons of options! We had a little wine, a wine-based cocktail and a beer. Enjoyed an awesome salad and a Mediterranean style flatbread . Friendly people and a helpful staff in an upbeat and trendy part of Mountain View. Will come back to experience their plethora of dishes from Deutschland.. Das ist Güd!

Yelp
I've visited a few times now, mainly for there beer, but the food is really good as well. Beer variety is decent, a lot of German, as well as some local brewies on tap. Gotta try there liter stien size of beer if you like beer! Limited seating inside, mostly outdoor seating. I usually order jagerschnitzel and spaetzle. Food is super tasty, perfect beer pairing. The pricing for everything is on the high end. This is the reason why I have not come back more often. 4 stars because pricing for what you get

Yelp
Went here for lunch and it had nice outdoor seating and great ambience I ordered the Jägerschnitzel with pork and it tasted delicious! It came with a side of cranberry sauce which I thought was a little unusual but it gave a good accent with the other side (I forgot the name of it but it's like a puffy soft pasta) The pretzel was nice and warm! It is normally served with mustard but I ordered their beer cheese to try it out- it's a bit tart but overall I liked it! The dessert was pretty good too! It's a dog friendly location and the service was great! The food was a little pricy but it was nice to try. When paying they just tell you the bill verbally and have you pay with the handheld machine. I recommend asking for a copy of your receipt just in case to make sure that they put in the correct items. The parking lot is a little small but there is available street parking close by

Yelp
Came for a midweek lunch. Very good friendly service. Great German beer. Enjoyed the Reuben sandwich and side salad. Would order again.

Yelp
i have always walked by here on castro but never visited until today! they have a cute atmosphere for big groups with lots of large outdoor benches and string lights. we were a party of 2 and shared a picnic table with another couple at the other end. we started off with a couple of sours and ciders which were all delicious. they have a pretty extensive list of beers on tap and more rotating bottles. for food we got schnitzel pork and the jalapeño sausage. i'm usually not a fan of sauerkraut but this one was delicious, served warm. the schnitzel was also excellent and super crispy with a creamy mushroom sauce on top. the total for 2 entrees and 4 drinks was ~$100, so it is a little on the pricier side. however, all of the food and drinks were excellent so i think it was worth

Yelp
LOVE their schnitzel, pretzel, beer selection, and outdoor seating! I had the best schnitzel ever in Prague and this is as close as I've been able to find in my area (still need to try a few more places but it's pretty damn good here). The crunch is there as well as the flavors. The gravy mushroom sauce is also lighter than it looks; lovely combo. The spaetzle is a little underwhelming but I actually don't know what good spaetzle is supposed to taste like. It has a mild flavor that I suppose a side should have when the main attraction is so flavorful. The lingonberry jam is also bombbb. Also tried their schnitzel sandwich, which is delicious but I prefer the plate. The pretzel we always order two; love the cheese and mustard dips! Lots of seating. Staff is friendly. Service is speedy. Dog-friendly patio. What's not to like?!

Yelp
My husband and I ate here for a Sunday lunch. We sat on the patio with our dog, who was provided with a bowl of water by the server. The jager fries were delicious, We also enjoyed an apple strudel and the Pineapple Express was awesome! We'll be back.

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere and friendly service. I have never eaten here, only stopped for a beer on a few bike rides. They have a very nice beer selection, but it's also very expensive. Over $11 for a half liter including tax, tip, and an extra 3% "living wage" fee that I was only aware of after I had already paid. I don't have any problem with a business raising its prices to cover costs, but it would be more honest to just include it in the menu prices. Let customers decide what to order based on the actual price without surprise fees. Many customers will simply tip 3% less on repeat visits, which will have the effect of negating the city-mandated wage.

Yelp
Five star review. Ludwig's messed up forgetting two of our three entrees. Had to reorder and wait. They recovered. Apologized profusely. The manager gave us a free dessert plate and discounted the bill. Excellent customer service!!!!!!

Yelp
Came here a couple days ago to catch up with some friends. Amazing spot for a quick bite. The food hits the spot, I got the cheese sausage bite as an appetizer and it was great. The sausage was juicy and the breading made it crunchy, along with the sauce it came with for an extra layer of flavor. I also got the sausage plate and you're able to choose between different types of meat (including a vegan option if needed). I believe I got the Thüringer bratwurst that tasted amazing. It was very succulent and wished I ordered more . The service was fast to get seated, order food, and receive the food. We came during a busy hour around 7 pm on a Tuesday night and still were able to be seated pretty quickly. There's a lot of outdoor seating and some indoor as well. I love the vibe of eating outdoors on a nice day and it wasn't too cold either. Only issue I had was finding parking as it is downtown. They have their own parking lot, but it's pretty small for about 5 cars only. I had to park on the street a couple minutes away by walk which wasn't too bad.

Yelp
We did a double date at Ludwig's for dinner and had a wonderful experience. We came on Saturday evening (5:30pm) and the seats got filled up fairly quickly, so come a but early. The butcher plate was more than enough for 4 adults. The butcher plate consisted of giant pork knuckles, smoked pork chops, pretzel, schnitzels, sausages, mashed potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut, and more. I really appreciated Ludwig's for having 0.2L beer glasses; it gave me the option to try a large variety of beer. Lastly, the server was very welcoming and kind.
