Luigi Pomata

"The energetic owner has brought new life to this restaurant following renovation work which has made it even more modern and comfortable. Fish and seafood take pride of place on the menu, with a focus on raw dishes and tuna from Carloforte (owner-chef Luigi’s home town), as well as an interesting business lunch option at midday. More traditional cuisine is served in the bistro (now in the street parallel to the restaurant), while aperitifs and fashionable cocktails can be enjoyed in the lounge-bar next door." - Michelin Inspector

We had a great evening at Luigi Pomata. We took the tuna tasting menu. The food was good though not as special as we hoped for. The chef advise us on very good wines, the service was very kind and made no issue when we asked to swap desert for cheese for instance.

We had the experience tasting menu which is based on tuna products, together with wine selection from Sardinia territory. The 7-plates menu doesn’t surprise me. The wine selection is not explained as much as I would expect. The price goes too much over, compared to what is offered.

My first time in Cagliari couldn’t have started with anything less than Luigi Pomata, arguably the best restaurant in the city. I had the Menu Degustazione which, at that price of Euro 85, is a bargain for the quality of the food I was about to have. Their speciality is tuna, but, be aware, this is not just tuna, it THE BEST TUNA that you will ever eat in Italy, possibly in Europe! This red tuna, tonno rosso in Italian, and the way they cook it is nothing short of magnificent. The full list of what I had is in the picture of the menu, and everything was incredible, from start to finish. The flavours are delicate and strong in the sense of packing a punch without overwhelming the palate. This is great cooking that constantly delivers excellence but does not make a fuzz about it. They prefer delivering fantastic food without fireworks or too much noise. The fireworks come towards the end, when, after finishing the meal, I noticed a dessert that I did not notice when reading the menu. This is an homage to Grant Achaz of A linea in Chicago, but it’s done in Sardinian-Luigi Pomata style, and it’s a feast of chocolate, fresh fruits, and much, much more . I saw it on the table of a dining couple near me, and had a serious attack if food envy. So much so that I ordered it, despite the fact that I had finished my meal already. I’m glad I did ! The service, from the chef, Luigi himself, who comes to the table in person to advise and, for some dishes, serving them to you himself, to the waiting staff, to the Sommelier, everybody was friendly, caring, smiley, and sweet. A perfect experience that I will probably repeat as soon as I’m back in Cagliari. Thank you to all of you !

Great taste experience and service! Amazing parmigiana and dessert, monkfish could be more interesting, but overall it’s a very good experience, highly recommend this place. Cozy and sophisticated atmosphere and gentle attitude to customers.

Really excellent cooking with Michelin star aspirations. Look out for chef patron Luigi - you can’t miss him, he’s the one with the outlandish glasses. He loves tuna and it shows. Don’t miss the signature Nicolo linguine that’s been around for years!

We’ve had an amazing experience at Luigi Pomata. The beef fillet was full of flavour, medium to perfection, literally melting in your mouth while the cuttlefish rice had a unique delicious taste, al dente. The restaurant atmosphere, however, seemed quite serious.

Delicious food, wine, and experience! The Chef is great and is the one who personally takes your order, and suggests the dishes based on your tastes. We as Portuguese were even more impressed when we met a member of the staff who’s also Portuguese and started speaking to us in our language. The food I got is attached in pictures and it was absolutely delicious. We paid a total of €200 with a very good wine at €75, so if we had only got water it would have been €125 which is pretty decent for the two course dishes + dessert we got.
