New Bay Area Restaurant and Cafe Openings to Know in May 2025 | Eater SF

"The grocer opened a new location in the former Lemonade spot on Ninth Avenue; the write-up notes the fervor and fanbase for the shop and that journalist Paolo Bicchieri "was once a shift lead" there." - Dianne de Guzman

Behold! A New San Francisco Location of Luke’s Local Opens in the Inner Sunset | Eater SF

"Opened Thursday, May 15 as the brand's fourth location at 1266 Ninth Avenue, this outpost has quickly drawn steady foot traffic: customers were already buzzing in and out of the front doors, outdoor tables were filled, and staff were still stocking the last of the goods on the shelves. Visitors can expect a hearty butcher counter, produce section, dry and frozen goods, and more; the shop takes over a former location of the chain restaurant Lemonade." - Dianne de Guzman

Luke’s Local Is Taking Over a Huge Ninth Avenue Location in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Reported by the San Francisco Business Times in January 2025, owner Luke Oppenheim had already secured the lease at 1266 Ninth Avenue for the former Lemonade location; Lemonade closed in 2019 and that outpost was the restaurant chain’s biggest San Francisco site at some 3,500 square feet. Permit signage outside the building confirms the new grocer is coming to the Inner Sunset's busiest corridor, and the nearly six-year vacancy at the address is notable given the block's other tenants and its status as a gateway to Golden Gate Park. The forthcoming fourth location is expected to be similarly sized to the chain's other outposts and, based on the brand's 15-year run, will likely offer high-end produce, coffee, sandwiches to-go, and goods from local producers such as chocolatiers and bakers that it sometimes is the only source carrying. The operator did not respond to interview requests before publication, and the shop is slated to open in May." - Paolo Bicchieri

I’m thrilled to have the new Luke’s Local right across the street! The whole community is buzzing about it, and it’s easy to see why. Their selection and variety are top-notch, and the meat counter offers some of the best quality cuts around. The staff are incredibly welcoming, making every visit a pleasure. I’ve also not had anything from their grab-and-go area that has disappointed. Particular standouts are the chicken salad, potato salad, and spicy vegetarian spring rolls. While the prices might be on the higher side, it’s clear that you’re paying for exceptional, locally-sourced products. The quality justifies the cost, and I couldn’t be happier with this addition to the neighborhood. Five stars all the way!

Luke’s Local looks good on the outside, but once you’ve shopped here a few times, the shine fades. You’ll find some decent pre-made meals and sandwiches, but in a neighborhood like the Inner Sunset — where Arizmendi, Yellow Submarine, and even Gordo’s burritos are just steps away — the bar is high, and Luke’s just doesn’t justify the price tag.

I like that there are ready made and hot foods available, butcher counter, and their produce is also great. The rest of the store is pretty basic, limited selections and a bit overpriced compared to other small stores in the neighborhood. Overall, nice environment but not my place for everyday shopping.

Checked out the new Luke’s Local in the Inner Sunset and really liked it. The space is super clean and bright, which makes a big difference. It feels elevated the second you walk in… upscale but not pretentious. You can tell they’ve put thought into the layout and selection. At first glance, there were a lot of unique items I haven’t seen in other grocery stores around here. I didn’t do a full shop, but I wandered the aisles and found a bunch of interesting stuff: $28/lb free-range ribeye steaks, some sparkling water brands I’d never heard of (a few even on sale), and a surprisingly good beer, wine, and liquor section. It definitely leans more curated than comprehensive. One standout was a Korean-inspired lager: a collab between Fort Point and San Ho Won. Super smooth, a little hoppy, and kind of nostalgic. Perfect for warm weather or just hanging out. It reminded me of summers in Asia. This probably isn’t where I’d do a huge weekly grocery haul, but for high-quality ingredients, snacks, drinks, or prepared meals, it’s a great option. Also just a nice place to browse! everything feels fresh and well-presented. Overall, really glad this opened up in the neighborhood. Beats another chain store or empty space. Looking forward to going back and trying more stuff.

I picked up a few groceries and was happy to see they had some good specials, which made the prices pretty reasonable. But when I checked my receipt, none of those discounts were applied at checkout. Otherwise it was a great experience and I’m happy to have this shop in the neighborhood!

I visited your 9th ave location today 8/31/25 8am. I was excited to see the place finally open and wanted to check out the store. Many things inside looked good and delicious try buy and try, however the issue was getting somebody to assist me. In the small building, I saw one cashier, a clerk in the produce area, another clerk filling non alcoholic beverages, a clerk at the coffee stand, and a clerk inside the back swinging door. With this amount of associates, I surely would get assistance at the meat counter. I even noticed the back swinging door associate looking at us a few times. Mind you, we were the only customers in the store. After a few minutes of waiting, i decided to say hello loudly but nobody responded. I then see a Female worker, i think red hair glasses? I could be wrong. I looked at her and loudly asked if she works here. And she did not respond and walked away. We were 5 ft apart. Meat butcher counter to the produce area distance. Not far. Not busy either. After being ignored for 5 minutes I decided leave the groceries I was intending to buy at the ready made food area. Nobody stopped me, nobody asked if i needed help. I even muttered loudly that this was ridiculous. How can this be fixed? How can this be remedied? I myself am a grocery store manager with 50 associates in my team, but to see a small store with 6 people on the sales floor not acknowledging a customers once or helping them, especially at 8am, seems ridiculous.

Yelp
Luke Local has expanded to 9th Avenue ( not street) and it's a great new location in the Inner Sunset of San Francisco. This is a good spot to go on a drink or food run before , during or after going to Golden Gate Park nearby. This place has a good selection of meats and seafood along with quality of different drinks available. There are aisles of bottle alcohol and plenty of food to match it inside. A good place to grab and go. Go to a store which is local but this location is new where you can pick up a bottle of wine or a cold brew IYKYK but I already knew one of the best places to get last minute groceries in the Inner Sunset is at the Luke Local located on 9th Avenue

Yelp
Very friendly staff, compact but diverse fruit and produce section, and a great meat and fish counter (one thing Luke's always seems to have is high quality salmon). Intelligently stocked, for example, not a huge bread selection (but the basics are there) since Arizmendi's is 100 yards up the street. But if you like to shop for fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy every few days, and live nearby, Luke's can't be beat. I was skeptical since my only other regular Luke's location was North Beach, but I was happy to have the skeptic in me proved wrong these last few weeks.

Yelp
Very happy to have Luke's open on our street. Great selection of cheeses, fruit/veg, fish & meat. Jane bread delivered daily! Made to order sandwiches are delicious but a little small for price. Sightglass coffee at the window. Just a perfect curation of products for a daily shop.

Yelp
Tried their breakfast sandwich and it was dummy! The service was fast and the store looks chic.

Yelp
Beautiful and immaculate display presentation, friendly and helpful staff, compact space but has quality essentials. Beautiful flower bouquets, better than WF pricier bunches. A large, notable non-alcoholic selection. Will return!

Yelp
Great store. Amazing meat and fish counter, beautiful produce, lots of quality good stuff you can't find at Andronicos anymore, and centrally located. Plus the picnicking possibilities are enticing. Better than whole foods, and closer too.
