These New Orleans Restaurants Are Open on Mardi Gras Day | Eater New Orleans

"Smack dab in the heart of Mardi Gras action, Lula will open at 8:30 a.m. and serve its regular menu all day, until 9 p.m. or the last truck parade passes by. Try the boudin egg rolls, chicken and sausage gumbo, or crawfish mac n cheese, but the fried chicken sandwich and the burger are two more fine options." - Beth D’Addono

Have been here on a girls' trip a couple of times, but this was my first visit with my family. It's still one of my favorite restaurants in NOLA. Our child is a selective eater, and I called beforehand to see if there were kids' menu options. They prepared wonderful (and huge!) chicken tenders that were perfect! Our server (Emma) was wonderful and made our visit memorable! I'm looking forward to returning the next time I'm in town.

Google
Excellent service, atmosphere and food! We enjoyed Creole slaw with salmon and blackened redfish (Market) with roasted veggies. The bread pudding and chocolate torte are to die for! Monica provided excellent service and a great smile! Early in our week, we will be back!

Google
Great food, drinks, and excellent service in a laid-back environment 👌 The skirt steak was SO good, and I loved their mojito. If you go between 11am-3pm, there's a bottomless vodka cocktail bar.

Google
First night in NOLA and we found this gem. Lula Restaurant exceeded all of my expectations! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of modern and cozy. The staff was incredibly attentive, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. The food was nothing short of phenomenal. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The menu offered a fantastic variety, and everything we tried was delicious. You can tell the chefs put a lot of care and creativity into each plate. The ambiance, paired with great service and mouthwatering food, made this a truly unforgettable dining experience. I can’t wait to come back and highly recommend Lula Restaurant to anyone looking for a perfect night out!

Google
I was concerned about it being a distillery and that was a mistake. The food was so amazing!! We had a couple of appetizers (fried green tomato was awesome), blackberry glazed ribs, crawfish Mac and Cheese, bacon wrapped shrimp. The cocktails were very good. (Old Fashioned and vodka pomegranate lemonade). Such a relaxed atmosphere with great service. I totally recommend this place!!!

Google
Stopped in the way I to town and shared two flights, one whiskey the other white spirits. The lady serving us was polite, informative and friendly. May go back for dinner. Certainly worth a stop. It’s also the same name as our dog so would have been rude not to stop😀.

Bad Review: I typically afford restaurants a second chance following subpar service or food. However, I will not be extending that courtesy to this establishment. After a wonderful experience in Vegas and a delightful Mothers Day brunch at a 5-star hotel restaurant upon returning to New Orleans. I made reservations last night and was thoroughly unimpressed with my visit to Lula Restaurant & Distillery on St.Charles Ave. While the host was pleasant, the waitress was inattentive, after waiting about 8 minutes, she slams down a pitcher of water and glasses without so much as a greeting. Her behavior continued as I watched her talking or texting on the restaurant floor. I addressed my concerns with the manager and promptly walked out. In contrast, I left there and went to a restaurant on Magazine St it was exceptional, with top-notch service from start to finish. It is clear that service is a crucial factor in determining a restaurant's success. Lula Restaurant Distillery needs to call an employee meeting!!! I am #diningwithdyanne 😡

Google
I ordered the crawfish Mac N Cheese and the ginger whiskey sour (frozen). It was delicious 😋 Our waiter, David, was so nice and helpful. Bottomless vodka for 20 bucks with a variety of mixers, can't go wrong with that! Great atmosphere and they accommodate large to groups. Definitely recommend.

Jwan H.

Yelp
Grate food and service with a very warm atmosphere. Drinks are very good specially the drinks made by Tnik, she's the best . The lamb chops are my favorite with a hurricane or two. I love this place
google avatar

Yelp
Bottomless vodka for only $20! It was Lula Restaurant Distillery's spin on a Bottomless Mimosa I guess, but I'm not complaining. Even though I went during the Swiftie's take over, there wasn't a wait and service was great. Jalen, dressed as the grim repear, was what I like in a server...attentive but not overbearing and knowledgeable about the menu. If I could have gone back the next day, I would have. Everything, was delicious, even the fried pickled merlitoin. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
I would definitely come here specifically for the bottomless vodka deal at brunch. Their distillery produces an amazing product and for $20 it is a wonderful deal for many great-tasting drinks. Our waiter generously kept the vodka flowing for our party as long as we wanted. My pork skewers were tasty and the french toast was very good. The avocado lump crab dip was unsalted guacamole with a little bit of crabmeat that you couldn't taste mixed in. I hope they take that one off the menu. Our waiter was inexperienced but still very nice to us and seemed happy to serve us.

Yelp
oh my goodness, the food was amazing. The drinks were amazing. The atmosphere is amazing and the service was... yep, amazing. We came here a bit late after flying into New Orleans and getting to our Airbnb. Lula was right down the street so we went for it, so glad we did.
google avatar

Yelp
Spacious, high ceiling restaurant with large tv's. We stopped on a Sunday night after drinking at Hot Tin nearby. Not too busy, friendly staff, good staples.
google avatar

Wilnesa C.

Yelp
I visited this distillery roughly 20 minutes before they closed, just to grab a quick drink. Once I sat down at the bar and looked at the menu, I couldn't help but to order the crawfish queso. I mean...why not? It first came out slightly warm, so I sent it back for them to warm it up more. Regardless of the temp, it was surprisingly delicious. I ate every last bit! When it comes to the drinks, I'm usually a stout girl when choosing a beer, but they didn't have any stout options. The beer the bartender recommended was really good, so I didn't mind. The experience overall was enjoyable. I'd definitely come back to try out more of the menu.
google avatar

Erik H.

Yelp
Best thing on the menu was the crawfish queso. Drinks were good. The Blackened Market fish, was way overcooked and felt rubbery. The overall ambiance was nice, but service was subpar. Waited over 20 min for a drink. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. What I believe was the manager came and asked how was everything but we said 'ok but we have been waiting for our drinks for a moment. She came back right away. She was very nice and helpful. I was stoked for the positive reviews I read, but unfortunately this wasn't it.
google avatar

Grace F.

Yelp
"Thank you, Lula, for an amazing lunch! The food was absolutely incredible. Big shout out to ED HARRIS the manager on duty today--he really took great care of us and made our experience unforgettable. What a perfect way to end the week here in NOLA!" from Orange County Cali
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
Great place on St. Charles Ave. food was amazing, so good in fact we went back the next day. Spicy chicken sandwich was the best! Frozen pomegranate lemonade was my favorite drink! The rum was also good and we got a bottle to bring home. Service each night was great, everyone was friendly! Loved the outdoor patio!
google avatar

Colette L.

Yelp
The ambiance was beautiful. A distillery with a beautiful view. The waitress was friendly and nice. The food was just okay. They also needed salt & seasoning on the food. The lamb chops were good, the mashed potatoes were bland and extra clumpy. The skirt steak was a lil tough. The osso bocco was huge but it shouldn't be in a bowl. It was hard to eat the grits under them. The Brussels sprouts was good. The Cesar salad was less dressing and over amount of Parmesan. The Mac n cheese was good but the gumbo wasn't. Not sure if I will come back

Yelp
First night in NOLA and my friend and I decided to eat at Lula. We ordered Crawfish queso - So basic of us but it was really good and the fact that they served it with wonton chips that did not have even a whisper of grease was a superb bonus Fish of the day (red fish): Firm and cooked perfectly with generous but not overpowering seasoning Shrimp brochette - Fat mac daddy shrimp stuffed with tasso and poblano and wrapped in bacon? Hell yeah. My only feedback is maybe instead of the mountain of mashed potatoes it could be served with Dauphinoise potats Planters Punch - Stunning. Using the run they distill on site, this cocktail was strong and sweet without being grossly syrupy or sugary. Service was amazing and it is obviously a well liked restaurant by locals.
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
What can you improve on?? Everything!! Service slow as a snail. Good horrible, drinks poor quality. People look at how they do the bill for parties of 10. Avoid here low quality food service and drinks. Plus the place is freezing cold. I am from Dallas this place would not last 4 weeks.
google avatar

Mandy L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and had a great time Pros: - Everyone loved their dishes, and I particularly enjoyed the grilled Gulf fish - After trying all the desserts, I'd rank them as follows: Southern Bread Pudding, Lemon Ice Box Pie, Chocolate Torte, Peace Pie Purse - Didn't catch the waitress' name but she was amazing (got a photo of her!) - Loved how they have circular tables, great for group dinners Cons: - None!
google avatar

Meridena K.

Yelp
Second time here, came back because it was so good, and I wasn't disappointed. Lovely old converted barn (I think) so it's very open and airy. Unfortunately, it was frigid inside so bring a heavy wrap or something. Food was excellent. Fresh gulf fish, salads had lovely touches and the dressings were fresh made-thumbs up for the poblano ranch, yummm. Cocktail menu was great. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Madison E.

Yelp
The best brunch and the service was insanely amazing thanks to TINK!!!!!!! Bottomless vodka is the move!!!!!
google avatar

Charlie B.

Yelp
Years ago now I rated Lula's a 3, because tho it was good, a lot of the dishes are very sweet. Maybe my tastes have changed, but I've been loving Lula's a long time now and it really deserves all 5 stars. Again, for what it is. But it's great for brunch or lunch, and the food has a nice local feel in addition to being delicious. The staff are great, the ambiance is high energy, and in mice weather the patio is lovely too.
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
We stopped in for drinks and received the best customer service from the bartender,Sam, who recommended the best drinks and made the experience exceptional. Will be back
google avatar

Taylor V.

Yelp
Our last night in town and my partner and I decided to come here. It was a ten minute walk from our airbnb. The place wasn't busy and the weather was very nice so we sat out on the patio. We decided to order the fried green tomatoes, steak salad, and bread pudding for dessert. Everything was so good, I wish we would have come here the first day and not the last. The service was fast and friendly.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
We had a company dinner here with about 20 people. The service was great. We started with drinks. I had the Bees Knees and the Vodka Pomegranate Lemonade. The latter was my favorite of the two. For dinner I had the Pork Osso Buco, with cheese grits and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were so good. They almost tasted like candy. I almost wanted to order another side of them, they were that good.
google avatar

Stacia G.

Yelp
On our visit we took the trolley to come visit this spot. They make their own spirits and do premade drinks- at the ready- no waiting! Large space, bright and welcoming with plenty of NOLA flair on the walls and hanging from the ceilings. We did some appetizers and beverages. Most if not all the things are made in house- like cola! So cool- and tasty!
google avatar

Abbey S.

Yelp
I came for dinner with a bunch of friends and it was nice! The inside of the restaurant was cute and it was in a nice area! The piña colada was really good! I got a grilled chicken Caesar salad and it was pretty good, although the portion size was kinda small for the cost. Overall, a pretty decent restaurant but I'm not dying to go back.
google avatar

Deirdre T.

Yelp
Father's Day lunch literally done perfectly. I wish I would have remembered to ask our servers name because she was so attentive and intuitive with anticipating our needs. We were a family of 5 (3 kids and 2 adults) celebrating Father's Day. She took the kids orders first so they wouldn't be hangry and allowed my husband and I to discuss a few minutes longer before ordering. It's the simple things! Am I right?!? My husband definitely enjoyed the bottomless vodka bar and mixes and I enjoyed the frozen pomegranate daiquiri. The Blacken gulf fish with grilled veggies and dirty rice with a crawfish cream sauce was perfectly. I could have licked the plate. My husband really liked his chicken sandwich. The kids enjoyed their fried fish and French fries. The dining room was full with patrons but they had the tables spaced nicely so it didn't feel crowded. The bathrooms were clean and there was a changing table in the accesible stall in the women's bathroom. We will be back.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
A really inviting and large space with some good food. They also have happy hour where drinks are half off but the ones we tried were really sweet and not enjoyable. We got the tomato stack as a starter, the grilled veggie salad with salmon and a couple of the fish dishes. The tomato stack was a pleasant surprise! It has fried green tomatoes, chilled shrimp, pickled okra, bacon, roasted corn salsa and jalapenos. Everything was well seasoned and a good variety of textures and flavors. It was large too. You could eat it as an entree. Otherwise it's a good sharing size. Definitely recommend. My salad was tasty, albeit a little standard. The salmon was well cooked and a large size. The seared market fish dish ended up being much better than the grilled Gulf fish dish. Mostly due to the Gulf fish being drier and less flavorful.
google avatar

Lindsey F.

Yelp
Perfect spot to have lunch and then do a walking tour of the Garden District. We went around 2 and the place was mostly open and we were seated right away. We shared appetizers and the queso was very filling so we shared the lamb dish. Everything was delicious and this made an excellent stop on our New Orleans tour.
google avatar

Daezha B.

Yelp
3.5/5 stars on Lundi Gras. When you're on St. Charles Ave. for an extended period of time for parades and get hungry, Lula is one of the better options within walking distance. The menu was limited, but well executed. We started with the crawfish queso which definitely was only lukewarm when brought to our table but tasty nonetheless. My steak and fries was very good and I can't come here without getting a pomegranate lemonade. If it weren't so cold outside, I would've gotten the frozen option instead on the rocks. Surprisingly, service was very quick (probably due to the limited menu), and we were able to get in and out and catch the rest of the parade!

Thomas R.

Yelp
I ordered the lump crab and avocado dip for $14 and the shrimp brochette which was $28 I believe. Don't recommend either. There was little to no crab, definitely not lump. The shrimp were dry and the bacon over powered all of the other flavors. The smashed postoes and asparagus didn't have much seasoning or flavor either. The cucumber lemon drink was solid and the bread budding was good , that's it though. Service was the best either
google avatar

Travis K.

Yelp
The bartender Edward is amazing! Visiting New Orleans from the 757, this place has AMAZING food and the drinks are perfect. If you're looking for the best Old Fashioned, here's the spot. Thanks to Edward for making it extra special! Hope he's working if you go in, top quality service. I'd post a picture of the old fashioned, but my glass is already empty
google avatar

Nina M.

Yelp
Needed a break from gumbo :) so decided to stop by this restaurant on a Sunday Night. It was pretty empty so we were seated very quickly. They have a number of outdoor and indoor seating. Staff was very nice and was just the right amount of being attentive. We ordered - Homemade Rum and coke - you could tell that it was not your generic rum and coke flavor. Very good - Veggie Salad with Steak - 100% recommend this! A variety of grilled vegetables that had great flavor. The dressing was a perfect matching and the steak was very juicy. Hands down favorite meal. - Rum Bread Pudding - very delicious especially being served warm on a chilly night. You can taste the rum and the flavors that worked just right 100% recommend this location. Prices were normal and many options.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Popular brunch spot with a distillery for several spirits. Definitely go in with an appetite or be prepared to share. Our appetizers were very large, delicious and a bit complex. We got the cochon Benedict, the omelette, and fried green tomatoes with shrimp and okra. Lots of flavors, and we had leftovers for later. Great place for large groups and hungry people. Will have to go back to try their house made vodkas!
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
We went to Lula Restaurant Distillery for Saturday Brunch, and it was an EXCELLENT dining experience. Excellent food (I recommend the Shrimp and Grits), excellent service (Thank You, Tink C., Great Job), excellent facility (current, quasi-industrial vibe, clean and comfortable), and more than excellent vodka, rum, and gin (they are a boutique distillery, after all). Don't forget to elect a designated driver. Five Stars, a great addition to the NOLA food scene.
google avatar

Falen J.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal. I had redfish with dirty rice and veggies. My counterparts enjoyed various dishes, ranging from the lamb chops to ribs and gumbo. The staff was very friendly and well versed with the menu, thus able to make recommendations for the group of out-of- towners that I brought with me. However* Our group of 4 was taken aback to say the least when an older gentleman who appeared to be with management (or maybe a hostess) came to our table and initiated a conversation. After asking if we enjoyed our meals (which we all did), he asked where we were from, to which we explained that our group had traveled from North Carolina for a work conference. He replied, "Woah that mush be nice -- at least y'all still have women's rights there, huh? Thank God." (He was clearly referencing abortion). While we did not respond, he went further to state "I know y'all must be excited about Thursdays ruling. We all should celebrate." (clearly referencing Donald Trumps indictment). By this time, he could see the look on our faces and dismissed himself after mumbling an apology and covering his face in embarrassment from stereotyping a group of black women. What a horrible exception to our otherwise excellent experience at Lula's. Bigotry and ignorance at its finest!
google avatar

Becky G.

Yelp
I went for lunch with a friend. The place was nearly empty. Our server was very attentive. However, she did not know if the shrimp are deveined nor did she ask the kitchen, but rather replied that she was pretty sure. I ordered the iberville salad with shrimp. The description states mixed greens. It had so much cabbage, which is not listed as an ingredient on the menu, that I picked through to get the greens. The pecans were minuscule and hardly any. The shrimp was not deveined either and hard as a rock. Shrimp, as any amateur cook knows take just a few minutes to cook. I ordered salad dressing on the side and the salad came doused with dressing. There is also a 3.75% credit card fee. The salad was $17, totally not worth it since it was terrible. Won't be back.
google avatar

Bob F.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Nice, clean restaurant with cool architecture. Great staff and fun place
google avatar

Charles J.

Yelp
Nurse Jackie from Honduras took care of us today. Everything was good. Food and drinks. Pomegranate drink was very good. Along with the hurricane. $5 happy hour is hard to beat. See y'a next Time. Check out some of our pics
google avatar

Kay G.

Yelp
This place was really good about a year ago but the foods just not good anymore. The kitchen staff definitely needs some help. The parking is great though! That's the best thing I can say about the restaurant now after eating here several times.
google avatar

Elinar M.

Yelp
This was my husband and my first trip to Nola and we stayed at the Historic Streetcar Inn and right across the street was this restaurant Lulz. We're only her for Sunday and we go on our cruise Monday The waiter Jalen was very knowledgeable about the drinks and the food and very friendly. I had the gulf shrimp wrapped in bacon and they were very delicious and my husband had the gulf fish we both had asparagus and rices d I had the mashed potatoes all the food was very well prepared If I ever come back I will be sure to stop in Lula again!
google avatar

Irina L.

Yelp
Lots of butte , sugar , and mayonnaise - maybe someone likes it ? We did not
google avatar

Melanie K.

Yelp
We went for the Thanksgiving dinner, and it was excellent. Staff was prompt and attentive. Food was well prepared and interesting. Desserts were decadent, and good coffee. Drinks very good. Decor and atmosphere was very nice - a hip place. Good place with kids, too.

Yelp
This food was terrible. I took a friend out for a b.d. celebration . I ordered the skirt steak . It was so raw it was literally inedibal . The piece i tried to eat was all grizzle . I had to take it out of my mouth . I never swallowed one piece. $28 french fries . My friend ordered giant shrimp wrapped in bacon . The bacon was raw inedable . He ate 4 shrimp & mashed potatoes $27 . Appatizer tasted like the jar dip that u find in a convience store potato chip aisle. With bagged crawfish tails mixed in . Food was so bad we were affraid to even order a cake dessert for his b.d. . We left & got fast food & ice cream . RUINED his b.d. . They did take the steak off so i Only paid $60 for fries & mashed potatoes. If i can post a pic of this food i will

barbara h.

Yelp
Roderick was our server! He was personable, professional and so informative about the menu and the distillery! We will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
The service was so nice for a Sunday Morning. Lots of natural lighting and the very of the distillery makes it even better! We picked form the August Cool-inary menu. I had the pomegranate lemonade and it was delicious! Highly recommend this place for your brunch needs!
google avatar

Steve O.

Yelp
A nice entry with a lively vibe. Server was knowledgeable and offered suggestions on the top drinks to try. Service was very good overall but the shrimp and grits were bland according to my coworker. I had the shrimp brochette which tasted great but it was served after it had already cooled a bit. The fried pickles and boudin egg rolls were both tasty appetizers. The place has a nice atmosphere and is definitely worth a try
google avatar

Kim X.

Yelp
Lula seems like a great place to go for happy hour as they make all of their own alcohol and have a phenomenal cocktail list. I am still in shock that the blueberry gin sour I got was only 5 dollars! We shared the crawfish dip. The chips were different from what we are used to but we knew we had them before. They're fried wonton papers! I got the shrimp and grits as I usually do when I'm in New Orleans. It was tasty but not the best one I've had. The shrimps were a little over cooked. I would keep this on my list to go for happy hour when I'm in the area again. The service was also very good and the space is large to accommodate bigger parties.
google avatar

Shalon P.

Yelp
Had a great visit to Lula. This was my first time visiting this place. Firstly, the decor is wonderful! I'm not sure if it's decorated for Mardi Gras year round, but it's certainly dressed for the season now. So lovely! Secondly, it's so large, spacious, and clean. Just a gorgeous place. Being able too see the distillery through the windows is a nice touch. We ordered the crawfish queso. It comes with wonton chips. The crawfish queso is really good! Flavorful and delicious. The wonton chips were definitely not my favorite. The texture of those are rather off putting. I'll make sure to supply my own chips next time. Also split an order of blackberry glazed ribs. They split the order in the kitchen prior to bringing it out. Such a nice touch! The ribs were ok. There was no detectable blackberry flavor. Just sweetness. And they're not smoked at all. They were wonderfully tender though. Also had an order of fries. Hand cut!!!!! So good. Had a great visit. Will definitely visit again (with my own tortilla chips, of course) to try more items on their menu.

Yelp
It's a nice little spot on St Charles. Go for Happy hour and indulge in the appetizer specials and try their own distilled beverages. There was a wedding reception happening in the back. So apparently it's a spot that accommodates events. Right off of the St Charles Streetcar line. Convenient and delicious. Grab a bottle Of something good to go.

Yelp
Awesome eatery with all the drink options and amazing food. I came here for brunch and spent 3 hour eating and drinking. Service was top notch and the food followed. I ordered the seafood Mac and cheese and it didn't disappoint. Recommend and look forward to comming back.

Yelp
Great drinks, service, and food for happy hour. Sit outside and enjoy the people watching.

Yelp
Great food and drinks-- amazing happy hour!! Loved all of the options. Very nice servers.

Yelp
Great food, service and ambiance. Ed (host) and Nancy (waitress) were great. Went with kids, and the place was seriously so kid friendly and welcoming, i dare say it's the most kid friendly place in New Orleans. Def go if u can. Kids menu- Cheeseburger, chicken strips and fries. Kids loved it. Dinner Lamb chops, red fish. Both delicious dishes. 5/5 Dessert Bread pudding w/pecans. Warm and tasty.
