Best Barbecue Restaurants in Denver | Eater Denver

"The succulent rib tips alone are worth the drive to this rustic charmer in Louisville’s quaint downtown, while the Hot Mess sandwich with chopped, sauced brisket and pork as well as pickle-pepper-onion relish and slaw more than earns its name. Bonus points for the fried pickles — spears, not chips — and a full bar that whips up Sangria slushes and barrel-aged Manhattans." - Ruth Tobias

Google
I love this place. Lulu's is a must stop for me. Louisville, CO beautiful town with beautiful people. The ribs are always tender and juicy, the brisket is more of the same. Everything is well seasoned. U gotta try the wings. Oh and the fried Pickles will change your life. You really can't go wrong in my opinion. This is Dee and I Love LuLu's

Google
Brisket was sub par. Dry. It’s like okay. Rubbery. Good smoke rings. That’s what the modern day dads look for anyways, big traeger guy myself. The pulled pork was crispy and delicious. Ordered a baked potato. Nice. Not in aluminum foil. Came dressed with nacho cheese. Slaw was crispy and excellent. Great slaw. Overall it’s not Texas. It’s Denver.

Google
Lulu’s is THE place to go for great food, attentive staff, and a great atmosphere. We go to Lulu’s quite often and everything we’ve tried is absolutely amazing! From their signature Texas Slush to their appetizers, platters, and unmatched cornbread - you won’t be disappointed! Catch a game or visit with family and friends- this is the place to be!

Google
A very solid BBq joint! Really loved the pulled pork and half chicken. Those were perfect. The brisket, turkey and rib tips are really good as well. They have the usual yummy sides and have a rotating option for veggies of the day. Three sauce options - liked all three but found the hot one my top selection.

Google
Let me start by saying I grew up in Central Texas and have eaten my more than my fair share of good (and bad). This place was delicious! 😋 I wish I could have eaten more. Very reasonably priced (esp compared to where I live). Brisket was juicy and had just the right amount of fat. I don't normally like BBQ chicken but enjoyed this one a lot. We stopped here on the way to the airport from Boulder so it was nice to have a brisket snack on our flight back home! Kind of place I would frequent if I lived nearby. Highly recommend!

Google
Not a bad place for BBQ. Unfortunately kinda average. Great staff and good environment but the actual BBQ meat was a little on the dry side. Good mac and cheese and other sides were pretty tasty. The best part was the fried pickles with their homemade sauce. Fantastic.

Google
This was some really great BBQ! I've eaten so much bad BBQ I usually just make my own these days but I was visiting my brother who lives in Louisville and he vouched for this place. As it turned out, they served me the best smoked turkey I've ever had, and that includes the stuff I've had at famous places in TX/ I also really loved the rib tips. Their take on that was super tasty. The service was great and the only gripe I have is that I wish there'd been a bit more on my platter for the price.

Google
My review was 6 years old so I figured it was time for a new one. Lulu`s BBQ is some of the best in the state and luckily for me I live 2 miles away. The ribs are great, they are meaty and very flavorful. Their sausage is out of this world and they make it in house. Another thing they do super well is their turkey, some of my favorite turkey around. they also have brisket nachos which are some of the best nachos in town. Most of their meat is so good and tender that no extra sauce is needed. Service is friendly and quick with everyone taking care of you. 5 stars after all these years!

Yelp
What a wonderful place! delicious food and great atmosphere! We shared the 2 meat plate with the brisket and pulled pork. Our sides were the mac & cheese and the beans. Everything came out so quickly and very hot! It was a wonderful lunch on a cozy rainy afternoon. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Brent B.

Yelp
The ribs had only a thin layer of meat on them, the brisket was dry, and the fries were soggy, and the sausage tasted similar to what I'd buy from a grocery. I am a bit let down since I always see this place busy and had higher hopes. Hopefully it was just an off day.

Yelp
The food was delicious! I was looking for a good bbq spot near me. The menu was vast and everything sounded so good. The service was great. They were very prompt and attentive. The atmosphere is very cute and feels exactly like what a bbq place should feel like. Very rustic but goes well.

Yelp
Awesome food and service. In town for a wedding and went for lunch. Fried pickles so yum and this sauce adds a great spicy level.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Great BBQ and fantastic atmosphere. Got 3 meat combo and it was excelent . Ribs, Turkey and Brisket were all out of this world. We also got the bbq nachos which is better than any nachos in town and is covered with meat. They also have a great happy hour with rib tips and wings. Highly reccomended!
google avatar

Yelp
The food is far too expensive. Me and my friends went over there the other weekend, but we would only have been able to afford the food if it was at 1/3 of the normal price.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a fabulous time at Lulu's! I had a refreshing frozen strawberry lemonade- you could choose i to our own type of spirit, I went with vodka! Perfect for a hot day! We got a family pack with pulled pork and brisket and it was tender and tasty! Service was great and Kevin knows his customers well.
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
The Mac and cheese is 10/10!!! Definitely a must! The cornbread with the sweet butter is also good. The salad was hugeeeee. The trio sliders was great, they let you pick 3 different meats for each if you like! I did turkey, brisket and chicken! The sauces are also so good. Plenty of seating indoors and out!
google avatar

Yelp
Cool little spot. Food came out quick. Bathrooms clean. Great customer service. Kid friendly. I'm here for a softball tournament and I would bring the whole team here next time.
google avatar

Yelp
I love bbq!!! This place is sooo good! We drive an hour sometimes just to go here. Love the atmosphere - when it's warm / open air. Waitresses will close the tent flaps on the patio if you ask though. Food typically comes out quickly and service is always friendly. Our family loves it- got the 4 person family platter so we could have leftovers. Brisket is what we came for but also had ribs - both soooo tasty! The cornbread with cinnamon sugar butter- heck ya! Fried okra with homemade ranch and comes with coleslaw too. Kids liked the Mac and cheese. Kids loved the slushie strawberry lemonade. I loved my sangria slushee .

Yelp
We really wanted to love this place--but after two tries, we're done. We ordered the family platter for six (twice now, years apart), and both times the experience was unfortunately the same: great sides, but the meat was nearly inedible. The first time, we were given a credit (which we didn't end up using because so much time had passed), and in between we've actually had good meals dining in. That made us hopeful things had improved. But this past Saturday, the brisket and pulled pork were so dry and tough that we ended up throwing them out. Even the sausage, which was the most edible of the meats, was chewy and dense. We were really excited for a great BBQ meal, but my family only ended up eating the sides--and they were pretty grumpy about it. To be honest, it's hard to understand how food that dry and overcooked made it out of the kitchen. We're not looking for anything in return, but I do think the owners would want to know. Great BBQ should be tender, flavorful, and make you want to come back--not make you feel like you wasted your money. We won't be ordering again.

Yelp
Brisket is what should be expected .. but nothing unique. Mac and .... cheese? The noodles were there, but what is the runny yellow watery liquid. No cheese taste at all. Terrible. Service very good. Ambiance very good.

Emily F.

Yelp
All meats and sauces are gluten free and many of the sides as well. I had the brisket and pulled pork with potato salad and baked beans and enjoyed everything. My boyfriend LOVED the cornbread with cinnamon honey butter and his chicken. Our waitress Brie was really friendly and helpful. Huge variety of drinks as well.

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing! We ordered the smoked wings and fatty brisket never disappoints! Great service indoor and outdoor. Owners are friendly as well as the staff! You gotta get here!
google avatar

Raymond J.

Yelp
This trip not worth the time to type this review. The brisket was tough, chewy, sausage below average and the fried okra overcooked. If it was for the Mac and cheese and the chicken it would be a total flop. The server was one of the other saving graces to the evening. He asked and I was honest and he asked if we would like him to take care of the meal and we said no. It's the thought that counts. But this trip was not the same experience as twice before.

Yelp
So happy we took a recommendation for this place! The food was great (special mentions for the smoked sausage and fried pickles), the drinks were so refreshing, and the restaurant itself has such a friendly and casual atmosphere. Service was also really great even on the weekend! Can't wait for warm weather and frozen drinks on the patio!

Yelp
Definitely been wanting to try this place but I'm never up north. Went to a farm nearby and this was a 20 min drive not too far away so planned lunch here. We got the 1/2 and 1/2 meat platter for 2 of us and upcharged brisket and ribs for $5 more. I asked for Point brisket and when we got the plate I could tell it was Flat it seemed like it had been cut and out for awhile. The ribs were fantastic fall of bone juicy tender ton of flavor. When I told waitress about flat she apologized and brought out FRESH point right away and it was totally different experience. Tasty, juicy and delish. Overall solid place if I'm around again I would try. Suggestions is to up their bread game with maybe Texas toast or a Jalapeño cheese bread, even some big rolls or cornbread rolls. The cornbread slice we got was meh was too crumbly. Also some homemade seasonal pies with fresh crust would be great, I saw on menu online but at store they had only a key lime made in house with a frozen crust that was meh... I would have loved a peach pie or apple ala mode to finish meal,

Yelp
WOW! I cannot believe I've been in Colorado for nearly five years now and have not known about Lulu's! I'm from Texas, and haven't found anything close to TX BBQ, until now! I have been telling anyone and everyone and now I'm telling you, go to Lulu's today. I had brisket from the point (fatty cut), ribs, rib tips, mac & cheese, sweet potato fries and fried oakra. I absolutely cannot wait until I go back, our waitress, Ashley M. & the host were both super friendly and welcoming! Spacious seating too! Keep up reminding me of home please!! Thank you for the experience!

Bob V.

Yelp
My family and I went Lulu's BBQ for the first time I ordered the three meat plater with two sides. The chicken was barley warm, the brisket and ribs were cold, the mac and cheese was cold and runny, the ribs were cold and burnt, the pit beans were the only thing hot on my plate. We got there at 12:00 wright when they opened up. The cornbread with the cinnamon butter was really good.

Steven Y.

Yelp
Wow... how far they have fallen. Yeah. Had the sampler platter. Brisket was well done - yes, dry and brown The turkey wasn't much better The sausage was ok... None of it was like I remembered from the multiple times being here. Everyone has their bad days but I wouldn't have served that brisket to anyone.

Nancy Z.

Yelp
Lulu's was our "go to" during COVID, ordering from them at least once a week. We have been going there for many, many years, but the last 2 times we went were marginal, and then we went tonight. The brisket was so tough we couldn't even cut it, let alone eat it! The ribs were so tough that we fought to get them off the bone. The pulled pork was yummy, but 1 out of 3??? And we had to pay extra for the brisket and ribs. I'm sorry Lulu's after all these years I can't come back! You raised your prices and lowered your quality. SAD
google avatar

Lynden M.

Yelp
Great appetizer choices, great choices in general. Don't know if it was because I was later in the day or just because the brisket is not that good, mine was really dry, Mac n cheese was crazy good. Chili w queso was good, cornbread was awesome, just missing that brisket for a 5 star , loved the inside of the restaurant too, personal bias for bbq places too.
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
Solid barbecue chicken and brisket. Brisket nachos straight fire. Spicy chicken sandwich very good. House salad with pulled chicken very good. All three barbecue sauces solid. Food served extremely fast. Sit down and be served format type BBQ restaurant.

Lance H.

Yelp
Best BBQ in Denver area. Use real post oak, nice pink ring; brisket, spare ribs, chicken... ALL smoked and seasoned to BBQ perfection. Definitely will return.

Yelp
Nice bbq and ambiance. Friendly staff and service, i would definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Well, my last visit was far from great. Why do they stay open until 9 if they runout of food by 8? The previous time, my friend could not get to eat there by 7, they were told the kitchen had nothing left. I wish they'd told us they were out of most items before we ordered drinks, we'd have picked another place for dinner. So, that Saturday around 8, after getting drinks, things went downhill fast. When ordering, we were told they'd run out of sausage, bad luck, my pick for dinner. A friend, my husband and I then opted for sliders. Another one got the tofu which she says is great and looked tasty. I should have followed her advice. A little later the waiter came back saying they'd runout of a couple of the meats on top of the sausages. So we get what's left. He come back again saying they were out of buns. At this point it's so ridiculous, it's almost funny. My husband decides to switch to the green chili. Now the meat, I guess they make it fresh each day, but the buns??? Our poor waiter comes back again to announce that they only had a tiny bit left of the green chili, lucky my husband told him he wasn't that hungry. I thought green chili tasted better with time, they make just enough for the day? Fortunately, by then I was pretty happy with my very strong margarita, who cares about eating anymore... In the end, somehow I got buns, don't know where they found them but my friend had no such luck, her meat was piled under one bun and she was charged for a sandwich which is more expensive than sliders and not even what she wanted. So they runout and automatically upgrade the order and the price without asking? Who knows... And to top it all, they runout of some of the beers. My husband was not too impressed with his reduced selection of beer and smaller size of green chili (although to be fair he was given a discount after asking for it, would they have charged for the full otherwise?) As for the food by itself, the meat was good but nothing great. The BBQ sauce (3 kinds) tasty. It seems like what is available on the menu drinks and food is quite random, and the prices you are charged might also depend on the weather. The question is: is it worth the trouble?

Yelp
Very mediocre BBQ. Honestly could have went to Lucille's and gotten the same level of satisfaction. It's not bad and the atmosphere/decor is pretty cool since it's in this little main street/downtown area. Got the combo with ribs, brisket, and sausage. Ribs and brisket were ok but kind of dry. The sausage was solid...that's why I always get the sausage when ordering a combo at a BBQ place... even if the other items aren't good it's pretty hard to mess up a sausage

Yelp
Fun atmosphere, great food & service! We had dinner here early on a Friday night. I'm glad we went early because by the time we left, there looked like there was a line out the door. The bar is a horseshoe and connects the patio to the inside seating area, which is pretty cool! They have a great selection of drinks and bbq food! It is not the greatest bbq I've ever had but, it was definitely good and I would return. (My husband and I are a little picky with bbq because we have a smoker at home.)
google avatar

Kim A.

Yelp
Food was just ok. We started with the fried pickles which were very tasty. The spicy ranch that came with it was yummy. For the main course we ordered the brisket and chicken platter with Mac & cheese as the side. The brisket was very dry and tough which we were really disappointed about. However, the spicy bbq sauce added a lot of flavor to the meats.
google avatar

Shelly S.

Yelp
What a fantastic meal, we ordered a platter for six to come so much food. We ordered the brisket, turkey, okra, broccoli we had sweet potato fries, delicious coleslaw, and unbelievable cornbread. Absolutely delicious. Our waiter was wonderful and our check-in gal, Lily was lovely. We had a couple of children with us and the weight staff was very patient. Highly recommend this fun fun place in a very lively little area.

Yelp
The BBQ mix, kalua pig and rice, and katsu chicken are my favorites, very tasty, and they're portions are generous!
google avatar

Jessica JP P.

Yelp
Staff couldn't be bothered and food was ok. They were out of a lot of items for it to be 5-6 pm. Probably won't go back but it's nicely decorated

Yelp
Now that we have a baby we are trying to find more family friendly date night/ day activities so we can get the babe and ourselves used to taking him out in public. I remember selling Lulu's BBQ bus light bottles like 6 years ago when I was in the beer industry and I remember thinking I wanted to try them out, though at the time we lived very far south so it never came to fruition. Now however living less than 20 min when my partner asked what we should do this past weekend I knew BBQ would be not only tasty but a casual environment to take the babe out and not be nervous or anxious about it. The staff was super friendly and offered him a booster seat immediately which again I very much appreciated even though he's still a tad too young. Unless you have a baby it would be hard to tell so I really appreciate the prompt offer so if you do have a child that can fit in one you won't have to go searching/struggle to find seating for your kid. Vibe was cute, and BBQesque as I remember. The server recommended a Texas slush as in true ADHD fashion I could not make up my mind on what to drink and that was a winner for sure. Not something I would have gravitated too but so good- 6oz of house lager topped with frozen margarita. I recommend giving it a try. They have a good tap list for local beers and some nice cocktails. Now on to the food. We both got a 2 item plate so we could try all the items we were interested in - ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and smoked sausage. I have to say Not a single meat disappointed however those ribs man... they were so succulent. Fall off the bone and tender. I honestly didn't even put sauce on them because they were so good they didn't even need it!! And I have to say we had a decent amount of leftovers and that smoked sausage in some eggs the next day was *chefs kiss* beyond that their sides are pretty damn good too! The potato salad has fresh dill which I love, and the ranch style beans were smoking and meaty and delicious. Honestly this spot is going to be a regular in our rotation because it's such a great vibe, great food, and an all around enjoyable time especially if you have kids
google avatar

Khoi T.

Yelp
This is a place I have to visit once every time I visit Denver. The servers here are some of the nicest people ever and are always ready to service you. The food is the best bbq I've ever had. Particular the ribs, they are just amazing. Pro tip: if you order brisket, ask for fatty brisket (better than lean IMO). Mac and cheese and chips were a good complement, all 3 of the sauces paired very well with the meats.

Yelp
We were visiting Louisville, Colorado to see our grandson perform a concert. Louisville, Colorado is a small town which is located Southeast of Boulder, Colorado. It started as a mining town, and has a very small but cool downtown area with restaurants and bars. We stopped into Lulu's, we weren't hungry, but wanted a drink prior to the concert which was being held at the Steinbaugh Pavilion. We were directed to the outdoor patio. The staff were all nice and friendly and the space was very cool. I want to return and have some BBQ, as it looked yummy, and being a Southern girl, I love BBQ.

Julius J.

Yelp
I like that it has a full bar bc sometimes I wanna drink. Overall the food was middle of the road. It was dry. I'd come back for the pulled pork nachos w/ green chile and the drinks

Lisa B.

Yelp
Yummy ribs. Cole slaw and garlic mashed potatoes were awesome. Drinks were good too. No skimpy pours. Great service as well.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
I wish I could eat their brisket and mac and cheese for every meal, every day. Consistently excellent. One of my go-tos to impress visitors. Great, friendly service every time I go.
google avatar

Kora S.

Yelp
The food is delicious. The prices also aren't expensive, and Happy hour has even better deals. The food also came out quickly, and there was no wait.

Danny L.

Yelp
Have been here twice and the barbecue is a little drier than I was expecting but tender and tasted great. Had ribs both times. Always seems to be busy with a short wait for a table, so you know the food is good to be this popular. Service from the bar while we waited was great. Service at the table was lacking and that may because it is always quite busy.
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
The best bbq ever! We got the three meat sampler platter with brisket, chicken, and turkey! The brisket was awesome and so tender! The chicken was also amazing! The turkey was the best turkey I've ever had! It was so so flavorful and juicy and amazing! We had sides of garlic mashed potatoes and fried okra. Both were also amazing! I love the three different bbq sauces they have and I especially loved the spicy one! For dessert we had the key lime pie and cornbread sundae. Both were amazing but I loved the key lime pie a bit more. It was perfectly silky and not overly sweet! Highly recommend this awesome bbq place!
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
Great food, service, and really laid back vibe. The fried pickles and green chili queso apps were spot on.

John E.

Yelp
The food was good but the menu is confusing the entree came with either chips or slaw and $1.00 up charge for a different side. I was confused and thought it came with chips and slaw so I went with the slaw and okra and I thought it was a $1.00 up charge but no it was $4.50 more. I'm not sure if the confusion is on purpose or not but it needs to be changed on the menu
google avatar

Lauren Z.

Yelp
Their food is so good and if you're in Louisville, the location couldn't be better. Very walkable (which is good because of how much food you'll eat). I always get the Mac and cheese and some plain chicken and couldn't be happier! Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Kim F.

Yelp
We have been coming to Lulu's barbecue for absolutely years... It's right on the corner of Main Street in Pine right at the center of Louisville... On summer days we have the best time sitting and watching the cars... Because it's a central point of Louisville. Service is always extremely good and very quick... The food is always delicious I have never had a bad meal at Lulu's over the course of the many years we have been coming here... I really enjoyed the deep Eddy iced tea... Especially on a hot summer day... The beer is always cold... The food is always delicious... Coming off that smoker it's super tender and your choice of barbecue sauces is perfect for every taste
google avatar

Nisha N.

Yelp
Easily some of the best tofu I've ever had. They deep fried it and it was crispy and flavorful. The Mac and cheese was seasoned so well. Their bbq sauces complemented the meal perfectly. Service was wonderful with a kind and attentive waitress. I'll be back for the tofu and to try more of the sides!
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
I LOVE my BBQ but sadly was not a fan of Lulus. Pricy and loud for lunch. Tried the 3 meat plate $17 with 3 sm ribs +$5, 4 slices of lean brisket +$3 and 3 slivers of turkey with slaw. Extra sides of potato salid and sweet potato fries. $40 for two for lunch with water! Extra plate provided without asking. Pepsi products. Meats were just average. Street parking difficult, small free city lot in back. Too many better spots to eat for me.
google avatar

Jenelle E.

Yelp
This place hit the spot! My fiancé had the half rack of ribs and licked them clean. I had the brisket which was awesome. Mac and cheese was good and the cornbread is perfect. Staff was friendly and service was great!
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Lulu's is a really good BBQ place. Not the best I've ever had (but hard to compare to great places in Austin, Chicago etc.) but still really good. I got the sampler plate so that I could try everything and the beef brisket and smoked sausage were awesome and the pulled pork was pretty good too. The max and cheese (which I got for my son but tried) was very bland and nothing to write-home about. Their beer selection was pretty good too, so if you're in the mood for some good BBQ and beer check out Lulu's BBQ!
