I want to preface this by saying there are many things I like about Lumen - the front desk staff, the leasing staff -- Eddie, Rene, Suhaily, etc. - are all wonderful. The place is nice overall and I'm thankful to live in a beautiful building close to the city.
However, I am leaving this review because of an unacceptable situation with the elevators.
For the past several months I have lived here, we have almost never had a time where all 4 elevators were working. For the past several weeks, only one elevator has been working - and I have NOT seen maintenance men coming in every day to try to address the situation. I have NOT received any communication about when the elevators would be fixed. It just seems like Greystar was quite content to just have one of four elevator working... and today, I stepped out of my apartment on the 42nd floor and NO elevator was working.
I am really disappointed with Greystar, the company that owns Lumen. It just does not seem like they have made fixing the elevators a priority at all.
This is appalling because people are getting trapped on their floor or stuck in the elevators QUITE FREQUENTLY! It's getting to the point where I'm uneasy about riding the elevator up or down just to get back home or leave my place.
Several of my friends have experienced the elevator shaking, suddenly stopping, or shooting up (instead of down).
The other day my friend was riding the elevator but the door did not close all the way, WHILE the elevator was moving. This is just so unsafe!!
I love the Lumen staff, the Concierges, the desk staff -- they're all wonderful people. And the building is great. But being able to get safely to and from my home (or being able to get there at all!) is simply a non-negotiable bare minimum requirement. And greystar doesn't seem to have made that a priority. Nor are they offering rent discounts or any sort of concession to the residents to make up for it. I'm just extremely, extremely disappointed, and I feel particularly bad for the people who have been trapped in elevators.
The other night, we could hear someone screaming and yelling and banging from inside one of the elevators. I know that sounds dramatic, but it's true.
Greystar, if you are reading this, please make it a priority to fix the elevators. There is no reason in a building with 4 elevators in a city filled with elevator repair companies that we only have had 1 elevator working. There's no reason people should be regularly getting trapped in elevators (like 1x a week at this point?).
Or at the very least, please make it up to your residents with some sort of financial concession.
