"Bangkok is the ultimate concrete jungle, and most of its green spaces have long been gobbled up by developers adding condominium towers to the skyline. But smack dab in the center of the city is leafy Lumphini Park; often called the "Central Park of Bangkok" and named after the Nepali birthplace of Buddha, this an urban respite for many Bangkokians. The geographical heart of the park is an artificial lake where you can rent swan-shaped paddle boats; a jogging track, which fills up early in the morning and around sunset, encircles the lake. There are a few playgrounds and vendors selling water and fresh fruit. On Sunday evenings in the cooler months, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra plays free concerts. The park’s best-known commodity is its resident population of giant (mostly harmless) monitor lizards, which slither in and out of the lake." - Diana Hubbell, Katie Lockhart

"Lumphini Park is a 57-hectare green oasis in the middle of Bangkok, offering outdoor leisure activities and a large lake. It's home to many monitor lizards and provides a relaxing space amidst the city." - Pruepat 'Maprang' Songtieng
"Bangkok's Most Beguiling Green Space In a city where gold-spired temples are much more ubiquitous than green space, Lumphini Park is a veritable oasis in the heart of Bangkok . Established by King Rama VI in the 1920s and completed after his death, the 142-acre chunk of tropical greenery is a treasured spot. One of the few parks of any size in central Bangkok, Lumphini is well used: In the morning, tai chi practicers arrive, while in the early evening, joggers monopolize the main path that runs around its perimeter. Even so, there’s ample room to get away from the crowds here. More than 30 species of birds flit among the park’s giant trees, and monitor lizards and turtles inhabit its waterways. Other attractions within the park include a public library, a youth sports center, and swan paddleboats in the man-made lake."
Lumphini Park is a peaceful green escape right in the heart of busy Bangkok! It’s clean, calm, and beautifully maintained — perfect for morning walks, jogging, or just relaxing by the lake. You’ll see locals doing yoga, people boating, and even monitor lizards roaming freely! The fresh air and shade from big trees make it a perfect spot to unwind. Whether you want to exercise, enjoy nature, or simply take a break from the city noise, Lumphini Park is a must-visit gem in Bangkok!

A perfect spot in the heart of Bangkok for exercise and relaxation! 🏃♂️🚴♀️ The park is spacious, clean, and very well-maintained.
Great for jogging, or just stretching out on the grass. There’s a friendly and peaceful atmosphere — lots of locals and foreigners come here early in the morning and late afternoon.
Highly recommend if you’re into outdoor workouts or just want a breath of fresh air in Bangkok.

A city park surrounded by skyscrapers. You can hear the road noise, so there is no silence here.
You can ride a catamaran for free. But my husband was not allowed - because of his weight. So be prepared for this. We swam together with my son.
Monitor lizards live along the city pond, you can watch them if you are quiet enough. There is a playground.
A wide asphalt road runs through the park, bicycles ride. If you expect peace and quiet, you will not find it here. You can not hide from the noise of the city here.
From an aesthetic point of view, this is also a questionable place.
City residents can have a picnic here - there are tables.

Really beautiful park! Enough area to walk, have a picnic, do sport and enjoy nature with animals and birds.
I’ve never seen so many water monitors in my life in one place! They are everywhere: walking on the grass, swimming in the water or just chilling on the sun. We saw even 2 fighting water monitors! Just be careful and don’t come too close. I saw one tourist lady who even taught his tail but it’s really dangerous since they can bite.
There are free WC. Unfortunately without drinking water fountains to use your reusable bottle.

Lumpini Park is a peaceful green escape in the heart of Bangkok. It’s perfect for running, reading a book, or simply enjoying a calm and quiet stay. The wide walking paths, shaded benches, and open lawns make it ideal for relaxing or light exercise. One of the best features is the free paddle boats—you can gently cruise around the lake and enjoy the view. The park is clean, safe, and home to friendly monitor lizards. Locals often do yoga or group aerobics in the morning. Easily reachable by MRT, it’s a must-visit spot for nature lovers in the city.

Beautiful park with a great route for running & cycling. Lots of wildlife like water monitor lizards. A weird amount of solo cops stationed around the park every 100 metres sitting in huts or on benches. There's not a lot of entrances to the park so you've got to walk pretty far for each one.

Central urban park in Bangkok Thailand featuring manicured lawns, playgrounds and an artificial lake with boat rentals.
Free roaming Asian water monitor lizards are the surprise attractions.
People can do several outdoor leisure activities under fresh air and shade. A lot of flora and fauna and a large lake.

A Jogger's Paradise with a Unique Surprise!
This park is hands-down my favorite spot for a jog! The moment you step in, you're greeted by beautiful greenery and nicely paved roads that make for a smooth and enjoyable run.
But the real highlight, and something that always brings a smile to my face, is the presence of the monitor lizards. It might sound surprising, but they're truly a part of the park's charm, and it's wonderful to see them in their natural habitat. They add a unique and wild touch to an otherwise serene setting.
If you're looking for a great place to exercise surrounded by nature, with a fascinating twist, this park is definitely worth a visit!
