I've recently been on a mission to try different pizza places around Houston. I love pizza like people love tacos. It's a one-stop-shop meal and can be turned into meatlover, veggie/vegan/keto, or as a dessert! I've passed by Luna on Yale since I live and shop nearby.
From the outside, it looks unassuming because it's in a small shopping strip next to Hi Trendy Dumpling and an urgent care and across from Walmart. Plenty of parking. Indoor seating is spacious and clean. Service is friendly.
I haven't tried the desserts, salad or spinach and artichoke dip at Luna yet, but I will. I'm eyeing their carrot cake and tiramisu. There's plenty of appetizers and sandwiches to choose from if you want something other than pizza. I like their pizzas because you can build your own up to 5 toppings, and they have a good selection of signature ones. You can even do half and half if you or your partner/friends want to try different types. I think that's an effective way to try multiple ones.
I love Domino's thin crust deluxe, so how did this compare? Well, it's not quite thin crust, but it's pan style with just enough undercarriage that the pizza doesn't flop too much with the toppings. It's not overloaded with tomato sauce, which I prefer. So if you love your pizza loaded with tomato sauce, go to Gold Tooth Tony's for their Detroit style. I haven't tried Luna's signature pizzas, but I love to build my own. I typically get pepperoni, mushroom and the whipped ricotta. The whipped ricotta is so good and slightly sweet. I wish they'd add more mushrooms. The pepperoni are the smaller ones and can get greasy. I've also recently added red pepper which is a roasted red pepper slice. I love the added extras of Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes that come on the side with the pizza. I like to dip my pizza in ranch, and theirs is delicious. The 3 oz ranch is just enough for their 9-inch personal pizza. It's slightly pricey at $12 for a personal size, but they do offer specialty meats and toppings that most places don't.
Check them out! They also offer lunch specials. Aside from The Heights, they have locations in upper Kirby and Westheimer.
