The 18 Best Restaurants in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico | Eater

"The breathtaking skyline of San Miguel de Allende is a composition of the Bajío plateau and mountain landscape, the majestic Baroque towers of San Miguel’s cathedral, and the tile roofs of the city’s colorful, historic buildings. On a warm evening, drink in the view (along with some libations) at Luna Rooftop Bar. It’s located inside the Rosewood Hotel overlooking the city’s beautiful architecture, and though it’s a hotel bar at heart, it’s also a great place for visitors to spend the afternoon with tapas and a round (or several) of the bar’s famous margaritas." - Natalia de la Rosa

The views from this place are truly exceptional. The atmosphere and hotel are magnificent—a must-visit destination. We enjoyed drinks here and had a wonderful early afternoon break.

Google
This was the best dinner we had in San Miguel. The view is INSANE and the service was absolutely fantastic. They asked in advance about allergies/dietary restrictions and/or special events and were incredibly helpful in making sure all our choices were allergy friendly. We were celebrating my birthday and they surprised us with an adorable sweet treat that was dairy free to accommodate my allergy :) a MUST VISIT!!! My favorite rooftop of our trip

Rafaela Sanches

Google
The view is stunning, drinks are really good but the food does not meet the expectations specially for the price. We paid almost 800 pesos for a tuna tiradito with a frozen (horrible) tuna. We also ordered an octopus starter, but it was a pizza with 4 tiny slices of octopus.

Jahjahfue (Jahjahfue)

Google
This place exceeded our expectations! Delicious margaritas and the special pizza was hands down the best pizza we've ever had. We stayed from sunset into the evening. Best service. Don't forget a reservation.

Samuel Benz

Google
Great view. Service, cocktails, and food were below expectations. Go for sunset and just one drink then go out for dinner.

Mary Carmen Albarrán

Google
Delicious and varied menu with lots of good options to share, as well as vegetarian dishes. The view is gorgeous and the service is friendly.

Google
Great food, great service, great vibe. I expect nothing less at a rosewood property. We went for lunch and the service was excellent. Highly recommend.

Google
Really cute rooftop bar where you see all three cathedral tops of San Miguel de Allende! Kind of pricey in comparison to other nearby restaurants, especially for their small portion sizes, but the food is still good. We went during lunch hour and it was pretty empty, and were seated without reservation, but would book ahead if you plan to go during dinner & busy seasons. We got the Chile en nogada and it was so delicious. I also got the aguachile-esk dish and it was so refreshing & the grapes added such a needed touch! It is a Spanish styled restaurant, so if you want something Mexican, this might not be the place for that. If I were to come here I would just come for drinks and the views, but nonetheless the staff was really nice and welcoming!

Yelp
Rooftop restaurant inside NUMU hotel. Mediterranean tappas with several other fusion selections. Atmosphere and service are 5 star here. English speaking staff as well.

Yelp
This was noted as a must-visit spot even just for drinks to watch the sunset. Well, I never made it to watch the sun set from here, but I did make it for dinner one night. Needing a break from being in town, dinner here turned out to be just that. Getting in without a reservation still managed to yield a good view of the city. Unlike the close-up paintings some of the restaurants in Centro offer, this view is of the entire landscape of the city. Service was a little inattentive but not enough to make for a ding in the night. I had one dish for the night and it was the rib eye steak. I found it to be done perfectly and very tasty. It was my last night in San Miguel de Allende and this was the perfect way to decompress while still enjoying being here.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
Yes, the food here is expensive for the portion size but you are paying for the view which is spectacular. I made sure to come 45 minutes before sunset because I wanted to experience the city during the day and watch the whole sunset. The restaurant is clean and the food was full of flavors and presented well. Most of the dishes are Mediterranean cuisine, so not Mexican, but they do a really good job at these dishes. My favorite was the grilled octopus tail and the manchego cheese cheesecake. I also got lamb kebab, which was flavored well softshell crab sandwich delicious as well and cauliflower flatbread service was friendly, and once again the view was amazing.

Yelp
Idyllic views coupled with well made cocktails. We ventured here for a quick beverage after a day of shopping and stayed for more just to continue taking in the stunning views. Would love to stay at the hotel as it was beautiful!

Mark R.

Yelp
It is known for having one of the best views in San Miguel, which is true, but the service is very pretentious, as is the crowd. The food is good but expensive.

Billy B.

Yelp
The food was exceptional and the service was excellent. The ambiance and views were fabulous.

Yelp
You'd be silly to not head up Here at least one night for a cocktail and some snacks. The view is absolutely exceptional and while I'm sure it's lovely in the day the changing scenery at the sunset , dusk etc. is just unmatched. I have had some pretty exceptional cocktails here in San Miguel so that is a tough scene to crack. Luna had good enough cocktails And the churros and complimentary seasoned watermelon were lovely. The Service was exceptional. They were very busy but the hostess took the time to set up a sweet little table for two for me and my mom with a primo view. And they provide blankets for when it is chilly. And when we didn't like one of our drinks they kindly exchanged it for something else that was tastier. Lina is Definitely a must go!

Yelp
What a beautiful bar to enjoy the view. It was a bit windy but we were able to avoid this by sitting at the bar. The drinks were impeccably prepared and were delicious.

Yelp
Came here while in San Miguel De Allende. Had it bookmarked as a place to come and have dinner because it a great view of the city and the church towers. Unfortunately we came on a day with rain in the forecast so that is not good for a rooftop restaurant unless it is a covered one. Lune is partially covered but the rain still gets in somehow. They do offer you blankets or Shaw like sweaters that come in handy. Be prepared for food prices being a little more expensive here compared to other places. The food options are small and not a lot of variety and it's a mix of Mediterranean with some Mexican herbs. I ordered the grilled octopus with like spicy harissa sauce with watercress and roasted cherry tomatoes, it was very tasty. For appetizer we had the roasted carrots with like a taziki or hummus sauce and peanuts I believe those were also very tasty. My husband had the pork belly slider which he says was pretty good and it came with potato fries. The service we received from Daniel our server was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and honest with his recommendations. Drinks were good too but I forgot the names of them .Over all the place is nice because of the great view but to be honest I wouldn't be back for the food.

Yelp
Gorgeous Views. A Must do, great food, drink and excellent service. Tip the service well.

Yelp
This place is more on the pricey side, but the view is absolutely amazing! It got a little breezy in the afternoon, they had good food and drinks. The service was awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
We had such a great time due to the spectacular view and food. However, we were severely ignored for hours due to a packed table spending lots of money on bottles of wine. I felt completely ignored and had to stand up, walk to go find someone to help me. Even then, they still forgot my order and then charged me for it. Epic view. Horrific service.
google avatar

Anthony A.

Yelp
Best view of the city you've got to try the food and atmosphere they had some amazing dips. We tried, blueberry, cucumber, the octopus was also amazing
google avatar

Nora L.

Yelp
Great place for a relaxing drink and appetizer. We had a few dips with pita and a cocktail. It has a great view. We went during the day but I think it would be better at dusk or night. I would not plan dinner here. It's pricey and a bit of a tourist trap, but it's good to check it out. The hotel is beautiful!
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
If you want to pay an exorbitant amount of money for expensive & boring appetizers and overpriced weak drinks, this is the place for you. There are many places to go to have a beautiful view. Don't waste your money and your time. Very disappointed.

Sandie B.

Yelp
This was by far the worst dining experience we had in SMA. Overpriced with terrible service and utterly mediocre food. A total tourist trap. It is also windy and FREEZING up on that roof, and they don't have adequate heat lamps, so they hand out blankets which help a little, but my fingers were still frozen after sitting there from 5:45 - 6:45pm on a January evening. (For reference, I was wearing a sleeveless shirt when we arrived.) I was seriously miserable, and it was next to impossible to find our server to get the check and go. The cocktails were okay, but I had much better in town for less than half the price. The Mediterranean Pizza ranks among the worst pizzas I'd ever had, and the guacamole was totally standard. Even the view, which everyone raves about, wasn't as fun as it was at other spots. I really wished we had skipped this and not fallen for the hype. There is SO MUCH amazing food in SMA, and so many beautiful restaurant spaces. Save your money and time and go elsewhere.

Madison G.

Yelp
Amazing service and even better views! Best roof top bar in town above the Rosewood hotel!

Mona R.

Yelp
We ordered the risotto and the shrimp agua chile and OMG, the friendliest staff, amazing views of the sunset made it really special.

Angie L.

Yelp
A very trendy spot, but the service, food, and drinks disappoint, even more so for the hefty price tag. Our server was friendly but we seldom saw him. He never asked how our dishes were (they were not great). The Mediterranean pizza was bland and arrived to our table lukewarm. The guacamole was okay, not great. They serve two types of chips with the guacamole but I didn't care for either. Beware that even with the heatlamps (of which there are not nearly enough) and blankets, it is VERY cold up there at night (at least in January).

Yelp
Magical is the only word to do justice to this romantic, incredible rooftop restaurant and bar. No gimmicks or trendy decor here. Breathtaking views, comfortable seating, perched atop the premier luxury hotel in the sophisticated city of San Miguel: it doesn't get much better than this. The food is fun, very well prepared, and designed for sharing. The mozzarella and fig pizza shone, as did the braised short rib and tacos, but everything was delicious. Rarely does the check surprise me, and rarer still when it surprises on the low side. For 8 people to eat and drink at this place, and walk away very full and happy, I would have not been shocked if the bill were double the price it was (about $60/person).

Yelp
Great stop for sunset views however the food feels overpriced. The food is just okay and the service is terrible. They are definitely a touristy stop, which we knew going in and is why we haven't been before in our decade of visiting SMA. Next time I'd go for drinks and appetizers.
google avatar

Enrique V.

Yelp
Probably my favorite rooftop in San Miguel. The food and drinks were very good. I ordered a couple cocktails and the steak tacos which were delicious. The view from the top is also very nice
google avatar

Jade D.

Yelp
Waiter named Luz had a horrible attitude and was very rude to our group when we told her we were ignored for over 20 minutes. Our group felt discriminated since all other customers (mainly American and European) were not being ignored. Manager Jorge apologized for situation and changed our waiter. Hope this young ladies attitude and service gets fixed. It's really a shame since the place is beautiful and the view is amazing.
google avatar

Gilbert P.

Yelp
The food was very good we wanted tacos but they had a mediterranean menu, I had a Gyro & my wife had a pork belly slider. Very very good! If you are in the area make plans to have lunch here with great views of the town.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The food is a little pricey but the views are worth it. The drinks and food were also delicious! Highly recommend the fish tacos and the sunset margarita. The service was very friendly. They also serve pizza that looked and smelled amazing. It gets a little breezy up there so bring a jacket.
google avatar

Amber E.

Yelp
What a phenomenal view! Absolutely stunning views of the hills, town, cathedral, flowering jacaranda trees and rooftops. . We had a lovely lunch and cocktails. Favorites were the Baja fish tacos, tuna tostadas, and Greek salad (was t traditional Greek, but very tasty). The churros with chocolate sauce and ice cream were also a hit. Can see why this is such a popular place.
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
The host was a bit rude, we sat ourselves because nobody greeted us. The drinks are way too over priced. It's a shame, this place has a beautiful view. I would avoid coming here at all cost.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The short: hands down the best view of the city we've seen & we enjoyed our cocktails and appetizers. You pay a premium for the view, and it's worth it. The longer: we stopped here on a Monday for lunch (they open at 2pm), and we had our pick of tables/couches, enjoyed 2 cocktails, the guacamole with mango/crab and a Caesar salad. The food was good - nothing overly memorable, and their wine list was slim, but we genuinely enjoyed the cocktails and the view. The staff were kind and attentive, and they didn't rush us at all. Highly recommend for weekday drinks and nibbles!
google avatar

Janette V.

Yelp
It is located at the Rosewood hotel. Upon entering they will guide you to the elevator to take you to the rooftop. This place is great for the views. You get a beautiful panoramic scene all the way around. We had a couple of drinks that were very nice. One of our drinks was out so we asked to custom make one for us and it was spot on ! This place is a must for drinks before dinner or ever for drinks after dinner. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
We had lunch here twice. The view is great. The food was good. The service was horrible both times. We won't be back.
google avatar

Greg E.

Yelp
Spectacular setting, incredible guacamole, and the shrimp tacos were to die for. A bit pricey, but you know that going in. Updrinks also delivered
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
If you're going to San Miguel de Allende you've got to call ahead and get a reservation. Bring an extra layer and stay for sunset. All of the food was incredible. The bar menu cocktails were interesting and service was great.
google avatar

Kevé S.

Yelp
One of the best Tapas and Rooftop Bars in San Miguel de Allende. The views are spectacular, will definitely go back next trip to SMdA!!!!
google avatar

Chrystal A.

Yelp
Beautiful Rooftop! We had a great dinner and great drinks. The view is amazing! So glad we found this place.

Hobie S.

Yelp
Fun, delicious tapas, stunning views. We always encourage our visiting friends to put Luna on their list

Anahid C.

Yelp
Located on the top floor of the Rosewood Hotel, the Luna Rooftop bar has a lovely view but the service, excitement and value are lacking. It was my birthday. After seeing a YouTube video on a couple sharing their experience in San Miguel de Allende and visiting Luna, my husband and I made reservations one month in advance to celebrate there. We arrived with no special greeting and without asking us, we were led to a sofa and a low table. The hostess didn't even ask us if we'd be dining there. I really didn't want to drop food on my clothes. The prices for the food and drinks were ridiculous for what was explained in the menu and for what I saw in front of people. The food was't exciting and overpriced too. The average price for drinks is $18. There wasn't a special mixology worth this price. I can order drinks at home in California for $18-20 per drink. I'll open my wallet for exceptional food and drinks but I quickly realized this wasn't the place. The view at Luna could be the same from another rooftop in San Miguel de Allende. After waiting around for the server, we just didn't get the happy vibe we expected. This was a Thursday night too. The locals are probably tired of being gouged by the prices and no value. Hardly anyone was there and it just appeared dead. It was not a good birthday choice. Go to Quince for an amazing view drinks food and hospitality. We had an amazing night here the next night. The manager made sure we celebrated with a beautiful complimentary dessert with a birthday sparkle. The mixology drinks are unique and just what you would expect to pay. The food was excellent. The view is stunning. The service is exceptional and the vibe was electric. We should have booked at Quince for my birthday. See my review on Quince. You'll be glad you did.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
A must visit when you are in SMDA! We came here after we were told that the wait at QUINCE would be at least an hour! Luna bar is located in the Rosewood hotel, which is at the outskirts of the town, but is worth the walk from Jardin Principal. First of all, the hotel itself is stunning! Stroll around the ground before you head up to the rooftop. Once there, you will immediately get the panoramic view of SMDA. We didn't have a reservation but the host was kind enough to find us a table to the side of the lounge, which still gets a decent view. They offered so many delicious cocktails. 2 notable items on the menu were the red and green cocktails made from Casa Dragones tequila. We tried both and they were so tasty!! The price at this bar was even cheaper than a similar drink we got at Doce 18. My first drink wasn't very good and I was able to send it back and got a new one without being charged for the first one. Only issue here is that smoking is allowed on the rooftop. It is suggested to come here for sunset...the view is probably more stunning than the night view.
google avatar

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Best view in SMA. Have been to this place many times over the years. Quite pricey but you got to pay for the ambiance, vibe and view. Sundowner here highly recommended.
google avatar

FoodLover F.

Yelp
Gorgeous view while eating ceviche with mango and chips. And a Allende beer Then we walked all around the gardens where the hotel is located This is place hard to find and you walk up about seven flights of stairs We took elevator down

Elle L.

Yelp
Awesome view. Great service. Tapas Menu looks interesting. Beautiful hotel bar. We just stopped for drinks in the afternoon. I would like to go back to try the Mediterranean food.
google avatar

Mina N.

Yelp
This place has an amazing view of San Miguel. The food is very good the drinks are great and the space is perfect. The table service is a little slow I must say but then again you are in Mexico. What's the Rush?? If you want a place to enjoy some tapas a few cocktail and take in the spectacular view of San Miguel then this is where you should be
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
The perfect last night in San Miguel. Beautiful sunset and 360 view!! Simple but great tapas menu! We loved the tacos, guacamole and margaritas. Plus my nephew had been looking for pizza the whole trip and finally found some here!!
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
I loved this place! We went twice during our stay in the city! Amazing drink selection, views and food! We had so much fun! We sampled all types of dishes and drinks. Too many to post! This place is a MUST if you are going to San Miguel!
google avatar

Joan M.

Yelp
Post Spa we came up here for drinks and the view and it was well worth it. The view of San Miguel de Allende was 360° and simply put, astonishing. It was a beautiful evening with clouds which made for a spectacular sunset view. It's quite a large space and anywhere you sit you will have a view. I don't understand the negative reviews on cost here. The same view of San Francisco or NYC would cost three times as much. My opinion is if you are in town come up here one night for a drink and view. It's not going to burst the bank people. Mexico as a whole is cheap but this place is pricier however as I said it's not going to break the bank. The food was good the staff were accommodating but slow ( everywhere we went, staff were slow). It's all good. Take it in because it's breathtaking. Don't miss.
google avatar

Juan M.

Yelp
Now I can see why this place been for three or more year as the best restaurant, just the view of all of San Miguel de Allende valley it's worth the cost, talking about food, its amazing its hard to say which was my favorite, just look the menu and pick don't matter what you chose is excellent, excellent service.
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
What is not to like about Luna? It's beautiful and popular with the locals. Drinks are great and so are the tapas. Extensive menu for children. It does get super cold at night so bring something warm. They have heaters but it's still chilly. The views are stunning and the Rosewood is gorgeous. Definitely get reservations
google avatar

Nancy M.

Yelp
Beautiful view with delicious food. The service was great as well. Drinks were good as well.

Holly W.

Yelp
Beautiful setting. Beyond horrible service. Arrived for a 6 pm reservation. Given a horrible table. Waiter came by 3 times in an hour. Never took a food order. Served a frozen beer that spewed all over the table....no napkins. Took 20 mins to get the check. We had planned on dinner but went elsewhere. Go up, see the view and leave without spending any money - you will be glad you did.
google avatar

Vikki H.

Yelp
Voted too 5 Rooftop Bar in Town! This place only takes reservation for hotel guests. Everyone else is first come, first serve. They told us to expect an hour wait but we were seated within 20 min. The hotel is stunning. The view at the top is SPECTACULAR, especially around sunset. There was a brief moment where I left my purse downstairs (I forgot about it while in the midst of taking photos) and I was able to get it back from the security. (I know, lucky me!) Super safe spot. Every dish and drink we got was equally AMAZING. Highly recommend!
