Luna’s Italian & Latin Cuisine - Review - East Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"La Luna is the only restaurant in East Boston serving both Latin and Italian food in the same place. It’s a little strange, just like the juxtaposition of Venetian and solar system paintings on the wall. As a general rule, stick with the Latin dishes like the arepa and tacos - because if you want Italian food, there are better places like Mario’s down the street." - Joel Ang

We really enjoyed the service and the food. I had chicken with mashed and my husband had the veal parm. Even my Caesar salad was fantastic. Calamari was delicious too. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for breakfast the next morning.

They take pleasure in making tasty food and providing amazing service. Romantic atmosphere. The bacon guacamole burger and jalapeño poppers were super.

Google
Good late nite find to appease our random appetite. The arancini was soooo good, and lobster ravioli were delicious. Beef Empanadas were ok but enjoyed steak tips too.

Google
We stopped there on the way home from Logan and enjoyed a wonderful meal. The service was also excellent. We ordered the Shrimp Mozambique Salad, Steak Tips and Veal Parmigiana. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal with generous portions to go with the great taste.

Google
Great spot! Went there for breakfast recently and the stuffed French toast for sharing and it was amazing! I got the Spanish omelette and it was fantastic. The staff was super attentive but never felt over-bearing. My new favorite breakfast spot for Saturday mornings. I should say, I’ve been here for dinner and the experience was great too. I usually get the chicken paisano casserole and it never disappoints. Love the portions and the sauce is spot on! Cheers!

Yelp
Very cute little neighborhood restaurant. Could really tell food was fresh and authentic. Tried Italian but would go back for Latin dishes

Yelp
Had a very nice experience at this joint. Burger was cooked perfectly and sweet potato fries were delicious. We shared empanadas which were flavorful and good! My parents each had a pasta dish and they loved both of them. Service was really great too, very friendly staff. Love the Latin/Italian fusion.

Yelp
I came to this plaza with my family, who are visiting from out of town, to find a restaurant to eat at. As we parked, a server from Luna came out and immediately asked if we were going to eat there. Before I even had the chance to answer or explain, she came out again, literally seconds later, demanding that we "move your cars now or I'm going to call." This was extremely disrespectful and unnecessarily aggressive. I was already about to tell my family that we couldn't park there, but the way it was handled was rude and unprofessional. Ironically, I was even considering Luna if my wait time at another restaurant was too long, but after that experience, I wouldn't think twice about coming here. If this is the first impression they give potential customers, I can only imagine the service inside.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Luna's, and I enjoyed our brunch. Luna's is a local place and serves good fare including a breakfast/brunch menu. Our party of four ordered: * Omelet with Bacon * Three Eggs Over with Pancakes and Breakfast Potatoes * Eggs Florentine * Steak with Two Eggs Over My eggs were cooked nicely, and the steak was thin but cooked nicely, tender and tasty. My breakfast potatoes were good, but tepid. The Three Eggs Over with Pancakes also received a positive review, both the eggs and pancakes were nicely prepared. The Eggs Florentine was considered good but not excellent, the sauce was just "okay". And the diner who ordered the Omelet was underwhelmed. Service was excellent throughout our meal, and the venue isn't fancy, but it is pleasant. Prices are very reasonable here, our brunch totaled $85 before the trip. Based on my Steak and Eggs, the service and the value, I'm providing four stars for this visit.

Yelp
Food was delicious and fresh. The Service was quick but very quiet for a Friday night.

Yelp
I came in with high hopes on my first solo brunch of September. I ordered a build your own omelette and espresso martini. The service was ok but the food and drink lacked flavor. Breakfast potatoes bland and mushy. The espresso martini tasted almost chalky- which I don't know what to make of that. The omelette itself was fine but nothing to write home about. The one thing that they had going was the ambiance. Music was a vibe. I had just gotten my food when the table next to me was sat and the guy immediately asked them to turn the music "way down". Their server obliged and they spoke so loudly that I was basically in their inappropriate conversation. I wanted to move my table so bad but I couldn't get my server's attention so I just hurriedly ate my food and asked for the check. Finally they charge you to use a card for payment, which I believe is illegal in MA.

Yelp
Food was good, get the wings appetizer. Service was great as well. Great place to go for dinner if you are having to stay at a hotel near the airport.

Mike T.

Yelp
The food was so good. We had the potato skins for an appetizer which had great flavor, but seemed just overcooked or dry. The chicken carbonara was amazing. I had the green tea drink which was on the sweeter side, and on the small side for the price. It was ok, but I've definitely had better for the price. The bartender was good, but definitely seemed somewhat overwhelmed, but was very nice. The restaurant was very nice, very clean, and inviting.

Yelp
Lobster omelette options for brunch and shrimp scampi for dinner, wide variety of options here. Arepas, burgers and steak tips are also choices at this casual dining spot in Eastie.

Yelp
A cab cut me off at Logan, and we spent too long dealing with the accident. Wife and I were pissed off and maybe not at our best, and we were going to have to stay at the Airport Marriott and the traffic was terrible and nothing was super close. The guy at the reception desk recommended Luna's. It was about a 10 minute Uber. The place was not too crowded, one table was singing happy birthday in Spanish, one table had two people each reading books. A child at one table broke a glass, and no one freaked out about it, which I thought was nice. Service took a few minutes, but we weren't in a huge rush. I was leaning toward the Latin dishes, but we noticed everyone was ordering burgers... And they looked good, and huge, so we ordered likewise. We also ordered Empanadas, chicken, which really hit the spot. I'm not sure if they are homemade, but they were delicious. It took a while to get the order, but we were okay thanks to the Mojitos. The Burgers were very good, nothing life changing, but we were hungry and a good burger lands well when your angry after a car accident. The Mojoitos were very necessary. They were not too boozy, not too sweet, and very full of fresh mint. I had two. If I wasn't flying out early the next morning, I would've gladly had another. So thank you Luna's, you made a bad day a little better and reminded me of the restorative power of a good drink and burger. Solid 4 stars if you're ever in the same boat.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service and very kind staff. We were visiting the area and stopped here for dinner before we went home. I had the carne asada and it had so much flavor. It was very tender. My friends had the shrimp fettuccine alfredo and the salmon. They both raved how delicious it was. Portion sizes are more than enough and most likely you'll take some home. We didn't have room to have dessert but they did look delicious.

Yelp
Very good food, good service and a nice business casual feel. The Latin flavors run strong and strangely enough, the rice was fantastic.

Jerome M.

Yelp
Great food, great ambiance and great service. Had the jalepeno spiced margarita and it was great. Also had the Arepas and let me tell you, these things are huge. I ordered two and it was like ordering two quarter pounders. Highly recommend only ordering one if its for yourself. The arepas is ok...I think the bread type layer was really hard to cut into because everything just slides around. Other than that, it tasted really good.

Millie M.

Yelp
The shrimp risotto was soo creamy and good! The arancini... was cheesy but the tomato sauce was slightly jarring like a pinch of sugar would have been amazing! All in all a great experience ... would come back and try them again!

Jim M.

Yelp
On a work trip and was staying near Logan Airport. Went to Yelp to see what was around and read a couple of good reviews about Luna's. The food and service were excellent. Try the mussels for an appetizer, they were the best. If you like really good food at a nice neighborhood restaurant while you are staying near Logan, this is the place. I will definitely be back

Yelp

Yelp
I was craving fish and chips on a Sunday night. Lunas popped up as an option in a Yelp search and was about a 10 minute walk from my hotel. It's a very well lit, clean and comfortable spot. I was greeted promptly by a very friendly hostess and I chose a seat at the bar. My bottled NA beer came with a nice chilled glass as an option. The fish and chips were good; the fish was fresh and flaky although not very crispy which is what I like. The fries weren't very hot which was disappointing; my personal sore point is not having hot crisp fries with an order of fish and chips. I would return and try some of the other menu items if I'm in the area again.

Yelp
Nice restaurant near Constitution Beach. After a nice Saturday at the beach looked for a nearby restaurant and decided to try Luna's as we had felt like some Latin cuisine. Arrived at about 7 PM and was seated promptly and hostess was pleasant. Nice modern decor / ambiance inside and waitress was very good and was knowledgeable and provided some good recommendations. Started with the empanadas appetizer had two chicken and two beef, nicely prepared, presented and tasted very good. Ordered their soup of the day, clam chowder and was loaded with clams and was in a large bowl enough to share with your better half. The AREPA VENEZOLANA was very good and surprisingly was much larger then we were expecting, stuffed with shredded beef on one and other was loaded with chicken, they were excellent and tasty. Loved the fried plantain that was sandwich in the arepas. Had the special desert that was offered that day, the apple galette and was very good and large enough to share for two. Will have to try their Italian dishes next time we are in the area as looked good when we saw other folks food being served.

Yelp
Ignore the location of this place; it's good food! Luna's is pretty small, so do make sure to get a reservation. It was only 1/4 full when we went, so we didn't need one, but you may. The food is pretty good, and they handle the Latin/Italian fusion well. My only complaint is the amount of garlic and lemon in the shrimp scampi. Garlic is good, but I shouldn't find a dish spicy because of it. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, so whatever. Sometimes you just pick the wrong dish.

Yelp
A huge disappointment. Their "panzanella" salad isn't panzanella at all. Just bagged iceberg lettuce with 3 stale (bagged) croutons on it. My husbands spaghetti & meatballs was just ok. All tasted packaged. Nothing deserving of a 5 star review. Bummer. We were really hungry after driving all day.
google avatar

Yelp
I really liked Lunas, although it feels like a tight nit family, close friend circle restaurant vibe I walked here from my hotel for dinner late night on a work trip. Highly recommend the carne asada entree (medium rare) cooked to temperature nicely, and a good cocktail! Jack and diet hit the spot. They had a full bar to choose from.
google avatar

Marni M.

Yelp
Second time coming to this restaurant and was as satisfied with the visit as last time. Service is always friendly and accommodating. For drinks my friend ordered the cosmopolitan and I had the mango margarita. Both were fairly strong and tasty drinks, would have had more if I didn't have work the next day. For appetizers we shared the arepa paisa, Tuscan calamari and fried yuka & pork. All were served fresh from the kitchen and very tasty. My entree was the carne asada which was huge and also delicious. Loved the side salad included as it balanced the whole dish. My friend for the montanero which was also large and good. Overall, great experience and will come again.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner here last night, the food, the service, the ambience all were excellent. Staff is awesome, very helpful with questions and recommendations. We had the shrimp crostini appetizer, and we shared the grilled salmon entrée, and then a bread pudding dessert. All of the food was top notch, and the drinks were fantastic. Will definitely return here again.

Yelp
Received a recommendation from the front desk staff at a nearby hotel. We found Luna to have a nice local feel. The service, food and cocktails were excellent. We tried the empanadas for an app. and were not disappointed. Our main entrees were delicious as well.
google avatar

Peter W.

Yelp
Yuck I ordered chicken Parmesan and got a hugely undercooked and obviously previously frozen whole chicken breast which had a crunchy and rubbery meat texture which could only come from undercooked frozen meat. Unsafe and disgusting. On the other hand the empanadas from this place are great.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast selections! Pleasantly surprised with Luna's! The service was super friendly and food was delicious. We ordered fresh orange juice as well and I had to get 2 more orders because it was sooo refreshing! If you're looking for a cozy breakfast spot in Eastie, I would definitely recommend Luna's!

Yelp
I haven't been to this restaurant many times, but the spaghetti & meat sauce is spectacular! Huge portion easily makes 2 meals - highly recommend! I'm only giving the restaurant 4 stars because I think I've only been 3 or 4 times in 4yrs, but that spaghetti - worth the trip
google avatar

Larry G.

Yelp
I had the paisano casserole. Linguini, red and green peppers, chicken breast, mild italian sausage , onion all sauteed in a perfect sauce with enough zip to interest my Texas palate. Always a pleasure to find well prepared food out on the road. This is a new location. I will be back, I encourage all to try it out. It is not rock bottom cheap, but at $ 17.95 I thought the meal was well worth it. I ate too much only took home 1/3 of dish.
google avatar

Karen J.

Yelp
Really interesting menu, great waitstaff, and excellent food. The space is smallish and nothing special but very clean. We loved the mix of Italian and Latin cuisine!

Margaret J.

Yelp
Delicious food! Best Marinara sauce I have ever had. Capresse salad was delicious and lunatic mini Sunday was the perfect ending to a delightful meal. Wait staff friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Came here for the first as I suggested this place to my boyfriend after reading all of the great reviews. It was a rainy day so when we went inside there was only one other table. We promptly got seated and ordered our drinks and food; I got a mango juice with the Dulce de Leche French stuffed toast with a side of bacon, and my boyfriend just had coffee and the Luna's special breakfast that came with pancakes, eggs, toast, home fries and a choice of meat. It took 40 minutes to get our food. The service was terribly slow and as there was only one other table I couldn't understand why it took so long. The servers were very nice so I don't fault them. The food was good, your standard typical breakfast. I likely wouldn't come back as I could go to ihop and have the same breakfast with better service, but I think if you're around the area you might want to give it a try as other customers had a better experience.

Adam G.

Yelp
Just had a terrible experience. I recently placed an order on Doordash for this restaurant for a salad and chicken wings. I added a note saying, "no breading" for the chicken wings. I am not allergic to gluten, just intolerant. I don't die when my mouth contacts wheat, I get sick if I eat it though. The wings arrived very dry and covered in breading. I called the restaurant and spoke to Jose. Jose said that they roll the wings in flour before frying them. I said, "that's breading." He said no it isn't. We couldn't get past that. I asked if he could do another protein to make things right. He refused. Additionally, he interrupted, gaslit and tried to make it my problem, not theirs. There are too many nice places in this area for this kind of nonsense.

Yelp
We were so happy with our experience here at Luna's. We were looking for a new place to try out since it was my fiance's birthday. The food and atmosphere did not disappoint at all. We had yuka frita, guacamole and tostones and calamari for starteslrs. The sauce on the calamari was so delicious and the guacamole with tostones was so fresh. I got the special swordfish dish and the portion was good and super yummy. My fiance had Cornucopia de mare which came with fresh garlic bread and the sauce was so unique. We had to finish off with dessert and had both the lava cake and apple galate. It was the perfect end to a great dinner. The wait staff was super nice and set up the heat lamp and music for us since we wanted to sit outside. Would definitely recommend coming here!
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at our first dining experience at Luna's. I had a shrimp dish that was amazing. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere intimate and clean. When we go back to Boston for a flight out, we will be sure to visit Luna's again!!!

Yelp
We tried this restaurant last evening after being unable to get into Rino's "again". Having had the lobster ravioli at Rino's in the past that was a target. The place is clean and the bar is nicely sized. Service was very good. We had a caprese salad which was very well done with large slices of mozzarella, garden fresh tomato and a "not packaged" balsamic dressing. The house Malbec was just ok. The hit was the lobster ravioli with loads of lobster filling and chunks of lobster in the cream sauce which gave the dish a great look and an added treat. We will definitely be going back!

Scott T.

Yelp
Best empanadas ever. Seriously. Amazing chicken parm too. Clam chowder was amazing also.

Scott R.

Yelp
We stayed at The Marriott Courtyard at Logan to catch an early flight. The "restaurant" at the Courtyard did not interest us. But my wife discovered "Luna's" a mere 10-minute-walk" away. What a discovery. Luna's is the classic local diner. Down-to-earth, lowkey, and with excellent food in both the Italian and Latin genre. We had Chicken Parm and Chicken Pisano Casserole (we were more in an Italian than Latin mood). Both dishes were superb! The atmosphere was ultimate casual, down home, and very friendly. Our server, Lara, was a delight. Try this hidden treasure!
google avatar

Maddie S.

Yelp
Went out for a birthday dinner with family at Luna's. For starters, the shrimp Crostini was well proportioned and flavorful, with notably high quality shrimp. The calamari, however, was not as impressive. It's texture was slightly chewy, and I also found there were too many peppers. As for entrees, I ordered the veal parmigiana. The sauce was quite sweet, personally not to my taste but otherwise no complaints. The noodles were ok, on the thicker side for spaghetti. The veal was a little chewy, but cooked well enough. The dish was decent overall, would recommend this parmigiana if you're looking for something filling and have a taste for sweeter pasta sauce. I highly recommend the shrimp costrini, and would stay away from the calamari. Good service, our food was also out fairly quickly. Overall above average, but nothing outstanding.

Angie R.

Yelp
The food was incredible! Such an awesome fusion of high quality Italian and Latin American foods! Highly recommended!!
google avatar

Chun T.

Yelp
We are craving for Italian so we decided to try this local restaurant in the lovely evening. We're seated at the outdoor seating area, it's very beautiful and relaxing. Food is pretty good. The burger is amazing!! It's the best in town so far. We also love the sweet potato fries. The service is very nice and friendly, however it's a little bit slow. We saw a table in two was pissed when they walked out. The only thing we don't think it's appropriate in an Italian restaurant is their music. They are playing pop music, it's kinda made their restaurant level down a little bit.

Sylvia H.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood restaurant with no frill ambience. I was looking for a good Italian dinner but was quite disappointed because the tomato sauce in the seafood linguine dish was spicy and runny. Service was also slow. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
I just got delivery from this restaurant - swordfish with grilled shrimp. It can be very difficult to get good swordfish out never mind delivery - this was fabulous. Clearly fresh, cooked perfectly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Delicious! Hidden Jem of great food, chill atmosphere and great service!! Very tasty.
