Where to Eat Chinese Food on Christmas Day in Los Angeles | Eater LA

Lunasia Dim Sum House

Google
Great place to have dim sum in the area since we don’t have much choice. Everything was great except that almost everything tasted a little sweet to me. The only thing I didn’t taste the sweetness was the stir fried flat rice noodles with beef. Also, they never came back to add hot water in the tea and I tried to get their attention but they were just too busy.

A must try dim sum place! Interior is very clean and service is attentive. A lot of unique dim sum that you wouldn’t normally found in other dim sum places. We got the scallop dumplings with squid ink, shrimp and pork siu mai with truffle , jumbo shrimp har gow, spinach shrimp dumpling, mixed puff with pork, rice noodle with shrimp, marinated jelly fish, roasted Peking duck, house special cucumber, fish maw and crab soup, and Taiwanese jasmine tea. Everything is flavorful but we love the roasted Peking duck and scallop dumplings the most. The filling is a good portion. You can take order by scanning QR code, convenient!

Food Everything was great!!! Some of the food was a little salty for my taste (I only eat out on weekends, and I eat home cooked food during the week), but the food was still very tasty. This is probably the most I have enjoyed dim sum at Lunasia in the past 5-7 years. Dim sum was not always my favorite, but it has grown on me. Service The servers were very attentive with the water and tea refills, provided the small bowl and spoon for rice (easier to eat than chopsticks on a plate), sugar, & lemon slices as requested. The only thing I would recommend is when the server gives you the to-go boxes, to not just throw the to-go boxes/bags, don't just throw them on the table like you don't care. I just laughed it off, but I would recommend paying attention to those small details, as other people may not be as forgiving. Might just be a cultural thing. Atmosphere I really enjoyed the different versions of the acoustic (calm) style of music that was playing. Really gives you a sense of calm to enjoy your food. Very relaxing even with all the commotion from other parties. Overall I still feel that Sam Woo Cafe (1st) vs. Lunasia (very close 2nd) is on the top of my list (my preference), only because of their vietnemese coffee, but other than that, Lunasia and Sam Woo are pretty close on food quality. The prices might be the only factor that differentiates the two restaurants and customer service. Give both a try. I believe Lunasia can seat more people. The actual wait time was supposed to be 10-20 minutes, but it took less than that to be texted to be seated. Very impressed. Enjoy!!!

Google
I've come here a LOT with my family, especially my auntie who always buys lobster(s) and/or duck depending on how big our party is. We love the food. We love Becky who is always so nice and helpful. What I'm annoyed about is that yesterday, a male Hispanic employee was quite rude to us. He was clearing our table as we were finishing our conversation and then had the audacity to interrupt and rush us to get up and leave when there were other empty tables around and say in an unpleasant tone, "What are you waiting for? Go! There are people waiting." There was no, "Is there anything else I can get you?" Or "So sorry, but there are people waiting for a table. If you are finished, we kindly ask that you allow us to prepare the table for the next party." If you don't know how to provide customer service, then don't work in customer service. If you don't understand East Asian etiquette, then don't work in a Chinese restaurant. I do believe some retraining on East Asian etiquette is necessary from management. This is a Chinese restaurant. You don't talk to customers like that when you're charging premium prices and they're leaving you good tips 😡 I've brought so many different groups of people and friends to this restaurant over the years and am really hoping this was a one off. While the food is good and most of the other staff is great, I'm not a fan of paying premium prices for food, only to be disrespectfully snarled at to leave.

Google
Found this recommendation on Reddit - have been searching for an authentic Dim Sum location and have had to get out of Irvine to find it! Food: Flavors are authentic, xiolongbao had the soup inside and pork flavors did not taste bloody at all, very 鮮. Both the shui mai and the prawn dumplings were unconventionally massive - enjoyers of these dumplings will have a great time - if you only find these to be so-so, perhaps the size will be off-putting. The skins in the pastry has added sugar I think - this helps bring out the fresh flavor of the pork and prawns. However in the Chinese donut, this means they are slightly sweet - which does change the flavors somewhat from the 'traditional' version. I did enjoy that you were able to order in quantities of 4,6, or 10 (I believe) for the steamed dumplings- a qr code and online ordering system is provided. Soy sauce is provided at the table alongside chili but you have the option to pay more for their house sauces on the side Things to consider: The turnip cake is made with diced turnip as opposed to sliced/grated turnip, which means it doesn't hold well together due to the moisture - the flavors are somewhat less intense than what I was expecting. The prawn 腸粉 skins were quite thick, and did not appear to be sweetened unlike the prawn dumplings. The food is very reasonably priced, service was quick and prompt. Tea was approx 5/pp - there is the option to just have water instead which is free. Dim sum was decently priced at approx 7$ for 4 dumplings - for 5 dishes we spent 60 USD (with tip) for two people (plus tea) Overall: in my opinion, this is a top location if you live in Irvine and are willing to drive 25-35 mins - we visited Saturday around 11:30am and there was only a 15 min wait. We will definitely come back as it is the best we've found so far! Perhaps more research is needed before crowning this place as the king in socal though~!

Google
Great dim sum place for business meetings. The noise level is manageable if you're seated in the booth. The ambience is better than your regular Chinese restaurants. Service is so so. They never switch away from plastic cups for water as well as the plastic containers for sauce. Their prices are higher than other dim sum restaurants. They are quite fast in serving you your order once you submit it on your phone (via QR code). Have visited this branch more than a dozen times, but never try their dinner service. Some of their dishes are better here: deep fried tofu w/ abalone sauce, spare ribs w/ black bean sauce, crispy shrimp roll, & sponge cake.

Google
Very good. A bit pricey but the quality is worth it. The dim sum tasted great. The macao egg tarts were especially good as were the shrimp spinach dim sum. The macao crispy pork and bbq HK duck weren’t as good as the dim sum. I highly recommend. Edit: I would also skip the spicy dumplings. Not spicy at all. Also wouldn’t get the pineapple buns or the cucumbers. The seafood chow mein was very very salty.

Google
Good place to eat with a big group of people. The food is very filling and tasty, and service is quick. The tea was good, but make sure not to leave your leaves brewing too long or they'll get bitter. My only complaints are that being seated right at the entrance is not fun. Especially when people are eyeballing the food that you have on your table. (Lol) A partition would have been great there. Also, no ability to split checks. Oh well.

Yelp
I recently came here for my brother's birthday dinner on a weekday night, and Lunasia absolutely delivered! The servers were so kind and attentive! They were constantly clearing empty plates, refilling our water pitcher, and just overall making sure we were taken care of the entire meal. Every dish we ordered was amazing and authentic. The dim sum classics like siu mai, har gow, and XLBs were steamed fresh just as you would get them in the morning! It's rare to find a restaurant that serves dimsum past 3pm! The Peking duck and honey walnut shrimp were my favorites and everything had such good portions and came out hot. They even blasted a happy birthday song for my brother, which made the whole dinner super fun and memorable for our family. If you're looking for great food, great service, and a lively atmosphere, Lunasia in Cerritos is definitely worth the visit!

Yelp
Food is always consistently good and fresh here. I came in on a rainy day, so no weight thankfully. But they do have a yelp online. Check in when it gets busy. Service is very quick. They have a well oiled machine. The place is clean and located in a large shopping center in Cerritos. I like the food here genuinely and would come back to try their dinner for other things.

Yelp
This restaurant has highest interior design in the cerritos mall area. I stopped dining there since I saw their roof leaking a few years ago. I happened to make wrong turn so I entered with intention to dine in but the Hispanic Salvador asked me if I needed to order to go when he saw my yellow crossing guard vest. I decided to sit down so I may help their business in a raining day, cuz I waited tables 40 years ago and knew how little my tips were when it's raining. The pork and shiitake mushroom slices were much more than I expected. Spicy dry wontons filled with fish paste were huge and first time I saw giant 8pcs filled that plate showered by homemade red pepper sauce. Very good combination and worth that 30-minute wait. I will return to try other dishes.

Yelp
F O O D The menu is pretty big and has your standard dim sum offerings. I felt like their portion sizes are pretty big for your value, and everything was absolutely delicious. I honestly can't pick my favorite item ordered; everything was absolutely delicious. S E R V I C E The service was okay. Typical Asian restaurant. They give you the option to order at the kiosk at the front of the restaurant for to-go. The vibe is pretty casual. L O C A T I O N I feel the businesses in this area are always so busy and reflects in their parking lots. I went to eat lunch on a weekend and didn't have to wait, but the restaurant was still pretty full.

Yelp
Private dining at Lunasia. I had no idea there was a private room! Decent sized room that holds about 40 people. Each table was able to order anything they wanted for the table (we had a dollar max per table) and it was a lot of fun. It was dinner time so we ordered some Dim Sum, soup, and lots of other dishes. Service was excellent! The dishes just kept coming out. We had way too many dishes for the our Lazy Susan but some how the servers helped to make it work. They were excellent refilling our water pitcher and hot tea! Food was very good. Dim Sum - the Siu-Mai (Pork & Shrimp and Jumbo Shrimp & Pork) were great! The Crunchy Shrimp Rolls were excellent. The steamed veggies (Bok Choy) and pickled cucumbers were excellent. Both the Baked and Steamed BBQ Pork buns were flavor lacking, some were using the Chili Sauce to flavor them up. The Duck with Steamed buns, very good. The BBQ Meat platter was great. The food was definitely freshly prepared. Definitely would recommend private dining at Lunasia.

Yelp
I recently placed an order for pick up There was something wrong with my order but I didn't notice until I was home. I called and explained that I had just picked up and order. They took my order number, apologized and offered to replace it or refund the item. And this is why I'll keep coming back. Restaurants aren't going to be 100% perfect but the ones that try to make it right are the best.

Yelp
I went to Lunasia close to New Year at 5pm. The place was busy and we got seated quickly. We ordered har-gow, shu mai, rice noodle roll, honey walnut shrimp, and beef chow fun. I think the food was okay. The wrap on the har-gow was very chewy and the shrimp was not as flavorful. The noodles rolls were cold. The beef chow fun was not outstanding. It's okay for a first time experience.

Yelp
1. The dim sum dishes are delicious! I really like how silly the rice noodle rolls were! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes! The interior is spacious with high ceilings! 3. The staff was friendly and timely with our order! The dishes came out separately as follow: Siu Mai, Rice Noodle Rolls, and then spare ribs! 4. There are only indoor seatings! There are a lot of tables! 5. Parking lot is big! However, it can get crowded depending on time and day! Note: There are restrooms for customers with multiple stalls! Yelp
This place is on the pricier side for dim sum But despite the cost, I still enjoy it because the quality is definitely better. We weren't super hungry, so we only ordered a few dishes to share. Since it was during the soft opening, the service was a bit lacking, one server seemed to be covering half the restaurant, and it was pretty busy. The food came out quickly, but it took a while to get the check and have our water refilled. We ordered: Shrimp and pork Sui Mai ($6.18): These were larger than the usual Sui Mai you get elsewhere. And honestly, is there anything better than not having to wake up early for dim sum? Having it for dinner is definitely the best thing! Fast forward years after their soft opening ..this place is still popular! It was hard to snag a reservation on OpenTable. I came on a weekday around 2:30 PM. There were still quite a few people inside, but no line, so a reservation doesn't seem necessary during weekday afternoons. They handed me a paper with a QR code to order, and I declined the hot tea which turned out to be a good call since most places charge per person for it and I can't have tea bcuz it interfere with iron absorption. I forgot how huge the portions were. The shau mai was massive -- took me four bites to finish one. Same with the rice roll with beef -- super generous filling, more than most places. But I think they charge extra for the sauce? I wasn't sure which one to use, and whatever came with it, i think just regular soy sauce, didn't really do the job, so that ended up being my least favorite. Surprisingly, the chicken feet were the star !super meaty and flavorful! Loved it so much, and it was the only dish I managed to finish completely. Service was decent. They gave me a big jar of ice water to refill on my own, which I actually really appreciated. Now that I know there's no need for a reservation on weekday afternoons, I'll definitely be coming here more often for dim sum!

Yelp
Dim sum house with extensive menu, prompt service, and amazing food. We have been to many dim sum houses, but this one excels at every dish that we have tried there. It is currently our favorite and we plan to continue to return anytime we can when we are visiting from out of town. So far we have had good timing with being able to get a table shortly after arriving, even when the place seems packed.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a reservation for 12:30 pm through OpenTable, and it was crowded when we arrived a little early. A few groups were waiting before us, but we still got our table at our scheduled time. You access your table's specific ordering website via a QR code. While I like physical menus since they reduce screen time at the table, the website made ordering highly convenient, especially beneficial for a bustling restaurant. The bustling ambience had a modern aesthetic with fast pop music playing in the background. I appreciated that the shades automatically went down during lunch service to block out the sun. Also, each table had an orchid, which made for a natural and pretty decoration. Our large order included chicken chow mein with black pepper sauce (crispy noodles), shrimp and pork wonton soup, bean curd rolls with pork and shrimp, stir-fried Chinese broccoli with flatfish, Mongolian-style beef, Macao-style egg custard, and mango pudding. I definitely felt a food coma after our filling lunch. The food is pricey compared to similar Chinese restaurants. While the Lunasia franchise isn't our go-to source for Chinese food, it's reliably good in my opinion now having visited this location twice. In general, I enjoyed the food. Except for a few minor issues, the quality overall wasn't lacking. For example, chow mein cooked as golden-brown noodles topped with a black pepper slurry is my favorite Chinese dish, and Lunasia did a great job with it. The desserts were tasty, and I'd recommend the mango pudding if your table still has room for dessert. The Macao-style custard was warm and subtly sweet. I had a few minor issues with the shrimp and pork wonton soup. While the wontons' filling and wrapping tasted flavorful, the broth was inconsistent and a little bland. While the Mongolian-style beef's sauce wasn't bland, it didn't really stand out. The beef was still tender. Also, the English menu didn't say that the stir-fried Chinese broccoli would have flatfish. It doesn't say what the Chinese broccoli comes with actually. Only when looking at the receipt did we see that the dish included flatfish, which was written in Chinese as "大地魚." I believe this would've only be stated in the Chinese menu. The flatfish was included just as tiny bits that didn't really affect the overall taste, however. Service was great in my opinion. For example, one server got us the right size and type of to-go boxes without us needing to specify. They had the blinds put down automatically. The servers were prompt with minor requests we had. Also, one server was proactive with helping us use the app. It eventually got difficult to get any server's attention, but it wasn't that big issue for us by then. Overall, I appreciated the efficiency, service, and quality of this location.

Yelp
I love lunasia ! Definitely one of the better Local dim sum houses. My favorites were the egg yolk bun and xiao long bao. And the steamed bao!!! Service is good and the restaurant is nice place to eat too. Just go on a weekday to avoid crowds.

Yelp
My sister and I have been wanting to try this local spot but there is always a line. We decided to try our chances and luckily, the day we went there was little to no wait. Ordering is easy. You pretty much do everything through an app. Order, they bring you the food. Then you request your check to pay. No real customer service. It's more of an in and out process. Turn and burn, if you will. They're clean and modern interior with remnants of Covid with clear and high dividers. The food was good but not great. I'd say a decent dim sum spot that isn't a break the bank meal. We'll definitely return when craving dim sum.

Yelp
A must try dim sum place! Interior is very clean and service is attentive. A lot of unique dim sum that you wouldn't normally found in other dim sum places. Everything is flavorful but we love the roasted Peking duck and scallop dumplings the most. The filling is a good portion. You can take order by scanning QR code, convenient!

Yelp
Food and service are great. Just the price is a bit more expensive than other places if you're willing to drive a little farther.

Yelp
Lunicia is destroying its own business by deceiving customers. We ordered Peking Duck but received Cantonese Roasted Duck instead. Even worse, the duck was obviously prefrozen and reheated before serving. As Cantonese diners who have enjoyed roasted duck weekly for over 40 years, we could immediately tell the difference: the meat was a dull gray, and the skin was soggy and unappetizing. When we raised our concerns, the manager claimed this was "Lunicia's style of Peking Duck"--a very poor excuse. Additionally, the men's restroom was wet, dirty, and lacked soap. Sadly, these are basic issues that many Chinese restaurant owners neglect. As members of the Chinese community in America, we must do better to improve our image and standards. I am a retired business owner, and I know that it does not cost much to make necessary corrections--from management down to the chef. The manager should know what real Peking Duck is, and ensure restrooms are clean. The chef should understand the difference between Cantonese and Peking duck, and never serve reheated, overnight food. Customers deserve better.

Yelp
I'm not a huge dim sum or dumpling lover, but my boyfriend is -- so I wanted to find a new spot for us to try. He said this place was definitely a great choice and loved almost everything we ordered. I think the favorite was the jumbo pork dumpling, but honestly, we ordered so much I couldn't tell what was what -- lol. That one stood out the most, though! The shrimp dish we got wasn't really my thing -- I wish the shrimp had been cooked a bit more, it was a little too soft for my taste. The service was really nice. We did a pickup order, and I was able to make all my selections on a kiosk, which I really appreciated. I didn't feel rushed or like I had to quickly tell someone my whole order on the spot. I had a long list and only waited about 20 minutes, which was great. Also I with the Bao had more meat inside it was mostly bread. The ambiance is quite and modern I almost want to say like modern fancy romantic I will say this place feels a bit fancy. So if you're just craving regular walnut shrimp, you're probably better off going to a local Chinese fast food spot -- that dish alone here was almost $20.

Yelp
What makes Lunasia stand out is its modern interior--definitely a step up from the typical Chinese restaurant vibe. It's a big space with lots of seating, but whenever we come here, it's always busy. Expect a wait, especially during peak hours and holidays. Ordering is done through a QR code that they place per table, which may be convenient for some but a bit difficult for someone who is not a techie. My senior parents would still prefer the old school menu books. It is also oftentimes difficult to flag down a server if you need assistance, so patience is key. The food however may make up for the hustle. Their dim sum is really solid--siu mai is a family favorite. It is humongous. They also have a good selection of entrées if you want more than just dim sum. Prices are a little on the high side, but the quality mostly makes it worth it. I also find it a bit disappointing that they have to charge extra for chili oil. If coming with a big group, I suggest to definitely try to make a reservation. Parking right in front is tight, but there are more spots in the plaza if walking a bit would not be a problem. Overall, great food, busy vibes- just plan ahead and be ready for the crowds.

Yelp
Steady, quality dim sum. There's not many of them around anymore. Twenty five years ago there were a few new dim sum restaurants opening every year. Nowadays, it's hard to find them, especially in Orange County as the older generation of Cantonese that opened restaurants in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s has started to age out. When Lunasia first opened in Alhambra it was revoluntionary... A dim sum house that kept the old favorites but also wasn't afraid to modernize dim sum plates. Today we take their tasty creations for granted. This was my first visit to the Cerritos location. You get the QR code for their online menu and order from there. You can order a few dishes and then add in stages as you go along. They have five different hot teas to choose from, which as a tea fan, gets me excited already. Dim Sum here might be a little pricier, but they don't skimp, as every dish that had meat in it came with large meaty portions. The sui-mai are large. The wontons are large. The fried shrimp dumplings are large. My favorites from our meal: Pan Fried Noodles w/ Soy Sauce - I'm always a sucker for this Cantonese diner staple. It's simple but always good. Thin egg noodles tossed with bean sprouts and green onions. Macau Egg Custard - Potats as call them (Portuguese style dan tat). What makes an egg custard pastry Macau style or Portuguese style? Flaky crust and a brown, slightly crystalized layer on top. Lunasia's version is not close to as good as I have had on the streets of Macau, but they are very tasty and satisfied my itch. Shrimp and Pork in Bean Curd Wrap with Broth - This has a lot of veggies inside and doesn't feel heavy when you eat it. I always enjoy a good bean curd skin and they do good with this dish. Hot and Sour Soup - I know, sounds cheesy, but I have a weakness for Hot and Sour Soup. It was $10 and came in a big bowl, enough for four people to share with extra. I'm not a big sui-mai person, but if you are, give either the truffle or caviar versions a try. They up the stakes with high end topping and it really does come out and make it a sumptuous, decadent sui-mai. Service is average here. In that I mean they get everything to your table fast after you put in your order but they are kind of swamped and don't always remember to check on your water or tea refills unless you flag them down. Some sauces here are an extra charge, like my red chili oil was an extra $1. The Cerritos Lunasia is in a very pleasant, modern dining setting that has a lot of natural light inside. All the dishes are good, but some are better than others, if that makes sense. I don't think any dish will disappoint, but not every dish will impress. I can't pinpoint why that is, but it was something I felt. There isn't much good dim sum in Orange County anymore so I'll gladly drive up to Cerritos to get some Lunasia!

Yelp
The restaurant itself is very pretty and nicely decorated. I recommend coming early because there's usually a long wait--though if you're a party of two, you'll likely get seated faster. Ordering is done through a QR code on the table, and once placed, the food comes out fairly quickly. Portions are generous, but the flavors fell flat for me. The food leans more toward Mandarin-style Chinese, which I found to be bland, rather than the richer flavors of Cantonese-style dishes. The sauces in particular were disappointing--thin and watery instead of thick and flavorful. Even the soy sauce tasted like the kind you'd get from Panda Express. Another drawback is that the restaurant charges extra for many things, even basic condiments like chili oil. Overall, the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and efficient service, but the food and extra charges don't quite live up to the experience. It's worth a try if you're curious, but not a place I'd rush back to.

Yelp
Lunasia in Alhambra is my go to spot on overall dim sum, their dim sums are delicious and more options and different kind of teas. This location in Cerritos is new right before Covid time. I was excited to try out with my family, their menu doesn't look the same in Alhambra, they served more dishes than several kind of dim sums. The Service is great, quick and easy, you can hold off your craving. Alhambra is always worst long wait. I stopped going to Alhambra any more, I came here more often but Dim sums don't seem to meet my expectations. Back here again with my co-workers and they ordered more dishes for lunch time. Nice vibes and good ambiance, clean, way better than other dim sum places.

Yelp
First off I do want to say, the interior is pretty, nicely decorated with modern vibes, I appreciate how clean this location is! The tea pot is cute and it's something that stood out to me. Service was pretty quick and friendly. As for my opinion on the food, Lunasia isn't my go to spot for dim sum but it is a decent place with all the classic dim sum options and more. I do think the food here is overpriced for what it is because the dim sum isn't necessarily amazing, in other words, it's not the best dim sum I ever had but it's not the worst. The har gow and siu mai were definitely bigger in size than I expected. The shrimp rolls, chicken feet, pineapple bbq buns and the fried glutinous dumpling were standard and dishes I would recommend ordering if you do come to Lunasia for dim sum.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Some of the food is good and some is okay. Nothing great. It's not like they're one up north. They charge you for chili paste which is sad, and the stuff they give you is crap. Try sam woo cafe down the road.

Yelp
HAVE: 5/5 Shrimp Har-Gow 5/5 Pork and Shrimp Shumai 5/5 Shrimp Fried Rice 4/5 Mongolian Beef 5/5 Fried Shrimp Dumpling 5/5 Sesame Ball TAKES: This is my favorite dim sum spot! While the price might be slightly higher than other Chinese restaurants around, the food quality is better in comparison. Just a heads-up: some condiments, like chili oil, are available upon request but come with an additional fee. But I assure you that the quality of the food justifies the costs. 4/5 rating for the Mongolian beef - the flavor was really good, but the meat was a bit chewy for my preference. SERVICE: I've been here a couple of times. They have a different way to order: you scan a barcode provided and order online. The food came one or two dishes at a time, and the service was fast, even when the restaurant was busy. But maybe a few more smiles from the servers would be nice. They also have an app for those who prefer to order ahead for faster pickup. I've used it several times for to-go orders and have never had any issues. AMBIANCE: The restaurant is small, but they make good use of the space. The setup is functional and comfortable. Parking can be a bit challenging since the restaurant is locatedmake in a complex with many popular dining options.

Yelp
Lunasia used to be a favorite, but the quality has definitely dipped a bit. The food is still decent, but not quite what it once was. Customer service was just okay--not great, not terrible. What really rubbed me the wrong way was the automatic 20% gratuity if you make a reservation. It's not clearly disclosed upfront, and that feels a bit sneaky. Ordering is all done through a QR code, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so clunky. You can't see what others at the table have already ordered, which makes it hard to coordinate a meal with a group. Also, they charge for most of the condiments now, which feels a little nickel-and-dime. This might be a spot to hit once or twice a year when you're really craving dim sum and don't mind some of the hassle--but for me, the service experience just wasn't enjoyable enough to come back regularly.

Yelp
Went here for the first time last night. Ordering was super simple by a table QR code. The menu online came with pictures to show and explain each meal item so it was really helpful. The food came out delicious and fresh each round. I loved that it was so comfortable and each table had its own area so you didn't feel rushed. I will be coming back here for sure to try new things out.

Yelp
OC is lacking good dim sum restaurants, so we headed to Lunasia in Cerritos to get our fix. The Lunasia in Alhambra was our favorite place for dim sum and we were curious to see how this compared. Ordering is done via QR code. Dishes arrived fairly quickly. The best were the ones with shrimp - their jumbo har now was as good as I remembered, as were the shrimp rice rolls. The jumbo siu mai, normally my favorite, were okay. The fried turnip cake lacked flavor. Unfortunately the baked BBQ pork buns have switched to a pineapple style, making the bun entirely too sweet. Maybe the steamed ones are better. Prices are on the high side so you would expect better service (which is slim to nil). They are busy on the weekends so join the Yelp waitlist if you can before you arrive.

Yelp
We came here yesterday on Christmas Day. Our wait was only 15 minutes. The restaurant was full of guests but we were seated comfortably at our table, didn't feel cramped at all. Service was great throughout and things felt clean, both of which were unlike some other dimsum eateries, so it was a bit of a pleasant surprise to us. If you don't want to scan the QR code to order the dimsum items, they can provide you with a printed ordering sheet. Our food came out in a timely manner. The flavors were all quite good. We'll definitely come back next time we're in Cerritos.

Yelp
This review is for the dim sum. We came for brunch on Sunday. Got seated pretty promptly and wait staff is very friendly. We're given the option to order off a paper menu or use QR code. Appreciated having options. Ordered our items and waited for the food to arrive. Ordered 6 items and the overall assessment is that the items are fresh but very bland and under seasoned. Portions are decent. Ordered sticky rice wrap, pan fried turnip cake, rice noodle with char siu, supreme beef ball, spare rib with black bean sauce and steamed bbq pork bun. First three were passable to the Cantonese palate. Last three left much to be desired. Underseasoned. BBQ pork bun texture was way off, not bread like at all...just mushy when you bite into it. Filling is bland. Ambience is good. Many Asian diners, but few Chinese. Very telling. Not likely to return.

Yelp
Lunasia is a great spot in Cerritos for some dim sum. I've only ever ordered to go and each time food has been hot and delicious. Staff is nice and food is usually ready with in 10min of your pick up time and be aware parking is hard to find there so I recommend bringing someone with you who can jump out and grab the food. If you plan to eat inside I would go earlier than later. Some of our fav items are the soup dumplings, honey bbq pork, honey walnut shrimp, baked bbq pork buns and the beef chow-fun.

Yelp
Decent dim sum spot with generous portions. I did not expect it to be that coming. It was somewhat annoying that you had to use electronic ordering. The tea and food was good. The dumplings were well prepared.I did not like that they used paper cups. Thankfully everything else was glass or porcelain.

Yelp
Service was quick and efficient. We went on a Thursday at lunch. Food came out quickly. The truffle siu mai was very good. The size of the siu mais were a good size for the price. All of the food were generally good.

Yelp
As with most Dim Sum places, the food is great & the wait is not. Loved the larger portion sizes, good variety of family style dishes, didn't like that the restaurant was stingy the sauces like hot mustard & chili oils to charge a small extra fee, and didn't like that the restaurant will try to rush you as they're always busy. Everything is pretty solid & favorites were actually the duck baos & the green beans! Solid on the texture of the beans & no bones with super juicy meat for all the duck baos & meat. Great place for larger groups of 5-6+, not too great for smaller groups. Parking is in a crowded plaza, & lines can be long.

Yelp
Food: 10/10 Steamed chicken feet: perfectly cooked. 10/10 BBQ Pineapple Buns: Delicious! 9/10 BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll: good. 9/10 Har-Gow: Good. 10/10 Pork and Shrimp Sticky Rice: Yummy and had tons of meat inside plus two shrimps. 9/10 Stir Fried Pea Sprouts with Tofu: Delicious but the goji berries were unneeded in this plate. 3/10 Spicy Sauteed Deep Fried Shrimp: Terrible with no sauce whatsoever. It was so dry! 8/10 Deep Fried Pork and Shrimp Dumplings: Good but it came with sweet and sour sauce. It's supposed to come with a white sauce. Service: 8.9/10 We came on Christmas Day which they were so crazy busy. The wait list was crazy long. A lot of times we had to wave servers down to ask for stuff but that is typical in a Chinese restaurant. Cost: 6/10 All prices are pre-tax. Everything is pretty pricey. Steamed chicken feet: $6.28 BBQ Pineapple Buns: $6.28 BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll: $7.28 Har-Gow: $7.28 Pork and Shrimp Sticky Rice: $7.28 Stir Fried Pea Sprouts with Tofu: $22.98 Spicy Sauteed Deep Fried Shrimp: $21.98 Deep Fried Pork and Shrimp Dumplings: $10.28

Yelp
Service and ambiance Quality & presentation of the food we ordered was outstanding. Had Dim Sum past 2 Sundays. The Dim Sum items were consistent in taste both days. Always piping hot when brought to your table. l highly recommended.

Yelp
11/18/24 Worked up an appetite after the massage & Lunasia was just the next block--how about some juicy pork XLBs? My auntie wanted to try this place she invited her sister, my mom, to treat her for her birthday. We seated promptly at around 5:30 pm on a Monday. For some strange reason, the staff only gave us one paper menu to share among the five of us & seemed bewildered as to the read we would request for one for each to peruse. After receiving a pitcher of ice water, paper cups & hot tea, We ordered: (2) XLBs, eggplant w/garlic sauce, seafood chow mein, calamari, Mongolian beef & sautéed bokchoy & steamed rice. These arrived very quickly, piping hot. As savory as the dishes were, yes, tasty but highly seasoned to the point of being salty, we requested for a bottle of vinegar to somewhat counteract the saltiness (my mom requested for hot water to dilute some of the dishes). One server brought one small, single serving of vinegar. We told him we wanted for the whole table. So he brings out five small containers. Usually, XLBs come with fresh ginger & black vinegar, these did not, had to request for it. I am impressed that my super critical mom actually liked the calamari. Overall, the dishes were delicious but just over seasoned. I dunked all my food in vinegar Portions are average, smaller than what we are used to. "Xui yin" (maybe pronounced "Shu Yin"?) was efficient & expedient. Service needs a lot of work but it's essentially what I expected (no more no less, basic). Ambiance is modern, fairly open & airy, music is loud. Christmas decor is already up & running. The lobby is very small. Parking is shared among businesses like 85°, Gen Kbbq, Creamestry, Claws, Monora Thai, etc.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place. I was craving dim sum and this place seemed the place to try. The service was absolutely terrible! First off you have to order off your phone that cuts off complete customer service from the staff/ waiter. I didn't know until we got there. The host who sat us didn't say hey if this is your first time this is how it works. After sitting there wondering if anyone would check on us we ordered on the phone. A waiter didn't even come and greet to ask if we had any questions and we had tons! it's like the staff deliberately didn't make eye contact with you no one stopped at the table to see how we were doing , no waiter not service no refills no nothing. Having to waive down someone to help you is ridiculous.ALSO this sit you down with tea and water but don't tell you it's $14 lol you think oh wow this is nice complimentary tea. The inside was nice but no customer service dining interaction is a BIG pass for me. We got not service but still expected to tip even though my phone did all the work. i def would not recommended this place or go back. The food was not even worth this experience. not even close. I'm sure there is better dim sum anywhere else.

Yelp
Good quality dim sum at a premium price. Came here for the first time on a Saturday morning. The place was really busy. Parking was a little hard to find. The interior felt more upscale and modern than most dim sum restaurants I've been to. When looking through the menu, I was a bit surprised by the prices. They seemed significantly higher than what I'm used to at other restaurants. We weren't very hungry so we only 4 items. After trying the food, I can understand why they charge the price they do. The quality was really good, and the food tasted great. Service was great, we received our food pretty quickly. Lunasia isn't going to be my regular go to dim sum spot for price reasons, but when I'm in the mood for a more premium and upscale dim sum meal I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We decided for Dim Sum today and drove to Lunasia and it was amazing! We were seat right away and they left a QR code for us to scan, and that's how you order. We ordered shu mai, steamed bbq pork rice rolls (btw 10/10 my favorite dish), pineapple bbq pork steam buns (also 10/10). The place is clean and beautiful and the staff is really attentive.

Yelp
Lunasia is the best option locally for dim sum. I think that most of the complaints have to do with its higher-than-average price point. Particularly because the service is not particularly attentive. Ambiance is upscale, but service is not. If you need something, you'll have to try to assertively beckon for assistance. After COVID, they made their table seating feel like private booths and I do like that they kept that in place. I do think that what makes Lunasia worth it is that (1) items are made to order, (2) many items like har gow and shiu mai are larger than average, (3) plated orders like walnut shrimp, peking duck, mongolian beef, and noodles are pretty nicely prepared here. (4) Their fried dim sum dishes have nicely elevated options. There are certainly some misses here. I've never been satisfied with their version of xiao long bao or dumplings. I don't really like having to pay extra for chili oil and having to ask for a small serving of spicy mustard or vinegar. These are necessary seasonings for dim sum and its why people are having complaints of "bland" dining experiences. If they were to make condiments more easily accessible, then people would be enjoying their food a lot more. I do think that lunasia is worth its price and I do prefer to come here than to drive to Westminster or Monterey Park. If you come here, I think that you can have a great experience as well - just make sure to get some chili oil and add your spicy mustard and soy sauce!

Yelp
12/29/24 Sunday dim sum visit I arrived around 1045a and joined the waitlist. 35mins for five people. We were slowly seated. We placed the orders and to my surprise, everything came out very quickly. To be honest, it was too fast and we did not have enough time to consume it hot. We ended up just being overwhelmed with the food and had to take most home. The service was fairly attentive considering how busy it was. There were a few items that did not taste the same as before: pork rib, pork puff, and chicken feet. The fried rice, roast pork and walnut shrimp was meh. Damage was over $200. Yikes! Definitely miss some good, affordable dim sum in this area.

Yelp
The best dim sum is here at Lunasia. All of their dim sum are big and feels like you get the best bang for your buck here. The weekends could be a two hour wait so try to go on weekdays

Yelp
This was my first time at Lunasia and have heard many good reviews about the dim sum here. I went with a large party so we were able to try 17 items. The portions are very generous and price is very reasonable. This was not the best dim sum that I've had but given the reasonable pricing, I would consider this restaurant as average. I thought the rice noodle rolls and the bean curd rolls were done well so I would order those again. The vegetarian steamed dumplings were bland and filled with some sort of unidentifiable crunchy white veggie. The gai lan was on the tougher side. The string beans were tasty. The pineapple pork bun was very thin almost like a crust vs a soft fluffy bread and the bbq pork filling was more like a paste. The steamed bbq buns were much better. The calamari had a thick coating of batter and was more like an Italian restaurant calamari than a Chinese restaurant. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the restaurant was large and clean, and the parking was plentiful as it is in a strip mall.

Yelp
Food is not even that great, you don't even get chill sauce to dip with dim sum, got to pay extra for condiments SMH. Their dim sum is "jumbo" size and over seasoned (salty). Better off going to bolsa and getting real dim sum. So you have order via website and food took forever to come out. The AC was blasting felt great when you just come in but that made the food cold with in 5mins. Came to they the two dim sum -image attached

Yelp
I enjoyed the meal. It was very busy when I went, The service was fine. The background noise in my section, however, seemed very loud. Thus,, I'd go again for social gatherings but wouldn't recommend that section of the restaurant at lunch time if you prefer a more quiet cuisine experience. The environment appeared clean and the food was good. So, it's a "thumbs up" for me.

Yelp
The service was really good but the food was mediocre. We ordered Dim Sum and everything tasted fairly bland. They also make you pay more for chili oil. Not authentic

Yelp
The juxtaposition of upscale and low end elements here is amusing. Stylish atmosphere with casual ambiance. Bib Gourmand pricing with fast food joint service. Metal cutlery paired with paper cups and condiment packets. A moderate, less formal birthday lunch kind of place I would say. Parking was terrible. With so many popular businesses in the same plaza, don't waste time and gas circling around. There's another lot to the west of Aldi next door that's a short walk away. Surprisingly the wait on a Sunday evening wasn't too bad, we were seated almost immediately after checking in. There was a QR code for us to scan on our phones and we ordered away! Shrimp Har-Gow ***** delicate and succulent Jumbo Shrimp & Pork Siu Mai ***** always juicy! Chicken Bao **** fluffy breading, flavorful filling Shang-Hai Pork Soup Dumplings *** decent XLB Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll **** slippery and savory Crispy Shrimp Roll **** had a good crunch to it Sesame Balls ***** a must-get always! Fried Rice *** won't knock your socks off String Beans **** needed one "healthy" side dish! Chrysanthemum Tea *** weak Prices and parking aside, it was a great sampling of several dim sum dishes and I left fulfilled. The food is more or less the same as I've experienced at their other locations. Orders came out in a timely manner and I didn't have to ask for the check more than once.

Yelp
My buddy wanted some dim sum, and this was our first time at Lunasia Dim Sum House, close by the famous Cerritos Auto Square in Cerritos, CA. If you're around this area, they have a great melting pot eatery, and the parking lot gets packed. The service was friendly and attentive throughout the dinner service. We ordered the following for our just okay dinner, but tasted way better than Tim Ho Wan in my opinion. 4/5 Purple eggplant stir-fry This has a nice flavor, and if you're not a veggie person, you might want to give this a try; it will make your taste buds dance. 3.5/5 Yang Chow Fried Rice It could use a little bit more flavor; the rice texture was just right. 3/5 Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs This isn't my thing, but it did have a nice sweet and sour flavor. 3/5 Caviar Pork Shu Mai Same thing, just with some kind of caviar on top and more $. 3.5/5 Pork Shu Mai/Chicken Shu Mai Not too bad; these bad boys were jumbo-sized. ?/5 Combo Platter I didn't try it; I bet it was kind of expensive, which I would never have ordered if it was comped. 3.5/5 Crispy fried shrimp wrapped with seaweed. Not too bad, good crispy texture, and you can taste the minced shrimp in every bite. 4/5 Service Service was ok; it was packed, and we were able to get a table quickly. Our food came out in a timely manner, but I had to flag the server about our missing chicken shumai. They serve water in a paper cup, not those cheaper plastic ones. Guess how much the bill was??? For this much, I'd rather go to an AYCE place and still get my money's worth and save a lot of money. I did have a good experience with the food, and I can tell you it's way better than the overpriced and overhyped Tim Ho Wan in LV. Thank you, Lunasia Dim Sum House, for a decent dinner and getting us a table quickly even though you guys were very packed. I would definitely come back and recommend this place if you're into dim sum and other Cantonese foods.
