The 15 Best Restaurants In Bar Harbor, Maine 2024

"Lunch gets straight to the point. There’s a numbered chalkboard menu behind the counter of paninis and Italian sandwiches, all of which can get quickly wrapped up if you want to eat on the village green or while adventuring through the park. The tandoori chicken panini comes with a curry slaw that gives the sandwich a warm savory crunch and tints the bread yellow, and you’ll probably want to bring a breath mint to chase down the capicola sandwich doused in herby, garlicky house sandwich oil. First of all, the vibes and aesthetic are just right. Well done, whoever put this place together. Second, the food is incredibly good. The clam chowder’s a must—creamy, thick, and packed with clams and whatever else they put in there. Really flavorful. The No. 1 Italian is among the most delicious subs I’ve ever had. It is absolutely stacked with meat and other toppings, and is a true feast. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Google
Such an eclectic sandwich shop ! We had the clam chowder, potato salad, #2 and the #3 special which is a Curry Chicken salad sandwich. Wow! Everything was delicious, fresh and filling. The potato salad used whole grain mustard and caramelized onions. The texture of the potato was perfect and the dressing so creamy. The staff was funny and even offered to refill my waterbottle!

My family and I loved our experience here! The guy at the register was very friendly & helpful as we ordered. He gave us free samples of their soup of the day which was good. We all got paninis that were sooo good! I went with the #6 which was a triple cheese panini and my sister and dad both got the #5 which was a ham & cheese panini with apples & balsamic glaze. We also got a bag of chips to share, and everything was amazing! I would definitely return to try their Clam Chowder & the Lobster Salad Panini! The only thing that could be improved is the bathroom situation was a little dingy, but I still think this place earns 5 stars!

Google
The food was delicious. The gentleman behind the counter was cheerful and friendly. The tables needed a little cleaning, and it was very hot inside. The New England Clam Chowder was absolutely amazing.

On our trip we stopped here for lunch. Ordered Clam Chowder and Lobster Roll 🦞. Food was fresh. Soup extremely good. Roll delicious. Recommend.

Google
Simple, straightforward, and delicious. We bought two sandwiches, clam chowder, and a salad. Everything was well-sized and very satisfying. And unlike most of Bar Harbor, a good value too - we had a bit of leftovers that we ate the next day too.

Ya Yay

Google
One of the best paninis I’ve ever had. (Got one with ham, cheese, and apples). Everything on the menu seemed like it would taste absolutely delicious. Also, love the decor!

Google
Amazing service, food, and atmosphere! I got the lobster roll which was the best cold lobster roll ever as it had amazing flavor! My parents got the tandoori chicken panini which they enjoyed. We also got a cup of clam chowder, which was really good. Service was super friendly and fast. I would come back if I’m in the area!

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch while we were wandering around Bar Harbor. Lunch Bar Harbor is nestled in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. We were in the hunt for highly rated lobster rolls and this place came up. It's an order at the counter situation and they'll call out your name to pick up your food. They have seating inside but it is limited and pretty basic (ie: this isn't a place you go to for the atmosphere). My dining companion and I ordered lobster rolls, a cup of clam chowder to share, and potato salad to share. The lobster rolls are made Maine style (cold, lightly mayo coated lobster salad served on a toasted split roll). They had ample lobster and were tasty. The potato salad was also solid. The clam chowder was seriously out-of-this-world. It was absolutely the star of the show. I'll be dreaming about that chowder when it's the middle of winter in Wisconsin. The service was a little short and not overly friendly--but I get it. It's the end of the tourist season and folks could just be a bit tired. The prices are also a bit high (two lobster rolls, a small cup of chowder, and potato salad = $95). That chowder, though.

Yelp
Was in Bar Harbor Maine and in the downtown area and ate down there but I wanted to try something a little further out of the main area and we found this restaurant. The menu is small and their hours are during lunch. I saw they had a good rating so we waited for them to open. I had the clam chowder and lobster roll and my wife had the #1 Italian sandwich with potato salad. I didn't know what to expect on the lobster roll but it tasted plain to me. But the clam chowder was very tasty and I would get it again. My wife's lunch was good. She couldn't finish the sandwich so I got the other half, did I say the lobster roll was small? The potato salad was different and had a good taste and I would get it again. Overall it was a good spot to eat and it was different.

Yelp
If you've ever seen the Seinfeld episode with the soup nazi, this place will peak your interest. The homemade soup was phenomenal. A soup and sandwich shop with a set menu, it offers paninis and a variety of deli sandwiches. The gentleman that takes your order rings you up, dishes out your soup, answers the phone, and calls out your name, delivering your sandwich to you. He keeps the line entertained in the meantime..." feel free to talk amongst yourselves ". An old Irish gentleman with an accent he has a great line for each spam caller as well. The experience is part of the fun! The ham panini was delicious as well!

Yelp
If you're looking to bring a sandwich or other picnic oriented items with you to one of the many scenic spots in and around Bar Harbor, you can't go wrong with Lunch Soup & Sandwich. We phoned in an order (they're order online option appears to be broken) for the Italain #1 and the Special #2. We added drinks and potato salad. The we heads for Jordon Pond in Acadia National Park. The sandwiches were great and the potato salad was very good. We'll do it again the next time we're up that way for sure. Pro tip: If you're phone in an order, ask them about the specials. My fiancee would have loved one of the special sanwiches in the board when we arrived to pick up our phone order.

Yelp
Great rustic lunch place for LUNCH. Had soup and salad with lots of lobster salad on it. Hit the spot for our lunch. Service was quick and friendly.

Yelp
Great food, even better people! This was the cutest little sandwich shop (also sell soups and salad). This is an order at the counter and find a seat place which was honestly nice to avoid the wait times if you're a big party. Everyone's sandwich was delicious and fresh! Also the lovely older gentleman and his young assistant working behind the counter made our day!! We grabbed a seat by the window and enjoyed the charm of the decor inside. Highly recommended this for lunch after a hike or exploring downtown. Could also be great to grab and take for a picnic in the park right out front or walk down to the water.

Yelp
Really amazing sandwiches Great service! Love the atmosphere! The Italians sandwiches are fresh warm and delicious.

Yelp
PLEASE GO HERE! First of all - family owned with dad cooking in the back, grandpa taking your order and grandson getting your drinks from the cooler just makes the homey and relaxed vibe. They're super friendly too! We ordered the #3 Italian, the special grilled cheese with fontina cheese, grilled onions and bacon, and potato salad. Absolutely spectacular! Best food we ate so far in Bar Harbor. The potato salad was the best we've ever had. Unique with a slight mustard taste but not overpowering and incredible. A must get. The grilled cheese should be added to their main menu. I would want it every time. This goes without saying but... Food: 5/5 Vibe: 5/5 Value: 5/5 - would have paid anything for how good it was but $30 total Service: 5/5

Yelp
Seating is limited so hurry up for lunch. We grabbed seats by a bar counter. And our sandwich's came out fairly quick & they were yummy. The gentleman at the counter is a character filled with charisma! We enjoyed lunch & headed back to the park.

Yelp
This place was just ok. We had just hiked the beehive and were starving. We got soups, a sandwich, and a lobster roll. Nothing was bad, but nothing was particularly good. I wish the tomato bisque was creamy. Next time I would try another spot in Bar Harbor for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Holy hell! This was amazing! The super energetic and vivacious guy running the register and taking orders convinced us to try the two lunch specials and I'm glad we did. My wife got the Turkey special and I got the Italian special after a long day of hiking and shopping. My wife said that her sandwich brought her back to life, and the Italian...not sure if I have the words. After one bite, I said it was ONE of the best sandwiches of my life. By my third bite, I can say it was easily the best sandwich of my life. Stop by, eat a sandwich and chat it up with the staff. You will NOT regret it. Next time we get back to Bar Harbor, this will be our first food stop. High quality breads, meats, and sauces!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches and soups. Seating is limited, but it's across from the village green if you can't get a table. My favorite was the panini #3 with prosciutto, Gorgonzola, fig jam, and walnut butter, but everyone liked their sandwiches.
google avatar

MICHELE M.

Yelp
Quick and superbly tasty. Had a tandoori chicken (helpers are just not wrong!), ham, apple, cheddar w balsamic, and turkey and smoked cheddar sandwich. Prices between $11-15 per item. Table seating indoors is limited but we snagged on by being earlier than the rush that started at 12:30. Will be back again!

Yelp
Fantastic service and good sandwiches. The owner is hilarious and very nice. My only complaint is they were out of several options when we visited due to a busy weekend, but the remaining options were very limited.

Melissa K.

Yelp
Bah, we were underwhelmed. Everything was fine, not bad, not great, not memorable, nothing we'd feel the need to come back for. Ambience/decor was fun. Sweet potato soup had a nice little kick but otherwise pretty bland and watery. Tomato vegetable soup tasted healthy. Soup was served with our favorite brand of oyster crackers. Nectarine, arugula, Brie, and honey sandwich was fine. I couldn't taste any honey. Bread had a nice toast on it. Didn't taste as good as it sounded. For me needed something else...maybe balsamic? Seasoning? Tuna melt had a hearty portion of tuna which was fine tuna salad. Nothing else on the sandwich. Prefer tuna melt with more to it, like tomato slices. Tasted like it was missing something.
google avatar

Stan H.

Yelp
The sandwich I had was better than I expected. It was a hoagie type of sandwich, but the spices on the bread and the condiments and freshness flowed well. This was through a foodie tour- so that may've helped. It seems this place is known for their sandwiches in general too- except their lobster roll. I don't normally think of this kind of place for a lobster roll and it sounds like they should take it off their menu. If I want lobster in Maine, I want it to be an experience. Maybe if I lived here, I wouldn't try to be so fussy. Staff is friendly. Casual and pretty fast here for food.

Rohini G.

Yelp
Came for lobster rolls. Well buttered and crisped buns with generous amounts of lobster. I wish it was warmed better and I have had larger lobster rolls for the price but not in the Acadia area. They tend to have long lines so come prepared to wait (I came around 2:30p past peak lunch hour and still waited a good 15 minutes). Servers were really nice but they only had one person taking orders when several guests were waiting and the orders still took another 15 to be served.
google avatar

Phil B.

Yelp
Little off the main path of tons of tourist. That was great. Inside a bit of a dive. Lobster Roll was good but not the best I've ever had. The roll was wonderfully toasted and buttery. The filling was not large chunks more smaller pieces but didn't look like any fillers. Was happy they had bottles of unsweetened tea. Young lady at the counter not overly friendly. Interior I'm sure was probably clean but really looked like it needed a deep clean done. If this was a place near my home I doubt I'd be back.
google avatar

Sarena R.

Yelp
Sandwiches were stellar. Great place to stop for lunch. Park with benches right across the street. First time trying actual New England clam chowder and it didn't disappoint!
google avatar

Morgan A.

Yelp
I'm not the person who usually craves a deli sandwich but after I had one of their special Italian sandwiches I couldn't help myself from getting it again the next day. I never had a Italian sub with pickles on it but it works. The sandwich was warm and had a slight crunch when bitting into it. The sandwich had so much flavor without being soggy. The cashier was hilarious and the service was excellent. The restaurant had a unique charm to it. It was filled with antique food ads , posters and recipe books. Don't pass this place up when visiting Bar Harbor.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Soups and sandwiches are two of my favorite things, so coming here for lunch was a must! Every sandwich sounded incredible, so I asked the cashier and he guided me to the Italian #3. My husband got the Italian #2, both were incredible, but the #3 was definitely more spicy and flavorful. The staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is enjoyable. I'd totally recommend!
google avatar

Efrem P.

Yelp
It was hot in a very crowded tourist spot and me and the wife found a nice place that servers really good sandwiches. The bread was delicious and the ingredients were superb. We got a clam chowder just for kicks and it was excellent too. Great spot in a crowded competitive area. 5 stars.

Michelle M.

Yelp
The Italian Sub and Clam Chowder were amazing. I'm not usually a fan of an Italian sub, but the adorable proprietor heats them, uses delicious bread, high quality meat and fresh mozzarella cheese! This took it to the NEXT LEVEL for me! We were disappointed to find he had run out of the Tomato Basil soup, but we did come for lunch after 130 pm. We also had the grilled nectarine panini, which was super too. The place was super busy so expect a line, but it's worth it. Would go back to this business next time I'm here, for sure!

Yelp
3.75 stars. Cute place but wasn't blown away by the food. Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 5/5** A very sweet gentleman took my order! **Decor & cleanliness, 3/5** Spacious interior, no outdoor seating, and not as cute as a lot of these other restaurants with gardens and patios. **Price & portion, 4/5** A tad pricey for a small-ish panini without any protein. **Taste of the food, 3.5/5** Took this to go and ate it about 30 minutes later, so I know this isn't a totally accurate rating. I got the grilled nectarine, brie, arugula, and honey panini for $13 ($15 after tax and tip). The slivers of nectarine were sparse so I couldn't taste them much. The brie came through but in some parts of the sandwich it became overwhelming and would've benefitted from being balanced with more nectarine and honey. I was also still hungry after because it was a small sandwich.

Madeline W.

Yelp
First of all the sandwiches were delicious. The #3 panini was a good combo of sweet and salty and I love sourdough bread. I believe the food is locally sourced as well which is cool! Considering how busy it was they made the sandwiches relatively quick. I also enjoyed how they decorated the inside. Good experience overall.
google avatar

Tracy F.

Yelp
We enjoyed our sandwiches here! We had an Italian and a tandoori chicken panini. Both had great flavor! It was expensive, but I feel like all food is expensive in Bar Harbor. I also had a side of the potato salad. It was very mustard forward, like stone ground mustard. It was a bit overwhelming. Overall I would go here again and try some of the other sandwiches that sounded great. They had a curried chicken salad that sounded amazing! Definitely a nice departure from lobster and seafood at every meal.
google avatar

Gina L.

Yelp
Call ahead to order and skip the line. Limited hours (will sometimes close earlier due to availability), and a small but diverse menu. Interesting panini flavor combos (tandoori chicken, nectarine + Brie). Didn't try their Italian sandwiches, but they looked generously packed. Tasty clam chowder although not fully warm, possibly because they'd just opened. Some outdoor seating (picnic tables) with indoor seating as well. I know this would taste amazing after a hike. Paid parking on street or lot near Bar Harbor Police Department.

Aiden F.

Yelp
Amazing Sandwiches and great service! There was a great ambiance and the man who served me was an absolute blast. Overall great spot!
google avatar

Sharon N.

Yelp
After hiking the Precipice trail in the afternoon, we were hungry for lunch. Since the condo we were staying in was a 3 minute walk, just up the street, I decided to go here and get our lunch to go. I decided on the Italian sub #2 with the addition of cherry pepper spread and lettuce. Man, oh man, was that sandwich hitting the spot! With crunchy, toasted bread, melted cheese, onions, pickles, not to mention all the meats! I definitely recommend this place and this sandwich!

Hattie H.

Yelp
I wouldn't return. The woman at the cash register was extremely rude and seemed bothered by us being there. She needs a major attitude adjustment. The ordering system is silly (why are there three #2 sandwiches?!). My sandwich (panini with prosciutto, Gorgonzola and fig jam) was almost inedible. Overly salty and the bread fell apart from too much jam. The bathroom floor was filthy. I honestly don't understand how this place is as highly rated as it is. Save your money and go elsewhere.
google avatar

Lei G.

Yelp
We stopped in to Lunch as part of a food tour of Bar Harbor. We had a Italian sandwich and it was fantastic. The ingredients were fresh & tasty but the toasted crunch of the bread too the sandwich over the top from delicious to fantastic. It was a memorable eat & absolutely worth a stop.

Wesley W.

Yelp
Best turkey sandwich I ever ate! Tomato soup and lobster salad were awesome. They must have a real chef. Glad we happened on this place!

Wes M.

Yelp
Great historic decor, a tasty pannini and a view over the city park. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Casey G.

Yelp
Top 10 meals of my life. Lobster salad panini and a cup of clam chowder. Service and ambiance were great. Cute little shop off the main drag. I also tried my kids egg salad, grilled cheese, and Italian panini. All were fantastic!
google avatar

Tricia B.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a restaurant that tells you exactly what they're about? Lunch! They have a menu of soups and sandwiches, and if you're eating with a group a good way to try different sandwiches is to team up and split them in half. There is indoor and outdoor dining (as of October 2021). The lobster roll was the start for me. Delicious lobster meat, well seasoned, reasonable price, and a full roll. Absolutely yum.
google avatar

Connor J.

Yelp
The hidden gem of bar harbor's restaurants! Most of the restaurants downtown seem to have a very similar menu so if you are looking to change it up I would go here. You are greeted by a very animated and fun sailor from Ireland to take your order. The restaurant had a eclectic, upbeat harbor feel to it. The food was the best part. Highly recommend the New England clam chowder, it's pretty wicked as an appetizer and the best we had down town. The combination they put together for the sandwiches were amazing and was a big part of why we enjoyed this gem.
google avatar

Terry Z.

Yelp
Probably the best meal we had while in Bar Harbor!!! Sandwiches where amazing and the owner is Irish and the nicest person ever!! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!!
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
Looking for a super-tasty, craft sandwich without the fancy trappings? This is a must-eat spot in Bar Harbor. Creative flavors, well executed, with warmth now typical of a place that serves a lot of tourists. Grab a sandwich when you're in town and you'll be glad you did!
google avatar

T C.

Yelp
Really delicious sandwiches and a very funny cashier with British accent! Will definitely return for more sandwiches!
google avatar

Anna John H.

Yelp
Perfect spot for a light lunch! I had the daily special which was a roasted turkey BLT with pesto aioli and I had a bowl of tomato basil soup! Both were delicious! I went at 1:30 and while busy the service was excellent. The man taking orders was kind and efficient. There was no outdoor seating but the restaurant is directly across from a nice park with plenty of seating options and nice views!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Amazing place. We stopped in to get some food after hiking. The food was amazing and reasonably priced for Bar Harbor. Great value for the quality. We tried the lobster bisque and grilled cheese (that name doesn't do it Justice!), egg salad, Italian, and turkey sandwiches. All wonderful and each had great seasoning and flavor. We walked in behind the owner/chef and he seemed like a great guy. The Irish man taking orders and handing out food had the best personality. One of the best experiences!
google avatar

Sabrina Y.

Yelp
Amazing sandwich!! One of the best I've ever had. Very fast service as well. Cute restaurant as well!
google avatar

Jenn H.

Yelp
My husband and I were starving after completing the Jordan Pond trail and had a late lunch here. Sandwiches and soups were simply delicious! Everything was fresh and hot and full of flavor.
google avatar

Elana Z.

Yelp
We worked with Porter to put in a large order for the after party of our wedding and it's all our guests could talk about! They came and set up a variety of sandwiches, all of which were so delicious! They even made caprese sandwiches for us despite them not being on the menu. The #3 spicy Italian was a huge hit. Can't recommend this place enough!!
google avatar

Lora S.

Yelp
What a wonderful find! Very unassuming looking spot that turned out to be a treasure! The fella working the counter (originally from Ireland) was an absolute delight! The food was fabulous! My husband and I shared a #2 Italian, an order of pasta salad, and a bowl of the beer cheese potato soup. All were top-notch delicious! We liked the #2 Italian so much that we ordered two more to go to eat on the road the next day for the drive home from Maine.
google avatar

Holly M.

Yelp
This was a good place. We picked up sammies to go on a picnic with. The turkey ones were really good. The bread was a little tough all around. I had a prosciutto sandwich and there was a ton of jam or something on it. The sweet really overpowered the taste of the sandwich as a whole. It was way too much sauce, I think in this situation a little bit would have gone a long way.

Melanie H.

Yelp
I really like Lunch. It is a cute spot and the sandwiches were made and delivered quickly. We did not stay to eat, but the smell of the restaurant did linger on us. I would have grabbed sandwiches here all weekend if I could have.

Nick H.

Yelp
Guy at counter was great. Had personality and wit. Clam chowder was excellent. Also had 2 sandwiches both great and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
Stopped for a quick lunch after hiking. Good selection with unique sandwich pairings and accommodating to diners with allergens!
