14 Affordable Wine Country Restaurants

"The CIA is in on the take-out game, using the former ticketing booth at Copia as the pick-up window for its lunch offerings. Menus change frequently but a bowl of seared tuna Niçoise salad with rare tuna, baby lettuces, and all the fixings rolls in at $15. A Philly-style hoagie with layers of Italian deli meats and pepperoncini is $14. Make an excuse at the office to pair it with a cup of frosé ($8) and hang out in the gardens or the backyard amphitheater all afternoon." - Christina Mueller

Wow. For being one of the most reasonably priced meals in Napa, this meal was phenomenal. It was fresh and made to order. Honestly, the flavors reminded me of that scene from Ratatouille where Remy tries strawberry and cheese for the time paired. I’m excited to come back and try another dish!

This is my favorite lunch place in Napa! Such wonderful sandwiches and gorgeous healthy salads with so many fresh vegetables! And SOFT SERVE! Definitely a must while in Napa!

Awesome sandwiches (served with the crispiest potato chips you’ll ever find) and very friendly service. As a self proclaimed soft serve ice cream expert, this place has the best soft serve ice cream ever. Carrot cake is also phenomenal. I drove 2hr just to have lunch here and wasn’t disappointed one bit, totally worth it.

Great place to pick up lunch! Food is great, and they have several healthy options available. My group had the turkey sandwich, noodle bowl, and quinoa bowl - all were delicious.

My wife and I were “snacking around Napa”. We got White Bean Hummus and Pita with pickled vegetables. The vegetables were better than the hummus.

loved the very friendly staff and that you‘re able to eat the food near the gardens. small menu, but everything seems so fresh! :)

I was in a bit of a hurry and ordered here. It was expensive and the portions were small. The salad and the grain bow not that good. I had similar bows at supermarkets for 1/3 of the price. If you are in the area, I recommend going to Market and order there. I spend basically the same amount the day before and the food was much better.

The crab roll was one of the tastiest little sandwiches I've ever had. A great latte as well. A pleasant surprise on Monday afternoon.

Yelp
This open only M-F and place an order outside /side window parallel to COPIA entrance to the building. The banh mi lemongrass chicken & pate sandwich is load exotic flavors . The bread was fresh and crunchy at every bite; sandwich was served with in-house potatoe chips; light, crunchy and salted just enough. Staff very friendly and accommodating. You can eat anywhere by the garden, wine lounge or take it with you for perfect picnic lunchbox.

Yelp
We ordered the tri-tip sandwhich and the Al pastor torta. Great price awesome layers of flavors as you bite in. Great out door seating only. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I was hoping for the shrimp sandwich but it wasn't available the day I went so I had the chicken bahn mi. I found it to be overly salty and it was served with salty seasoned chips. There's no service but yet you're prompted for a tip. Why? The advantage perhaps of eating here is it's peaceful outside by the garden, and the prices are more reasonable than some of the other near-by eateries.

Yelp
My first instinct is to say this place is such a hidden gem, but it's actually not hidden at all! It's literally across the parking lot from the popular Oxbow, and right there in front of the beautiful CIA at Copia building. CIA by the way doesn't stand for the Central Intelligence Agency here (that would be weird), but the Culinary Institute of America, so rest assured they know food and the culinary arts here! A sign out front says, "Voted 'Best affordable wine country restaurant' by Eater San Francisco," and if you walk up to the order window, 2 more accolades are displayed: Best Sandwiches West Coast (Sunset Magazine) and The heart of Napa's food scene (Ultratravel). My hubby and I browsed the menu, and immediately knew we'd have to come back the next day and try it. So fast forward, and we were back at CIA at Copia for lunch and ordered 3 incredibly delicious, fresh and healthy items to share: 1) Grain Bowl (vegan & gluten-free) w/ quinoa, seasonal succotash, sprouts, and more 2) Mushroom Melt sandwich (vegetarian) w/ arugula pesto, and we asked for no gruyere cheese 3) Garden Wrap (vegan) w/ hummus, braised greens and seasonal veggies For such a casual place, even the presentation of the food was attractive, and we fully enjoyed eating our lunch right there at an outdoor table near the CIA at Copia garden. Keep in mind that Lunch Box is only open M-F 11am-4pm (we didn't realize this and tried to come back the next day, which was a Saturday, only to find it closed). It really is a great place to grab an awesome quick, high quality lunch to-go or to enjoy in their peaceful outdoor setting. Before or after your meal, you can roam around CIA at Copia, from the beautiful garden to the indoor areas, and the upstairs Culinary Arts Museum. They even have a great shop there called Marketplace at Copia that sells all sorts of wonderful things for your home and kitchen. Truly a gem in Downtown Napa!

Yelp
Tri tip Friday what caught my eye, then I saw the Cubano. I am a sucker for a good Cubano. I asked for a rec and the young lady said the Cubano was good. When I got the sandwich it seemed small to me and I thought to myself I paid 15 bucks for this little thing. Once I opened the package and I saw the heaping amount of roast pork my mind was changed. It smelled absolutely wonderful. The first bite made my mouth water and I couldn't wait for the next. Great balance of flavors and very filling. I took a star off because they are quite slow, no one in line and no orders ahead and it still took a bit of time. The parking is a challenge. This is a great lunch option in the area.

Yelp
I can't think of any reason this place would get a 1 star review. Their ice cream is by far the best in the valley. My daughter enjoys the Ruben and I am a huge fan of the crab sandwich. I'm pretty sure whoever wrote the 1 star review was just having a bad day. This place is so much better than anything you can find to eat at oxbow. Plus there are better seating areas in the garden. No tourists pushing into you. Really great spot.

Yelp
We had hoped for better. The sandwiches were tasteless and on bread that was too thick. The salmon stood out as the worst of their choices. They aren't inexpensive and certainly not for the lack of value.

Lost Dreams ..

Yelp
The food is absolutely delicious! Very tasty and fresh. Definitely one of the best lunch places I've ever been to. We ordered lunch to go, and brought it to a nearby winery. However, I'm giving it a 4 rather than a 5 because I think they messed up my order. I ordered a salad and they added ingredients that were not on the menu.

Yelp
Lunch Box was the jam! The salads were as fresh as can be and the sammies were out of this world. Loved the smoked chicken and pickled onions and peppers. To top it all off they have soft serve ice cream. My kids were in heaven. Service was also great and there was plenty of space to eat outside. Drop your fork where you are for lunch right now and head over. Why are you still sitting there? Go now and say yum for me!

Yelp
Best Reuben sandwich ever!!! Great portions and definitely worth the wait. I love this place!!

Yelp
I may try the other lunch boxes in the future but the Mezze bowl was really disappointing and don't recommend it. The bowl was 60% - 70% pita chips and a very small spoon of hummus and yogurt spread with a few fresh and pickled veggies. I hope it was an error but for $14 I expect more than pita chips.

Yelp
Fantastic fresh sandwiches! The organic Straus's soft serve with adult toppings is a great treat! Get it without the amarena cherries for your kids buy the cherries are the best I've ever had!
