What Happened to Quaker Rice Cakes, America’s Favorite Health Snack? | Eater

"A family-run rice producer that helped popularize rice cakes, producing brown rice varieties early on and continuing to innovate with products like cinnamon-toast flavor, chocolate-covered Thin Snackers, and bite-size minis; the company reports strong sales — millions of bags produced annually and a recent 14% year-over-year increase — with peak demand in January around New Year's resolutions." - Brenna Houck

I'm disappointed in this company. Originally they had a variety of wonderful gluten free rice flavors. A few years ago, they began tapering back, and so I had less options. Now they've stopped using brown rice and instead have white rice in all their boxes. Problem: when cooked, the white rice becomes a giant, blobby mass, which resembles the texture and appearance of chewing gum and wet cement. Why? Why change a great product? The new rice doesn't even smell good when it is cooking. What happened? This company used to be awesome, and as someone who is gluten intolerant, I depended on them. Now I have to go elsewhere or probably do the smart thing and learn how to make my own rice dishes.

What a success story, and what a modern business, a name known far and wide in both the rice industry and sustainable farming practices to boot. Its a great story of how the Lundberg family came to California from the dust bowl era and founded sustainable agriculture decades before it was fashionable. Great unique stand alone rice varieties but value added products also, crackers, rice cakes, bowls and quick cooking prepackaged selections. They have a retail area in the main office to pick up your favorite today!

Google
High quality rice, nice clean facility. You can buy the 25 lb bags directly from them by going to their front office. Twice now I have purchased two 25 lb bags of their rice while driving south on the CA-99. Much cheaper than the 2 lb I get at the grocery store.

I love the history of the family and how they came from the Dust Bowl and were instrumental in the organic farming protocol in California. The staff was so inviting and friendly here at the outlet store. I'm so impressed by the stories of the waterfowl coming back to California in the fly zone and how these flooded rice fields in the winter are such an important part of the birds coming back and how they save the duck eggs before tilling the ground in the Spring.!! So thankful for what the Lundberg Farms family and employees have done to help our world!!!

Google
Great team and company!!! I arrived, registered, got the door, stood in the door and they started loading me. Half an hour and it's done! Super. The guys are kind and responsive at the registration. Respect to such people! It's nice to work with such people.

We love their organic rice however they need to put the rice into a different type of bag that you can get the rice out of easier.

Yelp
Deal with your packaging and your rice cakes I love most of your products but you have not found a way to keep your rice cakes from crumbling in the packaging. I would love it if you could fix that. And tonight is the second time I've purchased a 1 lb. very pricey box of gluten free pasta only to have it pop open in my grocery bag, requiring me to salvage what I could into a zip lok. Not cool. Looking forward to updating this review when these things are fixed!

Yelp
A lady a ran into a few weeks ago had Lundberg's rice chips. I was immediately taken by them but when I asked what aisle she picked them up at her response was minimal. She didn't speak English that well. When I remembered the rice chips the other night I walked all around my local grocery store where I ran into the mysterious women, hoping to find the chips. Score! I did! I bought the wheat free, gluten free seaweed and sesame rice chips. Fell in love with them! These are not anything like bland old rice cakes that grandma had to eat. I liked them so much I devoured the whole bag in one sitting! Somethings can really get out of control sometimes!

Yelp
WOW! I feel compelled to write this because I truly believe Lundberg has a superior product, particularly the RICE CHIPS (they are gluten free, Holler at all ya'll Celiacs!). I am a busy woman and I even took the time to email Lundberg to tell them how awesome their chips are and I don't get too emotional over grocery store products. Additionally, their risotto mixes (in the box - make yourself) are ultra good. I made the butternut squash one the other night and added a bag of steamed butternut squash I picked up from Trader Joe's with some caramelized onions and WOWed my dinner guest. It was easy! A wider selection of their product line is sold at places like Mother's Market, Whole Foods, or whatever your local granola-shop is called however you can find their basic stuff at the main stream groceries as well. XOXO, -Die hard Lundberg's fan.

Yelp
The products that Lundberg Family Farms are not only healthier for you but are really good on the old taste buds! What Healthy food that actually tastes like real food and not cardboard you say??? Yuppers!! I started buying their Risotto and just fell in love with the taste and to find out that it's a healthier alternative to rice pilaf or any of those boxed rice dishes. The Creamy Parmesan is my favorite. And then come to find out that they made Rice Chips... Duh... they have to be good right.. Well not only good but Scrumptiously good! I bought the Pico de Gallo, the Fiesta Lime and the BBQ... all of them delicious.. So good that when I have a get together I serve them instead of your run of the mill tortilla chips and people rave about them. Asking me what kind are these chips and where did I get them. My boss even buys them now and talks about how addicting they are because you can literally finish off the whole bag. Their chips are wheat and gluten free. And for about 10 chips they are 140 calories and 17 grams of carbs. Their ingredients have no corn syrup, high fructose, or any hydrogenated oils.. A plus and plus and even more of a plus...Go do yourself a favor and buy there products, they are outstanding! You can find their products in So Cal at Whole Foods, Sprouts, Albertson's..

Yelp
Bought the butternut squash risotto. Barely a taste of squash & the rest is salt - 660 mg per serving @ 3 servings per box. Yikes!

Yelp
Great healthy products from this family owned business!

Yelp
These people are AWFUL! They are rude to customers because they are one of the largest rice growers in CA. Their sales reps cannot be bothered to give you the time of day, will not return phone calls and are supercilious at the food shows. When you call them, the receptionist, Tiffany, is the same way. They continue to raise their prices because they are the 800 lb gorilla and yet treat their customers with disdain. LOOK ELSEWHERE. There are many smaller, organic rice growers in CA who appreciate their customers. They've forgotten that customers put them business and need to be reminded that customers keep them in business.
