Singer Kelly Rowland Returns to Houston to Dine at Her Favorite Local Restaurant — This Is It Soul Food | Eater Houston

"A Houston-born Tex-Mex chain Rowland describes as an essential, go-to spot—especially when she’s craving queso. She pictures the same familiar atmosphere she remembers, enjoying chips and queso with a bit of taco meat stirred in, accompanied by a margarita, as a simple, contenting meal that captures the chain’s reliably comforting flavors." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
We just moved to Houston and our great friend Johnathan recommended this as “The Best Mexican Restaurant in Houston!” We came on a Sat at lunch and were not disappointed! I have lived all over the US and this indeed has become one of my top 3 picks. The service was exceptional and the food was phenomenal. They have a small play area off the enclosed patio seating. The decorations were spot on as we came the day after Halloween. Positively a 5 star experience!

Lupe Tortilla is one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants to eat at. I stopped in tonight to get my favorite (Chicken Quesadillas). I really love great customer service, and I receive that every time I stop by. Management, and employees are amazing, and everyone is so polite. I visit this location a lot, and I wanted to make sure that I left a great review. I have attached a photo of my dinner from tonight. Thank you again, management and crew. You guys rock.🙏🏾💯🙏🏾💯❤️❤️🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾

Google
Lupe Tortilla delivers a consistently satisfying dining experience that highlights classic Mexican flavors with precision and care. The guacamole stands out with its fresh, vibrant taste, perfectly balanced and made to order. Their beans complement the meal beautifully, rich and flavorful without being overpowering. The mixed fajitas are a true highlight—cooked to perfection with tender, well-seasoned meats and a delightful medley of peppers and onions. Additionally, the queso is excellent, creamy and flavorful, making it a perfect starter or accompaniment. Overall, Lupe Tortilla offers a well-rounded menu that showcases authentic Tex-Mex cuisine at its best.

Google
I have been a LONG time customer of Lupe - my favorite location was off of the tollway - closer to 1960 and you can se airplanes take off overhead from bush airport as you dine - i found out my coworker was best friends with the manager - precovid - I am in the memorial city area and I like this location a lot - never any issues - love to take my family when they are in town i wont be back after inviting 10 friends to the restaurant we dispersed to our vehicles , my mother was approached by security, my 70 year old mother and the armed security with visible firearm said they had a couple of “questions” for her my mother did not take to that kindly - as she was just waiting for her grandson at his car security apparently called the manager and instead of apologizing to my mother she basically excused him “well hes security” maam if your security thinks a 70 year old woman is a threat - lol - please i highly recommend the spot by the airport i mentioned love love love disappointed by what they call a half order of fajita - the size of the palm of my hand as a short girl - dont remember them being that small but it is what it is its a shame - my mom didnt want me to leave this review - Be careful in the parking lot where security seems to lack good judgement and discernment and be carrying a firearm. The food was good - not sure on portion size for fajitas the play area was ok the servers were very kind safety could be an issue

Honestly the food has fallen off a good bit. The fajitas are still your best bet for quality. Everything else in my past few visits has become subpar. Honestly they are starting to play it safe with the seasoning on most dishes. The fajitas are still pretty good. Nice char on everything but honestly starting to lack quality on some of the sides. And they're refined. Beans have become watery. The Chara beans have started to lack season even though I requested guacamole and no avocados anywhere near my plate, they still came with avocado on my dish along with the pinko de gallo and cheese. I asked for sour cream instead. Nowhere in sight even after I had to send the sides back with no guacamole because of my allergy. It's not a taste thing because I would not have sent it back. The sour cream was missing upon return once again. So I proceeded with my meal because I'm not going to send something back twice no matter the mistake. For Taco Tuesday a bit loud even to be what was expected. I don't have a problem when going in into a space and expecting the volume. It's the rowdy guest and physical movement of guest and knocking over of items from guest tables But it was a bit much and enough to mention. I know better than to sit near the bar, but I'm guessing this whole place is the bar now. I always make a stop here for every once in awhile. I try to make and move across the menu inside of a few visits per year. And this year 2025 all I have to say is the fajitas while pretty good There are other places you can go. Sadly I am not sure Lupe tortilla is worth a taste anymore. We will see

Oh wow Sooo good! Visiting from California and trying to talk the owner in the moving home with me! I wish I had more time to sample everything from the menu!

Took a date on a Saturday night and it was a very enjoyable experience. It was busy, we waited about 20 minutes but we were able to get a spot at the bar and get a drink and there was plenty of outside area so we just enjoyed the evening outside until the table was ready. Got a nice little spot along the wall, had nice lighting and a nice ambience for a date. The star of the show in the food department was the salsa and beans they served. The salsa was chunky and flavorable and the beans were outstanding. Had chicken fajitas and margaritas and everything was great. Service was a little slow, but it was busy, and our server was attentive and everything was on point. Would definitely recommend Lupe Tortillas and I will be back.

Google
Food and drink were really good, but we received the worst service from Oscar. I don’t know what was worse. Him almost hitting me in the face with his elbow several times while taking our order, or the fact that he was dismissive, inattentive, or that we had to go up to the front to have them find him so we could pay. We were there for my son’s bday and spent over $100 between the 2 of us. A shame that this is where he wanted to go and we received such terrible service!
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
Decent amount of parking outside and good amount of seating inside. I will say the ambiance is super loud and a bit overstimulating. It's pretty dim inside and the low ceilings makes everything feel more cramped. There is complimentary chips and salsa- I liked how the chips were thin and crispy. Ordered the steak lupe which was filling and a good size. I really enjoyed the lime marinated steak because I love when things are flavored with lime. The service was ok, it was busy but they seemed to have a good system going. I haven't had other tex mex food to compare to but this spot seems like a solid spot you can't go wrong with especially if you want something simple.

Yelp
Food is always fresh and hot! One of my favorite Tex Mex restaurants! For a healthier meal option their Fajita wrap is delicious! Service is always great and restaurant is clean.

Yelp
Food was pretty descent . 7/10 . I had the quesadilla with chicken ! We had tacos , salmon and some dips . Tortillas were good not hot/fresh but were good . I like the dips (beans ) super good . Service was cool , waiter was energetic but got one of our orders wrong so one of us didn't eat .. it took too long to get the food . They give kiddos a free ice cream . Ambiance is live very noisy but I enjoyed myself .

Yelp
Original Lupe Tortilla. Service and atmosphere: We really like this location for its charm and cozy environment. The restaurant is Nicky decorated and organised. It has homely feel about it. There are plenty of seating areas both inside and outside. The service was good. Food and drinks: Extensive selection of food menu items. You can find many familiar Mexican dishes here. - I ordered chicken Juanita. Unfortunately, the chicken was super overcooked and very dry. I had to use salsa that was served with chips to moisten the meat. - Mexican pizza is simply crispy tortilla with meat and cheese melted on top. Would choose something different next time. We have not ordered alcoholic beverages but they have good selection of them. Pricing: $$ regular for most items. Some seafood or steak dishes go over $30. P.S. this is my favourite location for the atmosphere (4 stars) but prefer food quality from other Lupe Tortilla restaurants. 3 stars for food at this location.

Yelp
The absolute best steak fajitas you could possibly imagine. No question. The atmosphere is very hard to explain but it feels like you're in a home in the middle of Mexico. The wait staff was prompt and very helpful. I HIGHLY suggest visiting this location if you're in Houston!

Yelp
Lupe Tortilla is by far the best Tex-Mex spot in Houston and is a longtime staple for me and my family. I've been coming here since I was a kid! I prefer the Original spot because it has a more homey and cozy vibe than their other locations. Plus, it has a sandbox, which holds so many memories from when I was a kid. I always make sure to bring out of state guests here. Their fajitas are just so juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Their complimentary bean dip is also my favorite. Two downsides that I can think of. 1) They don't accept reservations. But there's so much seating available that the wait has never been too bad for us (from what I recall). 2) They don't offer margarita pitchers. Lot parking is available. Overall, I LOVE Lupe. If you're ever in Houston, be sure to give this spot a try!

Yelp
There is lots of parking with a policeman (not a security guard) watching the vehicles. Our waitress, Karla, was new to serving, but you would never know it. She was very attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Forty years ago I think the building was a home--lots of small rooms with eclectic decor consisting mostly of Mexican "stuff" and African animal statues. We enjoyed looking at the many items on the ledges and walls. Beans, pico de gallo, and chips were brought to our table as soon as we were settled. We ordered the trio salsa (Cilantro Jalapeño Sauce, Queso, and Spicy Red Sauce). All were very good. Our margaritas were fantastic and went great with the beef and chicken Tacos al Carbon. We will return to Lupe's for another fantastic evening.
google avatar

Jahaida B.

Yelp
The food is wonderful -- at least what I ordered. However, the size of my fajita order was smaller than the little appetizer plate they brought. Honestly, that's disappointing, especially considering the price. When I mentioned it, I wasn't looking for anything more than a polite response. Instead, I got jokes and was told they have a larger portion meant for two. That wasn't the point. I left feeling dismissed, which isn't how I expected to feel after an otherwise good meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Will never be back.! I've never had to argue with not only a waiter. But then the manager and they were so rude. They asked me how the food was and if everything was good, I told them no that there was only bell peppers on a menu item that listed vegetables then they told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that I could just leave and never come back so I would never come here if

hala a.

Yelp
Honestly, it was a very bad experience! The service was poor -- the waiter was unprofessional, disrespectful, and couldn't even explain the menu or organize the orders properly. The food tasted terrible, and the portion size was way too small for the price. The outdoor seating area was dirty and completely unorganized -- tables were messy and clearly not cleaned or maintained. Honestly, a disappointing experience overall, and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
google avatar

Antonio B.

Yelp
This restaurant is a maze once you enter. It reminds me of a house that was converted to a restaurant. Nice, but a little confusing if you need to find a restroom. The waiter was attentive and provided good service. The taste of everything was good. The chicken Lupe according to their menu is 2 chicken breast. My qualm is I did receive two chicken breast, but from the pictures you can see that I received one chicken breast and one chicken tender. Although they were good, I would have throughly enjoyed a full size chicken breast.

Yelp
We've been going to Lupe's since it's inception but have moved to another area. Yesterday we stopped at the original one, the one we went to for years, on our way back from the hill country. We had to ask for menus. We had to ask for chips and salsa. 2 poblano chicken dinners came with crisped cheese on top, burnt cheese on the plate, and the rice was dry... and hard. The pepper chicken was dead dry and tge rice all dried up. What happened to the best little Mexican restaurant in town???
google avatar

Tinishia A.

Yelp
I was in this area and did a search for a Mexican place near me and Lupe Tortilla popped up so we drove on over. The parking was limited due to this restaurant being on the corner with 3 other restaurant at the other corners... but there was a parking lot in back that I didn't see because I was lucky enough to get a spot directly in front of the entrance. We went straight to the bar because we were only there for margaritas!!! I ordered Lupe's Grand Marnier Margarita on the rocks with salt. Man, this drink was quite yummy and strong!!! The drink is served in a small glass that you pour into the margarita glass... but if you order frozen, it's already in the big margarita glass. I must say I was a bit disappointed that we were not offered chips and salsa even though we were not ordering food, but it wasn't a huge deal since we were already stuffed from our meal we had just finished somewhere else. Had we not been pressed for time we would have had another round and if I'm in that area again and want a margarita, I'll go back there.

Yelp
Super nice service. Chips and queso are good. Super thin chips. Had the burrito with ground beef. Was tasty with lots of flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
This location is a perfect place to enjoy a margarita and some Tex mex like fajitas. Love their tortillas with salsa. Plenty of seating.
google avatar

Joan G.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great and the service was excellent. We had margaritas and they definitely had the alcohol in them. Queso was solid. The chips were light and crispy with just the right amount of salt. We had the jalapeño cilantro chicken - which was frankly a bit bland. We also had the chicken fajita pablano nachos. Loved them. They were individually dressed so each bite was perfect. We got a flan to go which was top tier. Overall pricing was a bit high for what you got.
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance was perfect for my private meal . I enjoyed my appetizer ribs was perfect amount. The music was pleasant and my waiter was just Amazing (Jimmy) he was nice and helpful. Will be back really enjoyed it

Yelp
When asked "who has the best texmex in Houston ", my answer is "Lupe's". But I mean the one off Highway 6, not this one in Katy. Here in Katy the kitchen isn't the same, the food not quite as good. The service can be spotty too. Take my last waiter for instance. You would have though you were in Boston he was that surly. 3 stars for atmosphere and drinks.

Yelp
Came here for the 1st time and oh wow, they got playground in sand for kids to play while parents sit table right there outside enjoy meal while watching our kids play. Love it here, it give us parents peace to eat and talk. Drinks are bomb! Food are amazing too, would so recommend this place. Will come back when it warm outside!!! Services was okay

Yelp
Not a fan of this chain but was told this location was different. That wasn't the case on todays visit. I was greeted as I entered and didn't have to wait to be a seated. My waiter was very quick with welcoming me and bringing me my drink. I was brought chips, salsa and a cup of beans before I placed my order. I decided to try the Green Chicken Enchiladas which comes with rice and pico. My food came out within 3 minutes! Everything was going good until my first bite. I took a scoop of rice and realized it was cold and under cooked to the point It was crunchy. I tried the beans and it was clear they were canned beans with no additional seasoning. The chicken inside the enchiladas was tender but had no flavor at all. The tomatillo sauce tasted watered down. The service was good but the food wasn't.
google avatar

Yelp
The best, oh my boss, I love you. Sir Thank you so much.1 4 BMI mentor you're the best you bill. I really good company. Like you say quality of food service. Is the best. Make deep puff feel like they're coming home ambent is the best
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Our party of 6 was seated quickly at ~8:30pm for our group dinner. We enjoyed our margaritas, and the queso flames do with beef fajitas was outstanding. The Chicken "soft tacos" we're really enchiladas basically and were loaded with shredded, moist chicken. Wife liked her Shrimp tacos. Service could have been better though.
google avatar

Maeve G.

Yelp
This is the best Mexican food I've ever had. This was also my first trip to Houston. We went on a very busy day and did have to wait awhile for a table, so keep that in mind that it gets really busy. The staff was very kind and accommodating to us. The food came out hot and fast. I got the puff taco and it was amazing! My fiance got the fajitas and he really enjoyed them. I also got the tres leches cake which was amazing I will say it does get crowded and the tables are small. I do wish the noise level wasn't as high because it is hard to have a conversation with the people at your table due to how loud it was.
google avatar

Melody L.

Yelp
The food is great every time, service is awesome! Parking can use a little adjustment ! But overall I will recommend this restaurant and it's wonderful atmosphere!
google avatar

Yelp
This review has no bearing on the server Ethan. The food is always good here this is why I love frequenting the restaurant but after this experience I will not revisit. I loved the atmosphere and I was looking forward to try something new off the menu. However, If you have a food allergy do not go to this restaurant. On my last visit I wanted to try out their vegan option and opted for the (Ensalada Verde)$14.95 : Mixed greens, roasted poblanos, avocado, pico de gallo, queso fresco, choice of housemade dressing) as you can see this menu item doesn't have mushrooms in it, yet when I received my meal it had mushrooms. Which I'm allergic to. I explained this to the server who apologized and assured me that they would replace my salad. After waiting for several more minutes someone returned with the salad that should've been a newly remade salad, minus the mushroom. Not trusting that they did the right thing I moved around a few pieces of my salad to be sure. Guess what's in my salad? Yep, you guessed it, "mushrooms" These people never remade the salad, but instead removed some of the mushrooms and proceeded to serve it to me. Incredible! I can't make this stuff up.

Angela N.

Yelp
Love the food, I have been going to eat here for years. The service is so much better than the original Lupe Tortillas which was proud of their bad service.. but back in the 80's & 90's the food was better Still has a Great vibe
google avatar

Mitchell M.

Yelp
---Dearest Reader, I write with the utmost urgency. Lupe Tortilla remains a 5 star. However, I think I have stumbled on to a hidden gem on the menu. For so long I've been wishing someone would review this dish. That day has come, destiny is mine, this is my Excalibur. Behold their Mexican Pizza. This is not your Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza, this is the real deal. I'm not kidding y'all, the crisped flour tortilla passes the "no flop test" yet doesn't eat like a tostada. It's an amazing crust and holds up to all of the ingredients. ---Until my next discovery, Mitchell
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Service was absolutely fantastic and food was good. No complaints really. Do wish that they had traditional ceviche, I was really craving some but the closest thing they had was the campachana which was okay but too much tomato flavor.
google avatar

Allison N.

Yelp
First of all the food management or menu does not cater to anyone vegan we simply asked for no onions and for squash instead and it was a really big deal. Ultimately we had to pay for an extra side of squash because apparently they don't accommodate people here that don't eat meat.theh said the guacamole was fresh but when i asked for it without onion (allergy) it was impossible to do that as well. if you're vegan, I suggestyou don't come here with your family.

Yelp
Restaurant is always packed but somehow the food always arrives promptly. The restaurant is large but features several small dining areas, so the place appears to be small. The chips and salsa is definitely house-made, and even comes with a bacon bean dip that is to die for! I've been coming here for about 8 years, and have always gotten the taco salad because it just too good! It's the best taco salad I've ever had anywhere. I've only ordered it with the taco meat, so I can't comment on how it is with the other options, but I would definitely recommend this dish! My partner ordered the enchiladas, and he widened his eyes the moment he took his first bite. I come to this location just because I have lots of memories attached to it, but I've heard great things about their other locations. The only downside is the parking situation. There are several other restaurants in the area and they all share the same parking spaces, so it can be a bit tricky.

Xenia G.

Yelp
The food is really good!!!! We went today 8/16/25. The bartender Nico didn't even ask us if we needed anything I had to flag down another bartender Rudy to get us a drink! And he really didn't want to help us either. Mind you we were there already 20min! Nico helped about 4 people before us and didn't even ask if needed anything and we go EVERY WEEK!!! At this point I just wanted to pay for the drinks and didn't want to eat there anymore even though the food is amazing! That Nico bartender is there all the time and is unpleasant that we've seen numerous complaints on him but yet we still go bc of the food! Be prepared for the service from Nico and even sometimes not pleasant! The bartender Walter is always very friendly!!!!!!

Yelp
An authentic Tex-Mex cuisine, great food, great service and a good ambience, with great Mexican decorations. A good place for anyone to visit if you're in Houston, Texas.

Yelp
I hate to admit I live 10 minutes from here for the last 9 yrs and never visited. Lupe Tortilla is a Houston institution, but I'm not big in TexMex, so I haven't tried any. Fast forward, and I wanted fish tacos and my usual spot closed within 10 minutes of me placing my pick-up order. Thankfully, Lupe had an open kitchen at 9pm and fish tacos, score! The tacos were good, grilled with a side of cheesy rice. I was skeptical about the rice, but it was actually good as well and didn't have a lot of cheese, just enough to know it was there. The plate came with two generous size tacos, and I was definitely full, but not stuffed. Someone else picked up my order, but I can't advise on the Tuesday night vibe, but I plan to check it out more often.

Celise H.

Yelp
We are frequent visitors to Lupe Tortilla. This is our second and potentially last visit to this particular Lupe Tortilla on Stafford St in Houston. I am extremely disappointed with the "shrinkflation" at this specific location. I ordered the combo fajitas and the fajita plate was only slightly larger than the small rice dish. It was NOT worth $24.95! For reference, the Lupe Tortilla in Westlake does NOT have this "shirnkflation" problem...
google avatar

Diem A.

Yelp
The original Lupe Tortilla is always the best. They serve the original salsa unlike other lupes. The big green salad was huge and delicious. Service was great too.
google avatar

Sharonda D.

Yelp
THE DISAPPOINTMENTS! NO BLACK BEANS!!! Originally I held high hopes for the ORIGINAL LUPE TORTILLA, but like a glass mirror that has been thrown onto the ground, those high hopes were shattered into a million pieces after the poor service that was received and the mediocre food that was served. Admittedly, it wasn't the worst service, but it also wasn't anything to brag about in terms of great customer service. Upon our arrival, hubby and I quickly found out that this place is hopping on a Friday evening! Red flag! Cars were everywhere, not an available parking spot in sight. Not to mention, this establishment is in conjunction with several other establishments like a restaurant district. While my husband was trying to find a parking spot, I went into the restaurant to inquire about the wait time. As I approached the entrance there was a female hostess or manager cleaning up a spill on the floor. I stood watching her and waiting for her to greet me, but she never did. Therefore, I did her job for her and I greeted her with the nicest and most polite manners letting her know that it's my first time visiting and I would like to get a table for three. She pointed for me to go further inside the restaurant to the other hostesses that appeared to be hiding in a corner. I don't know, it was weird. Nevertheless, we ended up being added to the wait list for an estimated 20 minute wait time. Not bad at all, I thought to myself. Moreover, as we were waiting to receive a text message that our table was ready, my hubby found a great parking spot directly in front of the building. As he was waiting for the other patrons to move from the parking spot, another smaller car whipped around the corner and stole the spot from my husband while he was trying to back our truck into the spot. Crazy right? So if you dine here on a Friday night, please expect this type of behavior. Furthermore, we did not have to wait the full 20 minutes for our table which was great. Also we did not have to wait long for our server to come and greet us and take our drink orders. He introduced himself as Francisco and immediately began taking our drinks order. I ordered the frozen Lupe Grand Marnier Margarita with Tajín (it was very good), and my husband ordered a Modelo brew. We were served complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. We ordered queso and guacamole to accompany it. Hands down, their salsa is the best and freshest salsa I've ever tried at any restaurant! It was full of fresh chunks of tomatoes and delectable robust flavors! In addition to our drinks and complimentary appetizers, I ordered the Lupe salmon with a green salad (lettuce only). Hubby ordered the 1/2 mixed chicken and shrimp fajita entree which was accompanied by refried beans and Mexican rice. The disappointment was in the quality of the food. The flavors were definitely there but my salmon was overcooked leaving it dry and a bit tough to chew. However, the wine sauce and capers that were drizzled on top of the salmon were absolutely delicious. My husband's shrimp were also overcooked causing them to be dry and gummy. His chicken fajitas were a bit dry and uncomfortable to chew, and let alone swallow. The next big disappointment was when my husband ordered his entree, he asked to add black beans to his order. Guess what? They don't serve BLACK BEANS at the Original Lupe Tortilla!!! My husband almost hit the floor when our waiter informed him of this, lol. IT WAS HILARIOUS! Oh and don't let me forget to mention the fact that Francisco forgot to bring the butter sauce that's served with the fajitas. Another disappointment for my husband, lol. As far as customer service is concerned, it was just okay. Francisco was friendly but he was always MIA (missing in action). Whenever we could flag him down when we needed refills on our chips, our drinks, my husband's missing butter sauce, or whatever we needed, he seemed in a hurry each and every time. I believe this is because the restaurant was understaffed on a busy Friday night! As a result, the servers were working themselves overtime and running around like, "Chickens with their heads cut off!" It was just too much chaos for me. Overall, I did not enjoy this dining experience to the fullest. Our meal was not enjoyable as we had anticipated but we did enjoy the complimentary chips and salsa along with the queso and guacamole that we ordered on the side. The ambience was extremely noisy which is cool, but I wasn't in the mood for all of that noise. Maybe, hubby and I are spoiled by the Lupe in Tomball because it was our first one to dine at. They were welcoming and friendly. They showed us so much love and gave us samples because it was our first time and their food was the bomb dot com! It was the best Tex Mex I'd ever had! I swear it was! Anywho, I don't think we'll ever grace this establishment again. It really hurts the heart when you spend over $100 on a meal and you leave completely unsatisfied. Bummer!

Benjamin T.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the beef fajitas the last time I came here! They have amazing decorations and lighting, and it's not too hot inside in the middle of the summer. Servers and managers check in often and bring tortilla chips with pico de gallo and frijoles free of charge!

Yelp
Service and stupid happy hour only on Wednesdays what idiot came up with that idea. Bar doesn't open either until 4:30.

Yelp
Lupe has been around forever. With good reason. Perhaps the best fajitas in Houston, Ansolutley fresh chips and tortillas. Sparklingly fresh salsa. Reasonable prices, and solid portions. I hope they never change.

Yelp
Came in for a work lunch with a group of 11 on a Friday. We didn't have to wait very long to be seated. We only had to wait a little bit because they had to arrange the table/seats to accommodate our group. The service was excellent; we had one main server but other members of the staff helped out in refilling water glasses and in taking any additional orders (our main server took our initial orders) Food was delicious, as expected. I had personally ordered Steak Lupe and asked for it to be cooked medium rare and they didn't mess it up. More than half of the people in our group ordered this dish and none of them asked for medium rare so I was halfway expecting them to mess it up, but they didn't. If you have children, they have a little sand place outside where they can play. Definitely wouldn't mind coming back to this location again.

Yelp
Food and ambiance was great. Service was slow. Had to wait at bar b4!table was ready (NP). Bartender, however, was more interested in talking with his customer friends than serving other guests.

Yelp
Lupe Tortilla is absolutely unparalleled when it comes to the beef fajita experience. I have been eating at Lupe's for years. Decades. And they have my undying, unwavering support for eternity. But this specific location - which, if I am not wrong, is the OG location, right? Is perfection. Nestled away yet in the middle of it all, this Lupe's should not be slept on. True to form, the service is meh, it took a long time to come out, and the fajitas were knock-down drag-out A+ AMAZING. Always seared and charred to perfection, the beef is flavorful and seasoned so well. The shrimp are cooked perfectly and downright addictive. Their tortillas are unmatched and big-as-yo-face and from my experience, unrecreatable at home. And when I tell you, I put that seafood butter on errythang, I put that seafood butter on ERRYTHANG. The shrimp. The rice. The fajita. That spare tortilla left over at the end. Long story short, I hope you live close by because you will need to take a small coma of a nap when done. Worth every penny, even if you have to take a cash advance out to do it. And worth every second of the wait. If Lupe's were to ever close, best believe I would camp out in line for days to get one last taste. Lupe, whoever you are, please know that I love you - even if you only exist in the hearts and minds of Texans everywhere.

Yelp
Ya'all, which one of you knew they sell the margaritas to go by the gallon!!!? And why didn't you say anything!? Shame on you! The gallon was my best purchase so far in 2022. Not sure how much it cost, but it was like $60. Not a headache or hangover in site the next day! The food was good too, of course but this review is about those delicious margaritas! Get you a gallon and enjoy! P.s please don't drink and drive.

Yelp
Take is 50/50 they get it right. As far as the food quality it seems like something has changed in the last 12 months. The food quality is going down hill slowly. I feel like there has been a change in ownership potentially and private equity is involved. Still good but it's different than it used to be...

Yelp
More authentic than most. Great pinto beans, could eat them as a meal. We usually sit in the bar; it's more intimate. The service is always great, friendly & quick. Haven't ever had a bad meal there. This one at I 10 & 6 is our favorite one.

Yelp
Thursday 7pm (Christmas Holiday week) Parking is possible but further away from the door. I'm mentioning this because this was a day it was below 30° (in Houston!). That walk was bone chilling. If you want to feel tall, this is the place for you. The roof slants in different areas of the establishment. This is prevalent in the men's bathroom that's outside. I could have misheard the staff when they explained to me that the men's restroom is outside but the women have a restroom outside and inside. If that's true then the men's restroom only has two stalls. That ratio is disrespectful. The food was delicious, savory, and filling. I ordered the quesadillas and it came in 4. I walked away with a box for later (it was still delicious the next day). Service is helpful and plenty. Beans with chips and salsa is new to me but... What a great idea. The beans were scrumptious! One nuance is how packed the restaurant was. They deliberately put the tables close together and you can barely maneuver. The servers do a fantastic job of getting through the aisles but it's a tight fit. I will try them again because they have patio seating, a sandpit for kids, and I want to make sure it was because it was cold that we were packed so tightly.

Yelp
I feel like Lupe doesn't need a review because who hasn't been here, am I right? However, I'm reviewing bc I had really good service here recently and I thought they deserved some credit. As we all know chips and salsa come out with free beans to dip. Then you place order. So I usually get the beef fajitas (these are tenderized and they use a lime rub on em) and I'm pretty particular when I order but my waitress had no problem. She delivered promptly and without hesitation. I'm glad this location hired her. One quick note, they do have queso cheese without the peppers in it, you just have to ask. I'm leaving 5 stars, bc I'll always visit Lupe bc for the most part I know what I'm getting is gonna be what I expect.

Yelp
I still think Lupe's is one of the most over-rated Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. The drinks were a positive, particularly their "skinny" margaritas. The chips and salsa were fine. Warm chips and chunky salsa were above above average. But the breakdown is with the entrees. My wife's stuffed poblano was filled with lead. Seriously, shredded chicken with rice and cheese that was so thick you could use it to build a brick house. The chicken was over powered by rice stuck together with cheese. The tequila chicken was well received, but my pepper chicken fajitas was a large over-cooked chicken breast covered with a few spicy peppers. I will say the flour tortillas are as good as you can get. We had good service, but it can't compensate for average food coming from the kitchen. Lupes could be an easy 4 stars if they were just more consistent in the kitchen.
