Tex-Mex Chain Lupe Tortilla’s First DFW Location Opens In Irving | Eater Dallas

"This new Irving outpost at 3131 Regent Boulevard is a branch of a Houston Tex‑Mex chain featuring colorful interiors and a relaxed patio with Adirondack chairs by a fountain. The extensive 60-item menu spotlights sizzling platters of beef and chicken fajitas and classic Tex‑Mex staples—tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas and burritos—while also offering dedicated sections for seafood, carne asada, chicken and vegetarian plates; house-made flour and corn tortillas are available. Having officially joined the area's crowded queso scene, the restaurant rounds out meals with frozen margaritas and Mexican beer and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is the first of four planned North Texas locations, with an Addison site at 4535 Belt Line Road and additional outposts planned for Allen and Fort Worth." - Alaena Hostetter

Google
My 2 friends and I are on a girls trip here in Dallas...1 of them told me about this place. At first I was skeptical, but OMG IT WAS SOOO DELICIOUS!!! The margaritas were delicious, the queso, the table side guacamole and all of our food was phenomenal!!! Every time we pass through Dallas we will be stopping here!! Our waitress Haben was very nice and very attentive!! Absolutely would recommend this place to everyone!!

Phillip R.

Google
My group stopped in for a quick lunch after passing by several times and wow. It was and early lunch but service was exceptional. Extremely attentive. Polite. They offered a sample of the fajita beef as first timers the food was great and delicious. Even the lunch menu portions were huge. It was a pleasant surprise around so many mediocre overpriced casual sit down restaurants. The staff and manager came by often to check on us. And the tortillas are as good as someone’s abuelitas lol. Great food!

Google
I have zero complaints about this place. The hostess asked if it was our first time there. Since it was, we were given a complimentary steak to try. The foos was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was spectacular.

Google
This place does not let me down absolutely love it. Everything i have tried has been phenomenal but the steak fajitas and table side guac are a must. Great food, great atmosphere 👌 tell me what you think.

Google
My wife and I hit a LOT of TexMex restaurants. If we're in the mood for the fajita combo of beef, chicken & shrimp, there is NOTHING BETTER! Get both of the dipping sauces they offer, they are the best to drizzle over the meat!

Google
First time trying, Lupe tortilla in the DFW area, and it did not disappoint. I had tried it in Houston several times. Food was good and portions are big. Chips and salsa are also very good , so overall it was a good experience. Prices are average parent $15-$20 per plate) and their fajitas are a bit more expensive but worth it. Our server was a trainer and he was awesome.

Jeffrey N.

Google
Excellent all around!!! Excellent happy hour and the margaritas and food were fantastic. I have no complaints about my experience here. The salsas were to die for. The service was top notch. Everything was clean. I highly recommend this place! Update 3.20: Came back for a second time and couple weeks later and it was insanely good. The charro bean salsa stuff is the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. Outstanding food. Outstanding drinks. Outstanding service at the bar. Moving to Dallas 3 weeks ago, this will be my go to for mexican cuisine.

Google
Great food with an amazing atmosphere. The tortilla soup is the best I’ve ever had. The service was amazing.

Yelp
Fire fajitas on deck! Sides are great, flour tortillas are fresh and salsa on point. Service is always great, bring clients here often. Feels like a traditional tex-mex, fun decor and vibes. Give this place a chance!
google avatar

Ivette G.

Yelp
My favorite Tex Mex restaurant Love their fajitas . Their queso flameado is very traditional Just like the one I ate in Mexico
google avatar

Kimberly N.

Yelp
Food was awful and way overpriced for what we got! $48 for a pound of fajitas with no veggies!! The quesoflamedo was a HARD lump of cheese for $11 couldn't even dip or scoop!! The pablano ranch was so salty gross!! I will never go here awful food!!! Way overpriced for what we got!
google avatar

Yelp
They have complimentary chips and salsa once you are seated. The chips were fresh and the salsa was typical for a Mexican place. I got the spinach and artichoke enchiladas ($19) and it came out in about 20 minutes. Enchiladas were alright, loaded with sauce but not much spinach and artichoke filling. The rice and beans were meh. Staff were nice. Overall for a chain restaurant it was alright, nothing fancy but it got the job done. Food(50%): 6.3 Staff/service(25%): 6.5 Value(25%): 6.0 Overall: 6.3/10

Bryson C.

Yelp
With the hundreds of tex mex restaurants in dfw this is by far the best. Food is fresh, tastey and made to order. Prices are also good. I could eat their salsa by itself!

Yelp
The service was so well! We got sat really fast. He and the food was amazing. The restaurant was a very pretty on the inside and nicely decorated. We loved sitting on the patio and will definitely come again.

Yelp
Family of 12 went to eat out for dinner. Food was good, service was amazing, and great lively atmosphere. We walked in no reservations and was seated quickly. Our waitress was really nice for our big table. We got our food pretty fast and it was really good. Nothing to complain about but I can say the prices were a bit pricey.

Yelp
We felt it had been a while since we had Mexican cuisine, so we pulled on over on our way home. I have never been given beans with chips and salsa but I am not complaining. The beans were so good, I almost ordered a side but contained myself on that one. Spicy Red Enchiladas (3) Roasted chicken, corn tortillas, Jack cheese, spicy red sauce, pico de gallo, sour cream. 17.95 ----Everything was good except the sauce they used to cover the enchiladas. It turned out to be the salsa they served with the chips and we were not a fan. I am super picky over my rice and beans and really enjoyed them here. Tortilla Soup Grilled chicken, tortilla strips, corn, tomatoes, cilantro, Jack cheese, poblano peppers & sliced avocado. 15.95 --- I am a sucker for soup and one of my favorites is Tortillas Soup, super happy with my order and they put an ample amount cheese! My margarita flight was 19.99 --- I could not drink any of my margaritas they were overly sweet and syrupy the flavors did not mesh with the alcohol, but my theory is this had to be bottom shelf tequila.

Yelp
Drinks were great! Food is a little on the expensive side. I ordered seafood as I don't eat land animals. They actually had several selections. Would go Back.

Yelp
Oh this place hits! We love the service! On the weekends we come out and eat on the patio! Dogs are welcome! Their pancakes are the best thing to me! The presentation is everything! I love it! The staff here is super friendly and they actually remember us each week! A few of us come here after our runs on the weekend! I totally love this place!

Yelp
Title: A Long-Time Customer is Deeply Disappointed: Where Did the Value Go? I'm writing this review as a long-time patron of Lupe Tortilla, which makes this experience all the more difficult to share. For years, this was my absolute go-to spot for consistently great food, and I've always considered it a benchmark for quality Tex-Mex. Unfortunately, my latest visit--where I proudly introduced the restaurant to a first-time friend--left me feeling genuinely embarrassed and deeply disappointed in the direction the pricing has taken. The centerpiece of our meal was, as always, the Beef Fajitas for Two. While the quality of the beef remains high (still the garlic/lime/buttery tender beef I remember), the portion-to-price ratio has frankly become untenable. We were met with significant sticker shock upon receiving the bill ($63). What was once a fantastic splurge is now simply exorbitant, and it made the entire meal feel less like a treat and more like an over-budget expense. It was impossible not to compare the current cost to the diminished value. The second major point of frustration came with the beverages. We ordered the Happy Hour Reposado Margaritas, expecting a reasonable deal to accompany the food. The cost of these margaritas, even with the supposed "happy hour" pricing, was shockingly high. When the Reposado margaritas are priced to feel like a premium cocktail special, the entire concept of a "happy hour" falls apart ($22). Bringing a friend here for their first time, only to experience this obvious and drastic dip in value, was frustrating. I wanted to showcase the Lupe I knew and loved, but instead, I had to apologize for the final bill. I sincerely hope management re-evaluates their pricing model, particularly on staples like the beef fajitas and the "happy hour" drinks. Until a better balance is struck, my long run as a loyal customer is sadly on pause.

Yelp
We had passed this Mexican restaurant SO many times and never stopped in. Finally, for my birthday we decided we would give it a try. We stopped in on a Saturday night and the wait was pretty long- almost an hour- despite not many people waiting around and some tables being empty. We just sucked it up and waited. Once seated, they were pretty quick! We started with the queso- pretty standard, nothing special. I really liked their "spicy" salsa and asked for some extra. The beans that came out with the salsa are not my jam. My husband wasn't even into them. I got the barbacoa tacos, not bad. I gobbled them up since I was starving. I also got double rice instead of some beans. My husband got the steak and shrimp fajitas and said the steak ones are some of his favorites! We were so stuffed there was no room for dessert. We hope to come back again soon!

Yelp
GREAT FOOD, SERVICE! Highly recommend hatch chicken! Emmely was an awesome server! Quick and friendly service and best tortillas ever

Yelp
Good food and good service. I like this location better than Addison. Not the same as Houston or Austin, but still good. I love the Grandioso fajitas! The plate size tortillas are everything!

Yelp
We have out-of-town guests who were craving TexMex, so decided to do brunch at our neighborhood Lupe Tortilla! We were lucky to get a table, the the place was packed! I like the warm, comfy decor and how spacious it is for large grops. We loved their skinny margaritas with light and refreshing fresh lime flavor. Everyone loved the food too ... So many options with the lunch and brunch menu offerings! The pecan praline pancakes were yumm... huge, almost a foot in diameter, served rolled up with pecans and syrup. The salad was so fresh and flavorful with roasted pepper. Service was attentive despite of how crowded it was. Always a reliably great experience!

Yelp
We visited Lupe's after being invited by my parents. The atmosphere was energetic with rustic Mexican-style decor. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Before the food arrived, we were served chips, salsa, and boracho beans, which were a nice touch. The menu is large, though the prices were higher than expected. That said, the portions were generous, and we're all taking home leftovers. The beef fajitas were delicious--tender meat with all the fixings and fantastic large flour tortillas. The Tex Mex enchiladas and Sr. Gaffigan enchiladas were good, but they had a bit too much cheese for our taste. And it may sound silly, but their unsweet iced tea was strong and really tasty. Overall, we enjoyed our meal.

Yelp
Came here with a group of coworkers for lunch and service was decent for the party size we had. It wasn't too crowded and there was music playing. They kept the chips and salsa coming too which was nice. Now for the food! Chicken fajitas: 7/10 chicken was moist and seasoned okay. Green enchiladas: 8/10 really good and flavorful. Beef fajitas: 8/10 tortillas were the star but the steak was a little salty for one person who ordered it. I also ordered this and the steak was seasoned nicely to me and I enjoyed the jalapeños. Chicken quesadilla: 8/10 these were huge! Forgot to get a pic but the person who ordered this enjoyed the meal. Chicken flautas: 8/10 person enjoyed this dish. Nothing bad to say about it.

Yelp
This restaurant is not vegetarian friendly!! They have lard in their flour tortillas and chicken broth in their rice. This made it very difficult to find something to eat here. The fajita was good with corn tortilla, I just have a preference for flour so I was left unsatisfied. Food is extremely spice! Salsa is also very spicy! Service was good. However we ordered the fajita and he automatically assumed we were ordering the 1 lb fajita which turned out to be 35. It would have been better if he asked us which one we wanted because they didn't give those options on the menu. Ambiance was pretty nice. Great place for a family dinner and to catch up with friends!

Yelp
Food is amazing, we had the most wonderful server her name was La Toya. I live in California but this beats anything there ! If you ever have a chance stop in and ask for La Toya . Well worth the price . THANKS SO MUCH . AAAplus !!!

Yelp
Food was great me and my kids stopped in for our first visit. Sat in Claudio's section on the heated patio on a Monday afternoon. Ambience was chill not too crazy we were able to order of the lunch menu (its till 4) They asked it was our first first time in and the manager came and introduced his self and offered us a little fajita taco sample... it was amazing it was at this point I questioned what I had already ordered. lol we will definitely be back soon!!
google avatar

Raymond W.

Yelp
We went for lunch on a Monday and everything was excellent. We were asked if it was our first visit, which it was, and we were given a sample of the beef fajita. It was so good I had to order them. We also ordered the small order of sizzling ribs and they were excellent as well. Thought I'm not big on Tex-Mex food, I'll certainly return.
google avatar

Nick V.

Yelp
I personally think Lupe tastes the best, if not one of the best, concerning Tex Mex restaurants in the area. Fajitas have always been excellent. Tortillas are some of my favorites. I did have steak and enchiladas once and the enchiladas were a bit burnt. Still good. Drinks are good as well. Service has been on point on the two separate occasions to this location. Ambiance is typical Tex Mex. It's not as hip as Mexican Sugar but I'm all about the food, which I think is better here. I think it can get a bit pricey for what it is however.
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
I would rate this place 3.5 stars, but as always, I round up. I've eaten here a couple of times now, and it is a solid option for the area. The food is always good, hot, and fresh (as are the chips), and seating is plentiful. Lupe is let down by how slow the service is, and the wait staff in general seem to wish they were anywhere else but at work. I do enjoy the portion sizes, as I often have food to take home for later, which is one of my favorite things! The decor is also fun and lively, with bright colors and patterns. I would come here again, I just have to know that the meal will not be quick so my expectations are set accordingly.

Yelp
This was our 2nd visit to Lupe Tortilla - maybe it was the day, the time, the management, who knows? Our first visit would have been a 5 star had I stopped to write it, but we were in such a hurry to come back and bring more friends and there in lies the rub.... We are not from Dallas, just happened to be here 2 wks apart in Sept. 24. Once we met some Dallas friends for dinner, they introduced us to the place. We were brought the "never been here before" welcome gift of a sample of the kitchen's best, absolutely delicious beef and homemade tortillas. On to the Maximo platter, visit from the manager and all. This time was a bit of a cluster. We were a party of 8, told to wait for 20 it was more like 40mins. Then once sat at a nice large table, only half of us got ice water. I told the waiter we had "never been here before" people with us, he quickly told the supervisor and he then called it into the kitchen. The welcome gift never materialized. Big Disappointment to those we had promised these delicacies to. The waiter appeared to be the only one on our side of the restaurant so he didn't return to take our order for another 40 mins, but the chip runners never stopped appearing to refill our chips but no more salsa and beans even once requested. Once our order was finally placed we waited another 30+mins for the food, which was very good, well seasoned but our "taste" for it had vanished by then. Not so sure we will back and pretty sure they won't either. Too bad, had a lot of promise.
google avatar

Sheila L.

Yelp
Our group had dinner here and we were all really pleased! The service was top notch! One server single handedly managed and kept up well with our large group of around 20 people. The food was excellent! The queso was a favorite! The fajitas were perfectly cooked! The meat had such great flavor! We'd return on our own without our group!

Yelp
We went here for my birthday. Great food. The closest good Mexican restaurant to California Mexican restos. We ordered the Burrito, Salmon tacos and beef enchiladas. If you're really hungry order this burrito coz the serving is quite generous; same with the enchiladas, they didn't hold back in serving. The taco I've opted for the salmo which is $3 up charge but was worth it. The picture shows the puffy shell; it's a soft shell and they make it fresh there. They also gave us their handmade hot soft corn tortillas which is paired very well with the table side quest; the hot corn tortillas was superb . The service was fast and our servers were attentive and responsive. The ambience could be loud because it is always packed but we came just in time before it got really packed and we were seated in the corner against the wall so we're not in the middle of the crowd. This is our 2nd time here and we will definitely go back when we have friends to entertain.

Adela R.

Yelp
The food was amazing.good music and good ambiance the place is very clean even the restrooms and the service was excellent the girl gave us a lot of recommendations thank you latoya for your service

Yelp
In response to the reply from Lupe Tortilla, it's really strange. I sold credit card processing for years, and I'm a consumer that travels all over the country. In my 40 years of being an actual consumer, I've never had a receipt require the security code on the back of my cards. It wasn't until relatively recently that "chip readers" were developed and became widely used, but there is absolutely no reason that your equipment wouldn't read a chipped credit or worse, debit card. As a consumer yourself, I beg you to tell me about other businesses that document the security code. As you can see, and I referred to it, some of your customers experienced credit card fraud after dining with your location. It's time for all restaurants and retailers to bring a hand held devise to the table, it really lowers your liability. Our first time visiting Lupe Tortilla, it was pretty good, I got the Tex Mex combo on the lunch menu and already forgot the name, it had a tamale, cheese enchilada and crispy taco, and the hubs got chicken enchiladas. The salsa is a little spicier than we prefer and his was covered in it. We are Texan and have eaten tons of Texas Mex so we were surprised that the menu was so difficult to follow lol. Just takes a few extra moments since there are nonsensical names for the dishes, I guess it's corporate chain speak for unique lol. We will try again, we were asked if it was our first time there by the hostess, when we said yes, she just walked away. About 15-30 minutes later a manager in chef attire showed up with two samples of the beef fajitas, it was great, wish he'd have made it by before ordering LMBO. Poor guy, it was so cold outside, and we were close to the doors, I was freezing, and so were those samples. Definitely going to try the fajitas next time. As another commenter mentioned, and I feel it's worth addressing, the server is required to write down the security code on the checkout receipt. I scrawled "WHY" across the check, and also that they need to visit Yelp. I believe I will do some research into this practice as I formerly sold credit card processing and unless some recent changes have gone into play, I am fairly certain it's not common practice. I saw that a lot of money was stolen in that review.

Yelp
Not sure what the hype is? The tortillas are below average. They do offer a sample of their steak tacos which is what they are known for for. Nice touch!

Casaundra G.

Yelp
SoCal native approved TexMex. Really good. Real cheese, cold salsa and great margaritas. Everything was delicious and I would recommend to a friend!

Yelp
Had a great brunch with the work wife! I got Carnita Benedict with a Mexican coffee. We loved the ambience, and we enjoyed ourselves. Can't wait to bring my husband here next time! For more food pics, check out www.Instagram.com/the.pikachew

Yelp
The food, the music, all the vibes! I highly recommend that you come for their lunch menu and their steak- Y U M! Friendly service and we didn't have much of a wait. You can also join their waitlist on their website.

Yelp
My parents have been raving about this place so finally got to check it out when I came to visit Chips and salsa - dynamite. This is how I judge a tex Mex spot if their chips and salsa hit the spot we are looking good. They also offer beans with chips which are a great addition. Tried a spicy crunch chicken taco. They call them Puffy tacos which I've never had. The tortilla was kind of falling apart so I prefer crunchy taco shells but the overall flavor combo was great and definitely spicy (which I enjoyed) We also got table side guac which is never a bad decision. I noticed at the bar they were making various drinks and some had lights that were flashing making it a fun experience for those that drink.

Ashley W.

Yelp
We came in as a party of 7 and there were plenty of tables set up for large groups! Lots of seating in general which made it easier to talk to each other since people were generally more spread out. Half of our party was late but our server was really accommodating and he was constantly refilled the chips and water. We all got our food quickly after ordering and it was really good! They have a brunch menu that's well-priced, though skimming their regular menu it does seem to be more expensive than I would expect compared to other Tex-mex restaurants. We also got our birthday boy a big hat, a song sung to him, and a flan for the table to share.
google avatar

Chad W.

Yelp
Place to go for steak fajitas! The rest of their meals are average Mexican food in my opinion.
google avatar

Ricky D.

Yelp
This is one of my favorites. Everything was hot and delicious. The service was amazing and fast even though the place was crowded. You won't regret this place if you love texmex. Don't forget to pick up a couple bottles of their hot sauce. It's excellent.
google avatar

Chelsea R.

Yelp
I have tried this place so many times in hopes that I will find something that I truly enjoy. But I just am underwhelmed every time. The food is just always bland. Chips are hot and fresh and thin and crispy. So, that is a plus!! It's hard for some reason to find solid chips and salsa...you know, the legit kind Mexican places pride themselves on (IYKYK) and I will say they do a good job of that here. Love the bean dip however this last time they put a ton of jalapenos and etc which were not there before. Was absolutely not a fan. If you like jalapeños chopped up everywhere and that bite that will set your mouth a blaze immediately, then go for it. Queso is just cheese wiz-ish to me. I sincerely want to like this place but it is lacking flavor and menu needs a makeover. Great service however and beautiful place in general but it is a just okay place for me.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The service was a little slow however the hostess was kind and courteous. Large portions and the price is very reasonable. Come check them out

Yelp
The location is clean and spacious. :) The menu really enticed me before I came in and i had a hard time choosing my meal. But I chose the puffy tacos and man...they were AMAZING. :) not like puffy tacos I had gotten at other restaurants, but not a bad thing! Oh and the guac was so good :) My friends don't like guac so i was all happy that i got it all for myself :D The restaurant is a little noisy but that's not anything they can really do considering the atmosphere of the restaurant. Just heads up for those thinking it's going to be a quiet intimate place :)
google avatar

Cliff O.

Yelp
Kinda disappointed in this place. The booths are in somewhat disrepair. Also, the food seems to have gone from good to average. This location nerds to pick it up.
google avatar

Yolanda H.

Yelp
The beef fajitas are so good and savory. The corn tortillas are hearty. I have a good experience every time I visit Lupe.
google avatar

Keshia D.

Yelp
Where do I start so the service was blah? I understand our waitress is new, but to get something that's half of avocado and lump crab should not have taken 36 minutes to come out to where I had to ask for it to go and then as you could see what I ordered versus what I got, just really not happy but it is what it is simple light but it's like they just threw my food in a box and said here dog!!!! Won't be coming back
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
Why would you not want to go to a place that has a long wait?!? That means it's really good! All these low votes for great food, but long waits... Lupe Tortilla is a Texas chain that originated in Houston, Tx and has made its way up to the Metro Plex. They are known for there amazing fajitas and amazing fajitas is what I got. They definitely didn't disappoint. I would highly recommend the steak, but doing the combination is a great way to try two different types of meat. Make sure you come during Happy Hour (3:30-6:30), 24 oz Drafts for $5.50 and much more. Don't forget to try the complementary chips, salsa, and beans. Make sure you don't get to full on them. Definitely need to save room for dinner!
google avatar

Laurie F.

Yelp
We came here with some friends for dinner and it was really good. I had a house margarita to drink and the fish tacos to eat. The tacos were two huge hard tacos with lots of fish and toppings it also came with a side of rice and beans. It was a huge and delicious meal, I know the rest of the party really enjoyed their meals also and I'd I was in the area I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
There was not a wait for our party upon arrival. We had around 11 people in our party. Chips and salsa were at the table and we munched on them for a few minutes before our drink orders were placed. It took a few minutes for us to place our food orders. We were able to order off of the brunch menu. The options were nice. We ordered omelets, chilaquiles, waffles, bacon, and potatoes. Our food took about 20-30 minutes to arrive after we placed our orders. The food was fresh and tasty. We enjoyed our orders and a few of us took carryout boxes. Although our server forgot a few drinks orders in the beginning, the service was good overall. I would visit the location again.

Tyrone A.

Yelp
Amazing customer service was instantly greeted and sat down. I was given chips with beans and salsa immediately. It was my first time at the restaurant and they made sure I had an amazing experience. They provided samples for the food and I was thankful for that. Very welcoming and accepting place. The staff is nice.

Yelp
Service was Great and Food was AWESOME! We ordered the TRIO Fajitas and they did not disappoint. I Loved how Ginormous the fresh Flour Tortillas were!!!! They were bigger than my boyfriends head! NO, but seriously, they were Big, Fresh, Hot and Super Thin. I could put plenty of my steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas inside 1 flour tortilla with cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream & fresh homemade salsa and still have room to fold in each side and roll it up into a burrito! YES I ordered a Frozen Margarita & Sangria Swirl and it was some very fresh Sangria ~ strong too.... In a good way! Wish their chips were a bit thicker, so they didn't break off when scooping up their Fabulous Queso Cheese and their Fresh Salsa. I'll Be Back - that's for Certain!
