The BF and I dined at Lure Fishbar to cap off a week-long stay at the Loew's South Beach. The Loew's concierge was nice enough to make us a reservation but they also accept OpenTable reservations if you prefer.
Lure is located in the St. Mortiz tower on Collins Ave, located just off the lobby. We dined on a Thursday night and were greeted by live jazz music as soon as we opened the doors. The restaurant is lovely with semi-private upholstered booths ringing the walls, and an upscale nautical motif. The tables were lit by small tea candles.
Our server, Dennis, was oh-so-friendly. He obviously likes his job and works well with his team because they were a well-oiled machine, making sure we had everything we needed and were happy the whole time. (Heads up, though, like with many other SoBe establishments, there is an automatic 18% service charge added into your bill.)
I knew there would be lots of seafood offerings but was surprised at the extensive menu. The entire left side of the menu is essentially raw bar offerings - oysters, clams, sushi, ceviche, etc. They also offer seafood towers priced from $48 to $165, depending on how many add-ons you choose. The right side of the menu is the cooked side, for lack of a better phrase. This is where all the hot apps and entrees are. Both menus are quite lengthy! As long as you and your dining companions like seafood you will be able to find something for everyone here.
We split the following:
- JEWELS OF THE SEA: King Crab Legs (priced at Market Price per 1/2 lbs). We paid a whopping $41 for a 1/2 lb on our visit - but they were worth every dollar. The legs were cut down the middle and basted with a homemade lemon-herb butter while being grilled. Not only was the flavor perfect, but serving them cut for us made this easy and not too messy to eat on our nice date.
- APPETIZERS: CRISPY RICE CAKES ($18; four large rectangles of crispy rice topped with a spicy tuna tartare, crispy seaweed strips, and wasabli aioli). Excellent, would absolutely order again!
- SEAFOOD ENTRÉES: GRILLED WHOLE DAURADE ($39; served with grilled lemon, watercress and agrodolce). Very fresh-tasting, beautifully served, and a HUGE portion.
- MARKET SIDES: LT's Fried Rice ($10): added to the daurade on Dennis' suggestion to bulk up the meal for my hungry BF. Very tasty!
I also had the off-menu nightly special, a snapper filet served over a bed of beets, sauteed chard and spinach, pistachios, and a goat cheese puree. It was priced at $39 and (other than the crab legs) the best thing we ordered by far!
We truly enjoyed our meal, and it was made even better by the relaxing jazz music and excellent service. Thanks Lure - we will be back next time we're in town!
