Where to Find the Best Tres Leches Cake in Houston | Eater Houston

"Located in the heart of Downtown Houston at the Underground Hall and at the Conservatory in the Galleria area, this bakery and dessert shop is a top go-to for both classic and inventive slices of tres leches. Luv’em offers nine different varieties of the Latin specialty ranging from its piña colada tres leches to white chocolate, caramel, coffee, red velvet, and even Reese’s varieties. Its soft cake base is prepared traditionally — soaked in three different kinds of milk and served with a multitude of different toppings and accouterments. Consider creating your own dream tres leches by picking your favorite cake flavors and toppings, and be sure to grab a slice of key lime pie — one of the most popular desserts on the menu." - Lane Gillespie

Google
insanely good tres leches cake! Fairly priced for 8.50. You MUST get the caramel flavor with the Cinnamon Toast Crunch topping. So moist and delicious

Google
The fried bread pudding was too sweet although flavorful. It’s nice that it was freshly fried but a bit oily.

I hate to write a review cause I really liked these cakes before this experience. I just think it’s important for everyone to know what they may be getting or should check for. Before buying your cake please check the freshness of it first. I called and explained to the manager that the cake I received tasted off as if it were spoiled and smelled a bit weird. I of course didn’t try the cake until I was home but I also explained I had only had taken a bite and could bring back the cakes as evidence in exchange for possibly a new fresh cake or my money back . The manger was not understanding at all and did nothing to try to fix the situation. I just feel like when it comes to freshness of a product that people consume it should be taken seriously. If you are going to eat here please check the freshness of your cake before leaving to avoid any issues you may have. They DO NOT care.

Google
I got the vanilla tres leches cake with a strawberry crunch topping. It was okay. Definitely not the best that I’ve had. If I’m in the area again, I’ll consider trying one of their other flavors. One slice was $8.50.

Google
I will admit, at first it was a little dry, but it worked out well because there’s enough milk at the bottom to sop up with the dry parts of the cake. It makes the 3 Leches Cake not too soggy. It was perfect. In my opinion, the best one pants down was the Fruity Pebbles Tres Leches cake (or maybe it was called Birthday Cake? Either way it had fruity pebbles on top and it was fabulous!)

Google
Came here for the first time recently after being persuaded by the reviews. Greta options for a variety of different cakes. We ordered three to try on our first going. Carrot, white chocolate and cheese cake. All three were very good, I’m a sucker for a tres leches cake but the carrot cake was to die for. The cheesecake was also tasty however I’m not super into cheesecake to begin with. Will definitely come back to try others. Cakes seem to all be $7.50 but the slices are enough to share with two to three people if you’re being reasonable. The bottom floor of this location has a variety of other different restaurants and you can sit were you please and can sit and eat and talk while talking with family or friends. Will definitely be back. Parking can be tight there is a big spot in the front but it’s $12 bucks so there’s that aspect to the location as well.

Google
I was in the mood for something sweet. This is my first time having Leche and it was delicious! I got the Reese' one and my friend got the fruity pebbles. Very much worth it. Its easy access to get some after eating on your way out or quick pop in as you walk downtown.

Google
Surprisingly good dessert for a fair price. It’s located right in the underground and is easy to pass by. There was only one girl running it, so from a service perspective don’t expect much. However, I had the Samoa (caramel delight) tres leches and it was delicious. Overall, pretty good, though not something I would get everyday (for health and price reasons)!

Yelp
I'm not a tres leches lover but OH MY LORDTTT!!! This place has the best tres leches! It made me crave tres leches any moment I have some coins to come and get some! They have a bunch of variety of flavors like fruity pebbles, Nutella, chocolate, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, piña colada, you name it!!! The employees will always greet you with a smile and give you your cake QUICK! It's right at the entrance of the underground so you literally can't miss it!

Yelp
Just ok. For an 8$ carrot cake I expected more. Too sugary and not enough carrot or nut. Also. See pic. If you sell a piece of premium cake at least put it in a proper container to present well. Don't smash it into a box and mush to cake up. Do better. Or just take cake off the menu and stick to the Leches.

Yelp
After dinner, my friend and I had a random sweet craving. Thankfully Luv'em Leches was right around the corner. Service was quick and sweet, and they have plenty options to try. I got the Nutella tres leches which was delightful, not overly sweet and the right amount of moist. This is a grab n go spot, but the area is clean and the serve was extremely pleasant. Looking forward to returning whenever I'm in the area

Yelp
I got the strawberry tres leches AND IT WAS SO GOOD. It's drenched and super moist. The topping is similar to strawberry crunch icecream bits. Super yummy. Register girl was nice as well EDIT: visited again before I leave Houston and got red velvet. Enjoyed this one more bc it was less sweet!

Yelp
Very rude staff because we showed up 15 min before closing. She did get us but spun the order screen around and said hurry up and order she needed to leave. Maybe change your hours so you close at 830 if you "have" to be gone at 9 because the building requires it as we were told. We ordered 4 to take to our hotel to try.. the only one that was good was the pina colada. The chocolate was like soggy chocolate pebble cereal, the carrot cake was dryer than the desert in summer and the key lime tasted more like lemon meringue pie but was also dry like the carrot cake. Do yourself a favor and go early if you want to try it. But we won't be back.

Yelp
This place is located at the top of the underground dining hall on Prairie street downtown. Simply put, the cake is good, the service is good, but the price point is so completely outrageous, it's just like - are you kidding me? $8.50 for one piece of cake, and while the flavor is delicious, the cake is disappointingly dry, especially for a tres leches. If you're really craving the flavor and have money to burn, then sure, go for it. But it's really hard to say I'd recommend spending $8.50 for one piece of dry cake. One star off for the outlandish pricing, and one star off for the dry tres leches.

Cassaundra T.

Yelp
The tree leches was delicious! I brought fruity , vanilla and a fried banana pudding donut. Absolutely delicious. Very flavorful!
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
This place is disgusting. I ordered a tres leches cake on 3/25 and upon receiving the cake the bottom of the box was dated 3/18. They are delivering a cake that has milk, eggs and other ingredients that should not hold up for A WEEK. Stay away from this place. Business owners have zero shame.
google avatar

Jewls J.

Yelp
I had the strawberry tres leches and it was delicious! This place is located in Underground Hall which was confusing at first, being from out of town. The service was great.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Best tres leches in town! Definitely worth a trip to downtown. We've tried different flavors and each one is better than the other

Amber M.

Yelp
The caramel was amazzzzingg. The red velvet left me wanting more... maybe a different topping for that one?

Shyla C.

Yelp
The cake was sooooooo good! I had the lemon tres leche cake and it was so moist. Best tres leches cake I've had !
google avatar

Tannu S.

Yelp
The first shop you will encounter while going down to the underground food court. Delicious !! Awesome service and cool ambiance. Run downstairs to enjoy it or pick one while your way out to eat later.
google avatar

Amanda E.

Yelp
So good! The slices were big and the prices were fair ($7.50 each). All the flavors looked delicious, so I'll def go back to try some more.

Yelp
Luv'em, and leave em with a tip. It's the right thing to do. Okay so here's the first thing. These aren't actually Mexican desserts according to my better half... they're more a sort of fusion aimed at the modern Young American hipster. Which is fine but let's call it like it is. That doesn't lose a star though. It's not even because of the fact that two out of three times they haven't had Barbie's fave - Nutella. Or that the key lime didn't taste like key lime when in fact lime is Barbi's fave taste. And the fact that it seems a little saturated with sweetness, yes sometimes we can put up with that. Nah, none of that - honestly, just the price. Paying between $7 and $10 for a slice of cake, especially when you want to try two or three different things and when they're not even that big, is definitely enough reason all things considered for them to get 4 instead of 5 stars. But if they start having Nutella consistently and they make a real lime type lime pie and if people start recognizing that this is not the best Tres Leches in Houston (cuz it's not actually Tres Leches by my Bae's Mexican standards) and it does a disservice to all the hidden TL gems in HTX, then all things considered I will definitely raise them to five stars. And we will be back I'm sure, because Barbi is into it.

Yelp
Walked by and couldn't stop thinking of the sweets here so had to loop back to try them. I was instantly HOOKED. We had to go back 3 days in a row. Love that y'all rotate different flavors, made it full seeing what was available each day!
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Wanted dessert and this place stays open late. We're not big fans of tres leches cakes so we opted for the chocolate mousse and carrot cake. Both were moist and decadent. This is a pick up at the counter kind of place however, you can go downstairs underground and they have tables to sit at along with a food court of various eateries.
google avatar

Adrienne T.

Yelp
Right inside underground hall, the place is small and you need to go downstairs to sit and eat. We were helped by the preparer with the flavor profiles and details on what was available and her service was great! She was very nice and made sure to prepare each one well. She even looked for a center piece for my friends order. My friend ordered the strawberry while I ordered the caramel. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top did add nicely to the flavor profile. I was apprehensive that the cake wouldn't be "wet" enough, but it was flavorful, moist, and just what I wanted for a dessert. Would return again!
google avatar

Natasha L.

Yelp
Located inside a dinning hall this is the first place to grab food when you enter. The tres leches was pretty basic. What I had ordered, the guy behind the counter did not give me. That was a little disappointing. Honestly I rather grab a slice from HEB. I know that's harsh but like I mentioned, it was basic. Not worth the drive.
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Located at the entrance of the Underground food hall. They have so many different cakes flavors to choose from. Got the mocha and strawberry cakes. Each cake piece was a large square and $7.50 each. Both cakes were very moist and soaked in milk. The flavors were subtle and not overbearing. The cakes could have been a little fresher but overall still good, the icing on the top was a lighter thin layer too.
google avatar

Krista M.

Yelp
Cake was good, lots of different options, i got a Samoas and it was a bit too much for me. If you like super sweet this place is for you! I prefer my plain old tres leches rather than the glammed up ones
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Delicious tres leches! We tried this spot for the first time a few months ago and had a great experience. There were so many creative flavor options, and we decided to share the pina colada slice. It was super sweet & creamy! I really appreciated the amount of milk (not swimming in milk but not dry at all). Our only complaint was the price - this is one of the most expensive tres leches I've had, but with how good it was I can't give less than 5 stars. Luv'em Leches is located by the entrance/exit to the Underground Hall, perfect for grabbing dessert after dinner. We will be back to try more flavors soon!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with tres leches. We got the red velvet and the original vanilla! So goood! No complaints! It was moist, sweet, and creamy! Mmmmmmm yummy in my tummy
google avatar

Saira K.

Yelp
This is the best tres leches in Houston. Period. My #1 spot used to be Churrasco's, but this place beats it by miles. It is located just inside the doors of the entrance to the Underground Cafe. Service was great, the owner was very friendly. She has been at this location for 2 years, but has been in the business for a while. They have so many flavors of tres leches. We were originally leaning towards the strawberry one, but when I asked for her recommendation she suggested the white chocolate. I am so glad I went with it bc OMG it did not disappoint. Rich flavors, plenty of sauce, and a huge portion size. When I asked how business has been, she said they took a pretty big hit with COVID. Sad because this is an amazing shop.

Sharae S.

Yelp
The cake was just meh. It lacked flavor and was kind of dry; it was definitely not worth price. I took one bite and left the rest. My guest did the same with their slice. I love small businesses and wish them the best.
google avatar

Blank B.

Yelp
A small little stop with lots of flavors! My husband and I tried the white chocolate with raspberry topping and the Samoa. Both delicious! Both flavorful and not dry. Not sure why the other reviews were saying the cake was dry we had a different experience. We would definitely go back.
google avatar

Enna J.

Yelp
This is a Tres Leches shop inside the Underground Food Hall downtown. It's a small counter a soon as you walk in. They have several flavors of tres Leches as well as a few other dessert options. Very decadent. Family owned and operated.
google avatar

Hayden S.

Yelp
If you're a true tres leche lover then you know that a sign of good tres leche is when there's lots of extra milk - Luv'em Leches consistently accomplishes this! I've tried a few different flavors and each one has been delicious. They have some pretty interesting flavors I've never heard of before, but also have original if you're more traditional. 10/10 would recommend!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Still great and location is as soon as you walk into the Underground Hall. Small location many of variety to choses from and you can head downstairs to enjoy your desert or take home. Service is great and extremely helpful.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
We stopped in for dessert on the way out of the Underground Hall. The 5 of us got the chocolate tres leches cake and the fried donut bread pudding to share. I was really disappointed that the menu wasn't updated and that they didn't have the Nutella tres leches. The tres leches was pretty good, but it was very rich. I was very happy that 5 of us shared it. The fried donut bread pudding was good, after it cooled down. It was fried on the spot, and was served so hot that we had to wait a while to eat it. The set up was very cute though and the slogan (we keep it moist) had me cracking up.

Adre L.

Yelp
So good. Samoa cake: amazing. The key lime was a risk and it not disappointed. Tried the fruity one, good but I preferred the chocolate and coconut flavor of the Samoa
google avatar

Devon H.

Yelp
Located right at the mouth of the underground, the dessert offered here is phenomenal. We had 3 different orders and tried different things. Everything was delicious. Would recommend!!

Life with Lay L.

Yelp
I had the chocolate mousse cake.....absolutely gross, didn't taste like chocolate at all...honestly it taste like toilet water with vodka in it or something. Seriously disappointed:((((
google avatar

Meera P.

Yelp
The coffee tres leches is unparalleled. Highly recommend this dessert for all lovers of coffee. It is the perfect sweet spot!!
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
I've stopped by this spot which is impossible to miss if you're coming to the underground food hall. Griselda has a large selection of tres leches, kind of like the cheesecake factory has with cheesecakes...there are also a few other type desserts but I've stuck with the tres leches. They are really good and prepped right in front of you with additional toppings.
google avatar

Alice G.

Yelp
Second time going and same (not approachable) lady. Doesn't even acknowledge that you are there. Just like prior review we thought it was self service since screen was facing us. Cake okay not worth the drive and paid parking.
google avatar

Verena A.

Yelp
Place is hard to find, walked in a lady standing looking down stairs after some time she looked at me and didn't say a word, so I kept standing there, after a little while I asked if she worked there she said no, so I asked if someone worked there she said yes that he was downstairs, so I waited he came up didn't look too happy to see us we ordered two cakes. Cake is good, we set at a dirty table até the cake and the lady that said she didn't work there set inside the counter like she worked there lol Place doesn't look clean. End of story not worth... Cake 4 star Customer service 0 star Cleanness 1 star Location 1 star Owner of this small business please get attention to the your customer service several reviews saying this
google avatar

Rina O.

Yelp
Perfect combination. Not too sweet not too anything. It's perfect. This baker really knows her stuff! Unfortunately it's $6.50 a slice . Pricy but it's sure is delightful
google avatar

Eli R.

Yelp
Both of the cakes I ordered where over baked and the edges were burnt. We had to scrape burnt ends off. The key lime napoleon tasted like it had sat there for a few days. Sad for slices that cost 8 dollars each!

Kelly P.

Yelp
We got 3 desserts to go from here. The carrot cake is good. Cinnamon Toast Crunch is okay. Red velvet is absolutely disgusting. Two of the cakes are extremely soggy. Literally soaked with liquid in bottom of container. It's edible but don't waste your money
google avatar

Darian D.

Yelp
The little greeter guy at the door is rude! It says the underground hall closes at 11... but they won't serve after 10:45! Bad business!

Chris B.

Yelp
Decent cakes! First time trying tres leches cakes and wasn't as good as I thought it would be.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
Red velvet didn't taste like it. Wasn't good at all. My wife got the Reese's one she liked it. That's why I gave them 3 stars
google avatar

Hillary G.

Yelp
Walked up to the desk, woman was chatting on the phone and ignored us. We've never been here before and her POS was facing us with menu options, so we assumed we were to self order. We're looking through and clicking items on the POS (as she's watching us and talking on the phone still) and finally we pay. As soon as we are finished she comes towards us and says how can I help you. We told her what we ordered- she looks at us in shock. "Oh no, I need to do this for you... " She continued to say she had to refund and bring us back up. At this point her Lack of professionalism and rude approach made use not want to continue with purchase. Her location also smelled like it was next to an open restroom so happy we didn't purchase food from her.
google avatar

Sally Y.

Yelp
Got a few togo to try out. They were amazing! Full of flavor and so so moist! I have a sweet tooth and this definitely hit the right spot! Coming back for more soon!
google avatar

Jooy C.

Yelp
Pricey but BOMB...we were strolling around downtown Houston and wanted something sweet, this cake really just hit the spot. We ordered the Nutella, but honestly all of the flavors looked delicious. I will be back for more!

Angelo C.

Yelp
Really good carrot cake. Nice assortment of flavored tres leches. Cool atmosphere at the underground bar. Only wish they had some cafesito. Definitely a carrot cake worth trying.
google avatar

Candice T.

Yelp
The tres leches was decent. Cute little place but the homeless guy in front that harasses you pretending to be a parking attndeant should leave people alone. He asked for a tip....lol!! I told him I'd give him one when I came out and he said he gets a lunch break like everyone else. He was harmless but annoying!

David G.

Yelp
My favorite is red velvet! I have been going to this place for 5 years and it always hits the spot! Luv luv'em leches
