"A short hop from the looming socialist architecture of Alexanderplatz in the heart of Berlin-Mitte, this discreet luxury hotel complex is ensconced within a former Communist KGB office. Not that there’s anything remotely "Ost" about the bright, modern apartments and suites. Decorated with a minimalist, all-white aesthetic and equipped with writing desks, open bathrooms with rain showers, and fully fitted kitchenettes, they’re more catwalk than comrade. The accommodations are all apartments and suites rather than rooms, ranging from 30 square meters to a whopping 160 square meters."

"The stately late 19th-century buildings at Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse 11-13 were originally used to house German officers, and they’ve served various functions since, notably as a military hospital during World War I and later as a Cold War–era KGB surveillance station. Today, this restored landmark is home to the stylish Lux Eleven Berlin-Mitte." - Tablet Hotels

Lux 11 Berlin-Mitte | Best places to stay in Berlin

"This imposing building was once an office of the secret police. Today, it’s a luxury hotel with 73 beautifully-appointed rooms & suites, flooded with natural light. Even the most basic have queen beds and kitchens with microwaves, fridges, dishwashers and coffeemakers. There are also several separate, self-contained, multi-room apartments you can book close by through the hotel – ideal for groups and family stays. There’s a good in-house restaurant (operated by a third party), and guests may use the fitness centre at EVO Fitness, opposite the hotel. Lux sits in the perfect location for Mitte’s shopping and Prenzlauer Berg’s cool bars. It’s a good base for sightseeing and first visits – a 15-minute walk from Museum Island; a 3-minute walk from Alexanderplatz station. " - Matthew Roach

The hotel room was extremely clean, had a view of the tower, and featured a nice design. It was also close to a grocery store and offered easy access to public transport. For someone who wants an authentic walk through the city, you can easily reach the main street from Alexanderplatz, seeing many sights along the way. Nearby is also the Museumsinsel, where you can enjoy cultural and historical experiences.||A restaurant in the same building offers a nice selection of dishes and drinks. The staff were very polite, especially the waitresses Michaela and Theresa :)|I received my food very quickly.|There was nice music and a pleasant atmosphere.||For breakfast, you can get coffee and smoothies at the lounge, as well as great sandwiches and cakes. Our room had a small kitchen with enough appliances for light cooking and an air conditioner, which was very helpful during the hot weather.

Hotel check in an finding the place was really easy. Really nice that there is a restaurant and deli connected, and even though we didn't use the restaurant, the deli food was lovely just a bit on the pricey side, but was not a massive problem. We stayed on the fourth floor in a room that was well equipped for us. We were only there for 3 nights so we didn't use the kitchen but it looked well equipped as good for if you were looking to make a simple meal. I do agree with others saying that the room is definitely suited for a couple, due to the location of the shower and the glass there. It was a really lovely shower, didn't change temperature mid shower and was a good pressure, easy to use. The only problem I would say is that the step leading up to the shower got absolute soaked due to the shower. The bed was lovely and big, and very comfortable, as someone who is very particular about pillows, I had a really good experience. Wasn't a problem for us as the weather wasn't the best but there was only duvets, which during a warmer time may have been harder to manage. TV worked great, well equipped with Netflix and other channels. Lovely balcony which was a good surprise and things like the safe, hair dyer etc were easy to use. The amenities room was a great addition. Moving onto the cleanliness, everything was great in terms of being cleaned down etc, however probably about 2 hours before we were due to leave, my boyfriend found a pair of male boxers and a sock tucked in the corner under the safe. We assumed they were from the previous guest and the had been missed, which I understand things happen but was really not nice to see. That was literally the only main issue that we had with the place and it was only the last day so luckily it didn't ruin the trip, just maybe needs a bit more attention to detail, which I understand can be hard in a almost staff less hotel. All in all, it was a lovely hotel and was a good place to stay, in a great location I would definitely come back here and recommend it.

Our check-in experience was very modern—we weren’t expecting a fully self-service process with no front desk staff, but it worked smoothly. You check in yourself and make your own key, which was a unique and convenient experience. The room was spacious and beautifully designed. The shower and sink with a view into the bedroom was an unexpected feature, but we actually really liked it. Large windows throughout the room offered a stunning view of the TV Tower, which was a definite highlight. We also enjoyed the location—especially the great Kebab place right on the corner. The staff at both lobby bars were incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding a personal touch to our stay. The in-room coffee was excellent, and overall, the location couldn’t have been better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a modern, stylish hotel in a great spot!

Large room and very clean. Street view, also with a view of the tv tower. Self check in, although support from staff was there, if required, staff we interacted with were English speaking. Housekeeping available from the second night of stay onwards. Hotel has a shop for essentials also a bar and café. Situated very close to Alexanderplatz S+U bhan stations and tram stop. There are plenty of places to eat and shop in the area. Check out available online or at the front desk. Highly recommend this as a place to stay, whether for one night or for a few weeks.

We were not very happy with our choice of accommodation. You have to request room service in a very strange way. You are somewhat on your own. No staff at reception. Good English skills required to communicate with the team. Although you write in German, you get answers in English. But for young people who are not demanding and are looking for cheap accommodation with comfort, it's just right. The location is good.

Check-in and check-out is on your own, you even have to program the card yourself and there is never anyone behind the counter. Rooms are very nice, with a balcony, comfortable bed with plenty of pillows/cushions and a television with many channels (tho programs are in German or at least dubbed in it). They even give you nice bedroom slippers, a kettle and tea and coffee and there are plenty of sockets to charge your devices in the room. There is a safe, microwave, and small stove to do your cooking with plates, bowls, and cutlery provided. We can even use the laundry facilities (both washing machine and dryer) in the basement and help ourselves to extra towels and tissue boxes if we need to. Location is very near the Alexanderplatz train station (around 5-6 mins walk). Supermarket is also located about 5 mins aways from here, which is huge just bear in mind its closed on Sundays.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights at the Lux 11 hotel in Mitte, Berlin. It is a lovely hotel and we loved our stay from start to finish. The self check in process is easy and quite fun with staff there to assist if there are any problems. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and a fantastic shower. The hotel is in a great location and close to U-Bahn stations at Alexanderplatz and Rosa Luxemburgplatz. Trams and S-Bahn also very close.||The staff were all so friendly and helpful in the cafe lounge, bar and restaurant - it would be hard to find a better team. Unusually we ate in the hotel restaurant on two evenings - we had to go back a second time it was so good and the chef and his small team were friendly, helpful and creative. The cocktails and wines were also very enjoyable.||There are good dining and shopping options close to the hotel as well. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation and look forward to a return visit when we come back to Berlin.

Google
Checkin was easy, using a tablet at the front desk instead of speaking to someone. Activating the cards was a bit annoying and took multiple attempts. Room was nice and modern but layout of the facilities was frustrating. Having the sink in the communal area instead of in the toilet made privacy difficult. There were a few ants in the "dressing room" area of the room. Restaurant prices were very high for what looked like small portions. Cafe attached to it was nice, coffee was ok but small selection of pastries. Essentials room on the -1 floor was really really good. Being able to get spare toilet roll and towels was handy. Ironing station and washing equipment also worked really well. Last thing which was very off-putting was it seems we could hear the drainage from other rooms toilets, so every flush of the chain we'd hear water trickling and it was quite loud.

Yelp
What a great place to stay. Stayed at the Executive Suit and it more than exceeded expectations. The view was amazing and very close to everything. Their restaurants on the first floor were actually pretty good though on the expensive side compared to all the fun eateries around the city. It's very Uber accesible and their laundry facility is great. Will definitely revisit when I return in July.

Yelp
Location: 5 Fantastic location. The hotel is conveniently located within easy walking distance to Alexander Platz train station and numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants. It's right in the heart of the MItte district, so getting around was very easy. We pretty much walked to Alexander Platz everyday during our 4 night stay. Rooms: 3.5/4 The hotel kind of has a 'luxury' apartment feel. They didn't really look like the pictures on the actual website, but the pictures here are definitely more reflective of what our room looked like. The design is very minimalist, albeit clean, spacious, and there was plenty of natural light. The 3.5/4 star rating is more because it did feel a little cold with the light green walls. Not to mention, the shower and vanity/bedroom is separated by a transparent glass wall. So if you're not there with your significant other/spouse, this room might be a bit awkward. We stayed in a standard room and it included a queen-sized bed, a lovely kitchenette, separate shower and bathroom, and the toiletries were great quality (I don't remember the name of the products, but they smelled amazing). The bed and pillows were quite comfortable. Oh, and a big thing that we didn't realize before we checked in - there's no central air! We were there in mid June, and there were definitely a few nights where we were pretty warm. The room came with a pedestal fan though. It wasn't a big deal, but just something to keep in mind. Food: N/A There's no room service or continental breakfast. However, TYPE HYPE could serve as the hotel's cafe. Service: 5 The front desk staff was always very friendly and accommodating. They made our check-in and check-out process very seamless. We even got some great recommendations from one of the evening staff members too (again, I wish I remembered his name!). Overall, we were quite happy with our stay at Lux 11. Would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Just spent the weekend here and I absolutely loved it. If you're looking for something a bit different to a standard hotel - then Lux 11 might be right up your street. It's basically a serviced apartment building, with a hotel reception and breakfast. It's in a great old building, with ultra-modern rooms done out in a minimalist, but not at all uncomfortable style. I should have taken more photos actually. Our room was a generous 30sq meters, and it came with fridge, microwave, great walk in shower, huge concrete sink, flat screen, dvd player etc etc. The bed was supremely comfortable, and there's no one tidying up your stuff every morning and annoying you - it's just like living there. Absolutely ideal for weekend away with a healthy dose of clubbing and a nice space to recover and gloat over the British medal haul at the Olympics! I might add - breakfast @ EUR12 isn't that cheap, but the setting was great (in Shiro nextdoor), and everything about it was perfect. Lux 11 is right in middle of the action - in Mitte, just a stone's throw from Alexanderplatz - and so, 5 stars in my book.

Yelp
This hotel is amazing. I got here and realized I'd left my purse in the Uber and they took care of everything. Tracked down the driver and spoke to him and got my bag back to me. They have all been really friendly and helpful my entire stay. The room is beautiful and clean with everything I could want or need. It's close to everything too. A great home base in Berlin. Definitely want to stay here again.

Yelp
my second stay here. i guess it used to be a great hotel, before the paint came off the showers. before you came into a totally humid room where they hung up totally wet curtains. before the "rain-shower" stop working properly. before there was some dried liquid on the walls just next to your bed (don't really wanna know what it originally was - yuk!) the only reason lux gets 3 stars from me, is because the cafe downstairs and especially the prince restaurant are great in food and drinks. everything else, forget it.

Yelp
One of the nicest places I've ever stayed! Everything was just perfect. The deluxe room we had was like a studio. Equipped with mini kitchen, tv, dvd, giant bed, seats, big soft rug. Exciting walk in shower and being able to control all the different lights from a panel of buttons on the headboard were particular highlights! Spotlessly clean and didn't feel like a hotel - more like your own little pied a terre in Mitte, a cool place in East Berlin in walking distance of bars, shops, restaurants and S and U-Bahns. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Cool design hotel which is more of an apartment place. Each room has a kitchenette. They are more hotel rooms though than apartments. All very stylish and modern. Staff is nice but as some wrote a bit overwhelmed at times. Location is the best part about this place. Perfect if you are staying in Mitte. It's not cheap but if you shop around you can find better than most people quote (120 Euro a night). What I didn't like was that the floor in the room wasn't much different from a jail cell (don't ask). Hard, cold cement just painted with some light blue color. Not my thing....I like carpets. Further, the shower in my room was really cool but not designed well. I managed to get a nice area of the room wet when showering. Finally, the cleaning every three days is kinda weird at this price point. Still definately a good place if you're looking to stay in the area. There is much cheaper to be had with fairly good quality.
