"This unassuming little restaurant with an expanded patio is a great destination for Bolivian dishes. Don’t miss the silpancho — a breaded steak dish topped with egg — the ceviche, or the giant sandwich. There’s also a limited selection of Tex-Mex dishes. Takeout available here." - Missy Frederick

The Silpancho is the best in the area no doubt but the Peanut soup is not good at all. I was very disappointed it’s very thick and bland. The soup is like it came out of a can, kinda like a cream of mushroom soup. Make sure you check your bag when you place a to go order because there’y very likely to forget something.

Totally recommend this Bolivian restaurant. Excellent service and generous portions. Plus I got to practice my bad Spanish. Salteñas baby!

Cute eatery, delicious food! I loved the beef tongue, and the salteña was delicious, slightly sweet but savory and the pastry shell was flaky. Yum!

What an amazing little Bolivian restaurant! My family is from Bolivia so they took me to this VERY authentic Bolivian restaurant to let me experience the food they grew up on. Food was amazing and the servers went above and beyond to accommodate my ignorance. There may be a small language barrier as most of the wait staff are from Latin America BUT they go out of their way to make you feel at home. I tried so many new things and really enjoyed the overall experiences here! Definitely drop in and see these guys!

Food was alright. I had the picante de pollo but something tasted off about it. It wasn't terrible but the sauce was maybe a little on the bland side to be a picante. The chuño was good and the potatoes. It was a lot of food for a relatively decent price. Server was nice and accommodating. Atmosphere was clean & relaxed.

We went hoping for great experience. Unfortunately the service was not good. The girl waiting on us appeared to be waiting on too many tables and even forgot to come to get the card so we could pay. I ordered milanesa which I could not eat. It was thick and had a layer of egg. It had no taste and it was awful. When I told the waitress, she just stared at me and didn’t even give an apology nor attempted to address the problem Music was very loud Do not waste your money. I paid 50 dollars for 2 dishes(my husband and mine) but was unable to eat mine

This is the Best Bolivian restaurant in the area! Do yourself a favor and come visit this gem. Lapping and charque are always delicious, costillas and falso conejo also amazing!!

Google
Delicious!! I had the Mani soup and the Lengua. Both were interesting, perfectly seasoned, and arrived so fast. They were accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Lovely, family-friendly place with excellent and affordable food. Love love love Luzmary.

Yelp
I visited this place a couple days ago and it was great. Really enjoyed the music and the service. The foot was excellent and very authentic. Especially the Charque! It is probably the best Bolivian food I've had since I arrived in the US.

Yelp
Falls Church, VA - Had a craving for saltenas after a workout and knew my handsome husband would appreciate the treat so stopped by this little restaurant across from Victory Comics on a Friday morning. The restaurant featured a nice size parking lot. It was quiet inside due to the early hour - about 1100 - I can imagine it gets busy later. Service for takeout was super quick and friendly. In less than 5 minutes I was back in my car with the heavenly scent of the fresh saltenas filling the air. Upon entering our home and opening the well packed box...We found the dough to be fresh and just a bit crisp. Fillings were robust. Both featured big pieces of egg and even a tangy olive. The beef had nice tender chunks of beef. We found the sauce to be just a little sweet. Would definitely return when in the area.

Yelp
Their sálteñas are as of today 5/22/24 $ 3.75 plus tax Almost $ 4.00 each! That's crazy for a small meat pie! I gotta start making my own sálteñas! The restaurant is nice but food is overpriced!

Yelp
My husband and I generally don't complain about food, especially when it's flavorful and well-prepared. However, what we truly can't stand is when people try to take advantage of customers. This was our experience at a restaurant where the menu had no prices listed--a red flag that can turn a dining experience into a disaster. When we noticed this, we inquired about it, but the waitress did not respond. We ordered two dishes: a planchita and a silpancho. It was our first visit, and the waitress, perhaps knowing this, decided to order the planchita for two--which cost $46--without our consent. Each of us had intended to order individually, and there was no need for a shared plate meant for two but I guess he decided to do it this way because again, you don't see those details on the menu or prices. The lack of price transparency on the menu meant we were unaware of the cost until it was too late. This experience was disappointing and discouraging, making us disappointed to return to the restaurant.

Yelp
Once you walk inside the red carpet entrance my friend and I were kindly greeting by the staff, but passing the cafe counter inside the actual restaurant was dark, even though the windows allowed light to seep in. The servers were attentive in explaining the menu, since we were looking for a light snack we got two empanadas , one cheese and the other spicy cheese. I wished they were warmed up because they were served cold... the green spicy "Ajillo" salsa made up for the dry pastry but the filling itself was pretty tasty, could have been better though. First time trying a Bolivian empanada but definitely not the last. I believe this restaurant does serve as a nightclub on certain days since there was large speakers and light production all around where we sat.

Yelp
I visited this place in early October when I was visiting my partner's family in NoVA. They are Bolivian and another important goal was for me to try Bolivian food for the first time. Of course, it's great when people familiar with the cuisine already validate the authenticity of the cuisine offered, which Luzmary already had from my partner's family. The restaurant itself has plenty of room inside. There is a separate side for those who chose to only order takeout, which make things more convenient. We order a few dishes for takeout but also ordered Salteñas to enjoy while we waited for them to whip up the food. They were very accommodating even though we were using both spaces. The Salteñas were delicious. I had the beef one and tried the chicken. I also enjoyed the sauce that went with it. At home, we had the Silpancho, Lapping, Pique Macho and Charque. My favorites were the Pique Macho with its combo of meat, hot for, fries and sauce and the Lapping, the flavor of the steak was exquisite. The Silpancho with its thin breaded steak was good, too. The Charque wasn't my personal favorite due to my tastes since dried shredded beef isn't my favorite but I will say that if it's your thing, I think that others will like it. Overall, my first full foray into a Bolivian traditional meal was a complete success. This restaurant has the seal of approval of Bolivians and myself, a non-Bolivian, I enjoyed everything that I was able to try!

Adriana Q.

Yelp
The staff and service was amazing and everyone is very friendly. The saltenas were my favorite out of everything we got and will definitely come back for more Saltenas.

Rebecca F.

Yelp
UPDATE & CORRECTION: Llajwa, a Bolivian salsa or hot sauce, uses locoto peppers, a pretty spicy chile that has black seeds, and an herb called quillquiña, a green that is somewhat similar to cilantro but has a unique taste and bitterness. Neither is local or typically grown in the US so the salsa is often made with jalapeños & cilantro. I called it jalapeño purée, which I cannot go back & edit my reviews to correct it since they are from so long ago, but I can make it right but telling you it is not jalapeño purée. It has the appearance and flavors that hint at it but alas it is Llajwa & it is a staple in Bolivian cuisine & I just think it's so damn good!!! Period.

Yelp
I tried to order online first but the website on Yelp took me to a weird website. Okay, let's try calling but no one picked up the phone. I called again and finally someone picked up but spoke very limited English. She got the order right and I picked up the 4 saltenas and 2 empanadas. After I got home, I ate a beef saltena and almost cracked my tooth when I bit into an olive pit. I called the restaurant to explain the situation so they can warn the kitchen to be more careful on food prep. The same lady answered and screamed at someone in the kitchen who I assume is more proficient in English to talk to me. There was some back-and-forth exchange that I didn't understand so I left my phone number and told her to have someone call me back. Well, it has been 2 days and no one called me back. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens more often. For the remaining saltenas, I'm going to eat them with a spoon and check the contents. The beef in the saltenas was grisly and chewy. The flavor of saltenas is off and not very juicy. The cheese empanadas are even worse than saltenas. They're dry with no cheese filling inside. I'm not going back to Luzmary due to the disappointing food, communication, and the lack of follow-up.

Yelp
Acabamos de ir a comer y nos decepcionó Luz Mary, comida insípida, regular atención, carne dura. No nos pareció un buen lugar.

Shelly J.

Yelp
Sorry but this place has gone down. As someone who has family from Bolivia, I'm not a stranger to this cuisine. Now when they opened their sister restaurant first, LUZMILAS, which isn't that far from here, service wasn't the best, the food was ok. Luzmarys was good, service was on point. Carry out was decent, but the quality has gone down, within the last 2 years. They have gotten so popular they just don't give a care. Saltenas aren't what they use to be. Their entrees lack flavor, and load you up with a shit load of carbs. Unseasoned rice, over baked potatoes, and stale welcome bread. Their falso conejo ( beef tongue) needs improvement. The tongue is hit or miss. It can be good if seasoned well and if served hot. The spicy cheese empanadas were my favorite but it's served cold. The humietas use to be a fave of mine, but they over baked, which tells me they re heat their food a lot or someone loves burning food. Their Silpancho, can be good if served hot and seasoned. Sopa de Mani... is bland!! Too watery and yall add potato chip flakes on top as a garnish??! Yuck. Service was awful. If you dine solo or duo, they will forget you..they only care about big groups. Luzmarys do better please!

Yelp
After hearing great reviews from friends I decided to come back and try this place out again. I don't know if there is a new owner but this place has changed for the Good!! As soon as you walk in your welcomed by the entire staff. Plane is nice and clean, there was a mix of families and couples. Our waiter was so nice she checked on us periodically felt so good to be treated this way. We ordered a choclo con Queso it was super fresh, the cheese was so delicious. There's nothing like a homemade meal. We started off with homemade bread warm and so fluffy, took me back to Home. With every bite it took me back to Bolivia so know I was all smiles. The hot sauce accompanied with the bread was delicious, if you like spice this would be one to try otherwise be careful. We ordered the sopa de mani as you can see Kid approved!!! I'll be back for more soon!!

Yelp
Came here on a weekend. This restaurant is split into two areas, the first being a takeout counter and the other section the main dining area. The ambience was nice with a DJ singing songs, and fast customer service. It honestly felt like I accidentally went to someone's birthday party since there were so many balloons. Either way I ordered a empanada which I felt there wasn't much inside it, maybe that's the way this place makes them, but I've had them before elsewhere and they had more stuffing. For the main dish I ordered a chicken stew which was really great. I definitely will plan on coming back to try the soup which was sold out.

Yelp
Luzmary is a Bolivian restaurant that is located off of Lee Highway. The menu offers appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, various meat dishes and platters, breakfast options, and a la carte items. A small get-together was held here for a weekend lunch, and we ordered: +chicken saltenas - filled with green peas, potatoes, and a boiled egg +beef saltenas - filled with green peas, potatoes, and a boiled egg +salchipapas - sliced hot dogs and french fries +cheese empanadas - filled with cheese and onions +picante empanadas - filled with spicy cheese and onions +empanadas de arroz +cunapes +rollo de quesos +pasteles de queso +mani - peanut soup garnished with fries and parsley +silpancho - thin breaded steak with rice, fried potatoes, eggs, onions, and tomatoes +milanesa de pollo - served with rice, fries, and a side salad +chicharron - fried pork with white corn and potatoes +churrasco - grilled NY steak with rice, fries, and a side salad Everything was made-to-order and arrived piping hot; the silpancho platter was pretty good, where the breading was still crisp and the seasonings were well done. The pastries were soft and all enjoyable, the favorite being the flavorful saltenas! Service was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The place was packed, but that didn't deter in the quality of the service! Street parking can be found in the area. +saltenas +picante empanadas +friendly service +street parking available

Yelp
Server here doesn't even like to do his job came around like twice then forced gratuity on the check. Food is always good but man it smelt horrible in there.

MC C.

Yelp
Best Salteñas in the area ! The plates are large enough to share (if you would like to). Humitas are delicious (similar to corn tamales).

Mina M.

Yelp
Not clean inside, food looks old and tastes old. Dry flavorless and gave me stomach issues. Won't be back

Edgar H.

Yelp
Food (-) Did I come at a bad time? It was a late lunch, but a good restaurant should be on point all day. The beef salteña was was subpar. Falso Conejo was missing flavor. The soups were okay. Never going to order Sub Chola again. Service (+) Environment (-) Felt very dark inside. The floors are slippery, almost oily? Interestingly, the floor felt like it was slightly off level, like my chair was sliding on the floor towards the front door. I was constantly adjusting my seat while eating. Price (+) Overall (-) As a reminder to myself, I'll try this place one more time. Maybe it was just bad timing?

Yelp
I was craving Saltenas after seeing the Around the World food festival in Alexandria put out a preview ad for empanadas, at $6 a pop. I was like wow, $6 is pretty steep, but in the inflation era, and at a festival, I guess that was the going rate. This had me craving empanadas, and in particular, Saltenas. I figured I'd be able to find a local joint with better prices than what the festival offered. Searching around Yelp, Luzmary was the closest that seemed to have authentic saltenas. I drove on a Sunday around mid-afternoon and the parking lot was full, the front patio was full of people, and I could tell this was a popular place for locals. I got my Saltenas, chicken, and beef (never had beef before), and to my surprise, they were only $3.50. These were big saltenas too. I took them home, and they were really good quality. It has the perfect amount of dough-to-meat, veg, and soup ratio. It was fresh, and filling, only needed a saltena and a half to fill me up. I've never heard the beef before and that was really good. The mix of soft potatoes, olives, chicken/beef, soup, and dough, really come together well in this not-so-small pocket of heaven. It's a versatile meal that makes for a great filling snack or a full lunch/dinner. I plan to bring this hiking sometime, it manages to stay dry and crispy on the outside, but moist and soupy on the inside somehow. For any fans of Xiao Long Bao (chinese soup dumplings), try these Saltenas. They are different, but the soup inside dough with meat is what makes it similar and delicious.

Roberto T.

Yelp
The food is amazing Salteñas are the best And you should try the Silpancho, Pique a lo Macho and their sandwiches too.

Jen L.

Yelp
I've always been curious about this place and finally bit the bullet to try it. For two, we got- - 2 beef saltena (4/5) - 1 chicken saltena (3.5/5) - 1 falso mixto (5/5) Ohmygosh the falso mixto was SO good. The beef tongue was extremely tender and flavorful and went so well with fresh tomatoes, red onions and rice. The bolivian stew it was simmered in was comforting and warm. Would come back just for the tongue alone. The saltena were pretty good but didn't have a great meat to other filling ratio. The stew was also sweeter than I was expecting, and with the skin being also sweet as well, felt a bit overwhelming for lunch. Still a great deal at $3.50 each though and they were generously sized.

Sanjay J.

Yelp
Different types of food, not my type, service are bit slow, waiter not helpful to recommend quality of food, we end up buying 7 en tray for 3 guest

Edith M.

Yelp
I gave this 4 star rating based on the traditional salteñas THEY ARE DELICIOUS!!!! Recently I visited and they were having a karaoke afternoon it was a pleasant environment while waiting for my take out order. The young lady and young gentleman cashiers at the front were not interested in my question a or small talk about the food and products. My only feedback would be to train your cashiers to learn how to engage with customers and clean the restaurant and waiting area.... the counters chairs and floor looks dirty and it is the reason why dining in has beeen an option.

M B.

Yelp
For what this is, I would give it 5-stars. Putting it at four, however, because it's more of a hole in the wall with great food than a fancy restaurant. The food here tastes better than the food in Bolivia. Maybe it's the lower altitude, maybe it's cooked better, maybe it's a different recipe, I'm not sure. Someone told me it was because the cook here is a better chef, which could also be the case. In any event, this place has the best Bolivian food you will find, even better than when in Bolivia. Love this place.

B G.

Yelp
The food was good the service not that good , very slow , the waitress did not come to chk on the table. . Ambiance was ok .

Jacob C.

Yelp
If you haven't had a saltena, you are missing out! And LuzMary has my favorite (picture attached). They come in beef and chicken, and are essentially a beef/chicken stew with an egg and an olive mixed in and wrapped in a sweet pie crust like wrapper. They are amazing and the green hot sauce and yellow other sauce complement it perfectly. Go try one. Other stand outs for me here are the Chairo (beef and Bolivian potato soup), silpancho (lightly breaded steak served over potatoes and rice and under two perfectly cooked eggs, jalapeños, tomatoes, and onion. I also love the Api - a blue corn based drink that is served hot and tastes like açaí, cinnamon, and sugar - could be a meal itself.

Chris P.

Yelp
Excellent tasting salteñas, probably the best overall I've had at a good price in the area. Would definitely go back here and make this my top spot for salteñas.

Vicki K.

Yelp
This place was pretty great. I really liked the silpancho I ordered until i tried my friends food which was way better. They got a stew dish and that was probably the way to go. The service was great and the beer selection was unique. I'll be back to try more things on the menu.

Chris B.

Yelp
Homemade, traditional Bolivian recipes. Hearty servings. Wide selection of meals and sandwiches. Excellent quality. Tried the pork chops and breaded steak. Served with rice, fries and black beans. The meals were tasty and filling. The restaurant area is also configured as a sports bar. Worth taking a chance to try something a little different. Hope you enjoy !

Adam G.

Yelp
I'm totally hooked on their pique lo macho!

Lily F.

Yelp
I've never had Bolivian food before and I can happily say that now I'm a huge fan of it! We came in not really knowing what to expect but was well taken care of by a friendly waiter. I ordered the Silpancho which is a thinly breaded steak served with a mountain of rice and potatoes. And I mean huge portions of both the carbs and the meat. It was too much for me to eat in one sitting and I got to enjoy it again the next day for lunch. My boyfriend ordered the Picante de lengua (cow tongue) and it was so incredibly tender. We ate our enormous meals while sipping on a Chuflay. We are definitely coming back to sample some more of their menu. Come here hungry!

Bubble B.

Yelp
I came here with my girlfriend and had a great experience. They had a friendly staff and authentic Bolivian dishes. The portions were also very generous. We each started off with a saltena de pollo which was delicious and fresh. It came with green aji which was freshly made. For dinner, she got Pique Lo Macho which was made to perfection. I myself got Falso Conejo which was very tasty, each bite exploded with flavor. I'm from Santa Cruz Bolivia and I truly give this place a 5 out of 5. Highly recommend you give them a try.

Juliana N.

Yelp
Love the food but the website doesn't work, I love the silpancho there and the vibes!

Philip M.

Yelp
My Bolivian wife loves Luzmary. One of our biggest reasons for visiting Virginia was to try the authentic Bolivian food out there, as there are little to none Bolivian cuisine in California. Our original plan was to try a different Bolivian restaurant each day during our three day trip. We actually ended up dining here all three days as my wife loved all their food here. She said the food here is authentic, true to Cochabamba style. She particularly loved the sopa de mani soup. I l enjoyed the pastel frito, a fried pastry with lots of warm gooey cheese. If you decide to order their entrees, be prepared to come hungry. One of these plates can easily feed 2-3 people. Service is friendly here and there is plenty of seating for any party size. If our family ever heads back to Virginia, we will definitely look out for Luzmary's again.

Ralf H.

Yelp
The salteñas are the best in the area. In general the food is great and very authentic. The staff is always friendly. Nothing bad to say really.

Maria A.

Yelp
Awesome food Servíng servants were great and the food taste amazing and greatest service everything is clean in there nice job

Noel Z.

Yelp
Food is always super good! Salteñas are best around DMV Service is mid when it gets busy, however, if it's calm it's ok. Still not the best though unfortunately. Good vibes all around, they have sports playing in the am and good songs always

Grace W.

Yelp
Substantial seating on two floors, parking can be a challenge. Pastels con queso, api and sáltenas are good. Service is decent but a bit show at times. The milanesa sandwiches and sopa de maní are ok but not as good as some other places.

Christine H.

Yelp
Was in the area after a spa appointment and browsed Yelp for something to eat. Found this little hole in the wall right around the corner with fantastic reviews. We wanted to try many different things on the menu because it all sounded great. First thing was the spicy cheese and onion empanada. Meh - I was not a fan. Too much bread/dough and the filling was not what I was expecting. I guess I was thinking more of a melted cheese and it was not spicy at all. Don't recommend the empanada. The chicharron was really good. Super crispy outside, and the meat was not dry at all. My main entree - the falso conejo was yummy. It's a breaded steak in a gravy sauce served with rice. I would recommend this dish!

Katelyn V.

Yelp
Restaurant was too packed, not enough waiters/waitresses. Brought appetizer after meals and automatically charged tip. Don't Recommend on weekends, food takes forever and normally it is understaffed

Mariana Y.

Yelp
Yum! Great quality Bolivian food, fresh and terrific tasting. We have ordered hundreds of Salteñas for school events, catering for family gatherings, and sometimes just a quick lunch. Luzmary's is always a hit.

Yan W.

Yelp
I've discovered I'm not a huge fan of saltenas, but out of all that I've had, this place has the best. The saltenas are like Bolivian pot pies, but they have a sweet side to them. I've tried the chicken and beef here. Both are good. Their beef tongue and chicken mixto was also good. Portions are huge! I got delivery and had food for three days....

Kwall P.

Yelp
I cannot get enough of the saltenas from here. Family owned and operated. Great service really good food. Place gets slammed for takeout but it's worth the wait every single time.

Mischa J.

Yelp
Very nice place to have a Saltenas! The Saltenas were very nice. The staff were okay. The price on the laminated food menu was inconsistent with the price I paid. The laminated food menu said that one Saltenas was 2.75, but cost me 3.50 on my receipt. Also, the website for this restaurant says "insecure," when it should have a lock icon instead. Otherwise, all else was good. They also had this interesting Bolivian beer, which was almost like a combination between a malt soda and a root beer, with a low alcohol content. The trancapecho sandwich is very good, too. Also has indoor seating (too loud for my own personal tastes in the main room on a Friday night), a small room for carry out orders, and a few outdoor seats (which is where I sat). Nice place overall.

Chihi Y.

Yelp
Luzmary has been the best place to get Bolivian food for a while, but lately I'm not sure what has been going on. The saltenas are always so yummy but the quality of the rest of the food has gone down, waaay down. The one star is for the saltenas, I'll only go back for those. I ordered pork rinds/chicharrón to go, they told me 10min. It wasn't that busy when I walked in (which was 15 min after I called and then they had me wait about another 20min to half an hour- people coming in and ordering and leaving with their food while I was waiting on a simple order of pork rinds. My food was ROOM TEMPERATURE. I would've hoped after waiting long enough, it was hot and fresh out of the fryer. Anyhow, the pork tasted OLD- it definitely wasn't made fresh that day- it was rubbery, I could also taste the dirty old oil. The corn (mote) that comes with it was over cooked and soggy, it was all MUSH- ALSO had that sour taste when food is about to go bad. So much for craving chicharrones, now I'm stuck in bed sick to my stomach. Never again.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Phenomenal salteñas (chicken are my fav), huminta, cuñape, and sopa de mani!! I live in St. Louis and every time I hit the dmv, this is my first stop!

Johnny A.

Yelp
In the begging salteñas were great now they are horrible saggy old, they brake , hot outside inside frozen cold , they getting worst. Day by day

M E.

Yelp
Im Bolivian and I'm a pescatarian. I LOVE this restaurant because I can order AMAZING vegetarian Salteñas (at least 1 day notice) My favorite food ever!

Christy Y.

Yelp
Due to COVID, we decided to order takeout from this place instead of eating in. We still had to go inside but it was pretty simple. We ordered over the phone and then paid and picked up when we arrived. We ordered two different types of saltenas (chicken and beef) and their silpancho. Everything was amazing. We ate it right when we arrived home so the food was not fresh out of the oven but it still remained good condition and was still very warm. The saltenas were full of flavor and the perfect size. Inside had either the chicken or beef, vegetables, potato and olive. I didn't like the olive but once I found it, I gave it to my husband to eat. The chicken saltena was slightly spicy but the beef saltena was not. The silpancho was so delicious. The meat was tender and the it went well with the rice, egg and tomato and onions. We will have to come back again and try some of the other dishes.

Cecilia G.

Yelp
This is the spot for Salteñas in falls church! The beef ones are my favorite but the chicken is awesome as well. If you're new to Bolivian food, definitely highly recommend trying one or two. Additionally, they have great parrillada offerings, and I love the homemade mokochinchi. The service here is great as well and the prices are reasonable. I recommend stopping in and trying authentic Bolivian food!
