"Sitting in the rear corner and wrapping around its open kitchen, Mar felt noisy, brightly lit, and a little like an airport terminal, but its extensive Spanish wine list and mostly small-plate menu delivered memorable bites: Gambas El Bulli (a cryptic, gooey shrimp concoction meant to reproduce an El Bulli dish) is an intriguing signature; pulpo a la gallega ($22) was nicely rubbery and authentic in presentation; razor clams came with an almost-undetectable saffron sauce; and the fisherman’s seafood stew ($19) with hunks of fish, Manila clams, and a shrimp, paired with excellent bread for sopping, was among the best things I ate despite the elevated prices and preview-style menu." - Robert Sietsema
