Angry NRA Members Bombard the Wrong Restaurant With Negative Reviews | Eater Houston

"A small restaurant in Old Town Spring is accelerating a planned rebrand after being targeted with negative online reviews that arose from confusion with a similarly named Dallas eatery that publicly criticized National Rifle Association members during their annual conference and added a pledge on receipts to donate a portion of earnings to groups that lobby for gun-control measures. Owners Jessica and Matthew Lynn say the hostile reviews had nothing to do with the restaurant’s food or service, that they had already intended to rename the business to Lynn’s Table, and that the controversy has sped up that timeline; they posted a clarification on Facebook and note that both hold concealed-carry permits and are NRA members. The exact timing of the name change remains unclear." - Alaena Hostetter

We came in Saturday with the family and we’re pleasantly surprised with how fresh and yummy the food was, honestly we’ve only gotten fudge and ice cream from them previously and but really enjoyed the food they had to offer and look forward to trying the dinner menu sometime soon. We got the wagyu hot dog with a side of gumbo, the Lynn’s chicken salad sandwich with a salad and both the kids got pizza (which they swear is better than Pizza Hut so that’s a mom win) everything tasted super fresh and we really enjoyed the workers vibes. The hostess was super bubbly and nice, our server was awesome and extremely attentive and the cook even came out to the patio to check that we were enjoying the food! We will definitely be returning and enjoyed everything we ate! Thanks for having us! (Also I feel like the prices truly reflect the quality of food and I don’t mind paying a little more for fresh, quality food!!)

Don't be fooled by assuming they have cafe prices simply because there's "Cafe" in the name. I chose this restaurant quickly for dinner without checking the menu and regret it. The dinner menu prices are way too high.It took me too long to notice the prices and that everything was a separate charge. The food is good, but not a match for the cost. They charge $25 for a plate of spaghetti bolognese and a separate $3 for two garlic bread slices (which was not made clear while ordering). I was catching up with a friend while looking over the menu, so it was my fault for not paying closer attention. The staff were friendly and attentive, but it was not made clear while ordering that the plate didn't come with the soup/salad appetizer ($7 for a side salad!). I did appreciate that it was mixed greens rather than pitiful iceburg lettuce commonly offered, and the dressings seemed to be made in-house. We also shared a small Snickers cheasecake ($12), which was fine but could have been better for the price. The atmosphere of the restaurant also didn't match these exorbitant prices. It's an older bulding with charm, but the decor and furnishings of the interior matched more of a simple cafe feel, and not that of somewhere one should expect to pay ~$40/ person when you include a drink. To sum up - it's a decent restaurant but be prepared to pay a lot if coming for dinner.

10/10!!! You must stop by if you’re around. We stopped by with a big group of people, the food was amazing, and the owners and all the people on staff were so kind. We got burgers (they were great), and you got to treat yourself with a dessert! The location is great, such a cute town and there are many shops around. I highly recommend. We had such a great experience!! The bread pudding is unreal.

I had an opportunity to meet one of the owners and she is just as inviting as the atmosphere of there place. I found them on Google looking for a healthier food place for the hubby. They were 5-6 minutes from our shop. Visited 4 times because I wanted 🙂 to eat more option to rest out this phenomenon and they haven't let my taste buds down. Love it and healthier food options than 80% of the places you eat from. Highly recommended!!! 😋 😋 😋

Google
I’m so thankful for the service they gave us for my mom’s 80s birthday. My family came from the airport directly to Lynn’ table to give my mom a surprise and we all had a wonderful time. My mom was so happy. They set up a table for all of us in the open area in the back of the restaurant, such a nice area and peaceful as well. Also I love the food. We all loved the food. I’m vegan and definitely I can eat from the menu a few things. The attention was exceptional. Thank you all.

Love this place. The food is so good, portions are generous, and the desserts alone are worth the trip!

Google
While the staff was friendly and the atmosphere on a Tuesday was nice, this place didn't live up to the hype. The food was okay, but not great enough to justify a return trip, especially given the high cost for two people. The biggest disappointment, however, was the $5 vanilla iced coffee, which tasted exactly like it came from a carton of pre-made "International Delight" and I know this because we buy it for my husband at home..... It felt like a rip-off and really soured the experience, i know over coffee but like I said the food was okay not great. The reviews on here to me seem fake/too nice, not sure why there are so many good reviews over the food here unless people mean the ice-cream is better.. who really knows.

Yelp
Whenever I have friends or family visit from out of town, I always take them to Lynn's Table in Old Town Spring. It's my go-to spot because there's truly something for everyone--the menu has a wide range of options to suit every taste. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and you can feel the heart of the owners in every detail. They're hands-on and involved in the day-to-day operations, which really makes a difference. The staff is just as wonderful--friendly, attentive, and they make you feel like family from the moment you walk in. The portions are generous, and everything I've ever tried has been delicious. My personal favorite is the Reuben--it's absolute perfection--but honestly, I've never had a single bite here that I didn't love. If you're in Old Town Spring, don't miss this local treasure. Lynn's Table is a place where great food and genuine hospitality meet.

Yelp
Chef's Matthew and Jessica have it going on at this place!!!! What a Great accident that we ran into this place, as the first several places we researched did not meet our criteria for that evening. A little further out-of-the-way, but well worth the trip. We got there a little early and we We're seated at a table. There were several tables that were finishing up dinner service. We were a little later and it thinned out before our other guests arrived. The easy listening music was that the right volume and was easy to talk with in the background. That and the garlic bread was a great way to start. By the time the other guests arrived, we were relaxed and ready to enjoy our dinner, little did we know... On Thursday night, they have a prime rib and dessert, special, my girlfriend, and I decided to split it, and she did not think she liked prime rib. The other guest ordered a hamburger, I can't remember which one but he said it was the best hamburger. He had eaten in a very long time. The waiter at heard that we were splitting our dinner, and when it came out, they had split it on separate plates. Just the kind of service we experienced all night, always thinking ahead and was there when needed, but didn't hover. The chefs came by the table a couple of times to make sure everything was going as expected, and we were quick to let them know that it had exceeded our expectations of their little place. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, even my girlfriend enjoyed it immensely! i'm always trying to get her to eat more protein, now, we have a place to go on Thursday night. I that was the best meal that we had eaten in quite some time, everything was fresh and hot whendelivered to the table. The baked potato was light and fluffy, the kind you only get at an old-school barbecue place anymore because they cook them for so long and then keep them warm in foil.... Next time we go, we are going to ask for this chefs Thursday night, prime rib, special, which included some au gratin, spinach, that looked simply delicious!!! My girlfriend, who is the dessert, connoisseur, immensely, enjoyed the chocolate cake à la mode that came with the special dinner. We hope to become regulars at Lynn's Table!!! They have specials throughout the week I'm sure you can find one to suit your taste. We are especially excited to try the ice cream nachos on our next visit!!!

Yelp
It is a cozy & quaint establishment, appropriate for historic Old Town Spring. Drawing appeal with its prime location in the heart of plaza, Lynn's beckons visitors & tourist into its little yellow cottage with nostalgic charm. Sadly, Lynn's does not live up to the legacy of its predecessor (it was formerly Ellen's Cafe)... Service was warm & friendly, and our waitress was attentive & expeditious. Unfortunately, our meal was hardly satisfying and disappointing for the palette. The menu maintains quite a bit of diversity (influenced by war-era dishes, blending American & German heritage). However, prices are a bit steep. We spent over $80 (after tax, before tip) for 3 people on just a "so-so" meal... *The cheeseburger brought the familiarity of a cafeteria meal - a tiny patty overloaded with ketchup and mayo to try and mask how dry & bland it was. *The "seafood" salad was basically an egg salad with a bit of immigration crab. *The gumbo was soupy and (oddly) and overloaded with diced green chilis. *Fries are (surprisingly) not offered as a side item, and the fruit bowl is just a handful of grapes. From plating to taste, it all leaves much to be desired. Salt & sugar are heavy, but there isn't much flavor otherwise. While it may serve as a convenient dessert stop for passers by, there are a few other restaurants in Old Town Spring that I much prefer for higher quality lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Had the Ruben Sandwich, very good but pricey the price was different than what was listed online, the atmosphere inside and the staff were nice.

Yelp
Starving after a morning of excessive plant shopping, garden and arboretum explorting, we happened upon Old Town Spring and stopped by Lynn's Table for lunch. It's a casual eatery with a cozy, homey feel to it. Service was friendly but handsoff, checking in periodically. Foodwise, they have some brunch items, lots of lunch (salads, sandwiches, burgers, and hotdogs), and some dinner options. They also seem to have weeknight dinner specials but we came on a Saturday afternoon and lunch was what we were feeling. I ended up going for the frito pie hotdog with soup as my side. I really enjoyed the chili on my hotdog and thought the hotdog itself had a great initial bite that had a crisp to it but then remaining bites were just a hotdog. I couldn't tell that it was wagyu but also its a hotdog and I'll be honest, they're tastewise mostly the same to my palate. What won me over was the soup though, I didn't catch the name of the soup but it was one of the soups of the day and was described as a beef and vegetable soup. Yes, it was a sunny, warm day and we sat outside but I still wanted soup. I'm glad I went with it cause it was so flavorful and delicious. It almost had a like chicken gumbo flavor but felt lighter. Regardless, I wish I got the name so I can look out for it in the future. Overall, this was a really quaint dining experience and sitting on the patio allowed us to get a sense of Old Town Spring. The food was good with a personal standout of their soup.

Yelp
Entire weeks worth of food for a burger and a salad 55$ lmao absolutely insane especially for a place that has 3 customers on a Saturday night

Yelp
Stopped by to try their Houston restaurant weeks menu and was a delightful surprise. If you are ever in the old town Spring area, I'd definitely recommend this spot. The lobster cake was beautifully plated and was delicious. The peach cobbler a la mode was just the right size and the ice cream was the perfect level of sweet. The service was some of the best and was constantly being asked if I was doing ok. I overheard the manager teaching the kitchen staff about food safety and how all of the sauces are made by hand in house. We need more people like this in the restaurant business

Yelp
Great and quick service. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We had a few laughs with him. I would definitely recommend this place. Reasonable prices and good food. I tried the breakfast croissant and ate it all. Avocado toast was also ordered and looked amazing. Coffee was good. They have a large variety of sweets available to eat in or take with. They do have an outdoor seating area to enjoy the rays. I would definitely recommend trying them out and will come back because they really made you feel welcomed.

Yelp
We stumbled upon Lynn's Table while in Spring on a Saturday adventure. It's an adorable little downtown shopping district. Lynn's has perhaps the largest outdoor patio along these few blocks, so it caught our eye on a day with lovely weather. Front of house and our server were kind and checked in with us frequently. We felt right at home. I had to try their most popular sandwich, the chicken salad, which has a bit of a twist. There is pineapple in it. It's not like huge chunks or overwhelming don't worry. It added a nice sweetness to the chicken salad, which was of high quality and quite large. The midwestern in me had to try their potato salad as the side. You can choose among a handful of options at no extra cost, which is nice to see in today's day and age. The potato salad reminded me of what I had growing up in Ohio - nicely balanced with a hint of mustard. Overall, this was a solid meal and a place that can cater to varied needs of a group.

Yelp
I have reviewed this restaurant in the past but as a resident of Spring TX I discovered something lately, they have killer desserts! Their fudge is awesome. Homemade & delicious. I had the chocolate mint, to die for! I have always been a fan of the cobbler (Peach) but the fudge is now my favorite. Whatever your sweet tooth craves, try the fudge my granddaughters love it and they love this place especially the ice cream parlor milk shakes. Keep it going this place is the best.

Yelp
Another favorite when visiting Old Town Spring, Lynn's Table has a great selection for brunch and lunch. I have tried their sandwiches and salads, which are always fresh and delicious. The service has always been consistent and friendly. I love the small town charm of the restaurant and glass case at the front that displays their baked goods!

Yelp
Love the owners they are amazing and the food always made with love. This is a must stop in old town spring.

Yelp
Nice comfortable interior food is decent presentation it would be a little better but it's not really bad. Lady in the morning I wish would have served is a happy person I wish she would have waited on us, the male server that a little on stoic side that took over is kind of decent as well. Would definitely return. My son and friend had the corned beef hash with eggs, no complaints there. I had the biscuit and gravy with the meats in the gravy and to over easy eggs which turned out pretty delicious, wish I would have ordered more gravy but then I think about that at that time. Pretty expansive menu to try other things next time
google avatar

Holly H.

Yelp
Overpriced, unseasoned food. We came here for lunch after a long morning of exploring old town spring. The options for food are kind of limited so this was the only place that didn't have a long line. We were able to get a table right away, but the service took forever despite them having a lot of servers and a lot of empty tables in the restaurant. I had the chicken ranch pita with a side salad and it was honestly awful. Everything tasted unseasoned. After they brought out our food it was hard to get their attention when we needed a water refill and our check. The prices are a bit too high for the quality of food and service here.
google avatar

Michal A.

Yelp
I learned salads can be enjoyable here and passing up their Apple Pie milkshake is a rookie mistake. I keep coming back because it's nice to know the owners care about the food they use to make the dishes. They're passionate about it being fresh, non-GMO, and good. That seems pretty rare and pretty cool. And their staff is the best!
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Cute restaurant with both full service dining and an ice cream parlor side. We tried a boozy Bellini ice cream float which was pretty good, maybe a bit too sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
Second time eating here, such a pleasant place. We come to Texas to visit family and go antiquing in Spring. Today I had the quiche and fruit. It was very good and made for a light lunch. The service was excellent and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Totally recommend!!

Yelp
MilkShakes & Burgers Are AMAZING! Love The Staff !!! Owner even came out to chit chat! Everyone is so sweet and really treats you like you are family! Our new Favorite Place!!!

Yelp
A great, homestyle restaurant in Old Town Spring. They have an extensive menu but breakfast-to-lunch can be an awkward time to enter. Still, the staff are super friendly and attentive. I got a veggie sandwich with a side of potato salad, and the meal was incredibly filling. They stuffed the sandwich with as many fillings as possible! They also make a great iced coffee - mine had just the right amount of sweetness! My dad also forgot his credit card and we called them later in the day to see if he could come by and pick it up. He wasn't able to make it until three days later, and they had it for him, so kudos to the staff!

Yelp
We visited Lynn's for lunch on a Saturday at 11:30. It seemed like they were understaffed. We were seated quickly, but then waited about 20 minutes until someone took our order. We were very close to going somewhere else by that time. Luckily, it only took them about 10-15 minutes to bring the food out after we ordered. The prices are quite high for cafe type food, $16 for a sandwich, but the portions were large and everything we had was good. They are also part ice cream parlor with a walk-up counter up front. They offer many desserts and sweet treats. We ordered the club sandwich and tuna melt and enjoyed both.
google avatar

Barbara T.

Yelp
Tupac sat us and waited on us. He was delightful! If you follow my reviews you know my husband and I share an order. He cut the burger in half and his was gone by the time I looked up. The burger comes with a side so we chose The garden salad which is mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, carrots, purple cabbage and tomato. Everything was fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Best honey mustard I have ever had! Great burgers. Great club sandwich. Awesome Rubin. Enjoy! Heather waited on us and was wonderful. Mathew the chef has a great thing going on. Enjoy.

Yelp
Great service and the food was spot on. Their bread on the sandwich is delish and the staff was super friendly.

Yelp
We tried breakfast on a Saturday and it was so good we came back for lunch Sunday! The staff was friendly, the menu has a huge selection. Can't go wrong in Old Spring as it's nice to talk after a meal.

Yelp
Decided to give it a try on a Thursday night, as I'd wanted to give the Prime Rib special a go...and I'd sampled the dessert/ice cream bar recently on a short walking tour in Old Town Spring. There's two tiers on the special, dependent on the size of the Prime Rib. ($35/$50). As I wasn't starving and $15 for an extra 4oz. seemed wasteful, I went with the smaller option. The special itself works out to three courses with a potato side for the Prime Rib itself. Course one: Salad with a homemade vinaigrette dressing. Mostly exotic greens with spinach and the thickest, tangiest dressing I've had in years. Course two: The Prime Rib itself with a salt encrusted baked potato. The meat was tender with a good Au Jus, and I elected to skip the horseradish this time around. The potato was the surprising star of the show with a beautiful alligator tooth cut up top and an almost paper-thin crispy surface that was absolutely unique. Course three: Of the dessert selections, based on prior reviews I went with the peach cobbler a la mode. It had a tender flaky crust, and my only regret is that there wasn't more of it! Overall, the meal and ambiance had the small town charm I'd expected. Service was excellent with no unexpected waits. If you're expecting a higher volume meal for the $$ (like BJ's up the road), you may leave a tad disappointed. The quality of the food here is fantastic with a couple of unique flourishes that set it apart.

Yelp
Heather was so sweet, and the other employees as well. Every single one. Just awesome customer service all around. We ordered breakfast, the food was delicious. Biscuits and gravy were made perfectly, the croissant was nice and flaky. Loved the fruit. Will definitely be returning. Thanks guys

Yelp
Hot dog on toasted challah bun and adult grill cheese ice cream dessert The guy guessed what flavor charlotte was gonna get. Predictable ahh girl. I love choclate chip cookie dough thanks tupac

Yelp
So many things to love about this comfort food & desserts place! The staff were All welcoming, friendly and caring especially to our dog! We ordered a few beers, steak sandwiches and a grilled chicken salad that I just loved! There was a lot of space and it was neat & clean too
google avatar

Traci D.

Yelp
Disappointed. Service was slow. Manager was not friendly nor even remorseful at the length of time we waited.

L O.

Yelp
We have gone here a couple of times it's decent, but the prices are high. The wait staff talk amongst themselves loudly... I really don't need to know what they like or don't as far as their jobs. The pickles are sour tasting.. kosher..? The chairs are old, so no cushion, my back was not a fan. Upgrade is needed
google avatar

MC F.

Yelp
I wish I could give Lynn's Table a better rating/review. I love that it's a privately owned small business, and the staff is absolutely terrific. So welcoming and friendly! The food, however, was simply "okay." I went twice before writing this review. On my first visit, I had the chili cheeseburger, and it wasn't memorable. I do recall wishing for more flavor. In the meat and chili. I chose Mac and cheese for my side (I found it odd that French fries or tater tots are not an option,) and it, too, was under seasoned. On my second visit, I came on a Thursday night just to try the prime rib, and, again, I was disappointed. I'd had a wonderfully seasoned prime rib two weeks prior at a Galleria restaurant, and perhaps that meal influenced my high expectations. The meat was overcooked (no pink or red in sight... an unappealing grey,) and the au jus had an odd flavor. Maybe it was an off-night for their special. The saving grace of the meal was the stunning peach cobbler, served warm with vanilla ice cream. It really was the very best peach cobbler I've had in a restaurant. The restaurant itself could use some aesthetic updates - freshening. They can maintain the old town Spring charm whilst updating the space (a la Vaudeville in Fredericksburg.) it's a great location, so an aesthetic overhaul would be money well spent.

Nick J.

Yelp
Environment and feel of this place is great. Don't come in when you're hungry, you'll wait an hour for food for just two people. They don't know how to prioritize the kitchen. Had other waitresses check on us then our own. Had to leave cause we just couldn't wait any longer. Won't be back.

Yelp
Delightful local restaurant in Old Town Spring. Comfortable atmosphere, inviting w amble seating. Menu with many options and generous portions
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
I was a little skeptical when entering Lynn's but left happy! The pasta salad is the best thing on the menu, not to diminish the BLT, which was great or the amazing soups!! Both the mushroom soup and tomato were phenomenal!! Friendly staff and amazing brunch!
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
Quaint shops here in Old Town Spring, and great lunch menu at this restaurant. I did want to try a float drink after eating here but was too full. I'll have to just make another trip!
google avatar

Yelp
Good vibes, great service, STELLAR staff. The food here is amazing. Always fresh, full of flavor, and by far worth venturing off the beaten path and into Old Town Spring if you've never been. I've had the pleasure of meeting the owners and most of the staff and each time we visit are greeted as if we're family coming to visit. Be sure to stop and grab a bite next time you're in Spring - you will NOT regret it!

Hilda D.

Yelp
Loooooove it! The ABC sandwich is delicious!. Their soups and pies are incredible. Love their unsweet Iced Tea too!
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
This was a really great little place! We were in town with our girls and soon to be son in law and came here for brunch. We chose this place because we have a couple veggies in our group and the selections for us rabbits sounded original and yummy. And they WERE! I had a California sunshine sandwich (ah-mazing!), and my daughter had a veggie wrap - which she said was delish! The carnivores in our group enjoyed their meals and my husband already said we will come back on our next visits this way this summer.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to grab lunch while in Old Town Springs. The patio is pet friendly and service is good. Lots of options to eat and all are tasty. This bread pudding was the best I've ever had!!!! Wish it wasn't a special :( it definitely should be on the menu permanently.

Yelp
Over priced food . Paid $25 for a small french dip lol . The meat had a lot of fat . Size portion of meal was small . Not worth $25 for sure . For that much money the french dip should of been more quality beef and fair amount of portions . Would not recommend friends or family . Total bill was $56.83 for 2 french dip lol .

Dustin L.

Yelp
Got there at the end of breakfast but they allowed us to order breakfast and lunch items off the menu. Corned beef hash was very good and fresh. My wife enjoyed the club sandwich. We thought we ordered a side of biscuits and gravy but I guess they only do a full order that we only ate maybe 1/3 of so paying I think $12 for one biscuit was a bit discouraging. We sat inside with a nice environment and staff was very friendly. Pretty quiet overall until a large crowd came in but we were just about done by then. We will be back but have to be more cautious on the time deadline for breakfast.

S C.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful experience on our last visit. Everyone working there was pleasant and demonstrated high levels of friendliness and happiness. We had a positive experience with everyone we interacted with. The restaurant (and restroom) was clean for use. Our food came out great and was very tasteful. The carrot cake was delicious and not too sweet. The cream cheese icing didn't have that strong cream cheese taste like most others do.
google avatar

Austin B.

Yelp
Thomas, our server was fantastic! I had the prime rib for National Prime Rib Day, the owner came out and asked how everything was and made us feel welcome for our first time being there.

Yelp
what a find! this special and oh so yummy spot in within historic Spring Tx, so after breakfast there were lots of great places to walk around. I had one of the best quiche i've ever eaten. My friend had a wonderful omelet - many options & a huge menu. There's an outdoor patio that's shaded and so perfect!

Mike M.

Yelp
The food is amazing! Chefs trained in TWO DIFFERENT areas of deliciousness The atmosphere is laid back and unpretentious. Saturday afternoons they have live music (NOT too loud and VERY enjoyable). THE best spot outside of downtown!
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
The first time I came here, I got the spinach salad (sorry no picture, was too hungry!), and it was so simply wonderful. Very few ingredients but they're all very fresh and cooked perfectly. It looks so huge but it's actually quite light, and you'll definitely eat the whole thing! This past weekend, we went back. I had my first ever Reuben sandwich and it fast became my new favorite. Perfecting corned beef is an art and they nailed it. It's a big sandwich so I only ate half but not for lack of trying! Their potato salad features yellow mustard; something I usually don't care for. I'm so glad I gave it a chance (just had one of those good feelings) because it was fantastic. I could eat a pound of that salad! For dessert, my lactose-intolerant body took extra digestive pills just to partake in the ice cream... it would've been worth any pain I experienced! SO delicious. My mom got a piece of mint fudge that was absolutely decadent too. Such flawless comfort food. So much to choose from! This is my go-to place now whenever I visit Old Town Spring.

Yelp
Great lunch place and have desserts!! Huge menu with indoor and outdoor dining. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich and pasta salad. Decent portions and loved all the flavors in my food. Daughter enjoyed her mac n cheese that looked homemade! My husband loved his Cobb Salad. Waiter gave us great service as well and prices were reasonable. We were full from lunch so didn't have time to try pies, ice cream or chocolate cake.

Yelp
We'd visited this place twice before and had delicious food and great service. However, we returned on 3-30 and the plates our food were served in smelled terrible. The food was cold and the service was quite lacking. When we brought our concerns to the m server-he shrugged his shoulders and did nothing to try and rectify the situation.
