"Lyon Street Cafe offers pour over coffee, espresso, tea, and specialty pastries and desserts. The minimal, yet warm and friendly ambiance is the perfect fit for Heritage Hill, and just what the neighborhood was missing. A bit trendy, but still has a neighborhoody, approachable vibe - one of the only coffeeshops in the downtown/midtown area to have true booths where you can sit down with friends and really spread out to study, chat, or share the paper. Pro-tip, they also serve cold nitro-brew." - CreativeMornings Grand Rapids

One of my favorite places to come have a coffee and get a little work done. Great atmosphere where I feel relaxed. It can get busy and there is not a ton of seating. BUT in the winter they do have warm little huts outside you can use when you purchase something. Overall I highly recommend stopping in…it was also about 3/4 of a mile walk from the hospital which is super handy if you are at the hospital a lot!

This was a lovely coffee shop. I got a berry flavored hot tea that was amazing. My husband wanted to buy the caramel sauce because his caramel latte was so good. They don't sell it, but if they ever start we will buy some. The fresh flowers on the tables were absolutely gorgeous!

Google
Delicious Rosemary Cappuccino… & amazing service!! Super busy inside, but the staff were very kind and extremely prompt in their wait times for drinks. What a cute little district with the bakery next door!

Hannah Goemmel

Google
One of the best coffee shops in Grand Rapids. Their olive oil cake is delicious, but also highly recommend grabbing a croissant next door and getting a cafe miel here. It’s usually busy so arrive early to grab a spot!

Fall in a cup! Apple pie 🥧 latte ☕️ with cold foam. So good! Great customer service! I also love the Orange 🍊 latte, Meil hot or iced, and the Matcha 🍵latte w/ oat milk of course 🥰😆

Google
Super friendly, attentive, and informative staff from start to end. When trying a new place I like to start with their espresso and then usually a pour-over. Best espresso I've had in a month! And they recommended I try an iced pour-over, which was also really good! In fact so good that I bought some of the beans (from Little Wolf). Booth and bar seating inside. Outside seating in the front and a little in the back.

Google
This review is long overdue, as Lyon St has been one of my most frequent go-tos over the past five years, which is saying a lot since going to new coffee shops is kind of one of my hobbies. Their coffee is quality (my pour over today was excellent, and the espresso shots, cortados, lattes, etc. that I’ve had in the past have hit the mark as well. Their location is pretty tough to beat (quiet-ish street for the area, and an impressive bakery and market next door along with some of other great shops). While you might struggle sometimes with finding seating, you can hardly blame a place for people wanting to be there!

one of my absolute favorite coffee places in grand rapids great, inclusive vibe. delicious hot coco

Yelp
Fun, cute, spacious place with great service! I stopped in for the first time and grabbed an iced vanilla latte with almond milk and was surprised at how quickly and kindly the service was even with a packed cafe! The latte was excellent! For someone needing a dairy alternative they offered Oat and Almond. The price was the same in comparison to all other places I have been too.

Ron B.

Yelp
A great place to hang out, comfortable seating, and the bakery right next-door allows for easy additions to your caffeinated beverage. Friendly service and I had a delicious latte. Appreciate the pointer from my local friend, Rob.

Jean S.

Yelp
Stopped at Lyon Street Cafe on Saturday and didn't realize they were having a fund raiser that day and it was packed. Very welcoming atmosphere and we didn't wait long even with the crowd that day. Dylan took our order and was so friendly we completely enjoyed our interaction. My Baclava Latte was maybe the best latte I've ever had. Their pasties looked amazing too. We'll definitely be back!!!

Eddie E.

Yelp
Basic yet elegant inside. There's not a ton to the place. It's inside of a neighborhood connected to a bakery and butchery and next to a market and pizza place. The menu is basic looking but it's a coffee shop so they can make anything with multiple flavors to choose from. The dirty chai I had was outstanding. The guy at the counter was friendly and we even talked about other coffee shops! They don't have their own baked goods but they carry quality ones (look next door!). Definitely need to go check this place out.

Ashley K.

Yelp
Stopped in today for the first time with a friend! Service was fast & staff was friendly. We both got the Carmel macchiatos - which were great. The inside was full of people studying/working - ambiance was calm. Such a cute setup outside with little heated huts to enjoy your coffee in! They do have a few food options in the display case as well. Or feel free to grab some bakery items from Nantucket next door & relax!

Jayson D.

Yelp
LOVE the little outdoor A-frames or, as I called them, cute little drinking huts! Purchase a snack and bevvie from the counter to receive a key that lets you enjoy your noms in one of their private A-frames. And fear not the cold!--each drinking hut has its own electric heater. What a fun thing to sip suds and nosh on a bakery treat across from a friendly face in the pleasant little drinking huts. I'd do it again and again!

Emily J.

Yelp
We loved our trip to Lyon Street Cafe! It was very spacious, with all sorts of groups there- people working, people studying, people just hanging out. If you wanted to beat the crowd, they also have shanties outside! We saw they had some yummy looking baked goods (but we didn't try any). Our drinks, however, were great! My fiancé was thrilled when he realized they had beer on tap, so that was what he went for, and I got a spicy mocha with oat milk. It was what I expected- good, a mocha with a little bit of kick. Definitely somewhere to check out if you're in the area!

Yelp
After working from literally all of Grand Rapids 4-5 star rated coffee shops in a span of five weeks, Lyn Street Cafe makes top three. Here's why: 1) Coffee: After ordering many lattes from many shops, Lyon Street Cafe's was the best brewed with the right amount of foam, richness and balance. 2) Space: It's simply designed with tables with outlets and strong wifi throughout. 3) Service: Staff were friendly! 4) Location: Just east of downtown and Medical Mile, it's on a street with several other local businesses worth visiting like Martha's Vineyard. If you love coffee and/or need a place to work, head to Lyon Street Cafe. Street parking is nearby.

Tran N.

Yelp
Lyon Street is becoming one of my favorite coffee shops! They've released their summer drinks which include (but is not limited to) strawberry matcha latte, mint latte, basil latte, orange hojicha latte, etc! Aside from their lattes, they also have cocktails as well! Definitely check it out :-)

Kylie C.

Yelp
Great coffee and treats. Chill vibe. Friendly staff. Get there early so you can grab a seat inside.

Danielle F.

Yelp
These folks obviously take their coffee seriously but what stands out is the service and professionalism even on very busy weekend mornings. Examples - they ask how to spell everyone's name ordering, they keep the drink order of expresso drinks exactly the ordering order even when it gets really long, they take time to explain tasting notes on the brews to each customer who asks, for "opinion" type questions multiple barista opinions are offered to the customer so they get a reflection. Many regulars here greeted with warmth but so are newbies. It's fun to watch the process of different kinds of coffee making. You could eat here or head to any of the adjacent shops in combo (I'm partial to combination with the bakery).

Mark S.

Yelp
Try the cafe miel it is one of the best coffee drinks I have ever had. Lyon Street is a great spot with excellent service!

Katy C.

Yelp
Lyon Street Cafe has several two-person greenhouses that you can sit in and enjoy a latte or do a bit of work. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to grab the last open one on a sunny winter day during COVID (currently no dine-in service in Michigan). I ordered an oat latte and he got a cappuccino. It was a little over $9 total for the two drinks. The girl taking my order was super polite and sweet and the drinks were made quickly. They have a pretty extensive drink menu and a few toast options. I chose to pick up a spinach and cheese bialy from Nantucket next door. The latte was ok but definitely not as good as my favorite latte from Kaffeine. It just wasn't as creamy as I was expecting. I would probably get something else next time, maybe a mocha or a tea latte. The greenhouse was very toasty warm inside! We actually ended up opening the door a crack to vent it. There's a heater inside that doesn't seem to have a way to adjust the output or temperature. There's no table inside, just two chairs, which made it a little difficult for working with a laptop. We just were there for a little under an hour to get a bit of work done and soak up some sun! The greenhouses are first come, first served and no reservations are required. Lyon Street Cafe shares a parking lot with Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, or there's plenty of street parking.

Kimberlie C.

Yelp
This cute little cafe is open from 7a-7p, and we love that! Their syrups have to be made in house, because that rosemary honey latte was dreamy! The citrus olive oil cake was pretty good (could've gone without the icing). Definitely a welcoming spot overall, located next to a local bakery and market!

Ashley M.

Yelp
This place is one of my favorite coffee shops in Grand Rapids. Super cute and trendy shop with great outdoor seating (right next to Nantucket). I love to grab a bagel or pastry at Nantucket then get my iced coffee next door at Lyon St Cafe. They have an amazing shaded outdoor space which they keep very nice with beautiful flowers. The staff is always very friendly. Can't say anything more about how great this place is!

Sinai P.

Yelp
I can't express how much I love Lyon Street Cafe. The bakery items from the Nantucket Bakery next door and the welcoming vibe with the warm welcoming lights is something I'm so glad to see every time I step my foot into the door. I visited 3+ times post-covid, and they have the little huts with small heaters in the winter, for people to stay contactless and enjoy their time together. I personally liked it very very much.

Dave S.

Yelp
Great place to get some work or studying done if you can find a place to sit. 9/10 times it's got every bench-style table full of one pretentious Gen Z hipster each. Not an efficient use of space. Can't say the service is particularly friendly for the price either.

Amanda C.

Yelp
Wonderful service and the most beautiful latte art. Perfectly balanced drinks and a beautiful neighborhood area

Sidnee K.

Yelp
I stopped by this cafe today because the weather is absolutely beautiful and I worked from home today. My husband and I are regulars at Martha's Vineyard and I spide this little cafe and thought maybe I can make this a regular haunt since it's a short walk away. It was my first time visiting the cafe and the space was bright and inviting. I asked the gentleman working if they sold cold beverages. He simply directed me to look at the menu that was placed on the counter. It would have been nice if he had made a suggestion or taken the opportunity to ask if this was my first visit, or if I liked tea or coffee. As someone that has worked in the service industry for many years, it's nice to engage with customers sometimes. I ordered a latte that was very delicious and I will be back again. Thanks!

Samrana B.

Yelp
Cute little cafe. Didn't seem to busy came around 7:30 on Friday morning and only one employee was working so there was a little wait. Definitely quiet and good space to come work from. Very friendly staff! I got the vanilla latte which was really good! There's a bakery next door which is fun and convenient.

Emma T.

Yelp
Good coffee and delicious baked goods. Lots of seating inside and outside. There is a parking lot that usually has spots. The staff is always friendly! This is a solid place to work or meet up with friends - and it so close to other tasty places.

Stefan B.

Yelp
Fantastic cup of coffee and delicious baked goods from Nantucket Bakery next door (you must try both). Seating can be a little tight but we have always been welcomed to share a table with someone else, as is the Michigander way. Pop in on a rainy day for a warm-up!

Dominic A.

Yelp
So I've been in this COFFEE shop a few times and Ive never received good service if you are the owner of this place remind your staff that its a COFFEE shop they depend on customers. If you are going to make customers wait while you empty out a bus tub of dirty dishes, at the very least WASH your HANDS after. The selections of beverages are abysmal, the coffee itself is definitely worth the money, but you don't have a choice in sizes. The shop itself is okay, it's definitely not designed for single people to hang out and drink coffee while studying, for long periods of time. Nor is it designed with single customer's in mind, get more 2 tops and less bench sitting for 4. Over all I wouldn't not recommend this place if you want to stop and get a quick cup of good coffee. PRO TIP order you beverage (s) then go to Nantucket next door get your pastries or Martha's hit the deli and by the time you get back your coffee may be ready but then again it may not be..

Talia L.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop on the corner with a full bakery next door , got a lavender latte with vanilla and oat milk. Yummy. Good coffee. Service was good and fast. Friendly people. Would recommend to anyone looking to chill and have some alone time or get out with friends. I sat outside . Will b back

Sydney K.

Yelp
The perfect place for a coffee date! I had a cortado, which was great, and priced well at $3ish. It was smooth and rich! I also got one of the vegan brownies and it was incredible! I think I would go back just for another brownie, honestly :) The seating situation is open booths, but it was kind of disappointing that almost every single one of them (no exaggeration) was occupied by a single person on their laptop. Rude. So I had to sip my cortado in one of the outdoor teepee igloos... and was pleasantly surprised at how cute and cozy they were. I kind of hope they stay up even in the warmer months!

Terry E.

Yelp
Everything about Lyon Street Cafè is a win for me. For starters, it's gorgeous and impeccably clean. The service is wonderful. And the coffee is soooo good! Oh and the goodies are insanely beautiful and yummy!! And they take ApplePay.... which their neighbors do not. For me that's a must.

Aliscia K.

Yelp
Good coffee, super cute shop. Would be a good place to get some work done or meet up with friends.

Kyle V.

Yelp
Finally tried this place this morning and really enjoyed it. Around noon on a Sunday and it was packed. People were waiting for tables but the staff was extremely friendly and quick with their drinks. I have no idea what the treat was that I ordered but it had peanut butter and was very rich but extremely tasty. The hot chocolate was presented perfectly and tasted great. This cafe is great for people working on their laptops and studying while enjoying some drinks. We will definitely be back!

Hannah T.

Yelp
The place is quaint hangout spot with and a great little outdoor area in the back. Free wifi and assorted seating dependent on your occasion, work vs meet up with a friend. I was a little surprised at the sparse selection and lack of interaction with baristas. I would have expected friendly chit chat, a warm welcome or a suggestion of a menu selection. We were assisted immediately, it took longer than expected to hear my name called but the latte was worth that wait! Quite delicious! Overall a good experience. Although it is not what I anticipated walking in I'll be back, because it has a good vibe, and perhaps it was just an off day?! We all have those, right?!

Mariah G.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops in Grand Rapids. Cozy in the winter and on rainy days. Perfect location. Free parking. Love the atmosphere, oh and the coffee! Great place to work/study or meet friends. Super fast free wifi.

C C.

Yelp
If you get your coffee it is a great coffee. I walked out after waiting for 15 minutes for a Doppio Espresso w/ only 2 other clients ahead of me. Both girls serving made themselves a drink while they made me wait. Customer service attitude needs improvement.

Samuel B.

Yelp
Nice place, very busy and popular. Coffee good but not to die for. Would definitely return! Delicious food too!

Iheartgrandrapids I.

Yelp
Lyon Street Cafe has been rolling with to-go only orders since the beginning of the outbreak, and they have the cutest setup at their door. Although we miss hanging out inside their shop, we aren't complaining about the new cozy greenhouses you can sit in outside! (Featuring pastries from Nantucket Baking Co )⁣

Danielle F.

Yelp
Lyon Street is one of those little neighborhood gems that I don't think I could survive without! Since moving to GR I've spent a lot of time in the Heritage Hills neighborhood and this little café is one of my favorite weekend spots to grab a tea and then head next door for a bite to eat. What I really enjoy about Lyon is their diverse selection of teas and coffees and They are always made to order! They also have an very good tiramisu if you are ever there with a sweet tooth :)

Lily M.

Yelp
This place is a great example of the hipster Grand Rapids! Inside there is a lot of natural wood and has a lot of natural light. There's also outdoor seating to a really quiet road. Overall the service was really excellent and they gave great suggestions. The coffee was really great and the atmosphere was awesome! I would definitely recommend stopping by and there is even a cute little bakery next-door.

Faith S.

Yelp
I had an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. It was good, but not the best I've had. It was also $6.50, which I thought was a bit overpriced. Other than that, the coffee shop was cute and made for a nice place to do some work. There were lots of tables to sit at, including outside, which was nice.

Samantha W.

Yelp
Love the Lyon Street Cafe! It's really my favorite spot to work for a few hours. The cafe' has excellent coffee and ambiance. They have figured it out! Customers may be gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan but it doesn't mean we don't like tasty baked goods. Thanks, Lyon Street Cafe! They're beautiful as well as tasty. Enjoy!

Nayara L.

Yelp
Found this place by accident after stopping by Nantucket next door. Nice atmosphere with lots of natural light. Wooden tables and floor which is nice and trendy. Most importantly, their coffee is delicious. I had their batch Colombian coffee which tasted real good. My husband got an Ethiopian coffee (tier 2) which is basically a slow pour over coffee. It was amazing. So smooth and mild and delicious. The staff were also really kind and provided good service. Only feedback I'd give is that the cream they provided curdled in my coffee. I don't know if their cream is not heat-stable or if it was aging. I think sometimes acid in coffee can cause the cream to curdle faster. Didn't taste bad in my coffee but just an observation. I definitely don't penalize them for it though! Their coffee was for sure amazing.

Lara P.

Yelp
It's hard to believe I haven't reviewed Lyon Street Cafe before. If I'm in GR and can squeeze it in, I always love to stop in. Great vibe. Indoor + outdoor seating. Coffee+Matcha+cocktails+baked goods (some vegan too!) Kind and mellow staff. What more could you ask for?

Kristen D.

Yelp
I absolutely love Lyon Street! They are tucked away in a neighborhood which may seem like a strange concept, however I think it really sets them apart. Their interior is beautifully decorated with rustic brick painted white and string lighting. They carry MadCap coffee and Four Barrell coffee out of San Francisco. Their baristas also use a top of the line La Radzecco espresso machine. They have a variety of baked goods, also including "Rise" Grand Rapids gluten free products. I highly recommend anyone to try because it is not only excellent Wave 3 coffee (step aside Starbucks), but also a very pleasant environment.

Jenny H.

Yelp
Phenomenal coffee. Fabulous barista humans. Delicious treats. Vibe is on point. This is my go-to coffee shop every time I visit GR.

Tim W.

Yelp
The three best things about this place are: The decor, people watching, and its location next to what I think is the best bakery in Michigan (Nantucket). It has a ridiculously cool finish out. They offer a wide variety of what I would consider craft coffee. The staff seemed overworked and disinterested for the most part. It took 15 minutes for me to get a basic americano coffee which is way too long for something that isn't a specialty drink. Its a cool hipster vibe and the location is great. The service needs to be more efficient to make the experience better. With better and more efficient service I would rate this business much higher.

Stacey M.

Yelp
Favorite coffee shop in GR! Everything is made to order & they have a wide variety of coffee and tea. It's light and airy on the inside and very clean. The staff is so friendly & always ready to help! It does take a bit to make the drinks, but I promise it's well worth the wait! It's not always easy to get a spot to sit with a group. However, I haven't had any issues working solo. Every one here is so friendly! My favorite and go to drink is the {almond milk} lavender earl grey tea latte. Definitely a must try!!

Ananya R.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and a lot of choices for quick bites and deserts. Great place to go with friends and alone to work as well. I loved the citrus and olive oil cake, fruit and almond crossiant. Will definitely visit again.

Stacey A.

Yelp
If you're looking for the perfect place to work in a hip, warm, relaxed atmosphere, you've found your haven! What I love most about this spot is the reliable wi-fi and big front windows. The staff are kind and accommodating and the baked goods are locally sourced from the bakery next door. The mocha with almond milk did not disappoint!

Kevin T.

Yelp
I ordered the macchiato and the vanilla latte, it was decent for its price. It took a while for both of my drinks to be made, but the wait wasn't too long where you would want to just leave haha. My friend got the hot chocolate and she liked it very much. I just hate the fact that the design on my latte was a bit ruined, because of me. :p The macchiato was in a big cup for some reason which didn't make sense when it was barely filled. But other than that, I'd say my experience was decent and I'd give it another try!

Anna P.

Yelp
This place is always SO busy! I don't think I could ever set up a work spot here because I've stood around for a log time and never gotten a seat. However, it's close to my house. They have tons of yummy pastries and sweets from Nantucket and their coffee is awesome! Only place I'm aware of that does nitro coffee. So good! They don't have a good cream/sugar set up though. I usually get cold coffees here so simple syrup is almost necessary and it's never out and you have to ask for creamer which I find annoying. But it is what it is. Overall, as far as the coffee is concerned, it's my second favorite coffee place in Grand Rapids!

Deb M.

Yelp
I'll keep this review short and sweet. Sweet, just like their dessert counter. Amazing selection, from cupcakes to bars, to dark chocolate covered goodness to mousse, I want to eat my way through the entire selection. They have coffees, teas, fancy foo-foo drinks and a good bottled drink selection as well. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in Grand Rapids. It truly is a hidden gem just outside of a residential area. I am so glad I found it!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
LOVE their cafe miel. The galette and quiche from sister restaurant Nantucket make for a solid little breakfast.
