Lyons Den Power Yoga is a welcome escape in this crazy, loud city (don't get me wrong, I <3 NY, but sometimes I need a little quiet and a lot of yoga). I'm new to yoga, but LDPY was never intimidating for me. In each class I've taken, there have been students of all levels—someone in headstand on the mat to my left, someone in Child's Pose on my right, and me somewhere in the middle, sweating like a maniac. The room is kept at a warm but not "OMG I'm going to die" temperature, so you will definitely work up a healthy sweat whether you opt for the 60-minute or the 90-minute class. There is a shower in the women's locker room, which is nice, and everything is clean, warm and inviting (including the owners' puppy, Josie, who has a little home built into the reception area—so cute).
So far I have taken classes with Bethany (the co-founder and one of my longtime favorite instructors at SoulCycle), Jessica and Terri, and all of them have been fantastic. The pace is always active and athletic, and I somehow leave feeling both invigorated and delightfully exhausted.
I could go on, but go try it for yourself. Lyons Den offers a $79 new student discount which is good for a month of unlimited classes. I did that and most definitely got my money's worth (and I'm feeling strong and amazingly calm during this time of year). I hope you love it as much as I do!
