Lyric Hyperion Theater & Cafe

I've watched so many shows here, and each time, I’m never disappointed. I always watch with a smile on my face because it's such a fun experience. Seeing different artists showcase their craft makes it even more exciting.

I never saw any part of a theater. I was there on a Saturday morning while waiting to get my truck serviced down the block. The young lady behind the counter was nice and helpful. The outdoor area was quiet and nice. I think the decor and seating could use an update, but all-in- all it was a nice experience.

Awesome theater and great staff. I happened to be in the area and saw there was a comedy/puppet show that night. I wasn't going to miss something like that so I bought a ticket at the last minute. I had a wonderful time enjoying the show and made a new friend who lives in Silver Lake. He shared the area's history with me while we waited for the show. It's a very comfortable venue for everyone to enjoy a good performance. Parking can be a little rough but if you don't mind walking a few blocks, you can find a spot on the main street.

I went to The Shared Experience show on Wednesday night, and I laughed so hard. It was $5 for the first show at 8:00. I had such a great time I stayed for the second show at 9:30 too! The atmosphere is chic, the drinks are cheap, and the comedians are on fire. Some of the best improv in LA. I've seen a bunch of these comedians other places, but there is something about this room that made the show electric. I also like the little patio area outside the theater. Cute place to have coffee or a beer in the patio. I go there to meet my gal pals every couple of weeks or to chill with my dog. I finally caught one of the shows at the small theater and it’s a cool little place. A lot of small theaters don’t have concessions so that’s appreciated. Staff is always lovely and attentive.

love the vibe and character of this place…theatre, coffee, drinks, friendly. i found this place just finding different stairs to walk, but will be back.

Another great show hosted by FernGully! All the DUO improvisers were funny. In every show, you see something different. It's very enjoyable to watch.

An intimate theater with an ever-changing roster of musicians, comedians, improv actors, open-mics, classes and more. Get up close and personal with your favorite artists and entertainers. Seats are comfortable and all have a good view. A sweet venue with an outdoor patio for relaxing before the show and meeting performers after. A good bar serving drinks (alcoholic and non) baked goods and snacks.

We went here last night to see some comedy complements of Mollie Merkel. The show was a lot of fun and the cafe is sweet and full of awesome people. I highly recommend and will go back next month to see who else Mollie has lined up.

Went to see Andrew dismukes! He was hilarious he is great live was really exciting to see this SNL icon live! I wish they had food and coffee I guess it's earlier would be awesome to try that but nothing was available! Really small intimate venue reminds me of magic castle small rooms up close show! Hope to see another show there!

Came for an event. It's best to come early if you're coming for a show. It's a small venue / theatre in a high traffic neighborhood. Parking is an issue. Popcorn and cookies were delicious but not as good as my wine haha. I had a great experience and would come back for an event or show at this location. Found street parking but it was a walk and I had company. Be mindful if you're walking alone.

I drive past this place all the time, and I finally decided to stop in and catch the show Three Cults Walk Into A Bar. Parking was a breeze, and the bar service was quick with plenty of great local options. As for the show, it had me laughing, crying, and completely overwhelmed--in the best possible way! I highly recommend it. 5/5, a MUST-SEE!

enjoyed seeing the Cambridge Footlights here in September! A good theater. The posted capacity was 96 seats, but we only saw about 60 seats. No assigned seating. When they open the doors, rush in to grab the only table at the back of the room! With fewer than 100 seats, performers need not be union members. The courtyard was quiet and comfortable. Glass panes excluded wind and traffic noise. Some good drinks

Went here for a comedy show, easy to find, the folks that work there are friendly! I didn't get any food/drink but the vibes of the place were relaxed and fun.

I was here for the first time for a show. Cute little corner bar/café. I saw the most luscious looking croissants behind the glass so ofc I had to order one...or two. I got the plain croissant and spinach croissant. PLEASE I hope they never change their supplier. Literally the most flakiest, butteriest croissants this side of the Atlantic. The bathrooms were clean. It's a chill vibe. Would come again to work and chill to see how it is during the day. Parking is street so be prepared to Uber/bike/scoot, or you can drive around ten hours to find a spot.

Small comedy theater that's open most of the day for coffee and such. Good place to do some writing or catch a show.

Cool little spot for an intimate show. They serve some cafe food and beer and wine. The theater chairs were a tad uncomfy but other than that its a cool place to see local performers.

The Lyric Hyperion is back! This small neighborhood gem of a coffee shop/ performance space on the corner of Lyric/Hyperion (thus the name) in the heart of storied Silver Lake has made a triumphant return. After many previous (and sometimes bizarre) proprietors (and a lot of bad coffee), I'm happy to report it's finally found it's groove with the new owners! In the past one never knew if they were open or closed. Now they have set, and reliable hours. From comedy acts, eclectic shows, kids improv, live music, and open mics, there's something for everyone here. If you're looking for a mid-day open mic, they've got it. If you're looking for late night comedy, they've got it. If you're looking for place to write or to enjoy a cup of joe with a friend, and a delicious pastry (or a beer or glass of wine) - they've got that, too. Seating is ample! You can hang out on their spacious patio, or inside the cafe and theatre (if a show is not going on). The employees are delightful. They provide a sort of "Cheers" vibe where they all remember your name. A few standouts: Sarafina runs a tip top ship! She's super organized and welcoming. She anticipates your every need before you can even ask (including fresh brewed coffee and remembering what kind of milk you put in your coffee). Mose, a movie buff, has a super chill vibe and is purveyor of great conversation. I could go on and on, but if you're looking for a unique spot that boasts a 90s coffee house vibe (complete with booze, entertainment, outlets, board games, books and free wifi), look no further than the good people at the Lyric Hyperion. Note: Ample, free street parking on Lyric and Griffith Park.

They weee ok . I had a coffee and a pastry and was there for a while so I got the chicken sandwich, it wasn't great. It was small and lacked flavor. But, the guy working was amazing! Super friendly and nice. Not sure it was enough to get me back

Excellent water. You can ask the employees for water and they offer bottled water or this pictured tap water with ice. It is a good-sized plastic cup with the perfect amount of coldness. I recommend this water experience.

My son started taking kids improv classes a month ago at this fantastic theater. In addition to my son learning a TON and having a blast, I got to sit in the cozy coffee shop, enjoying fabulous lattes made by Patrick. It's a warm, friendly atmosphere perfect for working on your latest project or talking with a friend. There are so many wonderful things happening in this space, you're bound to find something you love. Highly recommended!

Great shows, cool vibe, but very strange that the bistro doesn't have a single vegetarian sandwich. To not have anything for non-meat-eaters in LA in 2022 feels like a intentional message that vegetarians and their friends should go for the show but don't stick around to spend money at the cafe. It's an odd choice the new owners made. Hopefully they update the menu in the near future to be a little more inclusive. PS: FYI this isn't the old Lyric Theater, it is new owners with a completely new menu (and awesome renovated patio!) as of Spring, 2022. So all of the reviews prior to now are from the old theater and old cafe. Completely new menu!

This was my first time here to see a performance. What a cute little theatre! I love the patio area and they have a nice selection of food and beverage to enjoy before the performances. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as parking but apparently was very lucky to get a nice nearby spot. I love that they checked vaccination status before entry. I know it's not a perfect thing but it put my mind at ease. I didn't have any actual food but the glass of cabernet was great and I appreciated being able to enjoy it inside the theatre. I look forward to returning!

Great place for comedy shows that is low priced. For packed shows they will lay out cushions on the floor for audience to sit on. The one-person and variety shows I've seen here have all been good; even work in progress shows. This is the place where I first got to see Ramy Youssef. The last work in progress show I saw had a weird set up because the large piano was blocking my view of the screen.

This review is for the venue not the cafe because we didn't eat. There is free neighborhood street parking on Lyric. There is metered parking on Hyperion. We got a great spot just a few houses away. We went to see Scott Thompson from Kids In The Hall do his Buddy Cole Monologues show. Bought super cheap tickets online. Easy check in outside the cafe. We sat in the back. It's a very small place so all seats were fabulous! Scott was HILARIOUS! Go see him if you can. Great show. Thanks Lyric Hyperion Cafe!

I've never had a yelp account but I had to make one for the new Lyric. Just... bad. I'm a previous customer but it's been a min, and I had, hands-down, the worst latte of my life. There are two other cafes within walking distance (Cafe Nido and Standing Egg) - try them. Also, they open at 9am? Just odd.

Location: It is near the intersection of Hyperion Ave and Lyric Ave. There are meters nearby. Free parking on Lyric Ave. The People: Friendly. People come to work, and eat. The Drinks: - Iced cold brew: Good! The Food: - Grilled Cheese Sandwich with tomatoes and basil: Really good. Work/Study: Good spot to study. Moderately quiet. Decent outdoor area to study. The Venue: More outdoor seating than indoor. They do have events in the afternoon/evening so that might be worth checking out. NOTE: THEY HAVE A FREE DRINK OFFER UPON CHECK-IN BUT IT IS NOT TRUE--it is outdated, so ignore that. Upshot: This is probably, in some ways, the equivalent of Echo Park's "Stories Books Cafe" minus the books. A solid option to do multiple things in Silver Lake.

Come for the Theatre!! Lyric Hyperion is a cute hipster cafe, bar, and theatre for all of us artsy actors!! Food is basic and pricey, but sometimes simple is good. I got the Veggie Sandwich for a pricey 9.85 w/tax. Quick Tips: -Free small drink w/ Yelp Check in! I don't drink, but if you ask nicely they might make you a drink with alcohols -Neighborhood and Street parking only. -Lots of dog friendly patio seating!! -two 2tops inside -An actual black box theatre inside -Most nights they have shows and/or open mics!! See website for upcoming events! -La Colombe coffee! Taste 3/5 The most basic of basic veggie sandwiches, but alas, it was made with love. Sauteed peppers and onions with lettuce and hummus in between two pieces of toasted white bread. Price 3/5 $10 for a simple sandwich is pushing it, but the atmosphere and comedy is well worth coming here for. Service 5/5 Barista is great. Fantastic service.

I have to admit, I didn't come at an exactly bustling hour, so I can't really comment on what the atmosphere is here during the busy hours of the week. On a Saturday afternoon, though, it's guaranteed chill. The food is good, a bit pricey, but also on the healthy side, with vegan and vegetarian options like veggie bowls and scrambles, quinoa salads, and plenty of chicken, turkey, and grilled cheese sandwiches for those of you not watching your waists or fat intake. They have plenty of cookies, pastries, and even bottled booze for you're early-morning/ midday alcoholic needs. If you love your java, you've come to the right place. If you're not too worried about the sugar content in your coffee- and if you've been to Starbucks, you shouldn't be- I suggest trying their Boom Trip, which is basically an iced mocha on crack. (Think super-rich chocolate milk with caffeine in it). The exterior patio is sunny and spacious, and the inside is dark and cool, if a bit cramped. Not a bad joint for some good coffee, though.

Amazing food amazing service! And amazing employees. Only downside is your food will be gone so fast because it's just that good! After the first bite I wanted to take a picture to post it but I couldn't stop! Definitely stop by and say hi, get some great food and hopefully you can get tickets to see there shows too!! That breakfast bowl is something special. Oh man. Quinoa, black beans, avocado hummus, fried egg, and red pepper flake. Add feta cheese - trust me. (*sigh* And YES, I know quinoa is pronounced "keen-wah"). SO good.

Nice atmosphere , good crowd, lovely patio. Good beer in cans. 4 stars instead of 5 because that was the worst cookie I have ever had. Tasted like toasted wonder bread with chocolate chips on it. Took one bite and tossed it in the trash. Enjoy the show don't get the cookie.

Under new management but this place has always been pretty good. Prices have gone down a tad which is a plus. Wait times vary. Usually not the place to hit up if you are in the a hurry. Ingredients are fresh and the portions for food are a desirable size to keep you full without the heaviness. I've had bagels, sandwiches, salads, side salads, teas, and coffee. Pretty much can't go wrong here with taste or quality of food. They offer indoor and outdoor seating plus free WIFI!!!

This is a great place to come work, grab a bite to eat, and a enjoy a good cup of coffee. There is a small indoor space and a large outdoor space, but plenty of outlets to plug in your laptop if needed. The owner is really friendly and the food is great and decently priced ( also they only have vegetarian food now, which may be you're jam or not). I'm excited to see they also have beer and wine now and I'm excited to come back for drag queen brunch on Sunday! Endless mimosas and a drag show sounds like a perfect day to spend your Sunday funday! Overall great neighborhood spot and I'm happy with the changes by the new ownership in the past couple of years :)

Cute small & intimate venue. Probably fits around 30 people? Once you walk in there's a small cafe that offers beer, wine, food, snacks, pastries, and non alcoholic drinks. Food was fairly cheap and offered options like grilled cheese and a hummus plate for about $5. There's also an outdoor patio for people to hang out. Check in was easy and staff was very friendly. Pretty cool how they also let you bring in food that you purchase on site inside the show. PARKING: very difficult to find. It's street parking only so I would recommend coming early. Super funky venue for offbeat entertainment. You can enjoy everything from classic clowning to unusual character-driven performances. There's a large outdoor space to enjoy before the show, as well as a petite cafe with a few snacks, teas and coffee drinks. They have an amazing event calendar on their website that can let you know what's coming up. Want to see a show? Everyone I've seen perform here is off-the-wall talented and I've loved the four shows I've checked out here. You won't see entertainment like this anywhere else in town. Skip their snacks. I spent $7 on a lavender latte that tasted like a hot dog, so definitely make sure to grab a bite before you come. Pro Tips: - Limited street parking, so arrive early to find parking! - Try the Mexican restaurant around the corner if you're looking for a meal before the show

Reviewing the Cafe/daytime part of the place. They were clearly having a v off day, as from other reviews I expected a decent experience, but it was far from. Guy working the front was very passive. They had a new menu that he didn't know much about, and no prices were listed. They had no pastries at all, and when we asked about it he said their pastry people stopped returning their calls.. The 3 of us got toasts. My friends avocado toast was the smallest avo toast I've seen in LA, my PB & banana - again very small and average. Pretty disappointing for a $7 toast.. There are wayyyyy better spots in this area, soooo they need to level up or something.

This place allows food into shows. They closed their kitchen and were only selling alcohol, so we got food delivered before the show started. Then we find out they wouldn't let us in with our outside food. I should note that their liquor license requires that they sell food, sooooo. tl;dr we were starving, got jerked around, and missed our show. We didn't bother to ask for refunds because I'm sure we wouldn't have received them. The staff were all very apologetic, and I was not at all upset with them. I reserve my utter contempt for the manager who refused to exercise any discretion when he obviously could've done so.

Yum!! First time I visited this place and I have to say it was sooo good! I am also VERY happy they were open late night. AANNNNNDD the comedy event happening was pretty cool! Try this place out if you're near!

If only it could be as easy as walking up to your local barista, greeting them with a "hi how are you today?" & then swiping your card for a delicious iced oat milk latte. NOPE! Instead you walk in and are awkwardly directed to use your phone to scan a QR Code, as if we aren't on our phones enough, and scroll through to make your order directly in front of the barista- actually felt like a Larry David moment. After all that all I can say is the latte was beyond bad, I think probably top 3 worst lattes I've ever had. The only reason I'm not giving 1 star is because the 2 people working were kind. Have a great day!

Love the outdoor seating but the service and the actual drinks were not as great. The only sweetener they had was stevia and the worker also forgot about my order and gave me a medium instead of a large. The food was average- nothing amazing but not terrible either. Nice to sit outside in the mornings to do work or brunch

In an effort to explore Silver Lake, I chose to hit up Lyric Hyperion Cafe, at the corner of Lyric and Hyperion, no less, on a Thursday morning for some coffee. Their two employees are very friendly! They let me do the Yelp check-in for a free coffee. Hooray! The inside is dark and cramped, so I sat on the sunny and spacious patio outside. There's WiFi and outlets, so it's good to work. It's very chill and quiet, with many benches and chairs and surrounded by plants. I did get eaten alive by all the bugs, so if you're going to sit outside by the greenery, wear a jacket or bug repellent. It's secluded, so don't come here if you're looking for more hustle and bustle, or more of a crowd (like I like). They also do stand-up comedy and music shows in their theater in the back, which you can apparently rent out as well. Calendar's on their website and Facebook.

Love this place! But they need to have a barista and a cook on deck for meal hours. my co worker and I come in for a quick coffee on our short break. with only one person behind the counter we end up waiting ten minutes for our coffees and almost every time our order is wrong because the poor guy is taking care of so many tasks, cooking food and making coffees and lattes, and ringing people up at the registers. We then don't have time to correct him when our orders are wrong because it took so long in the first place. So it's a real bummer. We love lyric. This place is awesome and chill but with slow and unreliable service we don't come here as much as we would like. We love it. Please hire a cook and barista. If you've got no where to be and want to hang out on one of the loveliest patios in silverlake then make lyric and go to spot.

THIS PLACE IS THE FREAKING BEST! They are the epitome of a neighborhood vibe! Feels like old Silverlake or what i image it to be like back in the day. A very casual fun place that is affordable. They have such character here and the venue feels homey! They have a rad little patio and the inside is small but can fit a nice crowd. We went to the show series " We Still Like You" and it was about the most ridiculous thing you did and when they finished, we yelled " we still like you!" It was a blast! The crew is friendly and welcoming! I cant wait to go back for Drag brunch! Go if you need a cheap pick me up or just because its super fun.

This place is so cute! Great patio vibe for working and hanging out. They have a good variety of coffee/tea drinks, alcoholic drinks, and snacks! I was especially happy to find out they have a sunflower butter substitute for peanut butter sandwiches for people (like me) with a nut allergy :)

Stopped by out here at around 10 am and found a nice and secluded cafe in the area. Got to try the avocado toast with egg on top and it was absolutely delicious! Their signature drink, the boom trip, was really strong compared to other cold brews I have tried. I was told they also had theater productions and comedic performances at night so definitely will be coming back to check those out!

I don't know how this place has so many positive reviews... I've come several times to have s bite to eat or coffee before I see my chiropractor across the street and the service is always TERRIBLE. The guy who's always working on Friday afternoons won't even say hello, or look you in the eye, or acknowledge you. He was texting while I was ordering this time. I ordered a cappuccino.... It's actually laughable how he set it on the corner for me to come collect it myself. I'll add a photo, please enjoy a giggle. Sure, it has free wifi, and it's conveniently located by my chiropractor so I'll probably resort to coming here again, but if the staff or owner actually reads this: FIRE YOUR FRIDAY STAFF. They wouldn't know how to offer service even if you showed them a PowerPoint.

Awesome place. Great coffee, great food, great atmosphere. But the Lyric Hyperion Theatre Cafe has a secret. This establishment hath reached deep into the mysteries beyond the veils of time/space/existence to forge an item not even ancient myth dare describe. This impossible alchemy I speak of is known only as: THE BOOM TRIP. Caffeine and fancy dessert in a cup. Some may call it a hazelnut chocolate concoction. I call it LIFE. Legend has it that a Tiramisu and gourmet mocha partook in the physical act of love thus conceiving this liquid offspring whom has arrived to be the savior of us all. Save us, Boom Trip. All hail the Boom Trip. In Boom Trip we trust.

Wonderful, intimate venue with very nice cafe. OK, the wine pour might be a little chintzy, but really, I didn't come here for that. Have seen Songwriters Square http://bit.ly/SFAl9j (in fact there's one tonight), and over the weekend I saw John Ennis premiere Love Buckets which was great fun -- including a nice appearance by Dave Foley. Classes by the venerable UCB are held here sometimes, too. It's a nice little theatre, comfortable and with plenty of 'good ghosts.' The cafe (outside patio or indoors) is a real treat and should be on your list of things to try. With so many interesting options in the area, The Lyric Hyperion is perfectly situated at the corner of, well, Lyric and Hyperion!

Since November this quaint coffee shop has had new owners and I must say their sandwiches and coffee are to die for. Had the Lyric sandwich which is vegetarian and I almost peed in my pants, it was so good. It's smothered with a tasty hummus, topped with loads of shredded carrots, oregano and comes with a lemon zest sauce. I can't wait to go back. My beau got the turkey blue sandwich (can't remember the exact name ) but that was just as delicious. It has a blue cheese spread with thick slices of turkey, cranberries and an apricot spread (Dies). I of course had to try a red velvet cupcake which is mini and an explosion in your mouth. Sigh- I think i'm in love. The owners are very friendly which made this place all the more better. Last gushing complement- their coffee is just as good as their sandwiches. Best coffee i've had since i've moved here. I can't wait to annoy the owners with my presence :D

Still sitting in here while I review this, the free wifi works great! Haha. Didn't seem to have a big selection of drinks but I think you can special request. The girl at the counter was nice and patient as I was trying to decide what to get. Got an iced mocha that was just sweet enough so that I could not taste the bitterness of the coffee. The thing that got me was that prices were really steep for a coffee shop. $5 for my drink?! Only on desparate occassions. The girl was really nice in bringing my cup to the table and also got me a cup of water when I asked. Most people who came here had their books or laptops. A very cute place with a patio that you can enjoy some LA sun. I stayed inside because I did not need to get any darker.

This place is more like 3 stars. Bump up 1 star 'cuz I like their outside patio area. Perfect for chit chatting with a friend or two. Got a iced blended vanilla hazelnut latte. It was alright. Spinach quiche was so-so and my friend didn't like the $3 mini red velvet cupcake. Service was good.
