The 5 Best Hostels in Montreal (Updated 2025)

"I found this massive hostel (nearly 500 beds) to be a social hub — it has a rooftop terrace, two jacuzzis, a basement bar with nightly activities open from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., a café, and free (though uninspiring) breakfast. It's about a 10-minute walk to Old Montreal and close to the Latin Quarter and Festival District, but note there is often a 2–3 night minimum during some months. Rooms are super clean and range from female-only dorms to private apartments, all with en suite bathrooms; I liked the pod-like beds with curtains, outlets, and lights for privacy, though the mattresses felt more like gym mats and weren't very comfortable. Despite that, the friendly staff, plentiful activities, and strong social vibe make it a great place to meet other travelers." - Matthew Kepnes

Very clean room! Love the fact they have curtain to make sure people have privacy in the shared dorm. Very nice rooftop patio with 2 hot tubs and great view. Location is unbeatable, close to most of the things that Montreal has to offer for a first time visitor like me. I stayed 10 days and had an unbelievably great time in the city. Con: This hostel doesn't feel particularly social. But the people in the city are open and friendly enough for me to ignore this...

Love this hostel. The dorm beds are sturdy so you won’t feel other people moving. Works great for light sleepers like me. Excellent location too. In my 3 nights stay i never had to take the transit. Staff are amazing and helpful! They provide towel (unlike other hostels) but you have to bring your own lock and toiletries. And i love the rooftop jacuzzis.

One of the most impressive bed setups I've had at a hostel. Spacious bed for a 6ft 1 guy, a couple little cubbies and shelves to organize your stuff. Nice big space underneath the bunk bed to store your bags. Bathroom in the room, and also several located on the floor you can use. I chose to shower outside the room because the main restroom wasn't being used at all and looked pretty clean. Help my hostel mates have one less person to possibly wait on. Staff was terrific and friendly throughout my stay. The comedy show downstairs was a fun activity. The location may scare some people off. It's just off a busy street with a few sketch people walking around. But the police are around and keeping an eye out, at least when I was walking day and night. It's close to the metro and the university nearby which I thought was a plus.

I stayed here recently and was not disappointed with my choice. The staff was super friendly. My room was comfortable and extremely clean. There are laundry facilities. The neighborhood is lively with lots of things to do. It's a short walk to the Berri-UQAM metro making it easy to get anywhere in the city in a short time. There is an IGA marche on St Catherine if you need anything. I am a solo traveler and felt super safe. Zero complaints.

My boyfriend and I stayed here when vacationing from the states. The place is very aesthetically appealing! We had plenty of room in our 1 bed bedroom with kitchenette. They have a downstairs bar that had some shows going on when we were there. The staff is very friendly! We stayed 2 nights and then moved to a hotel because the prices go up during the weekends of course. But we ended up liking our stay here more than our hotel!

Perfect stay and very friendly staff. The location is terrific and so are the rooms. They even accommodated a last-minute date change, even though it was inside the nonrefundable window. Highly recommend staying here!

I booked this hostel at the last minute — I hadn’t really planned this vacation or the long weekend. But from the very beginning, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and cleanliness at the reception. The interior design was also quite nice. The staff were very polite and kind. They offer various activities to keep guests entertained, so it’s easy to meet people and not feel bored. There’s also helpful information about the city, including a map showing cultural spots and estimated travel or walking times — that was really useful. And the biggest bonus? The rooftop jacuzzi! I didn’t even know it existed until I noticed a lot of people heading to the 5th floor. I decided to check it out — and there it was. Honestly, everything was great. I’m not even sure what they could improve. Excellent experience !

Overall observations: Very nice hostel. Organized. Clean. Clean! Mostly quiet. Well-spaced. Excellent bed/cube space. Fast internet. Nice staff. Close to metro, shops, grocery, restaurants, and old town. Fantastic layout for a hostel suite. I've traveled around the world but this is the first hostel with an in room desk and full kitchen. Unfortunately, during my visit, a suite-mate spent hours in the bathroom and there were no other available on the floor. The only drawback of in-suite vanities. And, suite-mates kept turning off the air in the heat in the summer months. Just for awareness, dance parties happen so you do hear pounding on the ceiling at night if you're on the fourth floor... Would I recommend and stay here again? Yes.
