The 5 Best Hostels in Montreal (Updated 2025)

"I found this massive hostel (nearly 500 beds) to be a social hub — it has a rooftop terrace, two jacuzzis, a basement bar with nightly activities open from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., a café, and free (though uninspiring) breakfast. It's about a 10-minute walk to Old Montreal and close to the Latin Quarter and Festival District, but note there is often a 2–3 night minimum during some months. Rooms are super clean and range from female-only dorms to private apartments, all with en suite bathrooms; I liked the pod-like beds with curtains, outlets, and lights for privacy, though the mattresses felt more like gym mats and weren't very comfortable. Despite that, the friendly staff, plentiful activities, and strong social vibe make it a great place to meet other travelers." - Matthew Kepnes

Theres a lot of personal space available inside the room with curtains for extra privacy!! The receptionist are also very helpful. Emma provided some really good suggestions on things / restaurants to go around Montreal and they were good! Gotta say tho, the area does look a little suspicious after dark , not ideal to walk alone. Overall, a very warm hostel.

I spent one night at this Hostel, and thought it was really nice. All the facilites were clean and the dorms are nice and modern. It is in downtown montreal, which makes it really accessible to walk around the city and get to the major attractions. The staff were nice and effective. They have a downstairs bar area where they have events weekly so it's great to socialize. I believe the price is reasonable. You can get on site parking for $35 CAD a night. But I found a cheaper parking garage.

Spent 3 nights here as a solo female traveler and had a good experience. Customer service was so welcoming and kind, with attention to detail for any question I had. I didn’t get the chance to participate in the extracurricular fun such as a the bar or rooftop, but other guests seemed to love it. The women’s 6-bed room I stayed in was presented as very clean, and I loved the added locker and shelf space for each guest bunk. The one exception to my stay is that a guest in one of my shared rooms had left some food on the floor (bag of chips and other items in a grocery bag), immediately next to my lower level bunk. I woke up in the middle of the night to rodents eating their way through the bag, I didn’t see them as I had my bunk curtain closed, but you could plain as day hear the scurries, squeaks, and rustle of the grocery bag. By the time I woke up, the guest had left with their bags so it was near impossible to verify this. As a side note, I was staying in the older side of the hostel, so the building walls probably had tunnels of little rodents. This was only one of the nights, but still concerning as I was the lower level bunk and god forbid I woke up with a critter on my bed. The price was worth it for a solo traveler per night, but any more than 2 traveling guests you may as well get a hotel. Parking not being included hiked up the price significantly, but it’s the price to pay for city parking in a small neighborhood. Overall, would stay again if it came down to me visiting solo, but I would request a spot in the newer building to avoid any old building resident critters.

On a business trip or for pleasure, I highly recommend M montreal for your visit. Big shout out to Emma in the lobby and diarmuid (arguably the 2 best in town) to assist with your visit. 👌 👍 On renewing my reservation, Vaina and Ornella were there to assist, and were both wonderful. Merci. Incredibly accommodating, bar with live music down stairs, clean rooms and spacious with plenty of space for work or play. Go solo, or bring the family, they have something for everyone. Short walk to all of the best attractions. Very LGBTQ+ friendly. ❤️

Very impressed with this hostel. Affordable. Upgraded amenities. Decent location. Quiet and safe. Questionable neighborhood with some drug addicts visible during daylight hours. I would definitely come back here again. Ian at checkout and Yiota at check in were really great. Top 1% hostel!

Love this hostel. The dorm beds are sturdy so you won’t feel other people moving. Works great for light sleepers like me. Excellent location too. In my 3 nights stay i never had to take the transit. Staff are amazing and helpful! They provide towel (unlike other hostels) but you have to bring your own lock and toiletries. And i love the rooftop jacuzzis.

This place is good an bad. It seems like they are very ready to charge you extra for just about anything. To be fair, I understand theft. But if you are too loud, too late, they charge you $200, check out late they charge you the room fee, accidentally damage something and it is $200, it is almost kind of scary to agree to stay here and sign the waiver. Parking is not included unless you specifically reserve it, and if you don't reserve it, it is $35. It is a very busy area so if you have a vehicle, be sure to reserve parking if you can find it on their website. I am not sure if the charge is per day or not, as we only stayed one night. Breakfast is not included and is an extra $10. I took a picture of the list of "warnings". We did enjoy the rooftop hot tub, but the tubs are getting old and have been damaged so they work okay. In the tub we used, there only seemed to be jets on one seat and they were kind of weak. So it was nice but don't expect amazing. The elevator carpet was extremely dirty which was a bit gross but the rest of the floors weren't too bad. We were also only given one large towel in our room, and there are no towels near the hot tubs, so we had to use our room towels as hot tub towels also and that seems unfair. We asked about the tubs on check in and we're not offered additional towels, so I guess you just have to deal with it. Our room was very nice and clean and we stayed in a private room so I cannot comment on dorms or shared areas.
