M Shanghai

It’s a good Chinese restaurant if you’re craving some dumplings or noodles. The food is fairly decent but nothing amazing. They have a good selection of some traditional dishes but the naming convention can be a tad confusing for some items. I do highly recommend the wontons and the pepper steak if you’re here.

I had dumplings and wonton soup in cold raining day, so those food made me so warm! This steam dumplings had a logo of meat and good with their sauce! Vegetable wonton soup is simple and healthy taste! They also open late! Great service too!

Someone had the great idea to rebrand this restaurant and remove everything good from the menu they've been serving for years...not sure why, but wont be back. New soups are boring. For really good soups to replace their old menu, I highly recommend Chiangmai Diner

Such a cute spot with amazing food! My partner and I were starving and looking for a nice spot with a nice ambiance where we wouldn’t feel rushed. Got the egg rolls, sweet and sour pork, house fried rice, and beef with Chinese broccoli and it was everything! Such a cute nice spot with really nice, lovely service. We are leaving feeling happy and full.

Best Chinese food I've had in a long while. Thank you for the amazing service, food, and drinks!! Everything was cooked just right and very delicious. The bar was a great place to be, very friendly and great bartender. The tea was so good too.

I don’t want to write a bad review for m Shanghai as a whole but the lo mein tasted like i was eatting paper. I would not order again.

Stopped to grab a quick bite with my best-friend prior to us going to an event . There was no wait and the place was pretty empty . Staff were very pleasant from the time we walked in . We only ordered the sweet and sour cucumber salad and wings . To my surprise the sweet and sour cucumber salad was amazingggg. The wings were extremely good as well .

Shocked at the low ratings for this restaurant. It our go-to Chinese order - all the way to Crown Heights. The best hot and sour soup you've ever had. Love the ginger chicken. It's pricey, yes, but good quality and delicious Chinese.

Simply the best. I really do not understand why there are so many bad reviews. This place has very authentic and rare dishes that you simply Won't find anywhere else unless you're in China. I love this place and it's so special, and so underrated!

No flavor and so uninspired. We are very disappointed that after all these years they haven't figured it out. $80 spent and turns into landfill. But very fast delivery.

Wow. What a great little restaurant! Homemade love and care and skill are blended into all of their terrific dishes. The soup dumplings are superb. The steamed juicy pork buns, house special hot-n-sour soup, pork Shu-Mai, pork belly, and spicy bean paste noodle soup were all fresh, richly flavorful and satisfying. The service was friendly and accommodating. Pepsi/not Coke. We'll be back.

Beyond disappointed. Was really looking forward to very flavorful Chinese food delivery, and everything in the order was bland w/ lack of ingredients. On top of that each dish was so expensive where quality doesn't meet the cost. Would not recommend.

Noodles 8.5/10. Wish it had more sauce. And the fried pork dumplings are a 10/10! Very flavorful in the inside and juicy. I love the chili oil paired with the pork dumplings. Service: 8/10 they take a while (I ordered thru yelp pickup) Ambiance: it's a nice interior and vibe. Just briefly went in to pick up my food. I just order the pork dumplings when I come to this place. I want to try their other dumplings/buns.

I ordered here for a couple of years during what I refer to fondly as M Shanghai's Old Republic period. I ordered a lot of Awesome Beef, justifying it being unique in the City for the dish it was to The Wife's skeptical eyebrow lowering. But, over time, the food became inconsistent to the point of Senate dissolution. It may have rebounded, but I'll never know. Food love affairs burn bright and die hard in Brooklyn.

To say the food was mediocre would be an overstatement. You can get better food for half the price at a local take out spot. This is NYC with some of the best Chinese spots. How is this place even open? Servers were sweet though.

Food and hospitality is still solid but the dishes are exactly the same as they were back in 2009 however the prices don't make any sense. For example the price of the dishes changed twice already and it's only April. The owner did this before using Covid as the excuse. However I think it's completely unreasonable being that Wei which is less than 5 blocks away and has a nearly identical menu is averaging 5 dollars less on almost every "special". I can understand local restaurants struggling and trying to make ends meet but what we're seeing lately with M Shanghai is simply greedy price gouging. It's such a shame because the staff are so nice and welcoming but the owner is constantly raising the prices with no justification. Locals have been steering clear for more reasonable alternatives and it seems like the target audience is just tourists that don't know any better.

Everything we ordered was incredible. The awesome beef and juicy pork buns were our top dishes! Highly recommend.

The food was fresh and very homemade. The prices were pretty high but the preparation was fast and food ready when I arrived. Scallion pancake was huge!

M Shanghai delivers to Brooklyn Heights! This is such a solid place to order soup dumplings. Especially for delivery. So often you order dumplings and the skin breaks... but all my dumplings stayed intact and were completely delicious when I enjoyed them at home. I ordered their "awesome beef" and fried rice, and they we're definitely outshined by the soup dumplings. Order soup dumplings for delivery!

I got a delivery order from M Shanghai. The food I order were 59. Shredded Beef with Chili pepper $20.25 and 37. Shanghai-Style Lo Main with pork $14.75 For Chinese restaurant and the quality of food compare to the price I feel it is a bit too high. The taste of food is okay I like shredded beef but not crazy about Lo-main. Because of the price point plus the taste, I'm not sure if I want to order from this place again.

My coworker and I sat at the bar and were treated wonderfully by the staff. I got the Tik-Tac-Toe chicken, six piece steamed pork dumplings, and a mojito. The food was hot and the drink was delicious. The waitress made the dipping sauce for me and described the ingredients as she poured. She was very lovely. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was dim and moody, similar to a lounge. But I love that style. Would definitely go again.

Went to have some dinner at @shanghaibk and it was delicious!!! We had the No. 55 Awesome Beef: Sliced tender beef with scallion and onion! It was amazing!!! But even more delicious was the No. 67 in the menu! Tic-Tac Toe Chicken !!! Shredded chicken in spicy garlic sauce! That sauce was just incredible!!! Yummmmmyyyy!!!! If you are in Williamsburg you must stop by check it out!! :)

Would do 2.5 stars if a could. Not work the money. The Amazing Salt and Pepper Shrimp - was not amazing. The shrimp were small. Some were soggy. There was a breading falling off. Was $30 with brown rice. The fried pork dumplings were a bit tough. The mixed vegetable platter. $20. Was like flavorless boiled vegetables. Wanted to like this place but couldn't.

Tonight I decided to splurge and pay double then I ever spend on mu shoo pork - they charge $18 for this dish and call it "fabulous mu shu." It's the worst I have ever had in my life. It's just plain flavorless cabbage. A couple of pieces of mushroom and flavorless pork mixed in. How could they call this fabulous and charge $18?!

This is the best Chinese food I've ever had. I haven't even finished my meal and I can't wait to stop typing this so I can take another bite. The soup dumpling to DIE for. Fried pork dumplings TOP NOTCH. The tea is beautiful and the wonderful lady working gave us a whole pot. The numbers 55 and 59 are currently sitting in front of me and they're delicious. This place is so cute too which is a plus. I love this place and I'm so happy I stumbled upon it!

Terence is the sweetest! Every time we come here with coworkers, he's always asking for our colleague, Bob, who travels to China quiet often. He always remembers all of us, and asks how everything is; he's delightful! Despite COVID, I am SO happy this place has survived and seems to be thriving just fine. There's outdoor and indoor dining being offered, and you need to show your vaccination card to eat indoors according to the current mandate. I appreciate them being so thorough and following the rules. Whenever we come, whether it's to celebrate someone's birthday, or just because we all didn't pack lunch, we get the sameeee reliable favorites: - soup dumplings - fried vegetable dumplings -beef with scallions and onions (also commonly called "awesome beef") -scallion pancake -pea leaves with garlic (on the dinner menu, but you can ask for it!) The inside is CLEAN and has a great vintage vibe; there's something about it that's really comforting and just super chill. Bring a friend; bring a coworker or two; or come by yourself and soak up the atmosphere and the great food!

Born and raised in Shanghai, have to say this is a bit different from the authentic Shanghai Xiaolongbao. Not bad, but not great. I might be harsh as I grow up eating the food. The sauce is wrong. You k oh dip Xiaolongbao into simple vinegar, no soy sauce no sesame oil pls. Tried some beef stir fry, it is a bit too salty. Fried green veggie with garlic is good though.

I was really feeling Chinese food the other night so decided to give this place a try since sit was nearby. The place was pretty empty, but we decided to give it a try anyways. Sadly, the food was not very good, as I've cooked similar dishes at home that I think tasted better.

Delicious Chinese food, many vegan options! The black mushroom salad was unique and the wonton and buns were wow! The ma pao tofu can be made vegan as well- ask for no pork

Visiting from San Diego, was told from a friend at home that I MUST go here, so we made a point to go. We stayed in Central Park but made the visit over the bridge for this place. Was awesome! Did not disappoint. Will be back whenever we visit. Great service. Delicious food. Super cute and cool vibe. We were a party of 6 (two of whom live in Brooklyn and had never been)! We all Loved it. Highly recommend.

M Shanghai is one of the best in NYC/williamsburg neighborhood. Their pork soup dumplings are amazing as well as the rest of the menu!

Another covid-era delivery review... 3.5 stars. We don't like M Shanghai as much as we like M Noodle even though the menus somewhat overlap (so if you have a choice you know which to choose). But they still make good food here. Get the steamed pork buns or the sauteed pea leaves (pea tendrils). Those don't disappoint.

This is a fantastic chinese food restaurant. I have bought several people here and none of them have had a bad meal. The service is always friendly and the decor of the place is cozy and it is set up with long tables so you can eat family style. I recommend the Pork spicy wonton, The Juicy Soup Dumplings. The house special Lo-Mien, the Kung Pow Chicken, and The Awesome Beef.

This place is awesome. The food is fantastic. The service is phenomenal. The ambiance is super low key but they also have an which is best in the summer. The staff is super friendly and the food is extremely affordable. Love this spot!

Average Chinese restaurant, located in Williamsburg. The dumplings here were very good and make a great appetizer. However some of their entrees left some to be desired - the beef with vegetables entree came with too much white rice and not enough beef/veggies. I don't know why so many restaurants serve this kind of rice when it's not even healthy. There was nothing else that came with the entree either, like soup or egg roll or tea. You can find some great Chinese restaurants in NYC in Chinatown in Flushing, NY, which have far better cuisine and decor. Of course Williamsburg is a great neighborhood and more accessible but if it lacks anything it's top-notch Chinese cuisine.

Delicious soup dumplings, but they weren't labeled as soup dumplings on the menu? I think they were pork buns on there. Took a while for us to get our food, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Price was great for them! Outdoor seating is a hit or miss, we smelled trash every few minutes and then the scent went away, but what can you do. I would definitely come back for them dumplings.

During COVID, we ordered from here at least once a week. Their lunch specials are great, especially for the price. The other night, we finally got to swing by in-person and meet the team. They are such a lovely group of people! Someone told us that they will be hitting their 20th year in business this upcoming March, and that's awesome. Hands down some of the best scallion pancakes I've ever had. They are so crispy and, well, scallion-y. I like to eat it with hoisin sauce??? I think you get roughly around 8 for $8. We always get the shredded pork and bean curd, which comes with peppers. Usually in the delivery order it's not too spicy, but holy cow, eating IRL had me chugging water. SO SPICY! But so tasty. What I love most about M Shanghai is they use five-spice tofu, where a lot of restaurants would just use plain old tofu. Delicious!

Looking for a super casual/chill spot to stuff your face with coup dumplings? You got it. M Shanghai feels like a bar that you can stroll into with your sweats on and get no judgement from anybody. It's a very relaxed spot where couples are drinking or eating at the communal tables. I came here with a friend when we were craving some dumplings and we were starving. This place really hit the spot. We're the dumplings the best I've ever had?? No. BUT they were pretty good and I would come here again especially since the service was really good and the place really deserves a high rating for speed or service and knowing how to treat costumers. Here is what we ordered for two people: - sweet and sour cucumber salad ( basically lightly brined cucumbers, so refreshing and much needed) - juicy pork buns ( soup dumplings, very nice and they come with 6) - sticky rice dumplings ( comes with 4, very filling and flavorful) - steamed veggie dumplings ( comes with 6, loved the leaf design and the dumplings come stuffed with filling which we loved) - spicy wontons with peanut sauce ( comes with 6, delicious but not spicy at all) Needless to say we were stuffed but had no regrets. If you're looking for a no-frills experience you should come here and feast.

Today, went to our (until now) our favorite Chinese restaurant. Usually staff is quite pleasant, but today it was different. The owner of the place was so ridiculously rude that we felt embarrassed in front of our business partner. I will not go soon to that place. We could except from owner to be that way.

We ordered for delivery. I have been a patron of M since they first opened on Havemeyer many years ago and have always loved it. Despite the website saying "a box of rice" comes with the dishes, we received no rice. Upon calling the restaurant to ask for my rice I was met with a combative employee who told me they haven't included rice with dishes for at least 2 months, that she was a new employee that couldn't do anything for me and that no manager, no owner, and no one else who spoke English was there for me to talk to. So disappointed with M. I will not eat here or order from them again. $25 for dish that does not include a simple side of rice is absurd. The customer service skills of their self proclaimed only English speaking employee were terrible. Offering less and expecting more seems to be a trend with many established restaurants in North Brooklyn. I know times are tough, but businesses should consider their long time customers more often.

Went here for the first time on my bike ride home last Saturday after work. I heard some good music and decided to try it, Atilia was the bartender? What a sweetheart! Ordered some drinks and was really happy with my experience. Great service and good conversation. 10 out of 10 would recommend going back.

Came into town to spend time with our kids for the holidays and this was our first stop! One of our kids favorites in Brooklyn! And it was DIVINE! The environment and the beautiful human that took care of us was so kind! We had the soup dumplings and they were extraordinary! A fabulous experience!

I want to tell a story about May the owner....For the 4th of July I brought my mother there for her 88th Birthday! I made a reservation for 3-4 (I wasn't sure) a week in advance and May was so gracious she made sure we had a table right by the door...when my mother arrived there early from a car service and we were stuck by slow trains I was so worried...but when we arrived she was happily talking with May and enjoying a glass of Wine:) May was then so gracious waiting on us the entire time and suggesting the best dishes...my mother was so happy...when my mother remarked on how much she liked the wine and asked if she could see the label May gave her an entire bottle as a Gift! It was really a special lunch! We already love this place for the great food and especially the soup dumplings but now we are fans for life:)

I placed a large order for a casual, backyard party I was throwing. I called a week ahead to see if it was something they could do (YES!), and then I placed the order three days before the party on a Saturday. They didn't have a "catering" menu so I ordered everything as is which was fine by me! For "20 people", I ordered Shanghai-style lo mein noodles with chicken (6 orders), sticky rice dumplings (3 orders), chicken shu mai (6 orders), veggie shu mai (4 orders), green beans (4 orders), sweet and sour cucumbers to cleanse the palate (4 orders), chrysanthemum and black oolong tea because what is dim sum without tea? The total was less than $300 which is more affordable than what Nom Wah quoted me (twice as much). Sometimes, it just makes more sense to order entrees! I also liked that I get to choose the menu items whereas catering menus can sometimes be limiting. I didn't need utensils, cups or servings plates but they offered to bring some. I do wish they'd brought chili sauce or some kind of hot sauce! My noodles were lonely without the heat (sad face). Everyone said the food was really good and I definitely agreed. The noodles could have been a tad saucier but that's just preferences. Overall, happy with the service and delivery as they were right around the corner. If I were to have another dim sum party, I would order from here again. Maybe get some scallion pancakes...some vegetable buns too! Mouth is watering now...

Every time I am in the neighborhood and craving a cocktail or little Shanghai food, this is my place to go. The food here is not as oily and salty as other Shanghainese restaurants. Rich in flavor. I had the steamed veggie dumplings and rice cakes. Both very good. I recommend the steamed dumplings over fried but both are yum. The cocktails are interesting. Really enjoyed the Shanghai mai tai- nice twist to Hawaiian mai tai. The lychee martini is great! Atmosphere is chill. Waitress/waiters are chill.

For a not-so-large portion, it's disappointing that the Chicken Lo Mein consisted of 95% noodles, 2.5% chicken, and 2.5% greens. The noodles were tasty overall, but they were overpowering, and there were too many of them compared to everything else. They were also extremely wide noodles. The scallion pancakes were extremely thin and they felt too chewy/doughy. Overall, they were good, but I wish they were softer and more like actual scallion pancakes. The vegetable spring roll was nothing special. The pork dumplings were not bad.

I love the Pork Soup Dumplings, Veggie Dumplings, oh and of course a Margarita on the side! The service is a hit or miss, but most of the times they're nice and attentive. I really like to sit in the back area outside. So cute!

The entres themselves are forgettable what is NOT forgettable are the soup dumplings. I could eat a tier of three on my own... soupy, saucy, HOT, very very tasty, the seasoning is on point... ok a tier of 4 for me only... no sharing... ok 5 and i share two dumplings. really good soup dumplings.

Decided to try this spot for take out & was pleasantly surprised at how fresh it all tasted. Although the first surprise came from how quickly it was delivered. I would say it was roughly about 10 minutes total between placing the order & being delivered to my door. The cucumber salad was probably the best I've ever had. The chicken was in this sweet yet gingery tasty sauce & the pork soup dumplings were so scrumptious and dripping with juices. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new go-to Asian spot.

Our go-to takeout spot in Williamsburg. Their juicy steamed pork dumplings (soup dumplings) are unreal. No other restaurant in the neighborhood offers these! Their entree options are also very tasty.
