Ma Cuisine

"Wine takes pride of place in this friendly bistro with an outstanding selection of some 800 different bottles. The chef certainly knows his way around them, and is equally at ease in the kitchen. Diners delight in his homemade jellied ham with parsley, veal chop in jus and crème caramel. The dishes will have you coming back for more." - Michelin Inspector

A Wine Lover's Tour of Burgundy, France - AFAR

"With thirst now satiated, it’s time to eat. Ma Cuisine in Beaune's city center is hardly unknown, but fortunately the tourists doesn’t deflate the hearty flavor of the beef bourguignon I devour." - Kristin Braswell

A Hidden Gem in Beaune: The Best Boeuf Bourguignon I've Ever Had I stumbled upon a true culinary gem hidden in the heart of Beaune. This unassuming restaurant, tucked away from the main tourist hub, offers a dining experience that is simply unforgettable. Their boeuf bourguignon is, without a doubt, the best I've ever tasted. The rich, hearty sauce, infused with the flavors of Burgundy, perfectly complements the tender, slow-cooked beef. It's a dish that showcases the true essence of French cuisine. Beyond the incredible boeuf bourguignon, the menu features a delightful selection of classic French dishes, all prepared with meticulous attention to detail. And let's not forget the wine list. Any wine lover would be green with envy. The selection of Burgundy wines, in particular, is simply outstanding. If you find yourself in Beaune, I highly recommend seeking out this hidden gem. It's a place where you'll experience the true magic of French cuisine.

Google
Really great and well done menu (very tasty, traditional but interesting, everything cooked to perfection). Extremely extensive wine menu (on the pricy side, but fair for the region). Nice service. Authentic experience.

Google
A must eat (and drink…) when in Burgundy, with honest, delicious food from the best ingredients and classic cooking. Been three times (2022-24), and always wonderful.

Google
Unfortunately we had unfriendly staff on our visit. The food was OK and a bit pricey for the region. The meat dishes were more exciting then the fish dishes. We found the menu to be local which was positive.

Google
The best Boeuf Bourguignon in the world! Lovely lunch, thank you so much Pierre❤️

Google
Good classic cuisine. Most amazing is the wine list. We will be coming back for more

Google
We were welcomed by the manager who was initially very kind. It was my first trip to the restaurant and I wanted to experience this Beaune landmark. On first inspection of the wine list I noticed prices were significantly higher than pretty much everywhere else in Burgundy we have eaten. I asked for a couple specific bottles I had heard they may have off list and was immediately rejected. Eventually I found a white and was pressured by the manager into ordering a less desirable vintage. It was a regret. Eventually the food came and it was passable but nothing to return for. I felt bad for the manager as it appeared to be just him and one other waiter working the entire space. We had some great meals in Burgundy but this wasn't one of them.

Google
Nice place with a really great wine list. The owner was a bit snooty, but it gave an authentic French feel. Food was homely, nothing crazy. I'd eat there again, but not at the top of my list.

Yelp
Best simple French food with an extensive wine list. Come here for classic French dishes such as beef Bourguignon and escargots done perfectly. Price isn't bad for the area and service (for my large party) is great! Ambience was pleasant as well, but the food and great wine made it all worth it.

Yelp
Amazing food and one of the deepest wine lists in all of Burgundy. Note they are closed on weekends. Their 28 euro, 3-course lunch is insanely reasonable.

Yelp
Don't let this tiny restaurant fool you, it punches way above its weight. Out of a tiny kitchen come some fantastic Burgundian dishes. They may not be the fussy food that gain Michelin stars, but they will make you see stars while you're eating. This was our first meal after driving into Burgundy and one of our last lunches. The starters, including the livers and salad, the green salad, gazpacho and especially the rabbit starter were fantastic. Moving onto the 10 or so main dishes, the standouts were entrecôte, skate, cod and chicken. The owner/waiter comes off at first as brusk. But if you take a moment to ask him and informed question or ask him about a wine pairing, he lights up immediately and becomes engaged. His wine list is like a treasure trove and must have 30 to 40 pages of incredible burgundies. He was extremely helpful in finding us Wines that would pair well with what we ordered.

Yelp
The host was extremely nice and the ambiance perfect. The food was immaculate, I got the grilled angus ribeye and my friend got the duck, both perfectly cooked accompanied by well balanced buttery sauces. Needless to say the wine selection was extensive, I suggest the Chablis

Yelp
Had the delicious bourguignon, it was preceded by some complimentary saucisson and wonderful crusty baguette, which was excellent to dip into the sauce. The proprietor was very helpful in recommending a glass of wine to go with the meal. They were all very accommodating and skilled with communicating in English.

Yelp
I can't imagine coming to Beaune and not eating at Ma Cusine. It's the first place I went to on my first trip to Beaune. It's a go to for dinner. It's one of the only places I could find a SALAD! The food here is always solid - great french cooking. They have a great wine list. I always for the the pre-fix dinner which is typically a starter / main and dessert.

Yelp
We came here for lunch before doing some wine tasting in Beaune. My husband actually came here years ago, and he really wanted to come back. It's a cute spot in town, and street parking was pretty easy (and free from 12:30-2pm). Definitely make a reservation (by phone). The wine list is very extensive for bottles, and some half bottles are available, too. Fewer options are available by the glass. They do a 3 course lunch for 28€; they have a board with an a la carte menu. We got both the set menu and some a la carte. They start you with a warm puff pastry rolled with mustard. 3 course lunch: 1. Terrine Maison: with some pickled vegetables, fruit compote, bread 2. Joues de porc en meurette: pork cheeks in a red wine sauce 3. Cheese: epoisses A la carte: 1. Œufs en meurette: poached egg in a thick cut bacon and red wine sauce - this thing was super flavorful and came with thick cut garlic bread. Definitely get this! 2. Boeuf bourguignon: you have to have this when in Burgundy, right ? It was 3 large pieces of short rib in a flavorful sauce. The mustard on the table was great - I think I used half the jar (it's great to cut the heavier red wine sauce). House made cornichons were also available in a jar and were really good, too. Don't skip the egg meurette dish if you're here. This place has been around for a long time and seems to be a favorite of both locals/regulars and some tourists. Some of the staff do speak English, but regardless, everyone was friendly.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my dinner at Ma while in Beaune. The pigeon dish really blew my mind. It was so nicely cooked and the sauce was appetizing. I have had escargot almost everyday, but this place is the best I've had this week. The owner is a really nice guy and he took his time to explain/more like translate the menu for us. It was a nice dinner and enjoyable meal.

Yelp
You must go here when in Beaune, assuming you can get in. Great selection of wine great hospitality great food a real pleaser.

Robert M.

Yelp
Wonderful food. The3-course lunch menu is 28 euros and just the right amount of food. For some, the real attraction is perhaps the most extensive and reasonably priced wine list in all of Burgundy.

Yelp
Believe the hype. We received the recommendation from two different sommeliers in NYC so we knew we had to try it but didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Everything was amazing! My husband got the veal and throughout the meal he lets saying "I can't put into words how good this is". I normally never order chicken at a restaurant (only because it's something I feel like I can easily make at home) but i saw a table with it when we walked in and decided on it - it was a great choice. The place is small - fits 25-30 people max, the service was great, wine selection amazing and outstanding food

Yelp
So good! We enjoyed the food and conversations at the community table. Scallop salad and veal chops were amazing!

Yelp
Excellent traditional french food. Simple, very yummy presentation. We ordered the escargot, rabbit rillette, duck Margaret and the cod as well as some epoisse at the end. All of the dishes were very good, especially the escargot which comes with a very large portion and was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The owner is very friendly and was helpful in making wine recommendation. The wine list is HUGE and really has the best of the Burgundy region. Great place for dinner.

Yelp
Food = very, very good Service = appalling Really no reason to go here if enjoying a dining experience is your thing. The surly service ruins even the tastiest plates they may offer.

Yelp
Best meal in Beaune! We loved everything about Ma Cusine. Service was excellent and the owner's English worked for us. Would recommend to anyone who loves great food.

Yelp
Eleventy billion stars for the photo montage of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones' visit displayed in the loo. So classy and understated. Just like this restaurant in general. I think it was our best find in a week of galavanting about Normandy, Champagne, and Burgundy. The food, service, and setting are all superb. The hubs' ris de veau and my bouef bourguignon were two of the best dishes we've eaten all year. They also serve an amazing lemon tart. The menu changes daily, and is scrawled on the wall-sized chalkboard. It's pretty much what you would expect from a small, French, family-run operation: fresh, local, seasonal, and delicious. We will be back, hopefully soon! Note: You would do well to make a booking. They fill up fast, even on weeknights and in the off-season.

Yelp
If you are in Burgundy, make reservations for this restaurant. It is homey, delicious, and seemingly authentic.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience. I arrived and did not have a reservation so they asked if I could return in an hour. I decided to do just that, and what a great choice. The service was great. They started with a cheesy bread, then I got the fixed menu. The carpaccio and rabbit were delightful. Some of the best rabbit I have ever had. The escargot was amazing. I ended the meal with Epoisses (cheese) that was simply delicious. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Service (its French in every way) was spot on, food is delicious, and wine list is best I have seen in all of France. Will return without hesitation. Exceeded expectations.

Lazar T.

Yelp
Overrated for the food and atmosphere. The only dish we liked was Beef Burgundy. The rest was floating in oil/butter, tasteless. Desert - i can not even describe the mush of something fatty on my plate.

Yelp
Perhaps one of the best places I've eaten in Beanue..let alone all of Burgundy. The restaurant is small, cozy and always busy. Beyond the food, the wine selection is deep and amazingly well priced. The food speaks for itself...it alone should get 6 stars. If they have it available - ask for the sardines, sou vide eggs, pork, and jacque salad. I need to go back here.

Yelp
Classical French cuisine in an intimate setting - make reservations! Far too many folks were turned away. Don't get me started on the wine list - it's prolly the reason you're going here anyhow. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked wonderful and the staff was very hospitable. Enjoy!

Yelp
One of the best foods we had in France. It's hard getting a reservation or table on the day, so making a reservation a day or two before will ensure your table at the time you want. Don't forget to stop by this wonderful restaurant if you are in Beaune.

Linda S.

Yelp
Tres bien in all fronts! A lovely French dining experience! We had escargot, Boeuf Bourguignon and Apricot Tarte- oh yes and a spectacular 2009 Ballot Millit Pommard 1er Cru! If you are in Beaune you must visit Ma Cuisine.

Habib A.

Yelp
As everyone else has said, this place is brilliant in every way. I'll add that we went with our 4 year old and 2 month old for lunch and were made to feel perfectly at ease by the staff and owners. Really a gem.

Yelp
Traveled two wks thru France and we all agreed this place was overrated. Food was average at best and service was ordinary. The host was not welcoming.

Tom B.

Yelp
TA says that you have to reserve a table here months in advance as it is SO good. BS. We stopped in on a Monday night to see if they could serve us and said they were full. They were happy to book us for Tuesday night. We had a great dinner here compared to the junk we had the night before for almost the same price. The entire experience was great. We don't speak French so ordering was a little tough. I had the Beef Burgundy and the Mrs. had the duck. Both were excellent and it was the best meal we had in Beaune. Check out the TA reviews for a lot more input from a lot more travelers, but you do NOT need to make a reservation months ahead. The wine list here is the biggest list I have ever seen and you get totally lost in it. There are even items in here that date back to the 1800's for well over $1000/bottle. Just pick a price that is within your budget and ask the owner to make a selection of a local wine for you. You won't be disappointed. Will probably not be back again here very soon, but you can't go wrong with a meal here.

Sumi H.

Yelp
It takes a bit of time to know that how good this restaurant is, if you are non French speaker as I am. The host serves your wine perfectly from excellent wine list, and food are nicely prepared.

Al M.

Yelp
I've eaten in this restaurant about three times over several years, and have been impressed by the very good food and very deep wine list. I was shocked to have read the account of surly service, since I remembered being treated very well on past visits. I decided to go again yesterday, thinking perhaps there had been a change in ownership that might account for the complaint of appealing service. What I found was the same staff, with two waitresses and the owner/sommelier. In contrast to the review by Mike R, I found the service to be professional and courteous and friendly. Although I'd eaten in this restaurant several times before, I hardly qualify as a regular. My French is far from fluent (I'd give myself a grade of D plus), but I was once again impressed by courteous and friendly service, so I hope readers will disregard the review that complained of appalling service; it's so far from the truth that it makes me wonder whether the reviewer even ate in this restaurant!

Chris H.

Yelp
Worst service ever! Not sure if it is a French thing or not but the host and staff there are horrible. I would recommend any place in Beaune but ma Cuisine. I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and if this place thinks they are in the same league they are mistaken. I am surprised in a town like Beaune that they are still in business. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place even if you see good food reviews.
