Before we left to the cruise terminal we need have breakfast first we explore the surrounding of the hotel to find any restaurants just a block away there's Pythian Market it's a food hall with many food stands in one building. We went in the first thing we saw is Ma Momma's house we decided to go there. We saw their menu my wife order the waffle sandwich comes bacon and egg come with strawberry waffle comes together in one meal. She also order a strawberry lemonade. I order the house special it come your choice of waffle also comes with eggs, sausage and grits I decided to get the cheese grit. They call our number my wife pick up the food and brought it the table. I open one of the containers was the waffles with La fluer imprint nice then I open the second container have the egg sausage and the cheese grits. The waffles was very good airy and wasn't sweet The egg and sausage was really good the biggest surprise was the cheese grit incredible good I really enjoy the whole meal. My wife enjoy her meal also we need to come back again.

Perhaps our expectations were a good too high. Well seasoned, flavorful chicken, even though it tasted as though the oil needed to be changed. Portion sizes are good, and the waffle is delicious.

This restaurant is BEYOND AMAZING! Food was excellent, still warm, delicious flavor, they were sold out of one item and called me. I ordered the chicken and waffles but with the Rum waffle... BABY😳 THA BEST! ordered a side of scrambled eggs, grits(sold out) but they compensated with extra chicken wing. That Sweet lemon tea, is the bomb! Best sweet tea ive ever had. Arnold Palmer can hang it up!🙃😆 I received plenty of delicious syrup and utensils. They really know how to run a business and take care of their customers. My momma would have done the same. I'm from Houston and I will always visit MaMommas's House in person or using Seamless delivery service. Just a wonderful wonderful experience. Thanks Ma!😁

The food was amazing and the staff was fantastic! The food was so good we came back 3 days in a row on our vacation to have breakfast. The chicken and waffles are so good and so was the shrimp and grits. My husband and I had a debate going on whether or not the house punch or the strawberry lemonade was the best. I really enjoyed the food and conversation. Thank you so much for the awesome food and wonderful hospitality. We will definitely tell everyone about Ma Momma's House

The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very good either. A 2 star because i paid $17 for a waffle and a scrambled egg.

Came to Ma Mommas House to try the Rum waffle 🧇. I didn't care for the waffle at all, it was very dry and wet at the same time. How you ask, I'm not sure if this was the correct way to have the waffle but the RUM was so saturated in the middle that my waffle was "mushy"...I ordered the House breakfast which included grits, scrambled eggs and bacon 🥓. Bacon was fried soft which I liked and grits/eggs was good. I tried the strawberry 🍓 lemonade, very delicious. I ordered take out and my walk was two minutes from this place which was convenient. I do not plan eating back at this location but wish much success.

Placed my order, all I got was the dessert waffle and a specialty waffle with two chicken wings. The waffles were really tough and had time to get really cold. They were sitting in the box on the counter while we waited for the rest of the order. The only thing that was served hot was the chicken that I waited 50 minutes for with only one order ahead of mine (from what I could tell). It seemed as if they were also preparing a big brown-bag catering order. There were only three workers and it was clearly too much for them. We should know not to prepare and plate food before the chicken (which takes the longest) is nearly done. I think that is Restaurant: 101. Also, like another review mentioned, the strawberry (specialty) waffle is just strawberry flavoring/syrup! Also, they even put my whipped cream in a to-go sauce cup and it melted down to liquid before they served it. I didn’t have the energy to deal with them any more than I had so I ordered more food from the spot next to them. The best thing served was the bottled orange juice.

Yelp
Ordered at 9:49am. It's 10:40am and no food yet. That's it. That's the review. If you know it's gonna take a while, leave a disclaimer. Probably don't don't wear your alma mater shirts either, terrible way to represent your school This was the worst food I've ever had in my 27 years of living in New Orleans.

Yelp
I was craving shrimp and grits and this place happened to be right next to my hotel. It is located in an indoor food plaza with a few other small mom and pop places. I ordered and for some reason it took 25 minutes just to get my food even though I was the only one there. A small local film crew just happened to show up to do a commercial or something for a local politician. I did not catch his name, because i was finally walking out the door. The cheese grits were cooked perfectly, but my shrimps were small, and bland. I am not sure of the standard size used for grits, but my shrimp have definitely been much bigger compared to this place. The one gentleman with the accent that gave me my food was really sweet and apologetic. his name wasn't on the receipt since an older lady took my order, so I can't give him props like I want to.

Yelp
It did take a bit to get our food but that was because they were busy. The few workers there were moving. But they had a takeout, DoorDash, and in person orders. The waffle and syrup were a good combination. The chicken had a good balance of spice, seasoning, flavor, crunch and juice.

Yelp
I have been loving this restaurant since their first location in the east. There's something to be said about a restaurant that is consistent in the quality of their customer service and the mouthwatering taste of their food! I recently got the "Drunk n Love" Waffle and O M G. (I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture). It really will have you feeling in love. The amazing taste of the warm rum waffle with the perfect pour of bourbon syrup will have you wanting to come back 7 days a week just to experience it again. Now, my must try is their cornbread. I will forever rant and rave about their cornbread!! Their perfectly golden, moist, and sweet to salty ratio will have your mouthwatering just looking at a picture. I sometimes have cravings for cornbread so I go and just order cornbread because that's just how amazing it is. So, if your in the New Orleans Area this is a MUST TRY restaurant! I promise nothing on the menu will let you down! But, seriously, get the drunk n love waffle and cornbread...

Yelp
We got off the plane today, and got checked into our hotel! Was looking for something close with a drink and something for lunch! We found the Pythian Market a block away! Got a great drink at 1980 in the market, and then headed to Ma Mommas! Let me just say, MOMMA is amazing! She completely made our first experience with NOLA people outstanding! So sweet, and knowledgeable! I would go back just to talk to her :)! But to top it off the chicken was outstanding, and so were the waffles! We went a little late, as they were sold out of their other items. However we plan on fitting one more stop in Mommas before we leave :) Amazing service is EVERYTHING!

Yelp
Decent food but overpriced. I'm assuming they upcharge because of the expensive rent. They are located next to a hotel in a food market/kitchen hall. It seemed like a lackluster attempt at Chelsea Market in NYC. I got the grits and cheese which were good but light on the cheese and overpriced. Cute set-up and ambiance. Idk if I'd return.

Ashley R.

Yelp
I ordered "The House" which included a waffle, cheese grits, eggs, and bacon. I added the rum syrup to top my waffle off which was phenomenal. They are very personable and a great addition to the market. Next time I am in the area, I will make sure to visit again.

David P.

Yelp
Wow. Extremely disappointed in the portion sizes. Eggs? More like 1/4 egg. $2 for a sprinkle of cheese! Ouch. You'd do better at McDonalds. Paid almost $30 for a piece of an egg, two strips of bacon and some grits. Meh. Won't be back. Ever.

Kayla J.

Yelp
Customer service was wonderful! Staff were very friendly. The wait time was 15 mins, which isn't bad at all considering the amount of space that they have to cook. They offer takeout, delivery, or you can eat inside. The food was very good and filling. The eggs weren't seasoned. However, they provided salt and pepper. The house punch is AMAZING!

Yelp
Website searching and yelp recommended Ma Momma's House...I was visiting from Los Angeles, California was in town for Essence Festival...This place was less than half mile away from our hotel...The food, the chef, the owner daughter was amazing with great service. Food was mouthwatering delicious...That fried chicken was seasoned just right...savory grits and sausage patty was like no other...Must try if you looking for a home style cooked meal...I will be back soon. Then music just added a whole vibe to us dining in

David D.

Yelp
The customer service could be better. The shrimp and grits were ok I think they use water to cook their grits I can be wrong. Not much more to say I am sure they will improve and use heavy whipping cream with butter and salt for the grits.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE. The chef has a fragile ego and will spit in your food if you offend him or disagree with him in any way. It's sad that a grown man feels so small in his personal life that he abuses the the only thing he has power or control over, which is food. Good experience brought to 0/10 due to this bad employee. I had multiple parts to my order and ended up receiving an extra container that was meant for someone else. I was given the wrong order by the food expediter (who admitted to her mistake) and did not realize it until the chef came and personally opened a container of mine because he suspected I was given the wrong thing. I had already sat down so even tho the food was untouched by me the kitchen was unable to take it back. The chef, for some reason, blamed me for this. After opening the plate, he rolled his eyes and slammed his hand on the wall beside me out of frustration. His anger was was so palpable; he went back to the kitchen and told the other staff that he hoped the extra food I got was nasty. Because of this, I left the container untouched to prove that I was in no way trying to gain extra food and only took what was given to me by the employee. The next day my friends wanted to go back so I reluctantly agreed. Chef Morris (I believe is his name) immediately recognized me and apologized for his actions the day prior. He even personally delivered my food to me. However, this must have been a front because after I began eating I noticed this same chef walk by me again and look at my food. I thought he was coming to check on me again because he had been so nice. But he did not come to the table. Instead he walked by, looked at my plate, and then walked back around to the kitchen and said to one of the other employees "she ate the eggs". He and the other employee began laughing. It was then I realized he had put something in or done something to my food. I confronted him and he attempted to do damage control, but I'm certain of what I saw. I was so appalled and angry that someone would be sick enough to actually do this, especially when I didn't do anything wrong in the first place. The least he could've done was be man enough to tell me what he did. I had no idea if I was going to become sick due to the food he gave me. The eggs had been eaten at this point. This encounter really negatively impacted my entire view on this restaurant. It's a shame that one bad apple can spoil a whole bunch. 10/10 experience brought down to a 0/10 due to a petty chef. Also, He stated he was angry because his boss is stern and makes him pay for any wrong food and that twenty dollars was going to come out of his pocket because of the mistake. If he was in need of twenty dollars, all he had to do was ask. I would have personally given him twenty dollars myself, even forty, if i would have known it would prevent my food from being tampered with. DO NOT GO HERE.

Yelp
Boy oh boy this place got me saying boy oh boy. Fried chicken made to order, some real boozey waffles, great service and hospitality. This place has gotta be a stop on any trip to New Orleans. Portions were much larger than I expected and was too full to finish my food (and my momma taught me to never leave food on your plate). After a few days of restaurants and cafes, this place was a nice break - something similar to what I would actually eat back home in Los Ángeles.

Reshma T.

Yelp
I went to this place after hearing and seeing a lot of good reviews. I am picky about my food, but this was no where close to a good place. Bland food and lack of flavor. Lack of ambiance...which is fine. Usually hole in the wall are good places to eat, but this was a disappointment.

Alexis R.

Yelp
I had a craving for something good and filling for breakfast, so I ordered from their Pythian Market location via Uber Eats. I ordered Chicken and Cheese Grits. This fried chicken made my top five list of best fried chicken after I ate it! It tastes better and fresher than Manchu chicken! The grits didn't taste good and the type of cheese blend that was used threw off the taste. It was under seasoned too. That's why I'm rating this as four stars. I've had their cheese grits once at their Pythian Market location when I went in person several months ago and it was good, along with the bacon and eggs. So maybe grits is one of their menu items that's a hit or miss. One mini waffle came with my meal and it was so good! I wish there was a menu option for four chicken wings and three mini waffles. I wish their hours were longer too because sometimes I crave chicken and waffles for dinner. I would pay good money for an in-person demonstration on how to cook their chicken and waffles using their recipe or for a copy of their chicken and waffle mix recipes so I could be able to cook this at home!! Overall, if you're looking for a good, southern meal, this is a a top tier option in New Orleans!

Matthew P.

Yelp
Poor service and quality. Unbelievably small portions for large prices and mediocre quality at best. Other restaurants in Pythian are much more worth your money - do not go here! You have been warned.

Nattearra T.

Yelp
First off the restaurant is hard to find bc there are no signs for the place. When we went to order they were out of a lot of things. we only ordered two meals but it came to over $45 dollars which would be fine IF the food good. it wasn't. the eggs didn't have cheese, the grits were bland with cheese sprinkled on top, the sausage was spicy but nasty, n the waffle was dry like the desert. I almost choked on it. I was extremely disappointed to say the least. The bottled orange juice was good though.

Leori B.

Yelp
So I will start with the good. My husband and I arrived at this location at approximately 940 to have breakfast after reading how delicious the food was. Upon ordering I was immediately told that there would be a 30 to 45 minute wait due to door Dash and delivery foods that had to be completed. Initially I thought no problem because we were in no hurry and if the food was as good as they claimed it to be it was not a big issue. After about 15 to 20 minutes we checked in to see if I food was ready and only one meal was ready. The second meal which was the easiest of the two was not ready nor did they have a ticket for it. So my husband had to come back and retrieve the receipt that I had buried in my purse so that we could prove that we had in fact ordered two meals. So the good my chicken and waffles were amazing and the chicken was fresh the waffle was fresh everything was extremely good. The bad which was very bad was that it took 45 minutes for my husband to get scrambled eggs two slices of bacon and grits. Once he had received it we realize that we had in fact paid for cheese grits and gotten regular. The team there seemed extremely overwhelmed and not sure how to deal with maybe 3 to 4 different parties that have come in at once. We were not impressed with the level of customer service received and would probably not recommend coming back to this place. One star was given for being open the other star was given because the chicken and the waffle was that good. So if you'd like to deal with the aggravation of waiting 40 to 45 minutes only to still have your order be incomplete or incorrect please go for it, otherwise there are probably other places in New Orleans that have great chicken.

Owen B.

Yelp
Waited 10 minutes for them to acknowledge me then waited 20 minutes for them to not make my order. Terrible customer service.
