Maadae Slow Fish Kitchen

Probably Chiang Mai’s best restaurant, if you like fish. The atmosphere is authentic. The food is delicious. The drinks are wonderful. Everything is cooked straight next to you in the open kitchen over open fire. Truly skilled chefs are in a perfect synchronization with wonderful staff serving you a great meal. Don’t be afraid, if you have no reservation, the wait will be worth it!

Coal grills were outside, drinks were delicious and I appreciated the full page of drink cocktails that were non alcoholic though if you drink they have all kinds of wine and alcoholic cocktails too. The food was amazing, and it’s a nice touch that the kitchen is outside where you can see everything. The fish was so fresh and delicious.

You may reserve online to get seats during peak hours, but still you have to wait a little bit to be seated. The restaurant is decent and food is nice. However the tap in the toilet was broken on the night we visited. The grilled fish is popular and there are three choices on the menu, it is good, but not much difference than those in night market, but priced a double. The stir fried vegetables and squid are delicious but a bit oily.

The creativity and care put into each plate are evident with every bite. The grilled fish don’t need any seasoning because is natural freshness is just enough. Highly recommend making an early reservation to secure a spot, as this place is truly a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered! Came here first time at New Year’s Eve, completely ignore by the waitress when she clearly knows we were waiting in line, she just bypassed us and did not put us on the list, she put everyone else but us. Was offended by this action. Came the second day because we were in the area, a different waitress was there & hosted us with good attitude, we got a table pretty quick. The food was absolutely delicious, comparing to other stores it is a bit expensive but worth the money. It was really 5 stars delicious. Everything we ordered was delicious. The atmosphere is like a French cafe. Seafood was fresh. Cannot give five stars due to poor service the first day.

Extremely popular and one of the few places where a reservation is nearly essential. You can call or make a reservation online. Needless to say it’s popular for their grilled fish. We had the crab, fried rice, specialty, rice, grilled fish, sautéed vegetables, sour soup, and shrimp dish. We ordered two of each dish as there were six of us. They have served Thai craft beers. Very adequate.

The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. During peak hours, when there are no tables, customers have to sit outside and it is quite hot. The food takes a long time to be served. However, the dishes are quite special and worth the wait. You should try the salads and squid.
